I've got a long list of doozies, but this one is currently my favorite. Fucking recruiting. Sweet Christ.20 points

No. No. No. No. Enough with the "both sides" B.S. Remind me the last time Democrats tried to gut medicare and SS, gut the EPA, gut education, and basically shit on every program that helps the middle class while giving handouts to the rich. Remind me again how Democrats killed net neutrality and abandoned slaying the seedy pay loan industry. Reminds me how Democrats rallied around Citizens United. The two parties clearly have VERY different priorities and agendas. No, they are not "mostly the same on big issues." I'll give you that Democrats tend to give lip service to being against wars while ultimately being too hawkish, but other than that I'd love to see a list of issues they vote lockstep with Republicans on. Oh, wait, I found a picture of that list.13 points

Word on the street is that we pulled Leal's scholarship offer before his ATM visit, so it's not a big loss since we didn't want him anyways.7 points

I've really come to hate these cocksuckers. Probably because the lack of respect I have for them. I fucking hate OU; but I respect them. They have success. All aggy has is a new house note and a short, cuckold coach, but beat their chest like they are Bama fans. I don't hope they lose. I hope they get embarrassed, outed for their bagmen, and defamed. Fuck each and every one of them.6 points

Holy mother of fuck Surly. What the fuck? I go on some shitty work travel and come back to the goddamn beating that is this fucking thread? Mother of fuck. Chill the fuck out. I'm not happy about the Leal thing but it is early. Aggy is going to have to grab and hold on to guys because their season will be what it will be - 7 or 8 wins but some weeks where they will be non-competitive. They are going to get guys because they are in the 1st year bounce. A least of couple of those guys were quoted as saying they were afraid of the large class at Texas last year. Fuck that shit. Yes, Jordan Patterson is the guy that has been recruiting himself to Texas and yes he is fucking good. Also of note, EJ brought his grades to this convo but they are nowhere near as dire as say Josh Ellison or some shit. Don't listen to fucking EJ. The Cal RB is being brought in because he is a scheme fit. Now they will see if he's a cultural fit. Get used to it. This staff will never stop recruiting at and over any position. If they see a player that is a scheme and cultural fit they'll bring him in. The same reason you'll see full classes every year. You won't see any smaller classes until the roster is at a championship level and even then, if a player is a fit and can contribute then he'll be recruited. We are going to see some turnover after the fall and spring every year. This weekend is going to be a good one but this staff is not pushing for fauxmentum or early commits. OU has used 17 of their 56 OVs already, Aggy 14 of 56. That is fucking huge because OU and Aggy have taken the very early approach to this cycle. I'd imagine that both are going to wish that they had paced themselves a bit here. Texas, Clemson, Alabama, and USC are holding back on OVs - taking the opposite approach. After seeing the rush last season between NSD1 and NSD2, I think it's clear that the teams that hold enough OVs to host huge events between the bowl games and signing day are going to have a lot of leverage to complete their classes with talent and not bread. Texas is going to sign a badass class in 2019. There are going to be some quotes from the past few pages that texifornia can pull up for the lulz in Feb.6 points

Ahh, yes, this pretending by those Conservatives/Republicans that blacks are facing a crisis due to the out of wedlock birth rate, and the perception that you really believe it's a crises when you don't. And ahhh, fucking yes, this MYTH of the absent black fathers perpetuated by Conservatives/Republicans and the reason that white politicians won't talk about it because who the fuck knows. White politicians wont' discuss it because a.) it's false and b.) they don't care....just like you don't care but you're trying to give the perception that you do by speaking about it here. But, let's take a look, shall we? Here are a few websites and videos you and your friends should read and watch: 1.) from https://thinkprogress.org/the-myth-of-the-absent-black-father-ecc4e961c2e8/ 2. 3. https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2017/01/10/the-dangerous-myth-of-the-missing-black-father/?utm_term=.edfd4d9ecd1d 4. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/08/opinion/charles-blow-black-dads-are-doing-the-best-of-all.html 5. https://www.vox.com/2015/6/21/8820537/black-fathers-day4 points

people are not going to ride their bikes to work here in austin fucking texas. my favorite bit the city did was going to amsterdam to study their bike culture. the average high in amsterdam in august is 71 fucking degrees. ours is 96. we did have one dude in the office who would ride his bike. he fucking stank. bike lanes are fine, and i'm actually for them on many roads where they can fit. but it's for the hobbyists, not the rank and file. bike lanes make biking safer, which is a good thing, but they sure as hell are not getting cars off the road here in texas.4 points

In twenty years: 1. Books won't exist. They will have all been burned to stay warm during the nuclear winter. 2. We won't be reading anything, we'll be too busy trying to survive in the post-apocalyptic horror show that civilization has become. Amusing anecdote from the future: when a hunter/scavenger lets a rat get away, and thus has to go hungry for another day, he or she will say "Thanks Obama!' without really knowing where the colloquialism came from or what it means exactly.4 points

Forgot to add: I'm a black male. First in the family to get a Masters, and come next year will be the first to get a Doctorate. My father is still married to my mom. They were high school sweethearts, and they are doing on nearly 40 years now. All uncles are still the lives of their children, even though they may be divorced from my aunts. And even then only 1 is divorced. The other aunts/uncles are still together. It's like that on both sides of my family. So yeah, this whole idea about absent fathers in the black community is what's wrong with the black community is nothing more than a dumbass Fox news talking point that the right/conservatives/republicans think they can give that will give the perception they care about blacks and black issues. I'll see myself out as I'm trying to make cacio e pepe for the first time.3 points

My son had his Eagle Scout Board of Review on Monday night. Five adult Scouts grilled him for almost an hour about his Eagle Project, Scouting career and future plans for "life." He was well prepared (I've sat in on several before, so was able to impart some advice) but it was rather nerve-wracking wondering how he was doing in there (parents do not attend). He did pass and has now joined the Eagle brotherhood. And today is his 18th birthday. Whew, that was close! If anybody on Da Surls has a Scout coming up on this process, I'm happy to talk you through it.3 points

These last two visits were the first time he really heard Jimbo/Brewster's pitch. He's seen everything Texas has to offer and still picked aggy after two visits. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about a flip, unless aggy absolutely shits the bed on the field this year, which is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. I remember a tweet posted on shaggy that was probably like a year ago now where Leal talked about how great the SEC is and he wanted to play in that league. At the time, I didn't think it was a good sign for UT but then we didn't hear anything about it and he visited Texas a ton so I figured we were in good shape. It seems like he's always felt that way and aggy was able to capitalize. In a way, Poona getting DPOY in the B12 is great because it shows how good our coaching staff is, on the other hand, it's easy for the other conferences to negative recruit because the DPOY in the Big 12 didn't even get invited to the combine. I'm sure aggy mentioned that and whored out the SEC constantly while he was on his visit, which led to him falling for the (used car) sales pitch.3 points

One reason I give the ags little chance of actually accomplishing anything in college football is that their lack of self-awareness prevents them from honestly assessing the status of their program and making any necessary changes. Every time aggy makes a move, it is an emotional reaction to some trigger, not a logical step to move a carefully devised plan forward. The ags are convinced they have a blue-blood program with a long and storied past that is on the verge of one of the greatest era in the history of college football. In reality, they haven't had consecutive seasons of being even moderately competitive in conference play in a generation. The people who have been overseeing the program during what is one of the more dismal periods of aggy football (and that is saying something) are still in decision making positions today. Hiring Fisher wasn't a logical choice, it was an emotional choice - "He has won a championship before so he is assured to do it again, under totally different conditions! Yay us! He's grrrrrreat!" They were pissed and frustrated at Sumlin's lack of accomplishment, so they reacted emotionally and fired him. The people running the aggy program have no overarching plan. They haven't had a plan to build aggy athletics in my lifetime. Because their culture is so prone to false hero worship, they constantly reach for saviors to take them to the promised land. They always have, and they always will. It is who they are. Before it was Jimbo, it was Johnny. Johnny was mentally ill and lacked the ability to focus mentally. But not a single aggy saw that. Johnny was their hero and could do no wrong. And all he delivered was one third place finish in their division. Hardly what any objective person would consider "the promised land" for a major college program in Texas willing to throw all the money they could borrow at their football program. Their best chance would be to bring in a total outsider with a proven track record as AD (as Texas did with CDC) and let that person build the program. But that isn't how aggy works. What the ags should do is talk with top out of state recruits and ask them why they never considered Texas A&M. If aggy ever will have a chance to do anything in college football, it will be because they improved their national recruiting, which will require them changing their culture so that the "aggy experience" isn't so off-putting to all but a very small demographic nationwide. But aggy doesn't work that way. Which is why aggy never accomplishes much. Hiring Jimbo Fisher isn't going to change aggy's fortunes one bit. But it will be one of the most glorious eras we will ever witness. Glorious for everyone but aggy.3 points

Didn’t we beat some euro teams in Europe who were mostly full strength under klinnsman? Didn’t we cap more dudes under him than we did under arena and Bradley combined? he clearly didn’t get the job done, but at least he threw shit at the wall to try. In terms of EXISTENCE of the issue, you're correct. In terms of DEGREE....you're way off base. And I say this with ZERO forgiveness or tolerance for lying from our leaders, period. But it's like saying "hey, they're both sick" when referring to one person who has a head cold, and another who has Ebola and blood leaking from all of their orifices as they approach death in a matter of hours. I've never seen anything remotely like this. Nobody has. The VOLUME of lies is staggering. So much so that they have overwhelmed our collective ability to even call attention to all of them. Yesterday's cavalcade of lies is washed away by today's tsunami of utter and complete falsehoods. We can still talk about the key lies of previous administrations because those lies STOOD OUT. They were, relatively speaking, exceptions that were easy to spot. With this administration....truth-telling is the exception. Don't tell me "hey, don't be afraid of a little virus" when we're talking about Ebola, not the common cold. Degree matters. It matters a lot.3 points
