I honestly don't care that much. If we finish the season with a Big 12 championship and bowl win I'll feel like I've played the year with house money....12 points

Look- we have to stop being pussies about the way other schools recruit Texas targets. Yes, OU is going to throw everything they've got at McCoy -- bacon cobb salad, supreme dippers platter, 2-for-1 entrees with free appetizer and dessert. If Texas panics and tries to interfere with that kind of spread, we're fucked, and other recruits will sense the desperation. I think you need to take a deep breath, let the food poisoning runs its course, and in due time, McCoy will be ours.12 points

well, i suppose he would start with the low hanging fruit - people who are trying to change our way of life, invading our culture, and twisting that culture. i'd say he'd start with illegal immigrants, whether or not they are seeking asylum is not an issue. in fact, what we could do is create tent city camps, and separate the children from their parents and imprison them both in separate camps, without care as to keeping track of who went where. maybe that's where he would start. maybe then, he would start closely inspecting legal, naturalized citizens who are trying to change our way of life, invading our culture, and twisting that culture. maybe he would find excuses to deport them as well. maybe that's where he would start.11 points

There were plenty of pretty well off Jews in Germany who ended up losing everything. I can't really say it's surprising because history shows that there's a large segment of any society that will simply ignore the telltale signs of creeping authoritarianism and pretend that everything will be ok, but it's still very strange to actually observe it in real time. Even intelligent, educated people see the signs, understand what they're indicating, and still go "hmmmm well let's not overreact, this will just magically right itself." Maybe mass genocide isn't the ultimate destination on this road that we're on. Maybe it's just the transformation of the United States of America into an oppressive authoritarian kleptocracy like Russia or China or Saudi Arabia. Maybe these people ignoring the signs figure that they're part of the politically-dominant demographic and can adjust and learn to live alright in such a society. Hell, maybe most of them right about that. But those countries violently suppress dissent and violently oppress numerous minority groups, from women, to gay people, to ethnic minorities. And when shit goes bad, countries like that need an "other" to blame. Eventually, they just might get around to blaming some of the people who thought they were part of the dominant demographic because their bloodlines aren't sufficiently pure, or they're not the right religious denomination. We've seen this before. Numerous times, in nations all around the globe. Find me one time where a party with clear authoritarian tendencies obtained total control of government, began delegitimizing the press and the basic humanity of their political opposition, and, without being somehow removed from power, just chose to stop there. If things don't get significantly worse than they already are, it will be because enough people freaked out enough to vote them out next month and in 2020. If not, the odds are good that we'll never have another free election after that (at least not until a legitimate democracy has been restored following a civil war).11 points

Well, it just wasn't in the cards this year. A combination of great play by the BoSox, the injury bug, inopportune cold streaks and inability to put batters away with 2 outs resulted in an early exit for our Stros. Blue didn't help, but that's not an excuse. This will be an interesting offseason, to say the least. Decisions to be made on Keuchel, Marwin, McCann (I believe - don't think his option vested), Gattis, Morton, Sipp and Maldonado. I'd guess that of that group, Morton will be the only one back on a short-term deal (if he doesn't retire). Free agency outside of Harper and Machado looks choppy at best. Will Whitley, Tucker, Straw and others be ready to fill some big shoes? I can't wait for April. Personally, I felt a tiny bit of complacency as a fan all season. Back-to-back WS titles would have been incredible, but with baseball being baseball, the chances were slim, and who am I, as a Houston sports fan, to be greedy? Well, that feeling is gone as of 10:42pm last night. And I know that Bregman, Altuve, Springer, JV, Cole etc. feel that way. I hope Correa does too - will be a big offseason and season for him. Here's to starting a Giants-esque run of multiple titles.8 points

Based on what we know about Stoops, he probably ordered the most expensive thing on the menu and then made Leinart split the check.8 points

Y'all jest but Matt Leinart once told the story of his recruitment on Klatt s podcast. Apparently he always knew he was going to USC but stoops was recruiting him for so long he decides to visit Norman for an OV. They tour the facilities and stadium during the day and Stoops actually takes them to an Applebee's and talks it up as though it was the best place ever Matt excused himself goes out and calls his mom and was like wtf mom they took me to an Applebee's and we're trying to impress me. Klatt and Leinart were giggling like little girls as Leinart narrated this story.8 points

You left out the most important part - his team's head coach has a girl's name. If you're gonna have a girl's name like Dana you have to offset it with a super fucking manly middle name like Xenophon. Then you can just include your badass middle initial X when being addressed.7 points

Update: Rain continues into this weekend but starts to slowly taper off, the dry period peaking around F1 Sat. concert and race day (Sun.). Talk about a lucky break! Qualifying might be wet here/there but the concerts and especially race day will be great. But then, more rain moving in next week, yep again. We got a confluence of things to look at next week, beginning early Monday a.m. - The low causing ALL of this rain finally kicks NE into the Central Plains. But it drags a front behind it, which will push through but then stall around us. - Possible second Sergio type remnants of tropical storm off Mexico moves/funnels moisture NE into Texas. - Gulf moisture surges NW into TX. - All of these things converge around us and we could be fooked again. At this point NWS not calling for tons of rain... but... these patterns are often conducive to very heavy training rain. Over where? Not yet sure. Stay tuned. Here, I had the boys in the graphics room spin out this highly ornate, detailed map. Need a superior resolution screen to pick up all of the detail, but I'm confident Surly has spent the adequate funds.5 points

I'll offer you a few nuggets: 1. LJ did not name himself 2. There is a story behind his name if you had bothered to look into it before opining in ignorance 3. You will be hard-pressed to find any agreement on objective, universally accepted standards for names, but a few very well known ones include (1) names already in use and (2) modifications of names already in use (commonly involving some abbreviation). Do you think It was stupid to shorten Maryam (מִרְיָם) to Mary? Is it stupid to call someone Jack? Are apostrophes stupid, as in D'Artagnon? What about centuries-old compound names, often with spaces, such as Mary Ellen? Please pardon the Texas fans on this Texas-centric website should they respond unfavorably to your criticism of a Texas football player's name, a criticism that appears to be unsupported by understanding of his name in particular or of generally accepted practices in naming over the centuries.5 points

it was a fun season, with notable breakouts from cole, bregman, pressly, and some fun little streaks from white, gattis, and some pitchers. boston seems like they've had recent success, but that was 5 years ago, and that was a totally different team. these guys were hungry, they wanted it more, and they played like it. we, unfortunately, did not. the bats went cold, the injuries showed, and the breaks beat the boys any way you slice it. i don't know if they were much better than us, but they played much better than us, and that's what counts right now. time to take a baseball break for a while. nice to be able to care about the astros until october 18th. it used to not be like this. it's been a fun thread. we'll have to get the band back together in a few months. i won't be hard to find. see ya on the breadlines, fellas.5 points

Isn’t the caravan an annual thing where these people basically, arch across Central America, through Mexico, and to the Border, in order to draw attention to the human rights violations, etc? And when they get to the border, they go to a designated entry, request admission, get denied, and then go home? Also, if a bunch of people were trying to illegally enter a country, they sure as fuck wouldn’t do it byforming a huge caravan with alot of media coverage. If they did all attempt to enter at an entry point illegally, they would easily be stopped by some regular border patrol agents. These dipshits act like it’s some medieval battle strategy of just flooding the enemy with sheer numbers, overwhelming them. tl;dr - Our country has a bunch of morons in it, and unfortunately, they vote.5 points

Somewhat lost among the deserved hype of Caden Sterns is the play of BJ Foster, who is wreaking havoc near the line of scrimmage. Foster is a true freshman, but he is already the best natural blitzer on this defense. GIFs courtesy of Ian Boyd. Coming from the boundary side here, he crosses the face of the Baylor RT like it's child's play. His blitz here on the last drive of the Baylor game completely blew up the play. Even when he doesn't get home, the extra attention that blockers give him free up other players to win 1-on-1 matchups and disrupt the play. Omenihu easily beats his guy without any other obstacle because Foster is occupying the LG and RB here. Of course, his ability to shed or avoid blockers makes him valuable in playing the run as well... He's still learning the nuances of coverage and pattern-matching, but his football instincts allow him to make plays even now. This safety class is very, very special, and we haven't even seen what Overshown can do yet.4 points

Who would have seen a city full of Raiders fans failing to embrace their hated division rival? No waaaaaaaaaaay I hope they do go to San Antonio. I hope the owners vote for it just to spite that piece of shit Jerry Jones who threatened to sue them last year. I'd love to have another local team to cheer for that isn't owned by that giant piece of shit and isn't from the ghetto sewer known as Houston.4 points

I had a good friend move to Nebraska, and raved about how friendly everyone is. He got fed up with the city life and bought a nice little farm. The first day he was out there the old farmer from next door came over to say hi. He said the farmer was super friendly and nice. The farmer him "We're having a party over at our place tonight. It'll be a heck of good a time. There'll be a little drinkin'. A little fighitn'. And a little fornicatin'." My friend told him "well that sounds real nice mister, what time should I be there?" And the old farmer said "Any time you'd like, it'll just be the two of us." Just real good people. He said it was a fun party.4 points

You know what else is still chasing Kyler? 0-1 against Texas. That shit will haunt that ewok in his sleep. The chasm between Caden Sterns as a player and person and Bookie Radley-Hines are night and fucking day. You can jack off to ol’Bookie’s recruiting ratings and I’ll watch Sterns become an All-American. Tell you what though, Bookie’s an okie through and through, that much is for fucking certain.4 points

I think the only criticism I have of the RB rotation is I would like to see more Young than Watson. Watson does some of the same things that Ingram does. Young is a different mold and physical between the tackles. I would like to see Young get 5-10 carries a game. Even if he's not churning out yards he forces defenses to make business decisions. I think there's value in Young wearing down defenses even if we don't have a lot of success.4 points
