Immediate Situation: Welcome them with open arms. Invite them to participate productively in our society and economy. Register them to quickly become participatory, tax-paying citizens. Educate them and help feed their children. Be grateful to have new people who dream this big, risk this much, and work this hard to seek a better life. Larger Situation: Stop using our intelligence services to instigate coups against democratically elected governments.

The Statue of Liberty is pretty clear on this: "Bring me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning... Especially the ones from Slovenia with big fake tits... But not the brown ones... Send them back to the hell holes we created for them before they rape someone and end up on our Supreme Court."

Voted today and proud to say I voted for Beto!

It's my fault. She's been like that ever since I took her home after last call at the Chicken. I can usually still get it up after I puke on a woman, but something just wasn't right with the chemistry that night.

Pulling that Beto sign up and throwing it into the street is probably the most exercise that fat bitch has had in years.

Finally voted for Beto tonight. Hitting that submit button never felt so good.

TTom, go ahead and block out the last full weekend in September next year. You gotta come to our little conference in Brownwood. Welp boys, this is it. Getting married this weekend to the girl I started dating 7 years ago who has never seen me drunk. This week is surreal, I'm taking it moment by moment, really trying to savor the anticipation. And the chaos that occurs when people from all around the country fly in for this kind of event. We're going to have about ~100-ish guests, about 35% are sober, 50% are average temperate drinkers, and 15% are probably going to get obliterated but they are familys o I had to invite them. Was walking through my house yesterday and glanced through the door to my home office and started laughing - 7 cases of wine and beer sitting there and my first thought was "I hope the caterer took me seriously when I told her we needed a lot of coffee. . ." Wow what a different way to live, dammit I'm just so blessed I can't stand it.

True. But more than that, it's not even an honest response. The argument of "I have no problem with legal immigration, I have a problem with illegal immigration" gets pooped out onto Twitter by Trump, gets eaten up by his target audience, and then they regurgitate it verbatim. I wish someone with an (R) next to his name would just be honest. Trump has brilliantly (and despicably) tapped into something that will get his base to the polls like nothing else will. Fear. This isn't about legal vs. illegal immigration. This is about brown people INVADING our country. This is about black people hating the flag and freedom. This is about white America losing its grip of complete and total control. Sending our armed military to aggressively confront a group of people willingly surrendering and seeking refuge, something that has been taking place for 20 years? This doesn't pass the smell test, yet here we are. And millions of people believe it because they've allowed themselves to be guided by fear and fear alone. I've never voted for a Democrat in my life that I can recall. Watching everyone up and down the GOP put party affiliation over basic human decency has me completely out on them. Maybe forever. Who knows.
  14. “They didn’t blame that black guy when that white supremacist shot up a black church and killed black people!!!” No shit, you malignant cock holster.
  15. The President is a piece of shit.
  16. It's not a cross-out of the Bible, it's a cross-out of these vulgar hypocrites that call themselves "the religious right" who on one side of their neck preach about Jesus and then, on the other side of their neck, espouse political beliefs that have absolutely nothing to do with anything that's written in the Bible. Too often, those people read into the Bible things that it does not say, then they don't read what it does say. In other words, they read between the lines without reading the lines. And again, that's not what's being said. It's exploiting yet another stereotype: the idiot southerner who proudly brandishes the Confederate Flag and cannot for the life of him/her see the irony of pairing that with the MAGA hat.

  21. Bam! Looks like there's a spinout on the rockin road to Flavortown!!
  22. 5 blocks south of where I work are about 20 apartment complexes occupied pretty much exclusively by immigrants (legal and illegal). You could probably round up a caravan size number of Hondurans right now...if they weren't all out busing tables, cooking food, cleaning white people's toilets, and building roads and shit.
  23. this is how i picture Incredulity
  24. Again I’m making the greatest hits list of posters supposedly ruining this once fine establishment. I should be charging rent for the space I take in some of your snowflakey heads. I’m less strident than a lot of my fellow leftists on this board but I always seem to get singled out. Wonder why that is? It’s almost like some of you get real bothered by a woman with strong opinions invading your little clubhouse. Man up, pussies. And I’m honored to be grouped in with Brisket. Some of y’all think he went too far - I don’t - but despite his fatalism, he’s smart and funny and he cares. Give me 1,000 Briskets over the dullards screeching about librul tears and peeing their pants in fear over brown people.

  32. This is some 2 + 2 = 5 shit right here. You have to suspend everything you know about the dozens and dozens of Republican attempts to repeal the ACA with zero replacement and just purge it from your mind. Then, with the credulity of a cult member and memory span of a goldfish, you have to assume Trump must be telling the truth or has some kind of factual basis for this statement. Shows you how the GOP has fucking nothing to run on. They are trying to claim Obama's popular policy position as theirs. Per Trump, they are running on: - Obamacare's pre-existing conditions clause - made up diseases, MS13 gang members, and middle eastern terrorists lurking among several thousand refugees who want to peacefully apply for asylum - a made up 10% middle class tax cut (Wait, I though the last tax cut was a "middle class" tax cut? That's what Paul Ryan told me) - quasi-overt racism (DeSantis, Steve King) Things they are not running on: - The real tax cut they passed - The Muslim ban - Repealing Obamacare - Environmental protections

we have 700,000+ resident aliens waiting for citizenship and somewhere around 4 million waiting for resident alien / citizenship status currently on the list. you'd have the caravaners jump ahead of them?
  34. I think a large part of what y'all are banging on about the last couple of pages boils down to a question of persuasion. There are a large number of thoughtful, intelligent posters here, originating from both sides of the aisle, who are completely appalled - in my view rightfully - by the Trump faction. There are a few obvious Trump supporters, and a few other posters who claim to be above it all and that they don't support either side, but always seem to argue either in favor of the Trumpist position or against the anti-Trumpist position. Those in the latter two categories are, apparently, immune to persuasion - any combination of facts, logic, appeals to humanity, aversion to being lied to continuously, or simple common sense rolls right off, and the retort is a Trumpish collection of fact-free mocking and name-calling. This understandably leads to some frustration, and that came out in the Brisket post under discussion. How do you get through to people when facts, logic, appeals to humanity, and common sense don't work? You might be tempted to resort to a mirror of the arguments that apparently sway these people: shocking personal attacks that target the emotional lizard brain. Make them think about how they would feel if the policies they advocate were directed against them; they don't get it any other way, so paint a picture of them or their loved ones bleeding out from a madman's fusillade of bullets. Maybe Brisket's post connected on this level; it certainly seems to have struck a nerve. It's a shame that that's the only way to construct an effective argument these days, but I guess some of us follow the thought leaders of our tribe, and the top-down rhetoric of the Trump side has become disturbingly pervasive. tl/dr: maybe fire is the only way to fight fire.

Either make Honduras a whole lot better, or the US a whole lot worse.
  37. They pay on time in cash or money order. Instead of ripping out the copper wiring they plant gardens and peach trees. Instead of cooking meth they cook tamales and give you 2 dozen for Christmas. They also fix shit by themselves instead of calling for repair which is cool with us.
