I don't condone violence against Trump collaborators. In addition to just being wrong, violence would be counterproductive. This is right out of the Ghandi/MLK playbook. The blueprint for (a) winning hearts and minds and (b) effectively compelling social change is not violence but simply refusing to participate in or go along with something that one believes is wrong, and emboldening others to join in taking that stand. If someone is acting as a force against what is right, you don't buy from them, you don't sell to them, you don't work for them, you don't fuck them, and you stand in their way loud and proud at every opportunity. It's a lot harder than it sounds, but in the big picture it can be extremely effective. So yeah, I absolutely condone shunning, shaming, boycotting, and all-around excommunicating Trump collaborators from the society of decent human beings. They should not be able to get a meal at a nice restaurant or a drink at a nice bar in any major city in America. They should not be able to shop, or go to the movies, or walk down the street in peace without being told very clearly WE SEE YOU, AND YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. They should dread at all times showing their faces in public. They have more than earned it. The idea that they can expect to do everything they do with impunity and everyone's just going to sit there politely waiting for them to tell us when it's OK to respectfully request that they stop... THAT is insanity. It's also insane to think that they face so few consequences for their actions through official channels that not getting to eat at a farm-to-table restaurant is being portrayed as some whole new level of bridge-too-far leftist insanity. It's nothing, and yet it seems to be the closest we've come to actually hitting them where it hurts. It's working, this is really getting to them. It must not stop, it must grow, it must become their day-to-day and hour-to-hour reality.12 points

This is my favorite type of Trumpster. The 'bro, I'm chill' version. Pretty much nobody neutral is acting nonchalant about the Dotard being completely out of control. Hell, I was on the R 'team' and still find myself completely on the 'fuck this asshole' side. If you see everything that's going on and act chill...yeah that's a red flag that you might just be an orange cock gobbler. There's nothing wrong with that - just own it. Quit acting like anybody nonpartisan is going along with Trump, like 'oh yeah, he's pretty much a scumbag, but no more than past Presidents'. That's complete bullshit. Oh and your 'my family had a farm on the border and we had lots of immigrants working on it' jive comes off exactly like the bigot who gets caught dropping the N word, then comes off with the 'bro, I have lots of black friends.' So, long story short, I'm calling bullshit. Nite.10 points

My dad was on Royal’s first Championship team in 1963. Never played an O/D snap until around 3:00 left in the game versus Navy. Although he did play special teams for years, it was those final minutes that he “lettered” at UT as a football player. Years of practice and no “playing time” earned his respect among fellow players. His first year on campus had him working the dinning hall as a partial scholarship. The kicker was, that it was the athletes’ dinning hall, so after practice and showering, he had to assist those who he had just practiced against and with. I’m proud of him just as if he’d been an All-American, but he was on the team and got a “T” ring upon graduation from Coach Royal and UT’s first football National Championship. When they had their 40th Anniversary weekend, prior to the Arkansas game, he was one of three asked to speak at the banquet with the team and Coach Royal. He came from a small school in Hardin County and could’ve gone to Rice on a full scholarship, but another fellow Hardin Co. guy, Tony Crosby (kicker from Kountze) helped talk him out of it - so I was told. When they had the 50th celebration a couple years ago, I got to see him on the “jumbo tron” scoreboard - his first and most likely last! As always - “Hook’em”!!!!! i like the part where he had to wait most of the season last year to finally get his chance to plunk Gomez, and then plunked Gomez, then pretended like it was unintentional Edit: I don't think anyone was fooled, not even the ump, but the ump wasn't about to give Gomez the satisfaction because fuck Gomez4 points

It's not keeping up that has become a challenge to me. It's just that I don't care enough about any of the characters or the overall plot to want to keep keeping up. There's no motivation. Regardless of what happens, it's going nowhere, because it's just stuff that happens, and whom it happens to or is caused by really just doesn't matter. I don't care about any of them. If you like a character, you know they're going to change drastically anyway. If one of them dies, you know they're probably going to be resurrected at some point anyway. There's really nothing in it for the viewer any more. It's hard to be curious when you know the possibilities are endless and there are no limits to this particular ever-changing universe, because they can just cheat anything into or out of a plot. They don't even show tits much any more. Not in an enjoyable way, anyhow. Season one was pretty good, with moments of greatness and some really interesting stuff and characters going on. Now it's the total just nonsense of some other poorly written show that's dressed up like Westworld. Y'all enjoy. I'm just not going to waste any more time trying to wish it back to being worthwhile viewing again.4 points

To put this in a bit of perspective. First, in the United States, a jury's verdict is intended, for most if not all purposes, to be a "black box." The system is set up so that the verdict cannot be questioned, except on two grounds: the accuracy and legal rectitude of the instructions given to the jury by the judge and if the verdict is against the great weight of the evidence. Neither of these grounds consider the actual jury deliberations or the deliberative process. Second, the deliberative process of the jury can only be questioned on the basis of "extrinsic evidence" or something external to the jury: you can't just interview jurors after the fact and have them say "oh we considered/didn't consider this or that;" no matter how wrong that consideration was, there has to be some evidence of it besides jurors talking about what they did or didn't do after the fact (called "intrinsic evidence"). For example, if you want to prove jury tampering, you do it by finding out who did the tampering and find the check or other smoking gun, you don't just interview jurors and say "hey did anyone influence your deliberations improperly"? This is a long-established feature of American law and probably was a long-established feature of English law before it prior to 1789. The reason for its existence is partly to make jury verdicts the final word in most matters relating to a trial and because, to one degree or another, we value the jury's judgment without regard to how it reached that judgment (with the two exceptions noted above). This is why "jury nullification" is such a hot topic. Everyone knows they do it and it is perfectly legal because the jury is sacrosanct as set forth above. The question is, should a jury be specifically instructed that it can ignore all the instructions and reach a decision on whatever grounds it wishes. With that understood, just last year, the Supreme Court ruled that racial bias in the justice system is so pervasive and pernicious that the trial judge and courts may consider even "intrinsic evidence" to see if racial animus played a role in the jury's verdict. In other words, a relatively narrow exception was created to more than 200 years of racially neutral American law because racial bias in the justice system is such a problem. In this case, four six Supreme Court justices (there are enough "librul" justices to have granted this one all by themselves 4-5), declined to review this case (grant a writ of certiorari) not because it isn't troubling or because they are fag-hating Trumpkins (they might be, who knows), but because something about this case made it unripe for decision, likely that the evidence of jury "misconduct" is somewhat equivocal and the case is not otherwise well-positioned for Supreme Court review. It doesn't mean they agree with it. Or disagree with it. It's an issue for another day in another case. One thing that strikes me is that this wasn't in the guilt/innocence phase of a criminal trial, but rather in the capital punishment phase, where the scope of deliberations is different. Perhaps had it been sexual orientation animus in the guilt phase of a trial, they would have granted cert. I think they might also prefer less equivocal evidence of the role the animus played.4 points

Lets get the bad out of the way: were the second most popular team in Iowa, despite being the largest university, and being the university who's mission is most aligned with what drives our state. This has created the typical Ag school inferiority complex amongst a large percentage of our fanbase. We frequently jab at Iowa fans for not going to Iowa and shit like that. But we're nowhere near Aggy in terms of being obsessed with the other school. We also don't jerk off into Mason jars, beat women, create non-sense language, or fuck sheep. We also have a total conspiracy theory/martyr mind set. Our history is littered with "shoulda woulda coulda" moments that featured controversial officiating. We nearly lost our existence as an athletic department during the 2010-11 conference realignment because of a bunch of cunt schools. Iowans in general have a mindset that the rest of the country doesn't appreciate us, and all of that bleeds into our fans' savagely booing the officials, regardless of whether the call wasn't correct. The worst things I've publicly uttered were directed at refs during Iowa State games. Ive noticed a lot of other fanbases, particularly KU basketball fans, hating this about us. The Manhattan Project happened at Iowa State as well, so I think that explains a lot of the shit luck. The good: We're one of the top Ag schools in the country. Our most similar fanbases/schools are KSU and OK State, but we bury both of them academically. We were the first school created by the Morril Act. The university predates Ames, and at the time it was built, it wasn't literally two buildings in the middle of nowhere out on the prairie. George Washington Carver did most of his peanut research in Ames. The guy who designed Central Park designed our campus, and it's frequently regarded as one of the most beautiful in the country. Ames is a typical Midwestern college town. It's pastoral, clean, and well maintained. It frequently makes "best places to live" lists, but is also frequently knocked as boring despite having some great bars, restaurants, and cultural venues. ISU is distinctly Iowan. 70% of students are Iowa natives, and frequently small town kids. More of our alumni stay in state after graduation than any other school. Our mission is making Iowa a better place, and we take it seriously. Its this sense of pride that drives our notorious loyalty. That and our Rodney Dangerfield complex. We pack Jack Trice and Hilton because we love ISU, and we really believe we can impact the outcome. That and the party is a good time. Our tailgate scene is fucking wild. It is a celebration of everything ISU. We like to drink. A lot. It's ingrained in the culture of the upper Midwest. Most Iowans claim German, Czech, or Irish backgrounds, which means booze has been bred into us for years. We've been known to drink bars in Kansas City (and Memphis this year) dry. It also makes us a friendly lot. Because we feel that outsiders have either a negative opinion of Iowa, or don't even realize we exist, we go all out to make a good impression. If you've been to a game in Ames, you know what I mean. We aren't much for silly traditions, because we've had pragmatism beaten into us for a century, but the one tradition that we really take pride in is the legacy of Jack Trice. If you don't know the story, he was our first black athlete, and he played at a time when that wasn't socially accepted. He was stomped during a fumble pile up while playing Minnesota in 1923. Presumably due to the color of his skin. He died of those injuries a few days later. Jack was a hell of an athlete, a great student, and the definition of a self made man. He was a true bad ass motherfucker. To this day, the stadium is the only one in FBS football named after a black man. Loyalty, a little inferiority complex, and a lot of booze. Every yard for ISU.4 points

Exactly. It's super annoying (and predictable) that the backlash to the backlash of TLJ paints all the "haters" as loser fanbois who didn't like all the women and politics and what they did to their favorite characters; thus, moving the conversation away from the simple fact that Disney made a terribly written, questionably edited, mostly boring, exceptionally dumb (even in the Star Wars pantheon) movie. Admittedly, dipshits trying to fund a remake are too easy of a target to not attack.3 points

because there is so much activity on this thread, eventually chatter becomes like a "meme", especially when it blows up in everyone's face in a good way. e.g. when everyone shits on a player and says he needs to be released, then he starts balling out, so people continue saying it, even when they clearly don't mean it. or when bregman is discussed as a possible trade chip when he first came up, and now that he's a crucial core piece, people keep mentioning him upping his trade value when he gets the game winning knock. it's like a running gag in a sitcom. and like those, they're often not very funny, but we put up with them.3 points

Again, there is no emotion attached to the word “confiscation” and I did not admit to anything of the sort. I will never be a billionaire nor will I inherit anything from a billionaire. Because I see things differently than you do and you don’t like my opinion you draw attention to yourself and attempt bolster your argument with a phrase that is designed to make yourself seem superior. The only thing it does is prove you to be the condescending person you accuse others (Rex) to be. We simply disagree. If you can’t handle someone disagreeing with you and you then resort to your usual grandstanding tactics as shown on this thread then it is you making the emotional argument.3 points

1000 - Group A Saudi Arabia and Egypt are both Sunni nations. 87-90% of the world’s Muslims are Sunni, unlike Iran, which is Shia. Saudi Arabia and Egypt share the Sinai desert as a common buffer zone, given that one is secular and the other, isn't. When the draw was made on 1 December 2017, this game tomorrow between the two of them looked interesting given that Islamic middle-eastern countries rarely play one another in the World Cup; but with the results in group play to this point, that is no longer the case. Given that the result is meaningless, as a fan of Liverpool, where Mohammed Salah plays, I would prefer that he not play tomorrow. As do Liverpool fans worldwide. Mohammed Salah is The Messiah, and he has a gourd. Uruguay will be happy to not contest the game with Russia, lest they become the target of NKVD snipers, the real kind. Uruguay is lacking the "guy who gets goals for his national team" that doesn't have an amazing record for his club or clubs. Germany had just such a fellow named Miroslav Klose, but he is too old now. Uruguay used to have a guy named Diego Forlan, but he is 39 and a free agent and Uruguay didn't bring him. So, Uruguay's prospects are poor. Uruguay's best player is a vampire, and he bites people. I will have the TV on tomorrow but I will have the sound off unless something dramatic occurss, because I need to spend time on work given that this week is going to be a lot of must-see football.3 points

There's a gentleman in my home group who's been sober since '73. A massive stroke some years ago left him with serious speech problems and the right side of his body is fucked, barely gets around on a cane. It's damn inspiring to see a guy at every meeting that lives with that shit yet wants to keep his mind clear and spirit fit. My self pity is so overwhelming when I say the wrong thing at a social setting/work when I'm not working a good program. When I'm spiritually fit, I could shart myself at a wedding and not a fuck would be given for more than 5 minutes. 5 months today and I'm grateful as hell. Thank you to all of you guys out there working with others and saving lives. I'm one of the lucky ones that was shown a different way of life. Cheers to you and much love.3 points
