  1. This presents an opportunity to have an extremely inexpensive military parade.
    12 points
  2. Trying to make the false equivalency that a parade to stroke the ego of a puppet is some how the same as removing historic roadblocks to the civil rights of our people is completely asinine. These two things are not at all the same and it's not even in the same fucking realm of reality. As a Veteran, I dont really give a damn what civilians think of transgender servicemembers, gay servicemembers, women in combat or anything else when it comes to the military. If you've never served, then you really dont have the qualifications necessary to interject your opinion. The only question that needs to be answered is whether or not a servicemember can perform the mission they are assigned. If the answer Is yes, they have every right to perform said mission, if the answer is no then they should not be in the service. Medical issues are between that specific servicemember and their doctor. Their doctor will make a determination for any limitations for whatever medical situation they are faced with. Your want to be offended by someone else's gender identity or sexual orientation doesn't supersede thair right to serve faithfully and honorably with my brothers- and sisters-in-arms and myself. So fuck off with your butthurt cause we have more important shit to take care of.

  4. Incorrect. Removing hurdles that should never have been there in the first place is not a social experiment. Diversity adds value as it enables any group who are sufficiently diverse to learn from each other where as groups that are not diverse will stagnate and not be able to form new ideas. Sure, in the immediate future they might survive, but over time the same ideas will keep getting recycled over and over. The only true superpower this country has is diversity. That diversity is the best thing we can possibly hope to put our hope for the future upon. I'm sorry you can't see that, but that's on you. So sit your punk ass down and get out of the way because progress stops for no one.

  9. We went through a long period where there wasn’t significant ideological differences between major party candidates. Both party candidates embraced traditional American values and democracy (for the most part). There was a ton of common ground shared between Clinton/Bush, Clinton/Dole, Gore/Bush, Kerry/Bush, Obama/McCain, Obama/Romney. It had a demoralization effect on a lot people presupposing everything would be fine as long as a major party candidate won. There’s no way we’d get an overt traitor to American values on the ballot among the major parties. Not only did we get one but people didn’t even notice his anti-American positions and authoritarian tendencies when they were on display, repeatedly. People gravitated to Trump’s energy because it was so new and different from anything we’ve seen before. His messaging was very seductive and everyone was already familiar with the media personality Donald Trump. Despite the desperation for something new and different, I think most Americans had strong enough faith in our institutions to check the president should anything go terribly wrong. They rolled the dice with Trump because Hillary was the epitome of “same old same old”. Unfortunately, most Trump voters didn’t appreciate just how fragile democracy is and were unable to recognize the threats when they showed up.

  13. It's not just a dog and pony show. It's a draft dodger ordering troops to put on a dog and pony show just for him. I can't imagine the uproar if Bill Clinton had the nerve to make the troops prance around for his ego, but for some reason that aspect doesn't matter when it comes to Trump, who gets purple hearts given to him by Vets despite trashing Gold Star parents, saying POWs aren't heroes, and the rest. But, most of them voted for him as their CIC despite all that, so I suppose they're getting exactly what they wanted.

  14. Despite conventional wisdom that Darrell Royal invented the Texas Wishbone Offense 50 years ago, it was actually Al Gore. As this surprisingly excellent ESPN article shows, the former VP's innovative offense is still influencing the college game today. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24175747/texas-iconic-wishbone-offense-50-influential-college-football

  19. Why, in every fucking basketball thread on this board, do rockets fans think that someone disagreeing with them automatically makes them a Spurs or Mavs fan. The Spurs fans on here don’t do that. I don’t watch the Mavs enough to know if they do or not. People can have different opinions than you without being a shill for another team. Especially when the topic is whether or not Melo will succeed lol. For the record, I’m none. I’m a basketball fan.

  24. Neither. BurgerShop Canecutter will put you both out of business with fresher, better-tasting $8 burgers that people will find out about when they come in for our loss-leader $1 Bucket-o-Fries. Why? Because we will be grilling onions in the back and pumping the smell out with fans, oldest carney food trick in the book. We will also hire cheerful fat people and give them a food discount that still allows us a hefty profit. We won't need extra customers, we'll basically be hiring our own. But we'll get extra customers. Grilled onions.

  26. Hit Hays County last week on my way down to San Antonio. Good stop. No wait at all and BBQ was pretty solid top to bottom. I'd probably give it a strong B+ overall. Tried to do a little bit of everything (within reason). I can't stand it when people come on here to ask for advice and then do the opposite of the advice they were given, so I tried to take your advice on as much to order as possible...minus the bread and tea. I think their pork ribs were the best followed by their brisket, but both really solid. Jap cheddar sausage had good flavor and snap to it. Pork chop was my wife's idea and it was just okay. Pulled pork was the worst, but that was probably my fault as it wasn't really offered as a stand-alone meat...it was just the pulled pork from their sandwich. Sides of beans and hatch mac were both really good but I'm not sure I'd waste the stomach room on them if I went back as I liked most of the meats better. For some reason, I had pictured the place being shittier...more of a run down shack than what it was. I get the feeling it used to be that way, but is now fairly new with a remodel or something? They had a new guy in training cutting meat, so he was struggling a little. But, no biggie...other than discarding a piece of fat and a piece of burnt from my brisket. Other than that, my only complaint is when I went to take a post-meat shit before getting back on the road, they had one of those toilet paper dispensers that you have to struggle with to get anything more to come out than like one square at a time. What a beating. Anyway, overall pretty damn good and would stop again there for sure.

  27. Young people say they cant afford it, but at the same time they base their lives off take home pay rather than yearly salary, so most of them actually can. You do have to do it early, and in your first real job, before you have time to get accustomed to higher take home pay. Back when I started working, I barely made anything, but put nearly 1/3 of my income into a 401k anyway. It made budgeting tight, but was well worth it in the long run.

  36. Some of you have this weird fascination with the aggy game that it never merited. After everything they did in leaving the conference, they don’t deserve to play us. But let’s not act like it was a healthy rivalry over the preceding their chickenshit move. Flashback to the Bonfire game. 12 aggies were killed due to drunken negligence in the week leading up to our annual game. Texas bent over backwards to show sympathy and kindness to their university for several days. We held blood drives, among other things, to show that we’re all Texans and that we could come together to rise above tragedy. Mack Brown said all the right things as an ambassador of The University. And I knew we didn’t stand a chance in the game because we were focused on showing mercy and they were focused on winning the game to honor their senselessly killed brethren. How were we repaid? By shitty aggy fans lining the road into college station with nasty derogatory signs to greet our team buses. By shitty aggy fans calling our players’ rooms all hours of the night before game day, despite the hotel having been told that no calls should be put through to the rooms. By shitty hotel staff deliberately no-showing to cook breakfast for our team before the game. By having to eat at Jack in the Box or eating bowls of cereal before the game, and several of our players getting food poisoning. By a dumbass aggy fan yelling “beat the hell out of...” during a moment of silence while our band was playing a tribute to the needlessly killed aggies. Do you remember any big apologies from Texas A&M? Me, either That’s not a healthy rivalry. Those people are deranged. I won’t even bring back up the time (as I’ve mentioned here a few times) the looney 50-something aggy choked a Longhorn fan in the stands at the 2005 aggy game for no other reason than we were about to win the game. Not only should we never play them again, we should probably file a restraining order against them. Fuck those classless turds.

  37. 1. thread should have been titled "current bitchassedness re: DKR in the late 20-teens"; my list is only things we can control/demand/dictate. 2. CDC to Bowlsby: effective immediately, all DKR kickoffs before 0u are to be at 7pm central. If the league doesn't want to deal with it, we'll put those games on LHN. 3. CDC to Bowlsby: effective immediately, Fair Park is a 2pm or 3pm kickoff. It would be nice if Castiglione would also add his signature. 4. CDC to Bowlsby: effective immediately, if we play a league game the week before Fair Park, it is a home game. Also, see #2 above. 5. CDC to Bowlsby: effective immediately, our off-week follows Fair Park. 6. CDC to Bowlsby: on rivalry weekend, we play away on Saturday at 2pm. 7. Real Grass, with the same precise construction as Fair Park. 8. PMS 159. End Zones. Midfield. Uniforms. 9. No names on the back. 10. LHB pumped through Zilla. 11. Cheer and Pom on Zilla. 12. Replays on Zilla. 13. Bevo on Zilla. 14. Either Orange or White Cheer is _not_ tumbling and stunting. Said squad based on undergrad upperclassmen vote. 15. Junior and Senior scholarships for Pom, based on undergrad upperclassmen vote. 16. 50% of Fair Park tickets go to students by lottery, 4 per award, up to 4 can apply together. Sections 6-15 100% foundation donation only. 17. All vehicle traffic and parking spaces on campus on game day to be for tailgates only, and sold/permitted based on season ticket investment longevity regardless of Foundation donation history. 18. San Jacinto to be 100% pedestrian on game day. No vehicles or parking at all. 19. For 90 minutes after the game, Red River, MLK, The Drag and 26th are one-way flowing clockwise, with no cross traffic. 20. For 90 minutes after the game, all traffic from the above cordon flows one way outward to 12th, Lamar, 30th/32nd, and the north 35 access road. 21. Camp Mabry MP in command of Camp Swift MP to administer and execute all game day parking and traffic. No APD at all. No aggy at all. 22. Cap-Metro game-day bus assault system. FREE with your season ticket purchase, paid for by _________ named sponsor(s), subsidized by your Belmont season ticket purchase. Ride the bus to your friend's tailgate. Buses run beginning 3 hours before kickoff, last bus 90 minutes after kickoff. 23. Free parking with CCTV and armed security at bus assault system nodes at ACC Northridge, ACC Highland, ACC Montopolis and Barton Square. 24. Cap-Metro game-day bus assault system online webapp run by not Belmont and not Cap-Metro. Outsourced, hosted and designed for browsers by humans, not for phones by millenials. 25. Forgot: CDC to Bowlsby/Castiglione - effective immediately in Fair Park, we'll move the dividing line one seat to the west on both sides of the stadium, and we get back the front of section 15. If that doesn't even up the missing seats from section 33, then the balance comes from section 106 one seat at a time starting at the top and working down. Having that block of thieves in section 15 is just stupid. 26. Dedicated Season Ticket Holder lines at Fletcher's on Fair Park game day. Every 0-u ticket includes two (2) special Season Ticket Holder Fair Park Lottery Winner Fletcher's Vouchers each good for two (2) Fletcher's and two (2) Dr. Peppers made with Cane Sugar. Electroshock systems for Fletcher's employees to get the lines moving. 27. Forgot: reduplicate The Grove on Speedway, the South Mall, all around The Tower, 24th, and every place in between DKR.
