A few things to pass on. 1) Shephard and Green are still ATM leans. Not sure to what degree, but it's going to be hard to do a clean sweep of everyone Texas wants in-state this year. Still, Texas has made up a ton of ground. 2) Bragg has some pretty serious pressure on him regarding Stanford and the family has seen UT's pitch. We have to get this guy and right now, he's going to be a tough pull. 3) OSU and Texas both believe they're getting Wilson. 4) While we have a legit shot with Wilkins, ArkyChad has strong recruiting capabilities. There's plenty of reason to believe that this player is going to wind up at Arky. 5) Either Cain or Major. 6) The Nigerian WR guy from DFW is going to ATM and he'll be a flex TE. He's a total stud. 7) The Nigerian guard guy from DFW is not a take. 8) Gabriel Hall is this year's Christian Jones. 9) LSU will land some guys from Texas this year. Baton Rouge has a disproportionate amount of serial killers in its history, relative to its size as a town. Sort of a larger version of Pasadena, TX in that regard, and probably for the same reasons. 10) If Jake Smith doesn't go to UCLA, Texas could be the school. Not in spite of the other 4 main targets at WR, but because he's an absolute badass in the slot. 11) Owen Pappoe is as likely to wind up at Texas as sarvanaash is to wind up being optimistic. 12) The state's 2019 is chock full of prima donnas and it's a legitimate concern for various coaches during this cycle. There are a lot of guys with red flags of one sort or another, so the homework in this cycle is pretty damned important. This shit is fluid and I make no promises to these being anything other than snapshots of info in time.14 points

Grandpa and I did a swap of guitars for Xmas this year. He finally handed over his 1967 Gibson B25 and in return I got him a Collings OM1. Wasn't an equal value trade and wasn't supposed to be. Grandpa has wanted a Collings for years and this was the first year I could afford to get him one. There were definitely tears flowing.7 points

I have always felt that this entire thing will come crumbling down due to the family's pure incompetence rather than cold-blooded, calculated manipulation. Even if there is outright, blatant collusion with Russia, I could see a scenario where these bumblefucks simply thought that this was the kind of the wheeling and dealing that international parties do with one another prior to elections.6 points

The 5 players in Texas right now are all exhibiting very different approaches to this recruiting cycle. 1) TCU - Fat Patty and the SweatTards are doing what they do - turning over every rock they can look under trying to find high quality talents that other schools have missed. They know themselves, so they're only competing head up where they think they truly have an edge for some reason. Gabriel Hall out of Waller is a guy they're going to work to keep under wraps, but he is going to be a fucking stud, probably at OT. Good luck with that. 2) OU - Riley, Grimace, and Stoops the Lesser are encouraging kids to enjoy the process and not even commit to them early. Wease would already be in the crimson and cream if they'd pushed. We'll say how this plays out, as I think it is a risky approach for OU in Texas in this class. 3) LSU - Mongo has been fitted with a soft 7 on 7 helmet and locked in padded room. They let him pound incoherent texts out on his big chief tablet each day and then they attempt to translate those glyphics into actual productive communication with the recruits. They let him shout cajun obscenities into a dead line or the recruits only from Baton Rouge and New Orleans for roughly 30 minutes each day before hiding him away again. So they are attempting to hide the head moron and the kids in this class in Texas basically aren't feeling them. 4) ATM - Jimbo Aggins and The Silent Assassin are going all in on pushing for kids early and keeping them on lockdown. This upcoming weekend exemplifies that. It's going to work for some players (see Richardson), but I view this route as fettered with risk for the non-flagship school in a state like Texas. 5) Texas - Herman's Hermits are being specific, thorough and transparent with a very small set of high-value targets within the state. They're leveraging all of the advantages Texas possesses and they're being realistic about working with the trainers and such. Back behind that, they're maintaining contact with a list of back-ups or guys they might take who need to be further evaluated this spring, summer, and fall. Looking outside of the state, they've been much more liberal with the net they're casting, and that makes sense. I wouldn't want to be any other school if Texas wins 9+ this season. Win less than that and things are more open, except for the padlocks on Mongogeron's cell.5 points

You could read that he's turning 3 visits into 1. He was going to visit last weekend, attend the spring game and then set up an official visit. Smart kid.5 points

Rubbing Mud: The Astroification of Gerrit Cole: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/39080/rubbing-mud-astroification-gerrit-cole/ It’s only two starts, against a couple of below-average offenses, but Gerrit Cole’s first fortnight with the Astros has offered reason to believe that he’ll become for them what he never quite became for the Pirates: a full-fledged ace. He’s fanned 22 opposing batters in 14 innings, allowing just one run and 10 total baserunners. Some of what he’s done is easy to explain, too. He’s increased his slider usage, at the expense of his fastball, and in particular he’s all but shelved his sinker (that favorite toy of erstwhile Pittsburgh pitching coach Ray Searage) and focused on his four-seam heater. We all expected that to happen. Other changes Cole has made, however, are harder to describe, and they suggest that the Astros’ ability to makeover and make the most of top-flight starting pitchers runs even deeper than we thought. One problem Cole had during his last two seasons with the Pirates was that his fastballs were only good at missing barrels. Despite elite velocity and a wipeout slider, Cole struck out a batter per inning in just one season while with Pittsburgh—and that was his truncated 2014 campaign. One reason for that was that his fastball lacked the kind of hop that induces whiffs. The total spin rate on his four-seamer was uninspiring, and the vertical movement on the pitch was mediocre. Things have changed. Below are Cole’s fastball spin, movement, and whiff rate by year, from 2015-2018: Season 4-Seam FB Avg. Spin Rate (RPM) Spin Axis (Degrees) Vertical Movement Whiff% 2015 1636 2157 222.2 7.8 8.4 2016 773 2178 215.4 8.8 6.9 2017 1601 2163 221.9 8.7 9.1 2018 100 2331 214.8 10.2 18.8 My inexpert eye detects no significant difference in Cole’s mechanics. There’s been a noticeable change to his vertical release point, but a small one. More than anything else, he seems to be repeating that release a bit more consistently. Without a change in arm slot or basic mechanics, Cole has overhauled his fastball. He’s not throwing it harder—the opposite is true, though he’s still sitting on the sexy side of 95 miles per hour—but he’s getting more spin on the pitch, and that spin is closer to unadulterated backspin. The combination of those things is giving his fastball better rising action than it’s had at any point in his big-league career. That movement (plus batters trying to be ready for the more serious threat of a breaking ball) is resulting in the kind of swing-and-miss results a fastball like his should always have enjoyed. By the way, some of the same things can be said of Cole’s curveball, too, He’s throwing it more often than he has since he was just breaking into the majors, and with good reason. For one thing, it plays better off his predominantly four-seam, higher-rising heater than it did off his sluggish sinker. For another, it’s diving more than it has in the past. Again, although he’s thrown just 30 total curves so far in 2018, we find that his spin rate on the pitch is higher, and that the pitch has taken on a truer 12-to-6 shape. It’s also dipped in velocity, more than his other stuff has, so it’s a really nasty change of pace for Cole, underscoring the extent to which the pitch was being wasted while he toiled under Searage and tried to dominate with Searage’s fastball-heavy, sinker-leaning philosophy. The question, I guess, is from where these increases in spin rate are coming. The Astros enjoyed a similar spin-fueled breakout from Brad Peacock last year, but Peacock’s path to that epiphany is a bit clearer. He lowered his arm slot, something a few other guys who also boosted their spin also did in 2017. The people (like Kyle Boddy of Driveline Baseball) who make their living by espousing the value of spin rate and helping pitchers harness it remain mostly agnostic about any single means of improving spin rate. It’s clear, though, that certain pitchers have spin potential that lies dormant, until they’re able to make the adjustments in arm path or grip that unlock it. For the most part, it seems to be the former. Perhaps, in some fairly subtle way, Cole is more mechanically efficient now, freer with the arm. Perhaps the Astros are doing some high-level, in-house pitch design voodoo that allows them to get the most out of every hurler on whom they lay their hands. (That would help explain not only Peacock, but Charlie Morton, and hell, even Justin Verlander’s very productive adjustments near the end of last season.) In any case, Cole has been a monster so far, and if this is remotely sustainable the Astros are truly the best team in baseball. It’s increasingly clear, with each bat Cole’s heater misses, that the Pirates were unable to get what they should have gotten from their former no. 1 overall pick, and it’s exciting to see that Cole’s sensational stuff didn’t atrophy during years of misguided pressure to be a certain, less sensational type of pitcher.5 points

Wasn't this partly the point of the story? A once proud and dynamic leader of men had slowly turned into nothing but an empty pair of khakis with platitudes. It really hammers home the fact that someone in their 80's probably shouldn't be the CEO and/or cult leader of big business.... Instead of a defensive, cunning or slippery personality, you get this sad and pathetic little figure because he's too fucking old to critically consider his actions, his place in it all. He can't remember enough.... A story about misplaced demagoguery and hero worship in small towns in America (pretty topical if you think about it). The last scene is heartbreaking and incendiary because there once was a man who once was defensive, cunning, and slippery. Who put himself, his self-interests and his legacy above the well being of kids in his community but when it was time for the reckoning, he wasn't up for the fight..... He was simply too impotent.4 points

I think this is solid perspective. My reading in Atlantic Magazine's What Putin Wants and their article on Manafort supports that different actors are acting for different reasons. My conclusions based on my limited reading: Putin wants to stir up trouble for the US wherever he can. His attack on our election could be (likely is) related to the US condemnation of Russian elections and his legitimacy. His hold on Trump was a lucky card that was thrown into his hand rather than a master plan. The Trump actors seem motivated by money or crushing debt. They sold out the system for personal gain rather than being part of a master plan to damage faith in our political processes. Trump, on his own, has fascist instincts to attack the press, vilify the defenseless and spew lies about the return to greatness of Italy Germany the US. Putin gets dealt a royal flush. All of these activities are vile and unlawful. However, I don't think a master plan was in place to bring us to this point in time where Putin's best wet dream of American political disarray and distrust has taken over the waking world. It's just a perfect storm. Still, all these fuckers need to go to jail.3 points

I think there's a lot of "limiting" factors about living in a big place and going to a huge high school. Your kid's opportunities for participating in extracurriculars are extremely limited. Your kids won't know most of the kids they went to school with. Your kids won't develop a sense of community. I said upthread that my daughter actually thanked me for choosing to live in Wimberley instead of San Marcos or south Austin or New Braunfels like everyone else I work with does. She got raised by not just my wife and I, but by wonderful people in the community who took an interest in helping out kids. People who said, hey the school music program is kind of subpar, so we're going to offer to teach kids how to play the guitar after school. For free. Hey, the art program is weak, so we're going to run an after-school art program. For free. Mike McNeal, who decided that he wanted kids to get more interested in science, so he created an event where kids could show up and do science experiments. For free. Meanwhile, at school my daughter was taught by some of the greatest people I've ever met. I already mentioned that we had an absurdly high rate of 5's on a couple of AP tests. One of her best friends went to Harvard. One went to Stanford. She also got to participate in varsity athletics starting in her freshman year. She literally knew everyone in her graduating class. She learned to love (or at least accept and support) all of these people, no matter how different, because they were part of her town. But more than anything, she learned about being a part of the community and the power of having a sense of community. And I would put that WAAAAAAAAAAAAY up near the top of things that anyone should learn. And you don't learn that in a big school in a big city. And I think the absence of that is a big part of this country's problems. So don't tell me that small towns "limit" their kids.3 points

Texas A&M spring game visitor list is loaded Brian Perroni - 75 minutes agoVIP7 Texas A&M holds its annual Maroon and White spring game this coming weekend and there will be a lot of talent in town. This list is by no means exhaustive and we will continue to add to it as we confirm unofficial visitors for the game. However, here are the players we have confirmed so far. [https://s3media] OFFICIAL VISITORS -Dallas Bishop Dunne S Brian Williams(A&M commit): The five-star safety and No. 2 prospect in the state is rock solid to A&M and will be one of a few Aggie pledges on their official visits this weekend. -Colleyville Heritage WR Kam Brown (A&M commit): Since making a commitment to the Aggies in early February, the speedy four-star wideout has been back numerous times and this weekend will be yet another. He is set to enroll in January. -Houston St. Pius WR Chase Lane (A&M commit): The longtime Aggie pledge will be in College Station again this coming weekend. -Dayton LB/DE RJ Orebo (A&M commit): Orebo has received some interest from other schools since committing but has told them all he is completely solid. He is also set to enroll early. -Converse Judson DL DeMarvin Leal: It looks to be an A&M/Texas battle for the 6-foot-4, 280-pound four-star defender. It is huge to get him on campus this weekend and he recently had a very good unofficial visit to Austin. -Houston Madison CB Bobby Wolfe: A one-time A&M pledge, the four-star cornerback has remained high on the Aggies and will take his first official visit to College Station. He is close with fellow four-star cornerback Young, who will also be there. -Fort Bend Bush CB Erick Young: The four-star defender is very high on both A&M and Oklahoma so it’s a big deal that he will be in Aggieland instead of Norman as both have big visit weekends. -Aledo CB Jeffery Carter: A former Oklahoma pledge, Carter really likes A&M and the Aggies will get the first official from the four-star prospect. -Brooklyn (N.Y.) Canarsie DE Adisa Isaac:The 6-foot-5, 210-pound edge rusher from New York City has offers from all over the country and will take his first official visit to A&M. UNOFFICIAL VISITORS -Spring Dekaney CB Marcus Banks: The four-star cornerback will also be back in College Station the weekend of April 28 for an official visit. -Crandall OL Branson Bragg: A&M’s top interior offensive line target in the state, the Aggies are in a battle with both Texas and Stanford. -Amarillo Tascosa RB King Doerue: One of the more intriguing prospects in the state, Doerue has A&M as one of his top schools at the moment. -Austin Bowie WR Elijah Higgins: Higgins has been to Aggieland several times and plans to be back this coming weekend. The four-star wideout has very good speed and provides serious mismatches. -Gilbert (Ariz.) Higley ATH Ty Robinson:Likely a defensive end or tackle, the 6-foot-5, 260-pound four-star athlete has planned to be at A&M this coming weekend. -Baton Rouge (La.) U-High ATH Christian Harris (Maybe): The 6-foot-1, 225-pound four-star prospect, who would likely play linebacker, is still listed as a ‘maybe.’ -2020 New Caney CB Dwight McGlothern:The four-star cornerback is becoming quite comfortable in College Station and, not surprisingly, will be back yet again. -2020 Southlake Carroll CB RJ Mickens:The four-star corner and Aggie legacy has not been to College Station in some time but says he will likely be there for the spring game. -2020 Hebron S Darius Snow: The nation’s top-ranked safety for the class of 2020, Snow plans to make his first visit to A&M since being offered. -2020 Duncanville S Chris Thompson Jr.:The No. 2 safety in the country, Thompson was just at A&M this past weekend as well but plans to make another trip for the spring game. -2020 Fort Bend Austin OL Kendal Septs:A&M recently became the first to offer Septs when he was in town for an unofficial visit and he will be back for the spring game. -2020 Haynesville (La.) DT Camron Jackson: After spending last weekend in DFW for the Under Armour camp, the 6-foot-4, 273-pound four-star defender will return to the Lone Star State this coming weekend to visit A&M. -2021 Katy Taylor OT Hayden Conner:Conner, who is one of four in-state freshman tackles with an A&M offer, will put some miles in this weekend. He is going to the Wisconsin spring game on Friday and then will be in College Station for the A&M one on Saturday Sent from my SM-J327P using Tapatalk3 points

That is one explanation. The other is that the New York team is the "taint team." Any time the FBI obtains documents that may be attorney-client privileged, they set up a taint team to review those documents. The taint team is completely separate from the main investigatory team, and they review the documents for privilege. Only the documents that the taint team determines not to be privileged are forwarded to the investigatory team for its review. That way, the investigatory team never sees anything that is privileged, and doesn't pursue any leads they obtain from privileged documents. Keeping a separate team ensures that the investigatory team is completely free of the taint of having seen privileged material. Mueller could be so light on resources that he doesn't have enough manpower to form a taint team from inside the OSC. And anyway--why do so when you can have it completely separated and outside the OSC? And here's the thing that I think is so interesting when it comes to college-educated whites in the next election. Look around at who your allies are. The whole permission structure for being a Republican in a certain socio-economic strata is being revoked. You look around highly-educated workplaces and neighborhoods around this country, and it's just not socially acceptable to be pro-Trump. Look--whatever you do in the privacy of the voting booth is your business. But I'm telling you that the country club discussions that were very pro-Republican just five years ago are very anti-Republican today.3 points

I live in SW Florida so a lot of people in my community are retired have nothing better to do than get involved with other people's business. However, last week i got an email from next door with the subject line "Baby Ducks Killed". I though someone may have run over one of the families of duck in the neighborhood by mistake, nope. It seems that a family of duck landed in one guys pool and instead of lifting the ducklings out of the pool the guy drowned them. His neighbor heard the mother duck quacking and went to see what was going on, the guy said he didn't want any pets so he killed the ducklings. Well the neighbor called the cops on the guy, when the cops arrived he denied it, but the found five dead ducklings in his bushes. He is now facing felony animal cruelty and endangerment charges and they are trying to determine the species of ducks as it may be a federally protected species, so federal charges are pending. So he may be facing jail time, I believe he is also a Canadian snow bird and if he gets a felony he may not be allowed back into the USA. The morning after someone put some rubber ducks on his driveway with a note clearly written by a kid saying "Get your Ducks in a Row Sir", the duck killer has since put up cameras on his property. Now the neighbor who reported him is losing her shit, she planted 5 crosses in her front yard as a memorial to the duck, which are no down. I am pretty sure the HOA told her to remove them.3 points

I hate to break up the cargo shorts and Kyler Murray conversation, but I figured someone cruising through this buttfuck of a thread might have an interest in an update from a few guys who've been to practice and talked to folks. -Rising is getting the majority of the 3rd string reps. -They've figured out how to use Duvernay and that means they're hitting him deep and he likes it. There's a shot he actually comes back. -Nelson might not graduate in the spring, and therefore the grad transfer scenario wouldn't be able to play out. No idea if valid, just passing on. -They love Dele, Cook, Sterns and Foster. Foster is getting looks at the role Jason Hall played late in the season and they think he can excel. -They love the 2 deep at CB including Boyce and Cook. -With Roach and Hager in their natural positions, lo and behold, they look like fucking badasses. -TE will be way, way better than the fucking puke spewed onto the field at that spot last year. -Nothing to make of the OL as a rational observer because of Anderson not being there and a slew of known injuries. -Carter/Young would be a legitimate combo if Carter had any gray matter between his ear lobes. -Collin Johnson is still the best WR on the team, no matter they float out there to motivate otherwise. -The staff is looser this year and the players are actually enjoying themselves. Take all that FWIW.3 points
