yet another reason for ALL COPS to wear the damn things. this is the part that I dont understand why the cops dig their heels in on wearing the body cameras. for probably 95% of their interactions, its going to show the cop doing their job correctly. of the remaining 5%, 3% are probably going to be a bit aggressive and iffy.... and then probably 2% are going to show some actual violations. so the dirty cops get exposed, and maybe get booted, and it will reduce sheer number of lawsuits against the cops because the camera will most often show nothing going wrong.7 points

I dunno. Are we such a fucking mess? I look around at countries with multi-party systems and they don't seem to have done much better, if at all. The two-party system that we have has built the greatest economy the world has ever seen and has led to so much progress. I'm sitting here drinking some damn good Big Bend Brewing Company Hefe Weisse after eating an awesome meal of steak, aparagus, new potatoes, and peach cobbler ( Hill Country peaches from are awesome this year and they are already here), communicating with you all via an electronic platform that was invented in this country under the two-party system, contemplating my life and comparing it to the lives of most people on the planet and most people throughout history, and thinking that we've done pretty good under the two-party system. We can always look at things that we don't like, dwell on the negative etc... but my question is this: what if this is the best we could have done? What if any other system would have yielded worse results? We can't know what an untaken path would have led to. But the two party system put a man on the moon less than 66 years after man's first heavier-than-air flight ----- an event that also took place in this country under a two-party system. The two-party system yielded the University of by God Texas, won World War II, funded the unraveling of the human genome, and launched an unmanned space vehicle that has left our solar system. It has survived the assassination of four Presidents with its democratic institutions intact.I guess I look at a system which has allowed the construction of an 18 trillion-dollar economy and wonder what other form of government or what other combination of parties would have yielded better results. We're living better, as a whole, than 99.8 percent of humans throughout history and complaining that things are a fucking mess. Perhaps some perspective is in order. Looking at the sweep of human history ---- the disease, the suffering, the slavery, the hunger, the poverty ------ and describing things in the U.S. right now as being "a fucking mess" seems to be a bit like white people's problems, if you catch my drift. Then there's this: what if the thought that some other government or some other combination of political parties would have yielded even better results is untrue by virtue of the fact that mankind is simply generally ungovernable? In other words, what if the relative peace and stability we've experienced from the two party system is an anomaly, one that is so far outside the norm as to be statistically highly unlikely? We always think "oh, if only we had done this or had this other system, things would have been better." What if that's just not true? What if the underlying assumption ---- that we could have done better ------ is false? From my point of view, we've done pretty well under the two-party system, and that's without even mentioning Willie Mays, a cure for polio, and my incredibly hot girlfriend. Carry on.7 points

worked at a Luby's back in the day. we had a lady on the line who was Korean...and she absolutely hated Vietnamese people with passion that rivaled the heat of a thousand suns. if it were somewhat slow and a Vietnamese person or family was coming up she'd walk off the line. she called them "dog people." this is Port Arthur, mind you, so there's a big Viet population. one particular day it was hot and heavy...long line, loud and worst of all late in the day and we were tired. the Korean lady has her head down and not paying attention, she looks up and there's a Vietnamese family right in front of her. the look of disgust is burned in my memory. so they tell her what she wants, she repeats it back, and neither can understand each other's broken ass English. she'd grab the spoon for something and the Viets would raise hell "NO! NO! NO! DAH (translation: "THAT")! the manager and i we're watching this racist shitshow unfold and busting out laughing. after about the third time the Korean lady had enough of that shit and started screaming at them, so they scream back...each in their native tongue. and finally Korea has enough, grabs a spoon full of macaroni and cheese and flings that shit at the customers somewhere close to the speed of light....hard enough to stick to the wall behind them and just over the head of some poor coonass who was also laughing. thus ended the career of Korean Luby's line-lady.6 points

That's good to know. The government should impose all sorts of punishments for people who choose not to give up their firearms. No constitutional problems because it'll be their choice whether to comply or accept the punishment.6 points

For a supposed horncast, a number of key facts are missing from the discussion. 1. CDC called them 2 weeks ago (which he should not have done) and they said no. Right. We're scared. 2. Bitchassedness. They left the party. We didn't. Fuck them. 100 year decision. eATMe. 3. We gain nothing even with a 77-0 result. Nothing. 4. 72-37-5. aggy needs 33 wins in a row to gain scoreboard. 5. Texas Bowl. 6. Michigan, LSU, Alabama, etc.etc.etc. How can anyone who claims to be horn-affiliated spin the above in to "we're scared just like they are". It's bulldada.6 points

It's not hilarity so much as a bitch -- I worked fast food (Wendy's) in HS, and I swear every manager was functionally retarded. I was running the drive-thru register one day when a guy came flying up and slammed on his brakes right outside the window. He jumped out of his car and popped the hood, where it became clear that he had an engine fire. He was beating on it with his t-shirt, accomplishing little, so I grabbed the kitchen fire extinguisher and tossed it to him. He put the fire out. I got written up for improper use of kitchen equipment.5 points

These. I always favor the truth. Period, full stop. I don't want cops to lie and bullshit and create a blue wall of silence. I don't want people with an agenda to lie about cops, and use the bad reputation that cops have among a lot of people to advance their pet cause, or get a cop in trouble if he didn't do anything wrong. If a cop does something wrong, I want the truth to come out. If someone wrongfully accuses a cop of doing something wrong, I want the truth to come out. Cameras provide the truth, or something damned close to it. Wear the cameras, turn them on, and let's be done with this shit.5 points

I'm sure my comment will get lost in the mix but Trump's words are starting to go into a much darker place. He's always complained about Hillary or Comey or Mueller, etc., etc. Now he is full-on attacking the US govt as against him and, in proxy, against the ~50% of the nation who voted for him. He is basically saying that the deep state is or wants to remove him and democracy out of the US. If someone was to ever stage a coup against the US govt from the White House, this is the process you would take. First discredit the media as liars. Second, discredit the established administration as the deep state. Finally if and when Congress or even just the House turns blue, Trump will discredit them as the unduly elected. If you believe Trump and assume all the above is true, then you would want and even expect Trump to ignore the Constitution and assume complete control of the govt? He would be the hero in that story and not the villain. I'm not saying that this is Trump's end game but if someone wanted to assume a dictatorship of the US, this is how a civilian would go about it.5 points

I had really been down the last couple weeks especially with what would be Sammie’s 16th birthday coming up this Monday. I’ve really needed a sign that she’s still here with me in spirit. I’ve had to excuse myself at work and even out to dinner with tears and crying. Had this afternoon off from work so of course spent my time where I often do with Sammie out on the golf course. Was playing pretty well got to #11 at Cypress Lakes here in Houston and flew a 7 iron into the hole from 173 yards for a hole in one. I really needed to see something from her and she came through. How long it lasts we’ll see but for tonight anyway Sammie’s with me and it’s a good day.5 points

What a total load of horseshit. The idea that morals can't exist in a secular society is about as absurd as it gets.4 points
-
My personal take is that as more and more people are becoming secular, and the world is rapidly homogenizing culture into a globalized one, people are losing their connection to the old societal foundations that they used to use as a basis for shared morals, ethics, and laws. I think that’s really damaging to the psyche of people. In the past societies had shared cultures, religions, and traditions to tie themselves to which informed their theories of what’s acceptable or not. Today we’re being told all of our foundations are wrong and racist, or sexist, outdated, backwards, etcetera etcetera etcetera. We’ve become unmoored and so people don’t know where to turn or find meaning in their lives, so they’ve either become nihilists or epicureans (constantly chasing pleasures as the key to happiness). And boy does modern society really help if you’re one of those two things. It’s very unhealthy. It’s one of the reasons I turned to Stoicism a while back. Think about it, what morals or virtues do you impart on people if you have none of your own? In the past you had philosophy or religion to build your ethics, morals, and laws around, both of which are increasingly shrinking in global importance. Now we have a cultural crisis where people’s upbringing is either non existent, being abolished, or being overwritten by other people with agendas or through sheer evolution. It’s no wonder you have people looking for an identity by joining gangs, or by following unbridled emotion shooting up a classroom because he was bullied or had unrequited feelings for a girl. It’s one thing to know the laws as they are written on paper, quite another thing to fundamentally believe it’s wrong to murder another human being.4 points

I am still sorting through photos, but I think I have edited most of the ones I think are keepers. The trip was amazing and really the only thing we didn’t get to do from my original plan was the north rim of the Grand Canyon at sunrise…just couldn’t fit it in. What made the trip even more special was that it was with my Pops. Some of the shots have been done a billion times, but still special to me because it was with him. Not going to post all my shots and bog down the thread, but here are some of my favorites: Ship Rock at sunrise Collared Lizard in Valley de Chelly The Narrows (Zion National Park) Monument Valley Secret Canyon (Similar to the phone shot I posted) Horseshoe Bend Spider Rock, Valley de Chelly Managed to squeeze in a shoot with one of the best graffiti writers4 points

I got that phone call all parents dread, and hope never comes. You think you can imagine what that feels like, but, I promise, you can't. Four months later, I had a heart attack. The grief almost killed me. It affects me every day. You have no idea how much you can cry as a grown man. I've always had a positive outlook on life. I can find a positive or humor in just about anything. Most of my posts here are usually short jokes, that probably are only funny to me. I cannot imagine how someone with depression would handle a loss like that.4 points

That's what bothers me about the hard core 2nd amendment types. They totally miss what it is about. It's not about the right to have guns just for the sake of having guns. It's about protecting against government tyranny and they'll yammer on about the 2nd amendment without realizing it's there to protect the 1st and the 4th.3 points

This time last year, Grant Tisdale was all the rage as well. The rankings for next year's class from this year's dickfaces covering this stuff mean nothing. As to your posting, you speak with certainty yet are repeatedly wrong, even about shit happening right in front of your face in your neighborhood. I have absolutely no doubt that the staff has told Card that they're recruiting him as a QB for the 2020 class. I have no doubt that they'll let him play there as well. That considered, don't shit yourself and bawl all over your wife's shoulder whenever they discover after his 5th practice at QB that he makes a much better fit on the WR corps. Until a player has taken a varsity snap at QB, they're unworthy of blind trust or as a solo bet at that position for an entire recruiting class. Card might really rev your engine, but he's an athlete dressed up as a QB until he proves otherwise, and there is no fucking way any of those schools aren't viewing this recruitment as such as well.3 points
-
You might need a constitutional amendment, but I would say you limit the ballot to any party whose candidate the previous cycle got at least 5% of the popular vote, or make them submit valid signatures totaling 5% of the number of registered voters 12 months prior to the election. Then each candidate is given X federal dollars with which to campaign, beginning 6 months prior to the election. Everyone is on equal footing financially Primary campaigns are privately funded but capped at a certain amount and can begin 12 months prior to election day Criminal penalties for any violations3 points
