  4. I think I might have a “best of” candidate. Wife was watching Obama’s speech at Illinois and kept repeating that she didn’t understand why Obama cared about the mid-terms. She said it several times. Finally I said that the elections were really important in November so he should care. As I stared at her, I could see her mind finally realize that he was talking about the midterm elections, and not the University of Illinois mid-term exams.

  5. I believe that this was an "accident" in that she didn't go home wanting to kill a dude. I do believe this is a direct product of the culture that police have cultivated. Police feel justified shooting and killing civilians at the slightest perceived threat to their own safety.

  6. The simple facts are she entered someone else's home and killed him without cause. All the rest is just minutiae.

  7. Here's the thing -- had she entered his apartment, in the dark, and he'd responded to the noise and shot the shadowy intruder dead.....he would be 100% in the right, legally. It would be a legally justified shooting, and he should face ZERO criminal consequences (see: castle doctrine). Yes, that would be a sad tragedy, and yes, I would be critical of anyone who shoots first and asks questions later. BUT, he would have a perfect legal defense -- unidentified intruder in the night, shadowy figure, shot dead to defend yourself and your home. If that is how it had gone down....anyone wanna bet that he would have received WORSE treatment than the cop here, who has NO legal justification for what she did? He'd have been arrested immediately (and I'm sure they would have found him to be "resisting," and had to subdue him with force). He'd have been interrogated at length (no chance to visit with his union rep to concoct a story). He'd be charged with murder, because he killed a cop. We all KNOW that's the disparate treatment he'd have gotten if the shooting was reversed. That's what pisses people off here -- and it damned well should.

  8. So you're going to take issue with every single post on this thread that makes assumptions about what really happened if it doesn't agree with the killer's statements but then go ahead and make your own assumptions? I mean I know that you like to play the role of OBJECTIVE MAN WHO IS ABOVE IT ALL but this thread has gone a bit too far.

  10. Agree to disagree. Any Joe or Jane public would have backed up into the well-lit hallway and called 911. If they had a concealed carry, maybe they pull it out, maybe they put a hand on it, but no-way-in-hell a normal person shoots this guy. It was BECAUSE she was a cop that she had the misguided belief that it was her duty and/or right to give commands to a stranger and then shoot him in short order when he didn't comply.

  14. He has never moved a cinder block in his entire life. He has never used a hammer to drive a nail. He has never cut the grass, cleaned a toilet, changed a diaper, even his own. He has never done a load of laundry, changed the oil in a car, or cooked his own food. He has probably never held the door for a lady or an old person. He is a worthless waste of O2. The world will be a better place when he dies.

  15. God forbid we expect success in what is arguably the top job in CFB. You need some new state-of-the-art facilities? Done, just ask (I'm looking at you, Charlie Strong). You need an army of top notch quality control analysts/assistants? Ask. It's done. You want a bigger coaching budget to assemble the very best recruiting/coaching assistants money can buy instead of hiring your fucking buddies? Done (if I was cross-eyed, I'd be glaring at Herman and Strong). You want a great school that can offer a grade A education in one of the coolest, most awesome towns in the entire fucking world? It's already fucking there. You want a state full of top talent that dreams of growing up playing for your school? Again, it's there already, aside from the occasional weirdo who wants to be aggy for some fucked up reason. Yes, there's high demands, but for good fucking reason. As long as you have a solid plan in place, there's ZERO excuse to not succeed here. And there's certainly no excuse to come a cunt hair away from losing to a Tulsa team that went 2-10 and 1-7 in the American West Conference last year. If we are the most hair trigger fan base in the I really don't give a fuck. We should be.

  22. She fucked up plain and simple IMO. The fact that she's a cop shouldn't really matter. I'm sorry she mistakenly drove to the wrong floor, I'm sorry she was carrying bags and didn't notice the red floor mat in front of his door, I'm sorry the door pushed open or was slightly ajar -- that's just really, really bad luck. But she FUCKED UP. This is the second shooting she's been involved with in less than five years with DPD and the proper way to handle the other night is back away into the hallway, draw her weapon or Taser if she felt imminent danger and called for backup. Then it's just a big kerfuffle and everybody laughs about it once the mistaken is realized. But she pulled the trigger twice and killed an innocent man. I think that pretty easily meets the definition of manslaughter. She needs to lose her job with DPD, she needs to probably go through the rest of her life with a felony conviction on her record and she probably owes the Jean family a nice chunk of change for the killing of their son.

  30. This whole "he didn't obey my commands" bullshit is galling. I mean the balls on these people to blame the victim for not obeying someone in the dark who told him to put his hands up. The bitch needs to plea bargain. You took a man's life because you fucked up and killed him. Your mistake, not his. He did nothing wrong. Your mistake cost him his life. So fuck off with this notion that he did anything wrong in his own fucking home.

  33. Shane Buechele as a true freshman threw 21 TDs and almost 3,000 yards. Best true freshman QB performance in school history. He was clearly hampered by injuries much of the year. We had a Doak Walker winner who was a backup the year before. Gilbert’s system exceeded my expectations in the first year. He knew what he was doing, had a philosophy but was limited by young players, low IQ players, injuries, and a mostly talentless offensive line. Since I’ve been watching UT football beginning w Mackovic, I’d rank him top 2 OCs 1) Harsin 2) Gilbert 3) Mackovic 4) Major 5) Davis 6) Beck/Watson Admittedly Mackovic and Davis have a larger sample size and showcased some awesome offenses. But, they both suffered major flaws. Davis, especially, was exposed when he didn’t enjoy overwhelming talent advantages. Advantages we have not seen since 2008. Advantages he didnt have before he got fired by Iowa. Advantages he owed Mack Brown and Tim Brewster. Mackovic’s offenses outsmarted themselves and made too many mistakes (the number of turnovers, penalties and negative plays were staggering). But he was an architect of pretty damn good offenses. Harsin and Gilbert made chicken salad out of chicken shit. I’m confident both would rock shit if they had Vince Young, Colt or Priest, Ricky or Shon Mitchell with guys like Dan Neil blocking for them. Harsin knows attacking football. Gilbert knows that system. Keep in mind, they’re king of the ants on offense since the Wishbone was adopted here. We owe most of our amazing offensive success to great recruiting, outathleting teams and once in a generation players.

  34. Depends on how we define "righted". Pundits tell us that fans can't get the pitchforks out after the second year because they should not expect to be competing for the playoffs already. No serious Texas fan is clearing their calendars the evening of Dec 29. When: you sign a contract for >$5M/yr for five years your performance is evaluated in a very public way on a regular basis you have significantly more resources and talent at your disposal than the majority of your competition you are the head football coach at the University of Texas you are knowingly accepting accountability to deliver results better and faster than is typical. Most fans were hesitantly accepting of last years performance considering the recent past performance and the coaching transition. Aside from the Maryland and Tech games, they won the games they should have and closely competed with ranked USC, OU, and OKST, beat ranked WVU on the road, and won their bowl game. Herman's staff has done well off the field in recruiting, facilities, conditioning, and social media, but those are the raw materials - not the final product you are judged on. What should fans expect from the second season of a coach who knowingly accepted accountability to deliver results better and faster than is typical? Demonstrated traction. The 2018 prediction thread earlier this year clustered around 9-3 or 8-4, which I think would indicate traction. Extrapolating, that means: only allowed one head scratcher game (he's used that up one game into the season) demonstrate consistent competence put away low and midlevel teams by the end of the 3rd quarter minimal player confusion minimal stupid / irresponsible penalties (already saw issues here at MD) nip the Tim Beck controversy in the bud through on the field execution or separation minimal off the field distractions / disciplinary / academic issues against USC, TCU, OU, WVU: you can get smoked once you are competitive in every other game you win one or two of those competitive games you lost last year An 8-4 regular season after several years of 6 and 7 wins and getting to play BU, KU, TT, ISU in conference is not asking for the moon from a coach that knowingly accepted accountability to deliver results better and faster than is typical. If you tell any coach worthy of coaching at this level that they can come to Texas with all of its resources, get paid >$5M/yr, can go 7-6 their first year, and that they will be expected to do a little better than 7-6 in year two, I doubt they would balk at that.
