  1. So my wife asked me to weigh my 1 year old daughter this morning. Since she won’t stand on a scale yet, I generally weigh myself without her, then pick her up and weigh myself again. (Not 100% accurate but close enough for what she needs) So I do this and she say complains “you didn’t do it right, you didn’t take off your shoes”. I didn’t even bother explaining it to her.

  4. I've really come to hate these cocksuckers. Probably because the lack of respect I have for them. I fucking hate OU; but I respect them. They have success. All aggy has is a new house note and a short, cuckold coach, but beat their chest like they are Bama fans. I don't hope they lose. I hope they get embarrassed, outed for their bagmen, and defamed. Fuck each and every one of them.

  5. Did I tell y’all how I forgot about a guitar and then gave it to my fiancée’s brother? I think that was an achievement for me. He was staying at our place while visiting (and is a sophomore in college at Haskell), and was talking about how he had been saving up to buy a strat. I was thinking maybe I’d let him borrow my thinline tele and then I remembered that I actually had a MIM strat under a bed somewhere that I hadn’t seen or thought about in a year. Told him if he found a black strat under the bed in the guest room he could have it. He came back out like I was a wizard. And then I bought that G&L Tribute to restore balance in the force.

  6. Actually, it was one of our many problems on offense and tended to highlight the others. It’s easy to say we couldn’t block anything. We didn’t consistently block anything very well , but some concepts were executed far and away better than others. And some things were destined to fail based on which players we were asking to perform them. Things they continually failed at all season long, and we kept calling it anyway. That’s playcalling. Not just plays that are better executed than others, but having some semblance of awareness of who’s in the game and what to call in light of those personnel packages. Interestingly, we usually called about 2-3 drives per game actually focusing on our relative strengths, and those drives tended to be productive compared to the rest of our efforts. Rocket science and shit.

  7. The part where his reasoning is flawed is that it assumes the presidency is the only source of this forest fire when in fact the president is merely a symptom of the stupidity of the American people. The real problem is congress being 1) completely tethered to corporate interests and lining their own pockets in the process and 2) being so consumed with re-election they refuse to perform their duties as a check on executive power and corruption. The president with leave soon but the corruption of congress will not and will be the driving force, along with the stupidity and ignorance of the American people, that slowly continues this countries' decline into financial and social ruin.

  13. I'm not a huge original intent guy because I think anyone pretending to know what a large group of people a few hundred years ago clearly intended is full of shit, but it seems pretty unlikely that the President's pardon power was intended to apply to state crimes. I think permitting abuse of the pardon power to enable rampant executive lawlessness is a much larger concern than your generally valid concern, and the ballot box is an inadequate remedy. If the President can shield anyone from state criminal liability, he can effectively enable all sorts of election tampering on his behalf.

  21. It absolutely happens. Just not at the widespread institutional level that you suggest. There is nothing to support that claim other than a skewed interpretation of the data to fit a narrative. If all things aren’t equal, it must be racism. No, that’s not a logical conclusion. Now, are you prepared to admit that just maybe White Privilege may not be the answer to every problem in the black community? That every slight against a person of color may not necessarily be tinged with racist undertones? Black people don’t want me to tell them how they feel or how to solve their problems. So I don’t. It’s not my place to either. But I also don’t follow the narrative that I’m the oppressor and should give their feelings a wider berth simply because I’m white. Reverse racism doesn’t solve the issue either. If white guilt lubricates the pill better for you, or makes you feel like you have the moral superiority over me, then I’m fine with that. I gave up bowing to alters some time ago.

  22. What Troph said, it goes a long way. I recently stopped taking my meds for bipolar disorder after ~20 years. My Psychiatrist was reluctant but we'd been discussing it every visit for the last 5-6 years. She reluctantly agreed and gave me guidance on a 3-month taper that I promised to follow, and I did- to the exact timing she told me to. I hadn't missed a dose in 20 years (doses which had fluctuated up/down occasionally) but felt I'd grown enough as a person to handle most everything without needing to be constantly medicated. I was a tiny bit apprehensive about it and swore I'd be honest with myself, though part of me knew that wouldn't be a possibility if I went too far off the rails. Anyway, I'm 5 months into beginning the taper, and 10 weeks into not taking any medication at all. The last 6-8 weeks of the taper was keeping it at a non-therapeutic level so that I could experience life without any help but still be able to ramp back up immediately if needed (something you can't do when lamictal is completely out of your system). All went pretty well... and then I hit a 2-week stretch of the worst depression I'd experienced in over a decade. It was fucking terrible, most days for a couple of weeks I couldn't get out of bed until mid-afternoon. Fortunately it coincided with a time I was between projects, and honestly that may have fed it since I'd been on a 3-year run of craziness (but not manic craziness). Ultimately I got through it and shit has been good for a while now. For the first month or so after ditching the meds I was really fucking edgy and short tempered ("why are people so fucking stupid?") and then some depression set in. Fortunately the finesse of learning to manage it over the last couple of decades came into play... and knowing when to persist and just fucking get through it was valuable (mindfulness, physical exercise, meditation... just generally looking out for yourself). Anyway, this is just some random hammered rambling but wanted to say hello and share some experience after following this thread for a long time (both incarnations) but never posting. Best wishes to you all.

But, as bad as things are, he has a perfectly good sandwich and chips, nice contrast from the kitchen scraps he would beg for as a kid in Russia. I think this is all making him appreciate capitalism even more. He IS an American and is going to stay that way, if he has any choice. This episode didn't have the drama, but it definitely pushed the narrative forward.

  32. He said there is something wrong with the community which is true. We've got a problem and there might be external causes for it. The black community has a problem with unwed mothers and it's ultimately up to the black community to fix it. Getting free coffee at starbucks because I was at a disadvantage growing up might make you feel better, but it's incredibly insulting. The black community shouldn't allow others to influence it.

  33. We have to fix the schools. Otherwise it is just throwing shit on the wall and hoping something sticks. The biggest crime since slavery, as a nation, I believe, is that we have allowed our poorest citizens to be stuck in dreadful schools with no chance of getting out. While ultra-wealthy liberals scream at any attempt to fix the schools they can still send their kids and grandchildren to private schools. President Obama sent his two girls to the Sidwell Friends. It's really expensive, and they have a great website that shows you all the fabulous lunch choices afforded them, because they are rich. But then other poor black kids are stuck in schools which give them no chance to succeed. President Obama allowed D.C.'s voucher program to whither on the vine. I think I read that the 10, or so, Democrats who attacked Betsy DeVos at her hearings on her belief in school choice sent their children & grandchildren to private schools. A great education is awesome for my kids, because I am rich, but not for some poor woman who wants to get her kids out of failing inner-city schools. Our school system needs blown up and rebuilt so that teachers can teach and kids who want to learn and better themselves can be taught. ------------- The national (high school) graduation rate for black males was 59 percent, 65 percent for Latinos, and 80 percent for white males for the 2012-13 school year, according to the report. Particularly striking was Detroit where only 20 percent of black males graduated on time in the 2011-12. http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/District_Dossier/2015/02/as_nation_graduation_rate_grew.html By Russell W. Rumberger, PhD The United States is facing a dropout crisis, with an estimated 1.1 million members of the 2012 high school graduating class not earning diplomas (Education Week, 2012). Dropouts face extremely bleak economic and social prospects. Compared to high school graduates, they are less likely find a job and earn a living wage, and more likely to be poor and to suffer from a variety of adverse health outcomes (Rumberger, 2011). Moreover, they are more likely to rely on public assistance, engage in crime and generate other social costs borne by taxpayers (Belfield & Levin, 2007). Poverty and dropouts are inextricably connected in the three primary settings affecting healthy child and adolescent development: families, schools and communities. In 2009, poor (bottom 20 percent of all family incomes) students were five times more likely to drop out of high school than high-income (top 20 percent of all family incomes) students (Chapman, Laird, Ifill, & KewalRamani, 2011, Table 1). Child poverty is rampant in the U.S., with more than 20 percent of school-age children living in poor families (Snyder & Dillow, 2012, Table 27). And poverty rates for Black and Hispanic families are three times the rates for White families. http://www.apa.org/pi/ses/resources/indicator/2013/05/poverty-dropouts.aspx

  36. I live 200 yards from the sand on Jacksonville Beach. I bought a whole setup for myself Christmas, but hadn’t had any luck in 5-6 trips. This morning I went to a local bait shop to see what I was doing wrong. Really sweet old man and wife running the place were tremendously helpful. They pointed me to better double drop leaders than what I was using, sold me some fresh shrimp to use rather than various other baits I’d failed with (bagged sardines, bagged shrimp, fake shrimp, fish bites), and explained that I was probably casting over the channel (I was just casting as far away as I could). Spent the afternoon on the beach kicking ass. This guy was my first official Florida catch Caught two of these ladyfish and released them Two nice bluefish which I brought home for dinner Finished the day catching some kind of stingray. Had him pulled in, but he snapped the line when I got close and took off with one of my new leaders. Probably a good thing because I wasn’t looking forward to trying to get that hook out Good fucking times

I replaced the first few and had a buddy clear the code, but it has a warranty so we started taking it in because it kept happening. Today it happened again, and the last time they said they'd need to replace the head gasket if it reoccured. Okay, fine, it's under warranty. Led to this: Wife: Can you call and figure out what I need to do? Me: Yes, I did, I can come get it from you and drop it off and it will be done. Because it has to be there by 3 Wife: I'll drop it off, I can get there by then Me: Okay, but you can't be late, they will not be able to check it in after because the warranty system doesn't let them 3:45call comes in Wife: I just got here and they won't take it Me: Well yeah, it's 3:45, it had to be there by 3 Wife: Yeah, but 3:45 isn't that much later Me: silence because I am trying to know better... Wife: What should I do, I have a 9AM meeting I have to be at tomorrow Me (Internal): I don't know, fucking be there on time or you could have let me do it for you like I asked Me (External): Leave it tonight and they can check it in tomorrow, Uber in to work Her: But I don't want to do that, it costs money. I'll just drive the car anyway Me: Seriously? You think it's a good idea to drive a car that keeps putting itself into limp mode? And shouldn't you have thought about that before being late? I don't know what you need from me here Her: Tone...
