Fairly certain this investigation will end the same way most others do when it involves insanely rich and powerful people-- lots of head-shaking disapproval and public upheaval and scandalous shit being outed in books. Then the rich guys skate on most of the heinous shit and their other powerful friends reward them with jobs and money and more power and a chance to commit more crimes. We have people rotting in jail because they can't afford bail or they might've had some weed and those people feel the full brunt of our fucked up justice system. The nakedly corrupt fucks who run our country will almost assuredly do less time combined than someone rung up on coke charges in the 90's. My overarching point is that nothing matters, existence is meaningless, and there's a fairly clear list of folks who need to be first up against the wall one day! Yay!8 points

Meh, that was just the anecdote I've given before, went back to it for ease. Would it surprise you to know that I've also litigated high-stakes ecclesiastical disputes? And that in EVERY case, there are clear acts of fraud (lying to the voting members of a congregation, lying about what documents say/do, etc.). And in EVERY case....the "side" doing the flat-out lying is the fundamentalist side? You reference humility -- a point I strongly agree with. As I've said before, I'm not a Christian, but I'm trying to be. I fail every damned day. These folks are not humble. Instead, they are so convinced of the superiority of their belief system that they'll do whatever it takes to impose it on others, including lie. You reference truth -- it is indeed a fundamental underpinning of both faith and civil society. But the fundagelicals are utterly divorced from both objective truth, and simple honesty. You would be mistaken if you took ANY of my takes for being disdainful of Christianity; I am steeped in the faith, was educated in the faith, and regularly occupy positions of ecclesiastical leadership. My disdain is for those who use the label as a shield and excuse for horrific acts and beliefs, who preach truth yet indulge in and use lies, who speak of humility yet abuse power, etc. Christianity need not be at odds with science or a functioning civil society. Putting it at odds with those does a disservice to both the faith and society.6 points

Exactly. Tillerson was such a bad ass when he was Secretary of State, always standing up to Trump and not behaving like an idiot sycophant. I remember one time he stood up to Trump and said "Have you no decency sir?!" and Trump ran away because Tillerson is a Longhorn and a hero. He is probably the most impressive and successful Secretary of State ever. So proud to share the same alma mater as the brilliant diplomat Rex Tillerson.5 points

Objective? Lulz, what a load of shit. Every one of the posters you're calling objective is butthurt because the Spurs and/or Rockets have to play the Warriors. Seriously, as pointed out above, some idiots are acting like joining the Spurs would have been okay. The 5 time champs. But oh by the way they're that poster's favorite team.5 points

The flaw in this woman's thinking can be summed up in her own words. It is not a zero-sum game, and presenting it as such is either short-sighted or a purposefully deployed straw man. Where, exactly, does she think all those people would be working if others weren't paying them to clean their house and mow their yard? Everyone living in a tiny house solves this problem how? She never fleshes out her idea that larger houses somehow come at the expense of poor people, but merely lobs it out there as if it's an obvious truth. It also completely ignores the fact that all of the amenities that admittedly left urban areas during the white flight of the 20th century are now coming back as the tax base has returned. The displacement of the poor folks by wealthy urban youth moving back to the city seems lost on her as well. There are some other eyebrow-raising comments in the article, such as the claim that private playgrounds and pools are being built with taxpayer money. I'm sure some developer managed to pull off such a shenanigan at some point, but generally such a thing would come under rather quick scrutiny. I do agree that the McMansions that many Americans (especially Texans it seems) continue to overpay for are not necessarily a good thing, but claiming that folks living in 2400 sf (as if that's even big!) homes is the reason we have poverty is some serious socialist backwash that even a German like the author should have trouble swallowing. I suspect her real beef is that the development of such homes in lieu of urban housing developments, and all the amenities that would need to be designed and built for a highly congested populace, takes money out of the back pocket of her fellow architects while simultaneously contributing to the further decline of the once lofty status of the profession. She should rest easy, as all signs point to the further growth of inner cities, which means more small dwellings. I suppose as more folks hat move into tiny apartments, the better things will be for everyone. The other aspect at play here is probably regional bias. As a European, she may view the idea of the majority of the populace living at a low-middle class standard, with tiny but efficient apartments, a worthwhile tradeoff for better standards of healthcare, lower crime, less poverty, etc. That's certainly a proven workable solution, but it's also, for better or worse, decidedly unAmerican. Perhaps our little experiment here is coming to a close, but I'm going to enjoy my giant house and the ridiculously large pickup truck that I only own at the expense of the poor while I can, and the rest of the world can bust the fire hydrant if they need to cool off in summer. I'll be in my pool.5 points

Lol Tillerson is a fucking coward and largely responsible for the wholesale destruction of portions of the environment and climate-denying fervor. And before anyone links me to some story about him admitting climate change is real, let's all remember that Exxon and the giant lobbying groups and PACS they fund are the ones shitting out fake science and stirring up unrest about an extremely urgent issue among a bunch of dullards from middle America who'll line corporate coffers by voting in other climate-deniers. He's a premium, first-ballot guillotine candidate in every way possible. Rooting for him in the name of school pride is also insanely embarrassing and UT should distance themselves forcefully from such an evil piece of shit.4 points

He can indict him, there are avenues he can use, but it would mean an elaborate court case that plays right into Trump's hands by playing things out. Mueller wants to keep things under wraps until he's done with his investigation, then release everything at once and scoop up the cockroaches as they scurry. The evidence is going to be odiferous and there's going to be an Indiana Jones warehouse full of it. It's damning if dropped at once, which is why Trump friendly sources have constantly leaked their favorable version out to try to get in front of it. They'll also commonly lie about some of the details when they leak it. That way the media has to retract part of the story and it loses it's impact. This frequently occurs when it would be an impeachable event in any other administration. It's swamped by the next Trump leak later. This causes Trump scandal fatigue. This technique is highly effective. It desensitizes even those of us following this relatively closely. It's difficult to stay vigilant for long stretches. Trump is counting on it. It's up to the American people to not let it work. Stay pissed my friends.4 points

Started with a 1990 coupe I bought off of some 20 year old girl who lived in Fallon, NV. I wanted a 4cylinder because those cars are usually in pristine shape unlike a factory 5.0. No creeks. No stressed torque boxes. Everything is usually present and accounted for in the interior. The car is a bit sun beaten on the outside as would be expected for a NV car, but also as to be expected from a desert car, the undercarriage was flawless. I started by screwing together a basic 302. Freshened it up with the usual, added an Anderson B-41 cam, and a set of GT40 heads I had lying around. I wanted an aggressive idle, but I wanted it to be a driver as well. Up top I sourced an Explorer intake(same as a Cobra Intake) with 42lb injectors, a 70mm TB, and a 80mm Pro M Mass Air calibrated for the injectors. Ram Stage 2 Clutch, and a World Class T-5. Lastly, I tossed on my old Vortech V2 Strim supercharger on there just for the whistle sound and the subsequent whoosh on shifts. Suspension and brakes wise there isn't much going on. I pulled off all the stock Foxbody stuff and went 2004 GT(tried to source a Cobra but couldn't find one). Rearend, brakes, control arms, steering rack, everything. I upgraded to crossdrilled and slotted rotors, a proportioning valve, and a 93 Cobra master cylinder coupled with a 96 Cobra Brake Booster. I also added Eiback Sportlines to get it to sit right. It's currently sitting on 18x10/9 SVE series 3 wheels. The front are 18x35x265. The rears are 18x35x295. For those that really know mustangs, you probably thought about how the 2004(SN95) suspension has a 3 inch wider track width. There is a reason for that, and this is where it gets fun. I added Maeir Racing panels to make the body 3 inches wider(1 1/2 per side), which will tuck the wheels and tires back in. It has a 93 Cobra rear bumper, and I am doing something special for the front. I am cutting the stock bumper cover in half and merging it with an 03 cobra lower valance. Then we are wrapping it in Satin Chrome Blue. Below is what it will look like. First pic is the panels. Second is the nose. Last is the wrap. It's taking a lot of my time, but it's either going to be a homerun or an epic failure......lol.4 points

It is clear that 83.7% of you have no understanding of football players, their thought process/psychology, or their daily grind. Almost every swinging dick on this board (that played any meaningful amount of ball) would take a 3rd round NFL grade and sprint to the draft unless you were a sure-fire first rounder with a big insurance policy. Yes, players get better food than most college students. Guess what? The food still sucks relative to what most people prepare at home for a meal. It's mass produced food. It's there in quantity, but it's meh. Yay for food, I guess. Pass up guaranteed $500k-$1MM for dorm food. Right. Got it. I'm on the way. Going to school and playing football is not easy. The schedule sucks. The workload (if you want to actually get educated) really sucks. BUT YOU GET UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS and SWT and CONCORDIA LUTHERAN and ST. EDs and H-T COLLEGE GIRLS!!!! (just kidding, only a handful of you have ever had sex with a girl from Huston-Tillotson... and by you, I mean me.) Stahp. You're 40 years old with two kids. You should have gotten all you could while you could. NFL players fuck. Trust and believe. Malik left and it was time. You're mostly good fans, though....4 points

Meh. Acting like you have balls AFTER the fight is over is him acting like that asshole friend of yours -- you know the guy....he was nowhere to be found when the shit was hitting the fan and you were fighting for your life in that bar with a bunch of drunk Sooners who wanted to start shit. But once you all ended up back at the car, battered and worn out, he was full of piss and vinegar: "Man, those guys were LUCKY I was in the bathroom taking a dump the whole time -- damn those hot wings I had at dinner! I'da kicked ALL their asses if I'da been out there!" Bravery after the battle is over isn't bravery at all. aggy fans are so convinced that Texas is cheating because of how their own 9.95ers act. Half of the time they won't even mention Texas is an option until the recruit is obviously about to commit to Texas. For everyone else Texas is a distant second to aggy until the recruit surprisingly (for them) picks Texas. When their fans are constantly fed false information about how Texas is not even an option for a recruit it probably does feel like Texas is cheating when said recruit chooses Texas.3 points

Explain "he should have come back". What should he have come back for? A chance to be a first round pick? He was provided the information he needed to make a decision, used that information to make his decision, and has never apologized for the decision he made. In fact, he provided a well-reasoned explanation of why he made his decision. This "he should have come back" bullshit reeks of paternalism and college fan-boy "he owes the school" (read: "me") entitlement. He doesn't owe the fans anything, and as far as what he owes UT, the University got a lot more value out of him than he did out of his scholarship for three years.3 points

From a baseline standpoint houses today could be built much better than they are, but at a costs to the $/ft number. It is a lot of little things that you cannot see and nobody wants to pay for(but should): Foam insulation Hi SEER AC Galvanized masonry lintels Jacketed electrical wiring. More robust framing Better engineering and construction on foundations. Better windows, doors, and vents. Upgraded hot water heaters Thoughtful outdoor spaces and more roof overhangs Better ventilation and house breath ability. Quality low voc paints and finishes. Not to mention a whole hosts of local sourcing options, recycling during construction and use of recycled materials.3 points

Hey we’re the only school to have played Alabama >2 times and still be undefeated.. People have covered the highlights but a few other things of note: -Re: Beer Bike... You’re a nerd (or grad student or alum) if you make it to the bike track for the race. You gotta pass out after the water balloon fight (world’s largest annual one) since you’ve been binge drinking since 4 A.M. -Consistently rated as one of the most economically diverse elite private schools. Look at the difference between us and SMU, for example. -Willy’s Pub has had a rough run of it lately. It was one of the few places on campus damaged by Harvey and then was shut down in early April for liquor license violations. The hope is it will reopen by Fall, but honestly I don’t care since I just graduated... It was really easy to drink underage there though, so here’s to hoping that continues for generations of students to come. If you’re visiting campus, definitely checkout Valhalla though.3 points

It's just so curious that dudes who have been all-Texas and on-campus multiple times go to College Station once and shut things down. It must be the allure of College Station, Texas and that small-town college life that these kids are drawn to. RIght? That's gotta be it.3 points

There are some serious internal contradictions and double standards in this post. Set aside the West Bank for the moment, since you are talking about Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state. What exactly makes the land within Israel proper "Arab land"? 75% of Israel's Jewish population was born on the land. The land is theirs by birth. How many global Palestinians are age 70+ and were born where Israel proper stands? Why exactly aren't the rest all citizens of the countries in which they were born, like how the Palestinians born here are American citizens? Why aren't West Bank Palestinians all citizens of Jordan, which held that territory before Israel took it? I don't support a number of things Israel is doing right now, just as I'm a proud American who doesn't support most of what the Trump administration is doing. I support a Palestinian state that includes most of the West Bank. But you've fallen for propaganda if you think this is about God's promise to the Jews versus the poor displaced natives. It's not. It's about the Arab nations using the Palestinians as political pawns, and you're playing right into their game.3 points

the problem we are talking about isn't trumpism. trump -- putin actually -- simply tapped into a very, very ancient issue with a significant portion of our population. i'll recount an event at least thirty years ago when we were visited by two aging members of my family. the wife of the visiting couple was famous for her hatred of the beatles. i knew well how she usually set her opinions. she and her sisters would discuss something and decide what was right. after that, there was no way to get one of them to reconsider. so i set up a little experiment. i got her alone and asked her to listen to some music i had put together on a cassette tape. it was my fave early beatles songs, but of course i didn't tell her that. actually, i was curious whether there was something about them that she (and her sisters?) truly didn't like. so i played norwegian wood, eleanor rigby, girl, and maybe another song or two. she loved it until she asked who the group was. i thought surely that this would illustrate to her that she should learn to not trust her and her sisters' half-baked opinions so completely, but that didn't happen. she wouldn't talk to me most of the rest of that day. that really shook me up. i had never experienced how completely closed those minds can be. i believe very strongly (but am open to reconsideration) that the problem group we call trumpies are actually this sub-group of america that was instrumental (due to their mindless hatred of england) in our becoming a nation. many, many aspects of these people are good. it's just that they are twisted in ways they can never leave behind. the hope is to reach the youngsters, but every time you pass a christian school you are passing one of their indoctrination centers.3 points

No I disagree, framing lumber is most definitely inferior to older framing lumber. Trees are harvested sooner, they're not old growth. Faster growing weaker trees, growth rings are less dense. Less tree resin making them more susceptible to moisture, rot and insect invasion. We harvest trees sooner which means less strength, durability, and resin content. No knots ? Because they strip branches from trees as they grow. Straighter? Most lumber hacks have more and more returned studs because they're not straight. Try finding a straight 10' long 2 x 4 or even a 2 x 6 stud today. I hear complaints from the older framers on every job site. I've seen at least 2 reductions in the allowable lengths of floor joist, roof rafter and ceiling joist spans in my career. That's a direct result of inferior, weaker lumber. Better building codes ? Sure, but that has nothing to do with the quality of lumber, and more to do with technology and better building practices. The rise of pre engineered floor joists is a direct result of weaker wood.3 points
