  1. When the GOP wants to show examples of liberal extremists, they show anarchists and Kathy Griffith. When Dems want to show examples of right wing extremists, they show clips of the President and Congressmen. Both sides.

  2. Here's a photo that has never been seen by anyone. One of my readers was going through some slides taken by his father when he came across this photo of DKR on October 4, 1952, when # 5 Texas played # 19 Notre Dame. Score is 14-3, Notre Dame. Ended up being the final score.

  7. It behooves the GOP not to resolve issues, but to keep them issues. Health care is another example- oppose the Clinton Universal Healthcare Initiative, propose nothing when you control the House, Senate, and presidency for 4 of W's 8 year, add 161 amendments to the ACA then claim it was railroaded through, make a spectacle trying to overturn it, then faceplant when you unexpectedly find yourself in control of the House, Senate, and presidency again. Then push for cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, for flair. See? Told y'all government can't do anything right.

  9. Leonard Leo of the Federalist Society will advise Trump again. Gorsuch, one of the 21 on the Federalist Society's list, is the type of judge the Federalist Society champions. Pro-Lifers hated the pick because it was widely known Gorsuch supports an individual's right to be left alone (privacy). Gorsuch is also a champion of precedent, which makes it highly unlikely he or the Court would ever overrule Roe. If Leo has Trump's ear again, we will probably see another liberal (classic) nominee akin to Gorsuch. If you are looking for judges as legislators, you will not like the Federalist Society's picks. The Society clings to the separation of powers - where legislators create law, the executive executes the laws, and the judiciary interprets laws. Frankly, the executive branch has been delegated too much power by Congress. Way down in the weeds, it is time to relook at the Chevron doctrine. Gorsuch was a good pick all around. He provides some geographic diversity, which is greatly needed in the full time DC world we created. Gorsuch is a strong supporter of individual liberty. And he is a judge who honors precedent, which provides certainty. The last thing this country needs is cultural war - although partisans of both parties appear eager to engage.

  13. The Supreme Court isn't about social progress. It's about constitutionality. There is no social progress branch of the federal government. The more idiocy I read on this forum the more convinced I am that the biggest problem facing America today is the lack of quality high school civics class teachers.

  14. They won't overturn Roe, they will just hold that all of the insane restrictions that states put on abortions are valid, effectively making abortion illegal in those states. So sure, in 2021 you can get an abortion in Texas, but first you have to name the fetus, throw it a birthday party, invite your parents, pass a calculus test, beat your doctor in an arm wrestling contest, obtain a court order allowing the abortion, inform the father who then has the option of forcing you to carry it to term, recite the alphabet backwards, and no abortions after the 3rd day of pregnancy.

  16. And in the 22 states where the 7.8 million public sector unions were forced to donate to Democrats, they will now have to opt in (opt out was the other option) I do not understand why public sector unions are even legal. They destroying state finances.

  17. Bullshit. Collective bargaining only works as an adversarial system. Collective bargaining with public sector unions is the absolute definition of the fox guarding the henhouse. It should be 100% illegal for public entities to enter into CBAs.

  20. The Dems mistake is that they've been too civil, procedurally speaking (I'm not down with Maxine). The ridiculousness of never even voting on Garland, which in my view was a dereliction of duty by the Senate, was met with acquiescence with Gorsuch, because, you know, it could have been worse. When the dems do try to obstruct, Fox News and their viewers with their short memories cry foul. The 'Pubs don't give a shit about having it both ways, and that's why they constantly and successfully obstruct while winning Oscars at playing victim when the Dems impotently try to do the same.

  21. Thank you for taking time away from the Constitutional Law classes I am sure you teach at a prestigious Ivy League school to come here an enlighten us. The Supreme Court is about constitutionality. Brilliant. And then here I was, about to start talking about the social progress branch of the federal government, because I was sure that it existed and would weigh in on all these issues, but no, I'm wrong, it doesn't even exist! My high school civics teachers completely failed me. I didn't even know the Supreme Court was about constitutionality!

  23. Wrong. It's in the constitution. Kennedy has to give his blessing to his replacement, because only Kennedy knows the password to his computer, where all of the laws are stored. If Kennedy doesn't like his replacement, well you can kiss that password goodbye.

  24. You see the 5-4 ruling yesterday on the California law and its injunction? WASHINGTON — In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday declared as probably unconstitutional a California law that required religiously affiliated pregnancy centers to inform clients about the availability of state-funded services for terminating a pregnancy. The fact that 4 dumb fucks voted the other way is scary. The left has gone off the reservation. There aren’t moderates on the left. It’s socialists, freebies, identity politics and victimhood.

  25. More DNC fuckery...A friend of mine sent me this on condition of anonymity for his upstate candidate brother: When my brother first announced his candidacy for Congress, a bunch of New York state Democratic Party honchos asked to meet with him in Albany. So he traveled out there. One of them was Sam Hoyt, Who is one of Andrew Cuomo’s top advisers, and is something of a poor man’s Anthony Weiner: he’s been fired or forced to resign from multiple government positions, because it is persistent habit of sleeping with interns. Another one was Representative Crowley. Everything was very nice. They told [redacted] he had a “tremendous future in the party,” and then Crowley asked if he could speak to [redacted] in private for a few moments. He told [redacted], “Kid, you don’t have a prayer. We aren't giving you a dime. We don’t support your candidacy.” [Redacted] told him he’s running anyway, and that he would find a way to win. Crowley told him that he was going to get destroyed. Then he said, “And you’re going to learn that you can’t do anything in this state without my say so.” Last night, after the returns were in, [redacted] sent Crowley a text message: “suck it, Crowley.“ At 8 o’clock this morning, he received a series of impassioned phone calls from democratic bigwigs excoriating him for “rubbing salt in Joe’s wounds.”

  26. I would say they are 65-70% responsible for it, but the rest of it can easily be blamed on a) terrible Democrat positioning, platform and messaging, b) weak candidates, and c) yes, the over-the-top, hold-your-breath like a toddler, naive utopia view of the world, racist-calling, I’m smarter than you, folks on the left who refuse to address what are some real issues and instead put most of their energy into belittling others. I see this behavior hundreds of times a day on the Donald Trump thread. They’ve all but driven out reasonable minded individuals, leaving nothing but a few Trump trolls and an echo chamber of the left, where they joke all day long about how every Republican hates brown people. It’s sickening. Yes, there are a bunch of dumb older white dudes out there that have a misguided view of politics. But at the same time, there are also a bunch of dumbass millennials who don’t want to address real issues because it might make someone unhappy or angry. Both sides are a joke, but I will agree that the Republicans are in a comfortable lead as idiots, which is why my voting will be D in the near future. The first party that wakes up and starts proposing real solutions to real problems will get my vote for the long-term.

  27. Counterprotest taunts of the olds could be fun. Not necessarily productive, or engaging in any way....but fun. And at this point, all I expect this country to do as it collapses is to entertain me. "WE LIKE RED HEN, WE'RE THEIR FRIENDS -- YOU'RE JUST OLD FUCKS WHO WEAR DEPENDS" Maybe some cracks about going home to watch Matlock, shit like that. Then we can see some old fuck try to take a swing at someone and fall down. Because fuck it, why not?

  32. The reason why public sector unions require so much cash is because the are essentially fundraising arms for the Democrat party, and until now, much of that fundraising has been legally mandated even among people who would otherwise despise the union's political priorities. The idea that public sector unions are apolitical entities, doing their best to improve the work conditions of their members who would be exploited if not for the unions, is a quaint century-old idea. The modern public sector union is made up of government employees with cushy work environments, and whose mission is to elect Democrats with forced union dues. Private sector unions are fine. Public sector unions are dirtier than the mafia. And more harmful.

  34. Public sector collective bargaining, no. I do not understand why it is legal. It is a union representing government workers who negotiate with the very politicians they bought. The taxpayer gets fucked. And there is no market check like there is with private sector unions. We did not even have public sector unions until 1959. And they have been a disaster to the financial health of state and local governments. Here is what FDR said about them: Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations. The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress. Accordingly, administrative officials and employees alike are governed and guided, and in many instances restricted, by laws which establish policies, procedures, or rules in personnel matters.”

  38. I get that perspective in normal times. These are not normal times. The only policy that matters in 2018 is opposing Trump. You can count on Dems to do that, and you can count on GOP congressmen to be sycophant pussies.

  39. Just skimming through this thread, it's pretty clear most of you will be on suicide watch if Trump is re-elected. I'll check back in 2 years and a few months for the sorrow or the jubilation. It should be fun either way. I voted democrat for the first time in my life for Obama's first term. What followed was 7 of the worst years my business ever experienced, 1st year wasn't too bad. 2017 was my best year ever and 2018 is looking even better. I vote with my wallet, which I'm guessing a majority of people do. Now if the economy tanks before the next election, my vote will be wide open to whom I feel is the best candidate. There's way too much hate on both sides anymore to consider myself anything but an independent. I'm fiscally conservative but a little more liberal socially, but I definitely lean just a little to right of center. I just get turned off by the loudest mouths on both sides of the isle, Hannity, Tucker, and pretty much anyone on msnbc and a few on CNN.
