Just wanted to remind y'all that anti-vax folks are idiots who are bad at math. And it has consequences. Case in point: the pertussis/whooping cough vaccine is 97% effective. That means, yep, it's 3% INEFFECTIVE, which means that herd immunity is important. How do I know it's 3% ineffective? Because my teenage son has a case of pertussis. He's had a cough for weeks, and it got so bad recently that we actually had to call 911, as he couldn't breathe (he recovered, we cancelled the call, but got him to the doc posthaste). The doc calls it a "100 day cough." He's vaccinated. But obviously, falls in the 3%. So how did he get it? ODDS ARE, he got it from being exposed to some unvaccinated dipshit sometime last month. We're lucky he's a strong and healthy 15 year old, not an infant or one of my elderly parents. But I'm sure your holistic approach of eating avocado pits and rubbing mineral oil on your kid's forehead every full moon is very effective, and it wasn't YOU who is responsible for the spread of a dangerous disease. There, a stout condemnation, an nice anecdote, and a personal insult to a group of people in general. That's how you start a new thread. Have at it.8 points

Did a lighting uprgrade to my bar today. But all it makes me want to do is buy more bourbon to fill the spot where the glasses are. My wife thinks I’m crazy but at least she doesn’t bitch when I buy a new bottle.5 points

I disagree with the OP. He's leaving out the downside of getting vaccinated. Just look at me. I got all my vaccinations and I'm fucking retarded.5 points

I see this as a problem too, actually. Its why we ought to be figuring out real solutions instead of the feel good bullshit that mostly gets thrown around these days. But we aren't allowed to have the conversation to figure out real solutions because neither side trusts the other to actually want to have that conversation. 2nd Amendment guys tend to think anyone who wants any regulation at all is out to take away everyone's guns so they don't want to give an inch, and people who want to talk about real gun reform think the 2nd Amendment guys are being assholes rather than just lacking in trust for the conversation actually being about reform and not confiscation. That has to get fixed if you want to figure something out. Until its fixed ain't a god damned thing changing about the conversation. However, if these mass shootings keep up, what will change is that eventually those 2nd Amendment guys are going to be left out of the conversation and they are going to get gun reform whether they like it or not, and its likely going to be worse than it could've been if they'd been part of the discussion to begin with. The 2nd Amendment guys will be like the people who railed against gay marriage and would have no discussions about alternatives who ended up just being left out of the conversation. When they realized it and tried to finally participate in the conversation about maybe having a civil union statute, it was too late and now they get to see married gays running around the country.5 points

I did get in on the conversation. I have brought my viewpoint to the table. Some of y'all (not necessarily you) dont like that I wont accept infringement on our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. That doesnt mean Im not at the table, it means I will not bend to weak ineffective regulations and arguments. Show me something that might actually work and doesnt infringe on the rights of the citizenry and let's talk.4 points

Here's the trick - not only do I believe it, it is a historical fact. I'm not talking about self-talk rationalizations that help provide you with less shame about what your shithole of a school has to do in order to compete for national titles. No, I'm talking about facts. Texas has never had a national title followed by NCAA sanctions within 3 years. OU has been hit with sanctions after winning each national title. These are what facts look like. Sorry to shatter your worldview.3 points

It's from tailgating before the 2007 UT/ISU came. My cousin (on the left) had come down from Winnipeg the day before. We had a classic drunk Ames night (I was between undergrad and law school at the time, mowing lawns for living), which culminated in him tackling a garbage fan and scuffing his face (somewhat visible in picture) before he pissed on my floor and passed out in said piss puddle. It was a rainy, wet crap day where UT fucking pummeled us, but it was a lot of fun. I have my arm around him chugging a beer at approximately 9:30 in the morning. I was 22 and he was 24 at the time. It's simply a relic of of a great time I once had that's tangentially related to UT football.3 points

We (TPWD) went to the Livingston Dam tailrace to check for Striped Bass prior to our hatchery collections in April. Here's a 30+ lbs female we shocked up, saw a bunch of 6+ ft alligator gar, paddlefish, and a couple freshwater eels as well. 10 floodgates were open so there was quite a bit of flow (14,000 CFS; see image below) and any more it's too dangerous to get the boats in there. With all this rain, especially in the DFW, may keep us from collections next week.3 points

Not one person here has said he doesn't have the right to peacefully protest. But when he inserts himself into the public arena, you shouldn't be playing the "but he's just a kid who's been through so much you can't dare criticize him" card when he says inherently stupid shit. Seriously, this kid wants the Second Amendment repealed while claiming that a clear backpack is a violation of his First Amendment rights. He calls Trump and Rick Scott vile names but wants them to "do something" by taking away the rights of tens of millions of law-abiding citizens, but when his school administration "does something" that somehow adversely affects him he whines about it. Also, to pretend these kids are organizing this independently -- when the events are bought and paid for by adult special-interest groups -- is a farce. They may hold those opinions, and I'm sure many are passionate about them, but without the adults bankrolling these events they would generate about as much attention as a high school chess team bake sale. I do think the comments on Hogg's personal appearance are inappropriate.3 points

Ask Brian Stelter, he's the one that admitted to letting him lie on his program. I don't fucking care to watch his program, but you probably have/do. I don't have to have any real arguments, as the Constitution does my talking in regards to gun ownership. Please, please, please, tell your liberal overlords to run on appealing the 2A platform. Do it, chicken shit, tell them you refuse to support their candidacy unless they are devout on this issue.3 points

What are their arguments, it changes daily, based on what network they are doing interviews on. I'm also not quite sure they are having the desired affect you think they are, as the NRA had record fundraising this past month. For instance, I had no skin in this game, never owned a gun, could care less about the NRA. After hearing Hogg make his ridiculous statements, I joined the NRA. He's literally driving people to join the organization, because contrary to his personal beliefs their members aren't killing people, and his rhetoric is repulsive. Hell, even the last CNN interviewer admitted he allowed Hogg to lie multiple times on his show, because he was afraid of interrupting too much. If all you do his scream lies and say 5M+ people like seeing kids die, you have no argument worth listening to. I've yet to hear an honest interview addressing the systemic collapse of government at both the local and federal level that allowed Cruz to purchase a gun, let alone several. Any competent psychologist would have rendered his ability to purchase a gun using NICS impossible. The SRO that stayed outside, even identified Cruz to his boss almost a year before the shooting and not a damn thing was done. There is a complicit group of people in this tragedy and it's not the NRA.3 points
