  1. Some friends and former coworkers of mine have been seeing their work visas getting rescinded, causing them to have to sell their 300k+ house, pull their american citizen kid(s) out of school, and move their entire family back to india, despite working a $100K+ job running engineering and infrastructure for a retail company's website (not amazon). My friends are being hurt by trump. There are still over 500 children that were separated from their parents that the trump admin is doing NOTHING to put back together with their parents - they're even trying to defer that to the ACLU because they can't be bothered to do so. The stock market is great right now, but we are one bad event away from a major market correction - hell even just increasing the interest rate marginally may bring down this house of cards. Our president is violating peoples 1st amendment rights in the form of firing them and going after their pension for speaking out against him - and you can't even hide behind the excuse that they were bad at their job BECAUSE TRUMP HIMSELF SAID THAT'S WHY THEY WERE FIRED! I get that you probably have some latent syphilis from your time at tech that's slowing down the ol' graymatter, but you really need to pull your head out of your ass my dude.

  2. Trump is dismantling the post-war system built by the United States. The same one that allowed us to run shit for decades. The ill effects won’t be immediately apparent. They won’t cost slorch any cash this year. But they will come. And when they do, morons like slorch will blame Nancy Pelosi or the secret Clinton-Obama shadow government for all the dumb shit Trump is doing.

  3. I think that what needs to be kept in mind is that the vax schedule is a public health initiative. It is intended to reflect a single, coherent approach to addressing vaccine preventable disease in a way that can be consistently implemented across a wide variety of people in this country, representing a range of demographic and socio economic factors and variety of different levels of engagement with the healthcare system. It is a "one size fits all" program, for good reason. With that goal in mind, it works well, and stacking the immunizations is a critical component of the initiative. So that's the science, it's one part health beliefs and behaviors, one part access to care, and one part epidemiology. The population level epidemiological argument for the vax schedule is so compelling that to argue against it as a public health initiative amounts basically to arguing that the world is flat. Now that being said, it is not contradictory at all to also hold the position that aspects of the schedule may not make sense when an individualized risk/benefit assessment is performed on specific components of the schedule. Population level vs. individual level. And further that heavy handed dismissal of the concerns that some parents have, and the anxiety experienced around the issue by many first time parents in particular, can be counterproductive to the ultimate goal to ensure that vax is achieved. A final broader note that colors my thinking in general. People generally give the regulators far too much credit when it comes to establishment of drug safety during registration trials. The reality is that the adverse event profile of a given medical intervention is not well understood until the drug is approved and you get enough exposures in a diverse real world population to provide the type of statistical power necessary to reveal these associations. This is particularly true when relatively low frequency events are being observed. Shit, sometimes its a challenge when even high frequency adverse events are in play. Given the evolution of the vax schedule over the past couple decades, I don't think having some questions about the potential safety implications are unwarranted. There are specific examples in the vaccine world of problems after new products are released, e.g. rotavirus. That's actually a great example of post-marketing safety surveillance in the vax area at work (and working well). There is also ongoing work, based on an Institutes of Medicine recommendations, to conduct large scale observational studies to evaluate the safety of the vax schedule and examine outcomes associated with alternative schedules. I think that that work is really important.

  4. I live in a country that was working to lead the world in providing equality to all, not only here but abroad. To slow or take away evil leaders who oppress their people in other countries. Now, we take babies from their mothers, we stop people from coming to the country because of their religion, we minimize the value of our allies and instead want to make allies with our enemies (who are still actively trying to undermine our values), and we equate the morals of concerned citizens with literal Nazi's. Does that directly impact me as a white middle-class male? No, but indirectly, it absolutely does. And it impacts the the course of our country for decades which impacts my child. I implore you to tell me where I'm wrong.

  5. How did some people look at David Koresh and think, yeah, that guy is the messiah? How do some people learn about Xenu and think, yeah, that space overlord exists and lives in an electronic prison cave in the Pyranees and, 75 million years ago, brought billions of aliens to Earth, tied them to volcanoes, exploded them with atomic bombs, and caused their disembodied souls to attach to primative humans where they still torment us to this day? Trump is a con artist leading a cult. There's no deeper explanation than that. He found millions of rubes who were susceptible to a particular message and they'll support him through anything against all evidence.

  7. so i've come to believe that it's important to view trump tweets in the cluster context of his posting them. last night was a special night. somebody upthread said "our president is sundowning" and that's EXACTLY what these tweets seem like. having taken care of an elderly person, something does happen around sundown that makes them extra special crazy. let's look at our president's sundown last night: so, essentially, he's asking the wonderful christian pastor to rot for us. obviously, we do not negotiate with terrorists, though in this case, it's our guy accused of terrorism. i know next to nothing about the charges or the case, but i would presume our guy is probably innocent. however, this tweet does nothing but pour gas on an existing fire. dumbass. this has no context. i have no idea what he's on about here. it's his old Rigged Witch Hunt saw playing, I see. There's a name in there I do not recognize (who the fuck is bruce ohr and what has he done to donald trump?), and he can again try to pick on strzok, but i'm not sure what this is about. this seems like a confused man trying to craft a message, but who cannot get the clauses right so it comes out all muddled. no puppet. no puppet. you're the puppet. in other news, our president does almost no work during his day, instead choosing to watch tv, and more incredibly, live tweet his experience! THIS HAPPENS DAILY. i guess that's fine. anyways, he's still on about the steele dossier. this means the pee tape is real. i'm convinced. here's the mysterious bruce ohr again. the time stamps are important. this tweet is 15 minutes after his last mention of bruce ohr and the Rigged Witch Hunt. in case you forgot he thinks this investigation is a Rigged Witch Hunt, he'll tell you again 15 minutes later. like an old person telling you something they told you 15 minutes ago. that's our president. anyways, i guess bruce ohr is next in some kind of crosshairs. i'm not sure how one becomes a target, but when you have a man like donald trump, who deals only in projection and targets, nobody is safe. still watching tv, seeking affirmation from the ever-befuddled tucker carlson, who really is just asking questions, right? now, let's try not to linger on the absurdity of tucker fucking carlson calling someone else "limited intellectually," but this is what our president is choosing to focus upon. justification of his revocation of brennan's clearance. AFFIRMATION, BABY! drink in that drug, and enjoy that dopamine, bro! but really, this is simple stream of consciousness, with no real thread of coherency. what does the latter have to do with the former? nothing. just something else upon which to harp. i guess richard blumenthal is an important figure who also must be targeted! 11 minutes between tweets. and again about richard blumenthal. what the fuck did this guy do? oh. he called out the cost of the parade that would aggrandize trump as commander in chief of all this military might. mistake, richard. tsk tsk. donald has no bones of forgiveness in his old frame. it's been an hour. donald will probably slow down and cool off, right? nope! he goes back to an old standby - some hack from the ever credible judicial watch! at this point, he's posting opinions that agree with his worldview. this is important, i think, because he isn't he one saying that brennan has gone off the deep end. someone has taught this old dog about plausible deniability, but he's so transparent that we can so easily see through these tweets to the rotten core of a man. so, here we are, still seeking affirmation for a much criticized decision. and we are still watching tv and live tweeting it. not only that, but here we are, speculating as to possible things that may have happened, to get that dopamine wave. GOD IT FEELS SO GOOD THANK YOU LOU DOBBS FOR THIS NOW I CAN GO TO BED GOODNIGHT MOON

  10. It's the crisis of ME. If nothing happens to ME, RIGHT NOW, all is fine, no need for concern. Nevermind that my neighbor (a word from the Bible, perhaps you've heard of it? I THINK it even sold more copies than "Art of the Deal," although Trump may disagree) has been separated from her young child. My neighbor has lost his job due to a stupid trade war. My jewish neighbor, who had never even held a gun before last year, now owns one, because nazis are a real thing. Nevermind that my neighbors have been fired from government jobs for exercising their First Amendment-protected right to free speech. Nevermind that when it comes to our position in the globe vis-a-vis other nations, we are in that spot right before the tsunami hits -- hey, more beach. Everyone, come stand out here, the beach is bigger than ever! [a bit later, wave comes and drowns all the idiots] Me. Now. That's the only existence in America that matters to way too many people. Pretty fucked up state of affairs for a country whose charter document LITERALLY BEGINS WITH THE WORD "WE."

  12. I have family members who now have to worry that Trump’s Xenophobia Action Squad might find a typo in their naturalization forms and deport them. Odds are they won’t be deported. But, even if they remain in the US, they’re now in a class of people that Trump has publicly identified to his shitheel base of mean-spirited Fox News-absorbing dolts as inherently suspect and possibly not fully American. That is a harm. It can’t be quantified in one event, but results from countless small interactions, increased risks, and heightened anxieties. Trump has sewn distrust and hate, and those have costs. Those costs don’t fall on slorch, though, so it’s cool.

  16. Straight out of the modern Republican voter playbook. As long as your life is not impacted in a negative way, everything is good. This mindset has overrun our country and is the biggest obstacle moving forward. Critical thinking goes out the door. Awareness fades. Got mine, fuck y'all. I don't know if it's a long term effect of capitalism, but whatever this country was intended to be is dying. Trumpism is the malignant tumor that might kill it.

  21. Meyer/Smith/snoopy camp is trying to twist the narrative that Smith never did anything wrong, the only abuse was her abusing him and being crazy, victim shaming. Urban didn't do anything wrong because smith never did anything wrong. He only laid hands on her as defensive moves to get away from her abuse. And it's an orchestrated takedown of a couple good men. This further discredits the "Smith is the victim because really he's not really a bad guy narrative. The more instances where smiths credibility comes into question, the less his story holds up. Building character questions about why UM kept such a shitbag on staff for so long which is the basis for why he should be fired.

  23. No, your question was incredibly stupid, as the dozen replies that immediately follow indicate. Sure, we may not know the exact pricetag down to the penny, but shit, people on this board were pointing out the insanity of Trump's $12mm estimate the day he made it. Because anyone who has even the SLIGHTEST grasp of logistics, and understands the equipment being moved, and the manpower to move it, man it, and return it, not to mention the local costs of staging such an event, knew that Trump's estimate was WAY off. The cost could be $75 million. It could be $110 million. It could be dead-on at $92 million. The point is that instead of costing $12mm, the true cost is "a metric shit ton of money." So, in summary, fuck off, troll.

  24. Excellent post. I wish I could name the person I heard say years ago that this country was changing because people were seeing themselves as taxpayers rather than citizens. It has become so clear to me what he/she meant. Citizens worry about the common good of helping fellow citizens. Citizens worry about what overspending by the government might mean for the common good. Taxpayers because of constant reminders, merely look at their personal balance sheet. Those who seek their votes do not even ask them to consider anything else. Appeal to greed, fear, and hate, and you can't go wrong if you're looking for votes in the greatest country the world has ever seen. Enlightened Self-interest.

  30. so now, let's pivot to this morning's cavalcade of crazy. wait, shit, that's not crazy. that's actually a fairly decent idea. i don't know how to react. i'm not saying we SHOULD do this, but it's not a half terrible idea. it's not a parade. it's not a war. shit. maybe this guy isn't so crazy. oh, fuck, he is crazy. let's all remember, this is the guy who uttered "what, you think we are so innocent" when it comes to foreign policy. anyways, i guess we are supposed to know hat cuomo said and the context. fuck, now i got to find that out. in a campaign speech, cuomo said america was never that great. well, i guess. that's not the best stepping off point, govnah, but you've done one thing: you've put yourself in the president's crosshairs. congrats? ten minutes after lambasting cuomo, the reality sets in for trump. fuck, man, this parade is probably not my best idea. it's expensive. it must be someone else's fault. it's definitely not my fault. nothing is my fault. it's the local politicians. they are the reason that moving military assets around and quartering them somewhere costs $92M. suppose we may need some security and crowd control. WHY CAN'T I JUST HAVE MY PARADE GODDAMN IT MOMMA, fine, i'll just take my ball and go home. but i'll go to the paris parade, which gave me this awesome idea in the first place, and remember how awesome that fucking DOPAMINE RUSH MUST BE WHEN THOSE TANKS THOSE MEN AND THOSE PLANE OH GOD IT MUST BE SO GREAT "when i get to office, i won't have time to watch tv, except every morning when i live tweet to the world what i'm watching." growth of what? what are you talking about, man? details? who needs fucking details. my johnson had double the growth rate in your mom last night. it's been 2.5 hours since i mentioned govnah cuomo's statement. i must reinforce this point! because i'm great and i'm making (check that, I'VE FUCKING MADE, THE JOB IS DONE MOTHERFUCKERS!) america great. "choked." at least he didn't choke like a dog. wait, what? when did cuomo say that we are not going to make america great again? oh, he didn't? fuck it, i'll make some shit up like i always do, these rubes will believe me. and i had no idea andrew cuomo was chris's brother. i kind of actually like chris's show. many are wanting. many. wanting. do something. guess it's time to get out of the PJs, put on the extra long tie, and go to work.

  31. lol. If Maryland Prez never goes on stage and announces the independent review team, Urbs would have been reinstated today. Now they have to make this look legit but Ohio has already shown their true colors. “What we’re doing is an investigation to try to find out exactly what happened, why, and what the context was. I’m going to wait until I know those things before I make conclusions. I’m doing my best possible job to keep an open mind. As I said, stay tuned.”

But let's go by some bitching jet fighters instead! So much for fiscal conservatism. Although I'm laughing at the thought of him believing he can buy multiple fighter planes for $90mm.
