  2. I don't see the comparison at all. Libtard is a mash-up of liberal and retard, and is juvenile and offensive. "Trumplican" seems like a mash-up of "Trump Republican," which is descriptive and completely inoffensive. If you need a safe space from a term like that, Surly isn't for you.

  4. It’s fun to toss out “trumpkin” or “trumpanzee” or whatever to trigger people. Even I do it, but more of a half-assed effort to try and separate them from the more rational Republicans But honestly, we just need to call them Republicans. At this point, the GOP deserves every bit of responsibility for Trump’s bullshit that we put off on Trump and his biggest supporters. Until they start trying to hold Trump accountable, the GOP is 100% Trump.

  16. I use the term traditional Republicans. Those values are worthwhile and essential. It's a shame the Republican brand has been slowly rotted and now totally overturned. With Atwater, Stone, and Limbaugh, the GOP adopted a means for winning office thinking the ends would justify them. Actually, they just became the means and abandoned the ends.

  17. If Klay doesn't hold Hill, he has an uncontested lay-up on that pass. I don't care how shitty LeBron's teammates are, that's a 98% success rate. Bird's arguably biggest moment was a pass. Two of MJ's top 5 most important plays are passes to Paxson and Kerr. Kobe's pretty much the only all-time great that subscribed to the "shoot no matter what" mantra, and he went 6-24 in a Finals Game 7 once.

And ask yourself, if they are all so damned wealthy, why do so many of them live in shithole tract homes out I-10 toward Katy and can’t afford flood insurance. Or why do so many need GoFundMe drives to replace their aggy rings?

  32. Current Republicans are no better than cops that stay silent and hold the thin blue line when bad cops do bad things. There is right and there is wrong. What Trump is doing is wrong and until Republicans speak out and denounce him they are holding the thin blue line.

  33. I love Galveston. I go about every 2 weeks in the summer. I drive down to the public beaches, around Beach Accesses #10-14 or so. Bring a cooler and sit and write on the beach while sipping some cool ones. There's not much better, and I'm usually back in Austin that night. My daughter lives on the coast so sometimes I stop by and see her (and use her shower). Galveston takes a lot of shit; no it's not the garden spot of beaches in the world, but it's pretty nice, especially past the seawall. On a good day you get some nice waves to body surf and there's a lot to do with kids (when we had 'em). There's actually a passable BBQ down by 69th St. called Texas Pit Stop. It's not bad, really. And Benno's rocks, I don't give a fuck who thinks it's trendy to knock it. Nowhere I've been on the island has better all-around seafood, period. There's a shitload of little cafes around the Strand area, you won't go wrong in any place bordered by Broadway (to the south), 14th (to the east), 45th (to the West) and Harborside (to the north). Some of this is the Strand area, but some of it is the nice neighborhood east of it, just west and south of the UTMB area. I like Farley Girls Cafe (killer weekend brunch) and the Original Mexican Cafe (no frills good Tex-Mex) among places. I'll be going down there probably later this week or early next. See ya there!

  35. DDA=Drunk David Ash=a fan with hippie flowing hair and beard wearing a David Ash #14 Longhorn Football mesh jersey. He strategically has placed himself, most of the season as well, behind the plate where the LHN field mics(and cameras) can pick up his nearly constant mid to late game cheering on the team. He is both an embarrassment and a treasure in an almost cringe-worthy way. Peterson the announcer must have read some surly or shaggy with a few of the drops he was saying but maybe it was just coincidental. here is a video clip that shows him from a midweek game where hamilton had a walk off grand slam:

  37. Who gives a shit about what people think about the Big 12 vs sec? The only problem that the Horns have is that they have been shitty and have made dicey coaching and AD hires. All elite programs have fallen of the cliff at times. But make no mistake we will be back. Because we're Texas. JFC we are getting elite recruiting classes despite horrible on-field results. At Texas, we will always get great recruits. We need great coaching and leadership. We're certainly not aggy, who has to make up mythical championships to display on the stadium or hire a recruiter who tries to awkwardly relate to the young kids that Chris Hansen will be interviewing him on a Dateline Special coming soon. We're not 2nd tier program that depends on others in the conference to be good so we can have cred for victories. Simply put, conference rankings don't mean shit. Texas wins all of their games, or just wins the Big 12, we will be in the final four. And that doesn't change if every Big 12 team is mediocre or how strong the sec is. Therefore, we don't have to resort to trying to sell how strong the Big 12 is or root for the other conference teams so we can scream "Big 12! Big 12!". I hate all other Big 12 teams. You know, because they are fighting us in the fucking standings. AND...Texas is paid more than any school with the additional funds from the LHN. Suck it.

  41. Foreign policy is something that, up until Trump, had been fairly consistent from one administration to the next. You look at Iran, Israel, North Korea - the differences were mainly those of lean and direction, not starting position. I don't claim to understand the intricacies of foreign policy, but my guess is most presidents have the humility to listen to the professionals at State, and the intelligence to understand why those positions are the way they are. When Obama was running for President, he said he'd be willing to talk to NK directly. (And the conservative media lost their collective shit.) But Obama didn't do it. I imagine that Obama listened to the advice of people who have studied the issue exclusively for decades, weighed their advice against what his gut said, and in the end deferred to their judgment. The goal, for a long time, has been to engage North Korea in six party talks. (US, NK, SK, Japan, China, Russia). The idea is that every stakeholder has their own issues and by holding the discussions concurrently, you avoid having NK play one against the other. Deterrents are based on the consensus of multiple parties. Concessions will require agreement with multiple parties. This has been the goal from Clinton, to Bush, to Obama. I certainly appreciate the "it's always good to talk" mentality. I don't necessarily fully appreciate the dangers of bilateral discussions. Maybe the professionals at State are wrong and Trump is right. But I would feel better about it if that wasn't his belief on every issue. He knows more than the generals about war. He knows more about the economy than economists. He knows more about the environment than scientists. Education, experience, and expertise are irrelevant compared to his version of papal infallibility. That's what concerns me.
