Stupid. The horror of a world class University attempting to be more diverse. We should strive to be more like Berkeley and less like aggy. Now run along Tahoe and worry about what kind of donuts you’re taking to the fat fuck Alabamans this weekend14 points

My son just finished his first year at the 40. He's laughed at all that shit, and why not? It's funny. As far as "being ruined", he says (and it's obvious) that all that shit affects like maybe 1% of UT students. The vast, vast, huge, massive, mega-titanic remainder of UT students don't know about, don't care about, nor give two shits about any of it. It doesn't impact their day even .01%, nor do they think about it, except for occasional humorous readings in the Daily Texan or wherever. My son and 99.99% of his compatriots are focusing on how to get by the fucking killer statics test, that lousy writing assignment, or getting lined up for co-ops/jobs/schollies/etc. They go to school to go to school. As for the "diverse" teachers, most of the controversial stuff is tucked away in a corner where no one gives a flying fuck, cheesy colleges/programs that make University liberalia feel good about themselves, but again, which impacts so very few students, nor even enters the consciousness, even for a fleeting second, in their entirety of 4-5 years, that it's completely irrelevant. All that stuff is carnival entertainment, and sure, let 'em have it. It's feelgood stuff that they can brag about at national convocations or conferences. The practical impact upon the University is like, fucking zero zilch. Admissions actually hasn't been impacted even to a fraction of the degree which the "7%" (and decreasing) rule has. And even that, that's just to get into Dear Ol' UT; the colleges can admit whoever the fuck they want... a whole slew of "auto-admits" we know didn't get into their colleges because they thought they had it made and did shit jobs on their applications, and were denied admission, so now they wander around in "general studies". None of that stuff matters to all but a tiny fraction of people involved with UT. Students are focused on coursework/credits/GPAs/career/job prep outta school. As it should be. The rest is crap.10 points

As the father of a son who just finished his sophomore year in the Plan II Honors and Computer Science programs and another son who will be enrolling in the Fall as a freshman in the Plan II Honors and Economics programs, I can honestly say that the University of Texas is better today than ever before. Whatever they are doing, they need to keep doing it! I absolutely love and adore my alma mater.9 points

Shavar Manuel was a national-level DE at IMG. Had all the big offers but was a bit of a character/grades risk. He committed to UF 2 weeks before NSD 2016. Then on NSD, he pulled a move that would make anyone not named Nick Saban blush. He flips to FSU out of the blue, leaving UF with no backup at his position and not informing their staff that he would do it. He claimed he planned it with FSU's DL coach about a week before and said he committed to UF 2 weeks prior due to family/others pressure on him. The DL coach for FSU seemed to corroborate this premeditated plan to flip but then JImbo denied having any knowledge of that plan. Plain and simple, you don't get that kind of vindictive planning from a recruit who liked the UF staff enough to commit to them without some added incentive. Guys who go to UT still like aggy position coaches that recruited them, for the most part, and vice versa. These are guys that have been pouring into them for over two years. They're not gonna screw over guys who they have a meaningful relationship with. As an aside, the UF DL coach who got screwed over was Chris Rumph, the man who ditched UT for UF right after NSD leaving "no hablo espanol" feeling muy furioso, and he was also famous for a certain practice photo that made members of the shag immediately go buy lifted F-250s in order to compensate. It all ended up being meaningless as he didn't qualify and went Juco but still. It shows the seemingly improbable flips that Jimbo finds ways to muster out of thin air and shows he gets players who are somewhat known to be up for bidding, just like a lot of those late OOS kids with some red flags he grabbed last year, and also that Jimbo's willing to play extremely dirty against his rivals.7 points

Summary: Once you understand that this all started with a call from Australian diplomats, this all makes sense. See, because iocaine comes from Australia, as everyone knows. And Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. So Trump is innocent, and Deep State!6 points

Lol Tillerson is a fucking coward and largely responsible for the wholesale destruction of portions of the environment and climate-denying fervor. And before anyone links me to some story about him admitting climate change is real, let's all remember that Exxon and the giant lobbying groups and PACS they fund are the ones shitting out fake science and stirring up unrest about an extremely urgent issue among a bunch of dullards from middle America who'll line corporate coffers by voting in other climate-deniers. He's a premium, first-ballot guillotine candidate in every way possible. Rooting for him in the name of school pride is also insanely embarrassing and UT should distance themselves forcefully from such an evil piece of shit.6 points

Claiming Jews are squatting because of ancient history is fairly ironic. Palestine hasn't even been Arab controlled, aside from an 8-year Egyptian occupation, since 1517. It was Ottoman controlled for the 400 years prior to WWI and there has never been an independent Arab Palestine. The Jewish claim may be ancient, but at least they controlled the land as a Jewish state called Israel at some point in the past. Britain was attacked by the Ottomans and they defeated the aggressor. The Turks lost control of Palestine. At that point, we're dealing with 1917 standards. The British possess Palestine by right of conquest. No one has a claim to sovereignty of the region that is less than 400 years old. The guys you just took it from had launched religiously influenced invasions of Europe that had made it as far as Vienna. The British weren't too keen to turn control of the Holy Land back over to people who view them as infidels. The Balfour paper says they'll give it to the Jews, but they don't, they split it between Arabs and Jews. Jews migrate there, many of which are facing extermination if they don't. The British sharply restrict immigration in 1939 after Arab revolts and a whole shitload of Jews are killed, because there is nowhere for them to go. The UN then divided it between Jews and Arabs after WWII. The Jews accepted this division, the Arabs did not. The Arabs launched several attempted wars of conquest, intent on exterminating the Jews and they got the shit kicked out of them. Many of these Jews had fled extermination once already, now the Arabs were set on it again. I don't think I'd be fucking around if I was in their shoes either. Each time, the Arabs are punished with territory loss. Starting wars of aggression and losing them usually means you lose territory. It's the punishment for starting them. It should be doubly so when one of the stated goals of the war is genocide. I wouldn't give Jerusalem back if I was Israel either. They've won it by defeating multiple attempted conquests.5 points

Fairly certain this investigation will end the same way most others do when it involves insanely rich and powerful people-- lots of head-shaking disapproval and public upheaval and scandalous shit being outed in books. Then the rich guys skate on most of the heinous shit and their other powerful friends reward them with jobs and money and more power and a chance to commit more crimes. We have people rotting in jail because they can't afford bail or they might've had some weed and those people feel the full brunt of our fucked up justice system. The nakedly corrupt fucks who run our country will almost assuredly do less time combined than someone rung up on coke charges in the 90's. My overarching point is that nothing matters, existence is meaningless, and there's a fairly clear list of folks who need to be first up against the wall one day! Yay!5 points

I used to write my own paychecks. Overly zealous bank teller thought it was suspicious for some reason that the signature on the front side of the check matched the signature on the back side of the check. Teller goes to the back and calls the business phone number on the check and asks to speak to the manager but I'm not there because I'm at the bank, but the employee gives them my cell number. So I'm in the lobby of the bank while the teller calls my cell phone from the back to ask me if the check was legit. Fucking retard.5 points

Yeah, general rule is try not to be a dick. Hell, with my team if I'm telling the outfield to play deeper because the kid has good bat speed I just yell it out to them ("OUTFIELD! Back up!" *hand signals until they're deep enough*). If I'm telling them to come way in because there's a weaker hitter then I call them out by their names and only use hand signals to position them. If there's a chance you're showing up a little kid then it's time to reevaluate. I also had to ignore the parents on my team this season whenever we'd get up by enough that coming back was literally impossible for the other team due to time and run limits. We were aggressive on the bases until that point was reached, then it was station to station. We'd move up on a passed ball but we'd stop stealing and we'd stop going home on passed balls. Not only did it stop running up the score but it also let our batters actually hit and try to knock some runs in instead of just being a revolving door on the bases. I don't get grown men that care that much about their 8-10 year old kids winning a baseball game by as many runs as possible. Teach them the right way to play the game, positioning them in the field, running the bases properly, etc. You know, how to play the game they way they'll play it once everybody has the basic baseball skill set instead of taking advantage of bad players in ways that you won't be able to 4 years from now.4 points

I don't know why I should give a serious response to a Tahoe thread. But here goes-- Texas schoolchildren are overwhelmingly minority--52% Hispanic and 13% Black (with only 29% being White). Moreover, according to our state's former demographer, 62% of those kids come from economically disadvantaged households. Now--we can teach that diverse student body with a lily-white faculty. That is, after all, what we've always done. But doing that would ignore the manifold studies reflecting the educational benefits of having teachers of the same race/ethnicity/background. Moreover, it would ignore the obvious mentoring benefits of having professors who have encountered similar obstacles in reaching their current position. As a public institution, the purpose of The University of Texas is to benefit the entire state. Among the ways it does so is by educating the populace and by providing an educated and skilled workforce necessary for economic development. Were The University not to employ faculty qualified to instruct the state's increasingly diverse population, it would fail in its founding mission. In other words--take your donut-bearing white-nationalist horseshit and shove it up your ass, you fucking racist troglodyte.4 points

The moron in a busy coffee shop or food joint who insists upon giving over 10 feet of space to the person in front of him in line when there is a crush of humanity behind him... not sure why, but it bothers the fuck out of me. It's usually the same schmuck who has been standing in front of a giant menu for 10 minutes and has no idea what he wants to order when he gets to the front of the line. [rant over]4 points

And, answer to the query in the OP: No. Get the fuck over it. If there's a bigger class of butthurt pussies in this country than purported "conservatives," I have yet to find it. They are the most oppressed people in the world, to hear them tell it. OH, the agony of being a Christian white male -- what EVER will they do? It's a fucking university trying to hire some more diverse faculty. Big fucking deal. God you people are whining pussies. It's a fucking university. If there's NOT some idea or intellectual movement that you disagree with, then the university is probably failing in its mission. Whether it be the dipshit hippies at the anti-apartheid shanty or the YCT telling us that homosexuality was a disease (I dealt with both crowds in my day), folks will say shit and do shit and take positions that you disagree with it. Get the fuck over it, you worthless, butthurt old man.4 points

If you want to join the Young Alt-Right Club and wear your MAGA hat around campus, there is a group for you. If you want to join the transgender vegan environmentalist club, there is a place for you. That's how college campuses should be. Those groups can hold their signs in front of the tower and yell at each other like they used to do back when I was in school. It's college, a time to be exposed to things that make you uncomfortable.4 points

Yep, that's clearly the case. I mean, it's just not POSSIBLE that the US authorities, on being provided information from a long-standing trusted ally that a foreign adversary was somehow involved with the campaign of a current candidate for POTUS, would conclude "hmmmm....maybe we oughta find out what our ally has learned, to see if there's an issue there." Nope. Clearly, it was a Hillary-Obama-sinister nekkid dancers at Bohemian Grove conspiracy to commit a coup against someone who few believed would even be elected. Yep, your explanation makes MUCH more sense.3 points

Good way to get that #humblebrag going, though congrats. My son is a freshman (er, now a soph) in Cockrell ME. He likes to eat and lift weights. He received a 4-year "Mom and Dad Pays For This Shit" 4 (or more!) year scholarship. He did well his first year, and looks forward to farting in his room and working next year in an internship, hopefully in the porn industry. Don't have any info/tips on Environmental Science, except that Washington is pretty but it rains there and people commit suicide above the national average. Let her mull those over in her choicemaking.3 points

He can indict him, there are avenues he can use, but it would mean an elaborate court case that plays right into Trump's hands by playing things out. Mueller wants to keep things under wraps until he's done with his investigation, then release everything at once and scoop up the cockroaches as they scurry. The evidence is going to be odiferous and there's going to be an Indiana Jones warehouse full of it. It's damning if dropped at once, which is why Trump friendly sources have constantly leaked their favorable version out to try to get in front of it. They'll also commonly lie about some of the details when they leak it. That way the media has to retract part of the story and it loses it's impact. This frequently occurs when it would be an impeachable event in any other administration. It's swamped by the next Trump leak later. This causes Trump scandal fatigue. This technique is highly effective. It desensitizes even those of us following this relatively closely. It's difficult to stay vigilant for long stretches. Trump is counting on it. It's up to the American people to not let it work. Stay pissed my friends.3 points

Why do you think they finally started trying for some home and home series again? They were having trouble getting the marquee names to sign up for the one off neutral games anymore. After they murdered Clemson, Michigan, USC and now FSU in those openers. The closest games were the two VT and the WVU games. If you mean the three other games, well Bama is the only one that wants to get the conference to switch to a 9 game conf schedule. Until they agree, they will stick with the same type scheduling as everybody else in conference. Looking forward to this series, I may not live until the ND series but I might just make ot for this one. Looking forward to a road trip to Austin. Some of you fools will have to be my guides. Will return the favor for any of you that make the return trip.3 points

It is clear that 83.7% of you have no understanding of football players, their thought process/psychology, or their daily grind. Almost every swinging dick on this board (that played any meaningful amount of ball) would take a 3rd round NFL grade and sprint to the draft unless you were a sure-fire first rounder with a big insurance policy. Yes, players get better food than most college students. Guess what? The food still sucks relative to what most people prepare at home for a meal. It's mass produced food. It's there in quantity, but it's meh. Yay for food, I guess. Pass up guaranteed $500k-$1MM for dorm food. Right. Got it. I'm on the way. Going to school and playing football is not easy. The schedule sucks. The workload (if you want to actually get educated) really sucks. BUT YOU GET UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS and SWT and CONCORDIA LUTHERAN and ST. EDs and H-T COLLEGE GIRLS!!!! (just kidding, only a handful of you have ever had sex with a girl from Huston-Tillotson... and by you, I mean me.) Stahp. You're 40 years old with two kids. You should have gotten all you could while you could. NFL players fuck. Trust and believe. Malik left and it was time. You're mostly good fans, though....3 points

Actually, the Military is growing, and just the Army is producing about 600 more per year starting in 2020. Also, taxpayers do not subsidize the Corps of Cadets. That is an a&m thing, not any ROTC departments thing. None of the branches of service pay for their WWII style uniform. The Army gives their Cadets the combat uniform (just like all other ROTC programs at other universities), and commissioning officers must pay for their dress uniform prior to commissioning. The military and the Corps of Cadets are completely different entities that are only loosely joined at times. I am certainly not defending those assclowns, but people are really misinformed about ROTC and the Corps of Cadets. I used to be the SMSI at Norwich University, another Senior Military College with a total student population of about 3,500, and we would regularly commission 90 or so Army LTs per year, and that isn't counting the other three service ROTC department commissioning's. If anything, a&m is underproducing, which should be viewed as a good thing.3 points
