Today is his birthday and I revealed this at 12:00am. I hid it for a couple of weeks and things have been crazy in the house because I just started a new job and it has required some major adjustments in our routine. He's been a champ and rolled with it and has been incredibly supportive. Anyway, I made him hide while I set it up on a stand and turned on the lights so that he could see it in it's relative glory. He had no idea what the hell I was doing. I'm not shitting you, when he saw it the first thing out of his mouth was "Slash." I couldn't believe it. I teared up a bit because that's what I was going for and you all helped me out. Actually, you all hooked me up. Then he had so many questions about how I found it and ....well, he was excited about the thought that went into it and was blindsided by it. Then I tried to explain humbuckers, P90's, and tube vs solid state amps. I stopped. Today was a good day. Thanks yo you all! anonymous image hosting13 points

It is some riiiiiich bullshit watching a fucking okie attempt to talk to us about class from the coaching ranks. You fucking shitbags haven’t had a coach come within a country mile of class in the entire history of your corrupt, fast food, low rent, carnival barking, yak woman-licking, shithole of a program. You’ve had coaches enabling drug dealers, woman beaters, rapists, academic cheats and general outlaw antics regarding paying players and spying on other programs, all the while smiling through their crooked teeth and whooping it up with their fans and boosters as it happened. The fucking horns down is your only hand sign and your coaches do it with aplomb. You wouldn’t know class if a fucking school fell from the sky and landed on your hillbilly head. As to the rest of these people bawling, fuck them if they can’t take a joke. I hope Tom Herman is the most hateable coach in college football to all of the other programs. I’m tired of being the only program to hate the Texas coach, personally.9 points

Then why make any fielder bat? Just put your best 9 hitters out there. While you’re at it move the fences in to about 250 feet. That should give morons who don’t understand strategy plenty of runs.4 points

The bottom line is that with any investigatory agency, everything runs on evidence and how reliable that evidence is. When there is more independent verification for any piece of evidence, it is given a higher reliability. That is why single source intelligence is given low credibility. The term Intelligence Community or IC isn't meant to be monolithic, it's just a way to encompass each independent agency whether they are law enforcement, civilian, military, or anything else. It's a rare event that the entire IC would have to be called upon in the instance of what happened in the 2016 election. Each agency used their independent methods and tools to gather evidence and make a determination. From those independent verifications, a consensus was determined with all the sources concluded the same thing, thus the overall determination coming from the IC as a whole.4 points

Texas OU is bad ass, but so was playing Arky and A&M. We’ve made Baylor and TCU our replacement rivalries. That’s just dumb. We all laugh at A&M and loathe Arky but damnit if watching Colt push A&M’s shit in wasn’t all kinds of awesome and what about Tony Jones miracle catch from Stafford in Fayettenam? We don’t have that anymore. Those that talk about regional rivalries have it. Those have been largely destroyed at least for Texas fans. You could go 8-5 but if you beat OU, Arky and A&M it was a good season. Now it’s all or nothing. And ticket prices and TV is easy and atmosphere is shitty, etc. but in the end it comes down to hatred. I’m apathetic to Iowa State, I hate Arky and A&M and would watch those games no matter what. Oh well.4 points

Manafort watching his drunken wife be gang-banged by a roomful if guys, when she has mental issues due to an injury, is one of the creepiest things to come out of this administration. For anybody else late to the Lil Jordan Poetry conversations, here is a link. I'll go along with CDC and Herman. It's not good poetry, but good for him for giving it a shot. You only become good at something by being bad at it for awhile. On the subject of the poem, he comes close to articulating the interesting irony of doing something you love which also allows you the perspective of still seeing similarities to the worst days for black people. Even in this greatly improved life, there are ominous forces at work to promote hate and keep blacks separate. The irony is that when players reach college, the game becomes increasingly less like a game. You work your ass off doing hard work to get the payoff of a degree or, if excellent, a spot on a pro team. There you are traded and discarded like meat which does echo of slavery even if it is clearly not slavery. You get plenty of money and can leave whenever you want. There's nothing wrong with how the NFL works, but it's ironic that the system has resemblance to the functions of slavery. The NFL (or NCAA) is no more slavery than football is war, but football feels like war with (almost) nobody getting killed. A footballer lives something like a soldier, but few would claim they have the experience or pay the costs of a true combat soldier. LJH did fine. I hope he keeps thinking and keeps finding ways to illuminate what he thinks about. A critical mind is a terrible thing to waste.2 points

Erik's dad was locked up his whole life, and the one man who could have actually been a positive influence on him (former Pflugerville coach George Herman) did everything in his power to show Erik that he was above the law for four straight years. I remember Erik being pulled from our pre-AP English class our freshman year the day after the varsity football season ended so he could join the offseason program. He never returned but got credit for the course. He'd skip class, skip school, skip practice, show up late, not take the coaches seriously, and there were no punishments, ever. Well, he got to UT, (and you can ask anybody who was there in 03-04, and trust me, i've asked more than a dozen of them), and he was apparently the best RB on the team. I have spoken first hand to multiple OL from that team and they swear he was better than Cedric Benson. Even I found that hard to believe at first, but if i'm lying in dying- multiple guys have said that. Essentially every time i bring his name up guys all respond the same. "Yeah, I remember Erik, that dude was a monster, he should have been in the league; what is he up to now?" He was that good, even as a true freshman. Even guys i talked to who themselves played in the NFL all said the same thing. Anyway, he knew he was that good, but his grades were not going to be up to par, and Mack wanted to redshirt him anyway, so that's what happened, and Erik was stunned. Like, biggest shock of his entire life. His first reality check ever. And he did not respond well. Basically, the guys he hung out with were thugs and losers, and he spent more time hanging out at Between The Lines tattoo shop (where all the UT guys back then got tatted) than he did on campus. In my opinion he was clinically depressed, and simply snowballing, making one wrong decision after another. Firs there was the cocaine incident. He was in a car that got pulled over and he had something like 23 grams of coke and $4300 cash on him. He got deferred adjudication or whatever it is, but then he and another 5* kid from Pflugerville decided to rob some people and got caught. All of the old cocaine chargers came back, and he got an agg assault charge or two, and now he's not eligible for parole until 2028, with a projected release date of 2036. It's one of the most surreal things in my life. I still write him, i still know his mom, my best friend and I who grew up with him still talk about him all of the time. All this time we've spent since we were 19 (were now 33 going on 34) he's spent behind bars. And i swear to god, i know how it sounds, but he *was* a good kid. He was immature- that's it. He didn't bully people, he didn't commit crimes, he was not a thug or a criminal by any means- but then life hit him hard, and he just snowballed. I'd compare his story to that of Josh Hamilton, another guy who was totally normal until he was on his own for the first time, when a perfect storm of mental fragility and messed up circumstances led to his snowballing out of control. I can't even explain how sobering it is to think about. I would have given anything to have his life all the way up until he got to UT, and yet, despite having serious troubles of my own, all the money in the world isn't worth what he's been through since then. Ill finish by saying that I know that ctj in particular (whose opinion i respect) has said that he believes that Erik was overrated, but just ask anyone who was with him at Texas- "Hey, do you remember Erik Hardeman?" They've all reacted the exact same way to me thus far, which indicates the hype was real. He was a grown man in HS, and he's still by far the most dominant player we've had at PHS- even more so than Alex Okafor, and by some margin. His talent and potential was unlimited. He was over 200 lbs and loved to initaiate contact, yet he was a good enough athlete to average 43 yards per kick return as a junior. Teams literally refused to kickoff deep against us his senior year. He was simply a born football player. He's up there with Ced B, DJ, AD, and Jamaal among the best HS players i've ever seen. It's such a shame that things went so south, so fast. To me and everyone else from Pflugerville, Erik Hardeman is "the greatest who never was".2 points
