The GOP only wants less government when it comes to assistance for the poors and the browns or oversight and regulation of their business interests. The GOP wants more government when it comes to regulating people's behavior. No, Tex, they advocate for state's rights on personal issues! Sure they do. That's why there's still a federal marijuana law that takes precedence even in the several states that have legalized it. The GOP cares about two things: helping the wealthy make more money and legislating morality for everyone. That's it. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.7 points

I don't even think the main motivator behind this pardon is about race. It's about empowering militias and fringe armed groups. This emboldens them knowing that the President will pardon them. Now Trump is building his army that will strike if/when pushed from office by the "deep state". This also plays into Russia's strategy of sowing chaos in our society.7 points

SCOTUSBlog isn't anonymous; it's run by Tom Goldstein and his wife. Tom regularly has cases before the Court and has a strong bias towards supporting the Court as an institution. He does not want to piss off the justices or endanger his standing as a prominent Court watcher. The blog is a great resource for relatively objective analysis of decisions and information on pending cases and even inside baseball, but I wouldn't necessarily trust their opinion on whether a justice would have done something improper unless they have some specific to report. It's worth factoring in, just not definitive. That said, the NBC report isn't necessarily the gospel either. And if NBC did get this wrong, they've caused real harm to the credibility of the court.7 points

The right outright stole a Supreme Court seat from a decent, qualified judge with a love for the rule of law and the Constitution because they made a vow in 2010 to obstruct every single thing Obama tried to do. You don't get to bitch about Democrats being salty and obstructing now. You lost that right years ago.7 points

Having a great resume and being deserving are different things. Hillary had a great resume and I'm sure you think she didn't deserve to be president. But all of this ought to be a moot point anyway. The president is under criminal investigation right now, his allies are pleading guilty and rolling over as we speak, and he gets to name the swing vote in the Supreme Court that may someday hear his case? That isn't the most obvious conflict of interest in history? And all of this after the Right stalled for almost a year on a perfectly valid nominee because they just didn't think Obama should get a nominee in his final year? This is the crookedest shit in the history of American jurisprudence. Historians will scratch their heads at this for centuries. It's just another chapter in the farce that we've become.6 points

Very cool to see "centrists" and "moderates" joining the buffoon con-man Donald Trump in assailing the free press. Undoubtedly, journalists* have gotten things wrong, but they issue retractions and explanations and work to at least end up with the truth even if they don't get it immediately. American journalists from real publications: Right 90% of the time and apologize/retract for the 10% Donald Trump: Wrong 75% of the time and never apologizes Very Brilliant Centrist, "Hmm, looks the same to me!" * - Not pundits and op-ed writers, but actual journalists. Past that, why are you people acting like it's beyond conscience that Donald Trump and the Kennedys colluded on the pick? Is it really unbelievable that the con-man and one of the most disgusting wannabe-royal-families in the nation rubbed shoulders in order to secure their power? Do you people not pay attention to the world around you? It's almost like they knew ahead of time who the picks would be and knew all the picks would be a threat to the values the sign-makers hold dear. Weird. I wonder how they knew those names! The "gotcha" in this stupid picture is like revealing that Hillary was preparing to run against all the GOP primary candidates. "Oh, Hillary, you were already coming up with a plan to defeat Jeb before he ran? I guess you don't even wait to see who the opponent is before trying. You are a crazy reactionary!" American centrists are the dumbest fucking smart people imaginable.5 points

A group of 3rd & 4th graders, accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to the local racetrack to learn about thoroughbred horses & the supporting industry, but mostly to see the horses. When it was time to take the children to the bathroom, it was decided the girls would go with one teacher & the boys would go with the other. The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside the men's room when one of the boys came out & told her that none of them could reach the urinal. Having no choice, she went inside to see what was going on & apparently this old racetrack was old & didn't have any updated facilities. The only thing she could figure out was to help the boys with their pants & she began hoisting the little boys up one by one, holding on to their 'pee-pees' to direct the flow away from their clothes. As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he was unusually well endowed. Trying not to show that she was staring the teacher said, 'You must be in the 5th grade.' 'No, ma'am', he replied. 'I'm riding Silver Arrow in the seventh race, but I appreciate your help.'5 points

Fucking fake accounts? Shit, my account was hacked 5+ years ago and started filling up my 8 followers with spam. I contacted Twitter numerous times to correct the issue and was basically told I couldn't prove it was my account even though I had access to all associated other accounts. They clearly didn't give a fuck and don't give a fuck. They just want volume. Even now I'm told anytime I click on a Twitter link from Tapa that it's taking too long and that it's my fault and I need to sign up for Twitter. I tried and they said the account was already in use. No shit, it's my email address and my account that you locked me out of so you could let spammers increase your post count. Twitter encourages hackers and spam accounts. Beyond that, Twitter is ruining social discourse and helping to destroy the country.5 points

Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on the running backs this year. This is the deepest the room has been in as long as I can remember in terms of guys with upper end talent. Daniel Young - 6'0 210 Similar body type to Kyle Porter, but does everything we'd want a guy like Kyle Porter to do, much better, except pass protect and that's still TBD. He's a guy who will be able to be consistently leaned on in a running back rotation, regardless of talent that makes it's way to campus in the future. Vision can't be taught. 5.1 YPC on 23 attempts last year. Toneil Carter - 6'0 205 The one guy on the team with proven big play ability from the back field who is able to play 2 games without getting injured. Sky is the limit for Toneil. He's more inconsistent than Young in what we saw, but to me has shown flashes of a higher ceiling. Quickness and vision is dangerous, and has the highest top end speed of someone who carried the ball last year out of the RB position. 4.9 YPC on 37 attempts last year. Keaontay Ingram - 6'1 190 He's a freshman. We don't know what to expect. His HS tape shows a quick, elusive, purposed runner, who runs a bit high, but given a set of cutback or counter plays and inside zone to keep the defense honest, could be really dangerous in this offense. In an attempt to compare what someone of his ability and recruiting ranking (247 composite #6, .9324 rating) has shown is capable of in the past 3 years or so as a freshman, we can consider our very own Toneil Carter, Devwah Whaley, Trey Sermon, and Saquon Barkley as players who saw some significant playing time as a freshman. While Saquon is an outlier and Trey Sermon benefitted from having Baker Mayfield under center, it would be a welcome addition to get 5 YPC out of another set of legs in the backfield, especially one with pigskin security and big play ability. Tre Watson - 247 says 5'11 205, looks shorter Has the most experience out of the group, minus Kyle Porter, whom I will leave out of this discussion, in large part due to the addition of Tre Watson. I see Watson as a replacement for Kyle Porter in all passing situations where we'd want an experienced RB to help with blitz pickups to go along with someone quick out of the backfield. Hasn't had a single season where he's had 200 carries, but will not be asked to be the primary ball carrier unless he shows out. He has a career rushing average of 5.1 YPC, but given his 2 best and most heavily used seasons out of the backfield were alongside Jared Goff and a 5th year senior Davis Webb, he had a massive benefit and likely took advantage of soft defenses. This can't be understated. Will we want to use him in some different ways than the previous 3: draws and counters out of the shotgun on passing downs, screens and passes to the flat. He's our "keep em honest" RB. We have a back field with 4 different guys that have different skillsets that Stan Drayton, Herb Hand and Tom Herman need to be able to make good use of to take heat off of Sam and/or Shane and/or Cam (I kid I kid). The talent level is the highest and deepest it's been in a while. We need to take a massive leap forward in the running game, it's the difference between 7-5 and 10-2. And if Kyle Porter sees the field, it should only be in mop up duty after Keaontay needs a rest.4 points

He usually says he's a "Democratic Socialist", the accepted definition of which is pretty clear. He has sometimes used the shorthand "socialist" but that is not what he actually advocates. Socialism requires that corporations cede all control to the government. Bernie advocates for stronger regulation on corporations. I did not vote for Bernie, by the way. I just think it's absurd how the right uses "socialist" as a label to make him the instant boogeyman.4 points

again, and i'm starting to get repetitive and preachy, so i'll leave well enough alone soon enough, but this is the fucking problem. we should reward good behavior and punish bad behavior. if my kid has had a shitty day, just one of those days where he's really feeling his oats and is a smart ass, defying authority, and generally not listening, he knows he's going to be grounded the next day. however, after all that, if he does something right, i'm not going to bring up all the other stuff. he still gets praise for doing the right thing at the end of the day. this judge has already cited precedent on roe v wade. he's made what appear to be logical, if conservative, decisions in the past. reward trump for not trying to ramrod rudy giuliani or some other shitty equivalent through. reward the good behavior, and keep an eye on some kind of endgame. if we continue this cycle of obstuct on partisan lines JUST FOR THE SAKE OF IT, then our government will break down further. and that's not a good thing. be good stewards. that's what hey are supposed to do. not make us feel good about some empty "win."4 points
