  1. God, fuck Trump for that tweet this morning. My sister is two years younger than me. When she was a sophomore and I was a senior, she was date raped after a fraternity date party. She called me at 4:37 AM - I looked at my alarm clock before I answered the phone, the time is burned in my mind. My now husband, then boyfriend, and I went to her house. She lived with 6 of our sorority sisters. We took care of her. She didn’t want to go to the police. She didn’t want to tell our parents, especially our dad. That was 25 years ago. As far as I know, my parents still don’t know. They were and are loving parents. I’ve thought a lot about this since Dr. Ford came forward. What if the shitface who raped my sister was about to be appointed to the Supreme Court? What would she do? What would I do? I just don’t know. I haven’t really commented on all this till now because - as the tired Surly meme goes - this hits close to home for me. But that tweet by Trump is absolutely infuriating. Fuck you, you orange shitgibbon.

  4. https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/brett-kavanaugh-is-a-man-the-right-can-get-behind-1829225731 This is a pretty good article on why Republicans won't drop Kavanaugh even when there are 50 other judges they could nominate that would have the same end result. The most pertienent part: It’s a bit late for anyone not to have figured this out yet, but the skeleton key to understanding American conservatism is this: At bottom, it lacks absolutely any moral or ideological underpinning beyond the reactionary protection of moneyed white men—of their station, their wealth and power, and their egos. Its supposed ideas and abstractions are just a framework for spasmodic lashing-out against anything that can be interpreted as a threat to rich white dudes. It likes supply-side economics because the supply side is made of rich white dudes. It likes tax cuts because the taxes are mostly cut for rich white dudes. It likes cops and soldiers because cops and soldiers uphold a social order with rich white dudes at the top. It likes “traditional family values” because social, economic, and sexual dominion over women are the most traditional family values of all. It likes “Make America Great Again” because rich white dudes used to roll through society and over everyone else with even greater impunity than they do now. All of these things are just proxies for reiterating, over and over and over, forever, the power and security and primacy of rich white dudes.

  6. or "Hold my beer and watch this" I was 14 and my Dad bought an old '59 International truck to lease out as a local delivery to the company he worked for. One of his get rich quick schemes, but I digress. While making the deal he spotted an old Kawasaki 175 dirt bike and made the guy throw it in the deal. HOT DAMN! Dad didn't buy cool shit often, but this was excellent! It was old. The blue paint was chipped and scratched up. It was way past it's prime, dirty, dinged and rusty. But this was my first legitimate dirt bike that I had dreamed about forever. I had a little Honda Trail 70 that wouldn't die, but I looked like a monkey fucking a football riding it. Those days were over. I was on an adrenaline high and had to try it out right fucking now. We lived on a 600 acre farm so I had plenty of room to ride. I headed behind the barn and down a long terraced slope. Running WFO in 4th I was catching some pretty good air off the terraces, then I hit the last one about 60yds before a ditch and a 5 strand barbed wire fence. That last terrace was sloped significantly higher than the others and I when I landed the left side of the handlebar snapped off in my hand. HOLY SHIT! Not good, not good! Somehow I managed not to wipe out when I landed, but I'm hauling ass wobbling all over the place and there's a ditch/barbed wire rapidly approaching. I can't use the clutch because the sonofabith snapped off in my hand. If I open my hand to pull the handle I'll drop it and then I'm fucked royal. Ditch getting close, that wire looks pretty f'n tight and I'm NOT going to stop before I get there. I throttle back, brake hard and try to turn right still in 4th. It's not easy because I'm off balance leaning forward and only have my right hand semi-controlling the bike. My heart is pounding, things are starting to go slo-mo and I know that ain't good. BTW, did I mention I'm not wearing a helmet? Because I'm not wearing a helmet. The ditch is danger close. Fuck it. All or nothing. I'll take the ditch but screw that fence. I try to lay it over, slide in and hope the ditch is deep enough I stay in there. I'm leaning as hard as I can pushing hard on the bar, but the bike doesn't go down. Instead, the back tire digs in and I make a hard right flat track turn staying about 3 feet away from the ditch. When I finally stopped I was shaking and sweating. I should have been dead and sliced up into chunks. I took a good long piss and after I got my shit together managed to get the bike started then rode to the barn where I burned 5 or 6 welding rods putting the handlebars back together. Looked ugly, but it never broke again. Anyway, that was one of the times I almost died.

  14. I think Mojo has it right -- Garrett is probably in on this with Kavanaugh and Whelan. His name will be "cleared" once Kav is confirmed and they will hope this whole rape thing just fizzles out the way the Thomas scandal did. Is there no scandal that can't be what aboutted with you morons? Fine, throw Clinton up under the fucking jail. I don't give a shit. And it has absolutely no bearing on what's going on right now.

  17. I'm a Ford man. Dad was a Ford man. Grandpa was a Ford man. Luckily those other two are in the ground because they might flip their shit because I bought a Japanese car Monday. The Expedition is 15 years old now and the wife was convinced it would strand me on I10 on the way to IAH. The 4runner caught my eye recently and to replace the Expedition with the same features today is 65k+. Knew nothing of the Toyota and didn't really do any research therefore I know I overpaid and told the guy that, but I don't care because the car buying process is so miserable. 2.5 hours from the time I left the house in the hills to back in my garage. It felt like it sits as high as the expedition because it's built on a truck frame. Also not buying a pickup because every other redneck in this state has one.

  18. Last year's game in Fort Worth was a 10 point game late in the fourth quarter despite Shane playing QB and running for his life all night because of the shit show that was Terell Cuney and the Warehime boys. Our OL is better than last year. They had an experienced QB in Kenny Hill and their RB's were about the same as we will face tomorrow night. Their QB is not as experienced or accurate as Hill. This game is very winnable. They are not the '85 Bears, but if you think so, crown their ass. I will wait for the final whistle tomorrow.

  24. Where did ‘ol Brett get all that money? What happened between 2005 and Feb 2006? Maybe he placed a wager on a certain college football team in the Rose bowl? Maybe his bookies were going to break his legs and then it was 4th and 5 and then he was saved. Maybe this is all Mack Brown’s fault.

  25. No, he wouldn't be done. You would support him using the "but Franken!, but Clinton!" model even if there was a video of him raping her. Your favorite President has been caught paying off multiple women for inappropriate contact and got caught on tape saying he grabbed women in the pussy. This is behavior you condone. In fact, you support Kavanaugh largely because you long for an era when women had fewer rights and you want this behavior to be okay. This is why you actually dislike Franken. It isn't because Franken did inappropriate things. Its because he found fault in himself and stepped down. You want someone who both does and approves of doing inappropriate things. Again, Franken was jettisoned as quickly as possible even though he was otherwise a champion of women's rights in Congress. So its time for you to jettison Kavanaugh in favor of another judge with stone age social ideals who hasn't been accused of rape.

  28. I was the roadie for Extreme Heat back in 86.... The lead singer and I were traveling to SA for a gig at around 4:30 PM on a Friday down IH35 near mile marker 221. In a ford van carrying a lot of equipment. We are in the left lane and a girl comes up beside us in the right lane and all of a sudden she pulls over right into the right front fender of my van going around 70 miles per hour. Next thing I know we are now going side ways in the grass median at an angle where we are going to come out in the northbound lanes and hit the asphalt which would cause us to roll. Fortunately and luckily I turned the steering wheel at the exact moment we hit the asphalt to keep us from rolling and there was just enough of a gap in the traffic that i could get us all of the way across and into the grass on the other side where we continued to fishtail like crazy until i got it under control and was able to stop. I never touched the brake until we were on the other side. The girl's car spun out and remained in the median (she was lucky). Turns out she was around 15 years old and driving a stolen car. That night someone broke into my van during the gig and stole some of our personal stuff. The next day OU kicked our ass and Dykstra hit that home run to beat the Astros in the playoffs. A shitty weekend for sure but it could have been a lot worse. The end.

  32. You know, people of honor are ashamed of cheating to win. There have been games, including the very first one I attended at DKR, that we won on bad calls, and I never truly accepted them as wins. I am not an "Well, I'll take it," or "A win's a win" kind of guy when it comes to shady referees. I have a friend who is as big an LSU fan as there is on the planet -- a break the furniture type when they lose type of Tygah -- and he doesn't believe they were legit NCs that year they won it with two losses. He has honor. Those of you who want to ignore established precedent and procedure here so you can get this effete bully-ass twerp on the bench by hook or crook have absolutely no honor whatsoever. I hope, but sincerely doubt, you realize that, and if on the off chance that you do realize that you are bereft of even a shred of honor, that it keeps you awake at night, and gives you heartburn, constipation, and erectile dysfunction. Because cheating to win sucks. Every time you hear or read his name or see his face on TV, unless you are a total sociopath (a contingency I cannot rule out for some of you), there will be some tiny little voice of shame deep down inside, because even if Dr Ford never came on the scene, there are so many other questions about this sleaze, questions the GOP gave the Dems no chance to explore. And all of this because Sith Lord McConnell has no honor whatsoever. It's a concept he knows well, I believe, and choose to act in exactly the opposite fashion at every opportunity. We couldn't even begin to confirm Merrick Garland until after the election because the American people deserved to have their say, right? That presidential election was a referendum on the court, right? And millions more voted against that loathsome crapulent orangutang than voted for him, right? Tough shit. I'm gonna cram two hardcore conservatives down your throat because MAGA. Or something. And if any of you are still Trumpsters, once this judge is in, be it BK or some other toadie, Trump will cease to be of use to Mitch. Two judges in, tax cuts, check, sayonara, Donny Boy, thanks for tackling Brian Orakpo on that rush so Michael Crabtree could catch that pass. You are cheaters. Cheating is bad. You should feel horrible and I hope you do. I hope your wives look at you funny and your kids never call you.

  34. It shouldnt matter if he was high as a kite and cleaning his gun. She entered his house unlawfully and then killed him. If he had a gun, his biggest mistake was not shooting an intruder with it. If she gets off by claiming she thinks he had a gun, in his own home in Texas, then we need to just disband the DPD altogether and start over by hiring police that are considered citizens first.

  38. We have a 7-8 person nest of Browns fans at my local sports pub. Every weekend for years they show up, take the same tables, watch on an auxiliary screen (no sound) and have a great time. All this through the recent misery, on top of the historical futility. They take it all in stride and have endeared themselves to everyone else in the place and have earned the respect of all the other nitwits. Good folks, loyal fans. It will be fun to get feedback from them next time they show up for a Sunday game (they don’t make the night games). The whole place has been behind them to break the streak. Not how I thought Browns fans would be. Personally, I’m glad for them tonight.
