Okay, I took my timeout. And I apologize for the tone and messaging of my offending post. Maybe A Coordinator often is a wiser man than I, and his suggestion that I should have used the opening phrase of “imagine” before describing the scene that I did would have been the better route. And he’s right. And, I shouldn’t bite so hard on a troll’s trollgame. My bad. And apologies to the mods for making their Sunday a pain in the ass. I was a tad raw. Because, as noted by a few folks (appreciate the thinking, by the way), here’s how I’m processing last week: 1) Since the beginning, I’ve said that the most dangerous thing about Trump is his rhetoric of demonization of the other. By virtue of being a major party candidate, and now president of the US, he normalizes such rhetoric. Here, from today’s front-page story from the AP: 2) We've seen it coming. Many of us have pointed out the obvious: this WILL result in bloodshed. In one week, we have a man sending bombs to people associated with opposition to the regime, including the press, we have a man trying to attack a black church (then killing two black people at a secondary target), and then a man killing jews -- in a synagogue, during a holy rite -- for the bonus offense of being kind to brown refugees. This is EXACTLY what we've seen coming. And as noted above, there's more to come. 3) And the targets will be those who are demonized as "the other." Brown folks, who are rapists and murderers and MS-13, and jews, and black people, etc. etc. 4) I have the wrong last name in this country right now. My childhood best friend (still a dear friend) is Honduran. Some of our dearest friends are jewish. Most of the people I know and love are in the crosshairs right now. Will today be the day that someone decides to attack the Catholic Church in the Valley, where some of my family members attend, because that congregation provides humanitarian aid to refugees? Maybe today will be the day that someone decides to attack the JCC, and kill my friend the Hebrew teacher. Shit, maybe one of the less creative types will just shoot up the Fiesta Mart on I-35 when my kids and I are shopping. Trump, Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, etc. etc. are given pass after pass for pouring gas on the fire. They are following the fascism playbook perfectly, and as always, the "other" ends up being the villain in the story they weave. And who else is the villain? The press -- that is, the people who call them out on the simple truth of their tactics. Today, I mean, RIGHT NOW, mouthpieces of the admin are disclaiming all responsibility, and INSTEAD are blaming "late night comedians" and the media. And tens of millions of my fellow Americans agree with them. Because they aren't in the crosshairs. They don't have the wrong last name. They aren't jewish. So it's not their problem. I shouldn't have wished death on anyone -- indeed, that's kind of the freaking OPPOSITE of the point I've been trying to make for two years now; we are engaging in rhetoric of hatred and death, and that will yield exactly what it promises.. But I truly can't put into words how frustrated I am. How appalled I am that we had 11 bodies, bleeding out on a synagogue floor, family members holding them as they breathed their last.....and nothing will change. This administration will, as promised, NOT "tone it down," but rather, will "tone it up." That is a murderous promise. And millions of my fellow Americans grin when they hear it, and cheer. Oh, and the irony is not lost on me. I'm a nobody on a message board. When I say something inflammatory, many of the SAME FOLKS who support the President pouring gas on the fire, day after day, are APPALLED, and say that's unacceptable conduct. Yet the President -- literally the most influential man in the world -- incites violence and puts targets on people time, after time, after time.....and crickets. How about this -- how about we hold the President to the appropriate standard? Not "be disappointed," but rather say what you said about my post -- it's unacceptable. Period. Stop rewarding it. Please. Stop. I don't care if we disagree on policy -- for example, on immigration, there's a HUGE spectrum of policy ideas, which can and SHOULD be discussed. We can do so without painting brown people as murderous villains; we've done so in the past. The path we're on is a path of death. And as I've been shouting from the highest mountain for a couple of years now, that's not hyperbole: The body count is only going to go up. You're either part of the problem, or you're part of the solution -- there's no sitting on the sidelines on this one. And to the extent that I communicated in a way that made me part of the problem, that's on me. I'll try to do better. And that's my last post on this thread, and this particular topic. But I'll be around to post on the next one. Which we all know there will be.33 points

This is not a thread to shit on our team. It's to more clearly see what we are, or aren't doing from alignment responsibilities. Mostly its catharsis and understanding for me. I may not be correct in my musings, so any of you other football minds feel free to chime in. This below gif was last year. Poona Ford destroys the center giving Malik a clear path to the ball carrier. Holton Hill also comes up to attack the RB as well. Of course all 3 of those guys are in the NFL, which comparing this to the below gifs, makes a difference. Also note, this play is ran out of single back to the boundary. . From watching the 1st quarter again, it seems Orlando was very much in love with his 3-2-6 Lightning package that he used against OSU last year. He was very stubborn, staying with it even when OSU was gashing us for yards on the ground on the third OSU series. This was also a series that saw a lot of 2nd teamers. Catching us in 3-2-6, must of been what Gundy was banking on because based on alignment it meant we did not have an overhang defender to the weak side. Instead he was more aligned as a robber, behind the 2 LB's. Think of a triangle or pyramid, with 3 DL, 2 LBs and 1 DB. Now, this play can be defended out of 3-2-6, but you have to have the quality of players to make it work and perfect execution...we didn't which was another win for Gundy. Basically, we were beaten before they even ran the play and Gundy knew it, he ran it left, and very next play ran it right. The added wrinkles for 2018, was that Gundy ran this out of 2 backs towards the field side, which gave the ball carrier a lead blocker and much more space to operate. Gundy knew we didn't want our freshmen corners to keep getting beat deep, and he had a numbers advantage in the box and in space. On the stretch zone play that ran towards the side Graham was on, Graham as the 4i is responsible for taking on the double team from the LG and LT, and hopefully working to split the double team. This will allow us to have numbers at the point of attack cutting in towards the ball carrier. Instead, Graham goes inside of the G at the snap, and basically takes himself out of the play allowing the LT to get to the 2nd level immediately walling off the alley. Now if Graham was elite, its possible he makes the tackle in the backfield. However, he doesn't and he leaves his teammates in a bad situation. In fact the LT is able to block both Gary Johnson and Anthony Wheeler. Wilbon is working down the line and is not getting controlled by the Center (which changes on the very next play). If Wilbon is faster, he might make the tackle and cover up for Graham. He doesn't but it also really wasn't his responsibility. Wilbon has mostly won his assignment getting inside of the Center. But because the LT is free, it doesn't allow the LB's to do anything. Cook at the very least is able to force the run back inside. On the stretch zone play that ran towards the side Bimage was on, Bimage, as the 4i is again responsible for taking on the double team from the RG and RT. Wilbon at the N needs to work inside the Center into the A gap to create space for the LB's to cut through. Neither does their job at all. Instead Wilbon is taken for a ride allowing the center to work to Gary Johnson, and Bimage is pushed to the ground allowing the OSU RG to get hands on Wheeler. Boyce doesn't do much different than Cook did on the other side. The effectively keep the run inside, but Boyce doesn't really shed his blocker. Perhaps its asking too much of him to make that type of play. Sorry for the potato gifs...but maybe when I have more time I'll look at more plays from other games if anyone else cares. There is still more from this game I plan to post, including the final OSU TD, which was a complete breakdown.11 points

I wish we had not chosen to kick off in the first half against OSU this game. I know I and many other fans have called for tempo, but this was one game where we could have benefitted from making a conscious effort to chew up clock during the first quarter. Imagine if the Pokes only had two series to exploit Boyce and Cook instead of four.7 points

I told my friends at work today to get ready for some excuse destroying reality. We are no longer going to be able to excuse the behavior of voters in this election as 'being foolish', 'hoping Trump would change', "poor candidate in Hillary", etc. If we go deeper Red, or stay just as Red, then we are what we are, a shit country run by shit politicians supported by deplorable, shitty voters. And that in fact may happen. The Swams and Epis of the world may prevail, all while others buy donuts and shake their head muttering "tsk, tsk", while doing NOTHING. And if that is true, then at least we will know what America has become. Maybe what it never was. Maybe we are closer to the 1920s KKK marching in numbers down Pennsylvania Avenue than we are the Obama Inauguration crowds. But we will know, and there will not be any doubt about who we are a country. Not now, after last week and this week. If you vote GOP now, then you support Trump. And if you support Trump - now - then you own it. We own it. America owns it. We'll see.6 points

My sophomore year apartment mate woke me up one night at about 3:00 am. He was drunk as shit and wanted me to go outside and see his new truck. I went just to shut him up, and parked outside was a Reddy Ice truck that he had found with the keys left in it. He couldn’t remember where he found it so we just drove it down the street and left it with the keys in it.6 points

Look, I'm not at all pleased that we lost to OkSt on Saturday. But the truth is, it really doesn't fucking matter. We weren't going to the playoff this year anyway. We are not an elite team (not this year). But our guys do play really fucking hard and we punish opponents for making mistakes. OkSt just didn't really make any. We have a true and consistent gamer at quarterback for the first time since Colt McCoy. We also have a head coach who finally gives a shit—that is something else we haven’t had in about a decade. Yes, we sucked shit through a straw on Saturday… mostly on defense, where we looked outright lost for most of the night. But on offense too, although there were a few flashes of brilliance (e.g., Ehlinger’s dime to Beck), LJH and even CJ had some massive drops that are extremely atypical for their usual level of play. Our run blocking was also bad for most of the game. To say it was an off night for us is an understatement. And then there was the officiating, which to be certain did not help things, but the effort we showed through 3 quarters was more than enough to lose the game on our own. Nevertheless, Sam fucking Ehlinger led us to get within 3 at the end of the game—despite everything, we STILL had a chance to win the fucking thing. That effort was sadly undone by a subsequent shitty special teams play, a phantom holding penalty that negated what could have been our game winning drive, and a shitty defensive stand in the final minutes. So we lost. We went 0-1 this week. But, and let me be clear about this: It. Does. Not. Fucking. Matter. All that matters is how our team responds. They know this, and they are going to fucking respond. They have done it all season. We still control our own destiny to arrive in the Big 12 championship game on December 1st. I feel supremely confident in saying that we will not have a game as shitty as Saturday's for the rest of the season. Whatever pressure we had on ourselves from before that game with trying to make our way into the CFP is now dissipated. The orange voodoo from a Halloween night game in Stillwater is now gone. I believe our team will play looser and more determined to win the rest of this season. We are going to get there, and it will start this Saturday against WVU. Here are my fearless predictions for the rest of the season: Texas wins its next 4 games (WVU, @TTU, ISU, @KU) and will play OU for the conference title on December 1st. WVU- Yes, their offense is legit and Grier is good. Grier also trusts his receivers implicitly and throws balls up to them all the time, which has made WVU very turnover prone this season. We will pick him off a couple times on Saturday and will do enough to win. @TTU- This game was scarier before our loss to OkSt. Now I’m sure that we will win it. Tech has OU in the prime time slot this weekend, and they will leave it all on the field. That game will be their chance to blow their load for the season, and they will. Their game against OU will go one of two ways: either Tech will play its game but lose in such a manner that they will be deflated going into the following week (against us) or Tech will beat OU outright in a shootout. Regardless of that outcome, Tech will play us the following week feeling that they can handle us without issue (as Tech demolished OkSt in Stillwater earlier this season). Our team, however, will not be fucking around, and we will take them. ISU- Out of all our remaining games, I am most glad we are playing this one at home. ISU is every bit as good this year as they were last year. This will be a hard fought slugfest, but we will pull away in the end on senior night. @KU- If we don’t win this game, then fuck us and fuck everything I just said, because we won’t deserve shit. That said, we’ll win this game. We will arrive for our rematch with OU in the Big 12 CCG at 10-2. I have no idea how that game will go. But however it goes, I know we will have opportunities in the game to beat them and win the conference. Herman and our team are deadliest when playing the underdog role. In conclusion, fuck OU and Hook ‘em Horns.5 points

Yeah, some people really need to work on their reading comprehension. There are very few 5 star rated lineman every year, so they won’t make up as many of the top draft picks despite being individually more likely to get picked in the first round than a 3 star. There is a large pool of 2/3 stars, so even if only a small percentage of them are successful, they’ll make up a large portion of the draft. This gets rehashed pretty regularly here and I’m sure there are plenty of people that aren’t familiar with the concept, but ignorance is only a valid excuse until you get presented with evidence and refuse to accept it. Don’t endlessly double down and clog up discussion.5 points

Herman has done a pretty good job with the psychology of this fragile head case team this year. Or at least I think he has. I expect them to bounce back next week. They are still headcases who find ways to lose but they have shown at least a little resilience after the Maryland debacle and getting demolished against Okie State in the first half. So I guess credit to Herman for adjusting his coaching to match his team's weaknesses. Now it would be nicer if we didn't have games like Maryland and Oklahoma State. We will see if he can achieve that in the future.5 points

I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan. My grandpa was the original radio engineer for Vin Scully & Jerry Doggett when the Dodgers moved to LA. My mother went out on a date with Sandy Koufax. I moved to Texas in 1979 and became a huge Ranger fan, and have followed both teams fanatically ever since. That means my teams have lost 4 of the last 9 World Series. Fuck me.5 points

There haven't been many Texas players that have spent as much time in the backfield as Hager (including offensive players.lol) It's almost as if he materializes out of knowwhere. Many of times he's gotten the deer in the headlights look from both the QB and RB as an unexpected third wheel in on the ball exchange. Two options to choose from. QB or RB with a 50% chance of getting it right. This is a choice he gets wrong 100% of the time. It's even worse when it's only him and a running back 5 yards behind the line. You can see the holy shit batman, I'm so fucked... Look of panic in the runners eyes, but before he can even begin to weigh his options netween trying hold on to the ball as the lights go out or ever walking again, hager runs right past them like a crazed lunatic. That's when you see his light go on (recognized by two beams of light coming from his earholes like a lighthouse on a black night... You can clearly see his thougjts as he runs past only other person back there with him... I wonder if that who I was supposed tackle... 9 out of 10, he is always having to reach back or to circle back because he either stormed past or wiffed on the tackle due to running himself out of position so he has to adjust at full speed and dive sideways. Very seldom does he get juked. RBs susually don't have the time even if they wanted to. But it doesn't matter because he's already shot past the play either way. If he had the ability to track the ball from the snap, Texas would probably have the number one run defense with -1,000 yatds given up, 8 dead running backs, 7 dead qbs and 1 dead midget ewok wanna be.5 points

Pilot 'Sully' Sullenberger: 'This is not the America I know and love' Retired airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed the famous "miracle on the Hudson," said Monday that “this is not the America I know and love” in a message encouraging voter participation ahead of the midterm elections. Sullenberger wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post that he “witnessed the best in people” on Jan. 15, 2009, when he led 154 people to safety by making an emergency landing on the Hudson River after a malfunction. "To navigate complex challenges, all leaders must take responsibility and have a moral compass grounded in competence, integrity and concern for the greater good," he wrote. Tragically, people in positions in power today are not projecting their best, Sullenberger wrote. “Many are cowardly, complicit enablers, acting against the interests of the United States, our allies and democracy; encouraging extremists at home and emboldening our adversaries abroad; and threatening the livability of our planet.” “Many do not respect the offices they hold; they lack — or disregard — a basic knowledge of history, science and leadership; and they act impulsively, worsening a toxic political environment,” he continued. https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/413756-pilot-sully-sullenberger-this-is-not-the-america-i-know-and4 points
