That's not unhinged. That's fucking true. If the Republicans lose that seat, then the Democrats have a toe-hold from which they can build an organization that will actually be competitive in statewide races. They have the voters; they just need the organization. And having a senator around which they can build will give them that organization. And if Texas becomes a swing state, then it becomes really impossible for Republicans ever to win the presidency again. So yeah--the party of racist dog-whistles and voter suppression will lose the ability ever to lead the country ever again. That's what's at stake. We can cut off the head of this fucking zombie party right here in Texas in less than 48 fucking hours. Let's do it!26 points

actually had no idea i took this one, as i accidentally took it while trying to switch to video mode. thought it was pretty cool for a completely accidental picture: I still had a great time even though we lost. This team is ahead of schedule, and i spent a beautiful day at DKR watching Horns. Still a damn good day. [emoji1598] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk24 points

I like a cajun brown jambalaya, as opposed to creole style with tomatoes. Unfortunately I did not get a pic of everything before starting, but the first step is to make a really flavorful stock. This is the carcass of a roasted chicken, the shells from a pound of shrimp, and trimmings from the onion, celery and green onions. After a couple hours of simmering I had 8 cups of stock, and after straining I put it back on the stove to reduce that down to 4: Once your stock is ready, brown up some andouille in a heavy bottomed pot: : Remove the sausage, then sauté the trinity and a jalapeño in the rendered fat: I cook the hell out of my vegetables, probably 30 minutes on medium heat, then stir in a tablespoon of cajun seasoning and some minced garlic for a couple more minutes: Add the stock, sausage, picked chicken, green onions, and a few bay leaves. Bring it all to a rolling boil and add 2 cups of rice: Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, turn it over (but don't stir), then cover with a lid and simmer for 15 more minutes. It should look like the pic below, after which I tossed in the shrimp, turned it over again, put the cover back on, turned off the heat, and let it steam for 15 minutes while the shrimp cook: Once the shrimp are pink it's ready to go. Serve with more green onions and hot sauce:11 points

Jeez. Why is it always all or nothing? Last year it was: defense trending up, we'll lose Orlando to an HC job!; offense not trending at all, fire Herman, Beck and offensive staff! This year: holy shit, the offense is getting pretty damn good, still hate the OC but let's not hang him; defense is getting gashed, Orlando is an amateur out of his league! The offense was a disaster last year. The defense is suddenly getting gashed this year. There are particular reasons in each case. Are they being addressed is the question. What happened to the talent level on our team? Offense older, defense younger. What happened to strategy and tactics? Offense more balanced, more talented, more options. Defense finds that last year's scheme genius isn't so good with this team, slow to adjust, lacking essential front elements and depth to correct. I've watched Herman change himself as a coach. I've watched the team be competitive in every game. "That's not enough for Texas!" It is for now for a Texas that hasn't been so for quite awhile. I see solid recruiting. We'll see what happens to coaches on staff at the end of the year. Will we be in the CFP next year or within five years? We're on a better track for that since 2009. If a few years pass and we need a bump to the next level, make a move at HC. Until then, keep your fucking shirts on. Almost everyone on this thread probably knows the details of football better than I do. In some ways, that's making you miserable. Then some of you insist on invasive sharing of your misery. In many ways this is a great year of college football. Only a few dominant teams with everyone else capable and vulnerable. It makes for excitement, hope, disappointment for everyone. Fun and drama. Sports. I was sick after losing yesterday especially after that fuck did the horns down after the catastrophic failure of our defense and defensive staff to suspect that WV might choose the same play to beat us that OSU used. I hated parity. But parity was pretty cool when we beat USC, OU, TCU, and K-State. It's a rare year. We'll be better next year whether you hate hearing that or not. Best wishes my friends. The biggest issue by far has been Wheeler’s complete inability to play MLB in the 3-2-6 or 3-3-5. He’s been abysmal in every facet of the position.8 points

We nearly lost Zeus yesterday, and there's a good chance the reason he's alive is our vet staff. He's 9 and a half now, which is old for a huge dog, and his health has been deteriorating. But I came home yesterday, and the look on his face told me he was clearly in distress. I called the vet and they told me to bring him in. The vet looked him over and said that she wanted to do bloodwork and take an xray, which would take a couple of hours to finish. So I left him, with the plan for my wife to stop by at 5:15 on her way home. Vet told the wife that he had a blockage and needed surgery. She said that we could either have surgery at the emergency clinic in NB tomorrow, or they could do surgery then and there. Wife said, "It's after 5pm on a Friday; I'm not going to ask you to stay and do surgery." The vet said, "That's not a problem." The tech helping her said, "I love Zeus. I'll stay here as long as he needs help." So some time after 5:30pm on a Friday, they prepped for surgery. At about 8pm, they called us and said they were done and it was successful. We got to go see him this morning and got him out for a little while, but he'll be spending the weekend there. But he's alive.8 points

I wore a Beto shirt to a Lyle Lovett/Robert Earl Keen concert here in Northern VA a couple weeks ago. Had about 10 people come up to me and say nice shirt and that they hope he wins. Robert Earl Keen did a double take and gave me a thumbs up .7 points

Seeing him in person today was awesome. I just want more people like him in public office. Actual genuine human beings. There are so many empty suits. It's so nice seeing a human being who isn't a complete piece of shit.6 points

Just got back from a visit to Trump country -- small town, rural W. Texas. Attended an event in a VERY small town. Overheard some conversation among locals, including a local law officer. They were talking excitedly about how they could/would use their various weapons (it's deer season -- all of us in the area were well-armed) to repel the "horde" the caravan is bringing. Casual, happy conversation about how they'd blow away those folks. Like you and I would talk about how we'd demolish a plate of good BBQ. In case you wondered, there are millions of your fellow Americans who are GIDDY at the prospect of being able to blow away some brown people. My son wisely kept his mouth shut till we got back in the truck, then said "what the HELL?" And he also noted the distinct absence of ANYONE who wasn't lily-white from that scene. So, a reminder. Trump doesn't get support because people look PAST his racist dog whistles. He gets support because those dog whistles sound like sweet music to them.6 points

Totally agree. Stupid voodoo superstitious practice that allows kickers to re-adjust their aim and touch. Interesting bit from ESPN: FG Pct by Distance, Since 2001 10 Seconds or Less in 4th Qtr With 10 seconds or less remaining in the 4th quarter, kickers who are not iced have made 70.2 percent of field goals since 2001. When a timeout is called immediately before the try, they made 83.0 percent of attempts. That increase of 12.8 percentage points means recent attempts to ice a kicker at the end of a game actually increased the kicker’s chances of success by 18.2 percent. Breaking those numbers down by distance shows that icing is particularly ineffective on long field goals. Field goals are made a higher rate following a timeout at all increments, but kickers more than double their accuracy on tries of 50 or more yards, hitting 77.8 percent after a timeout, compared to 37.5 percent otherwise. Something coaches should think about as they sidle up to the official, hands poised to call timeout in an end-game situation.5 points

aggy is a culture that views itself through stories. The UT culture is one much more rooted in verifiable fact, which makes sense for a culture whose commonality is the pursuit of knowledge. One reason we mock aggy is their stories are often horribly misleading. aggys bristle at our mockery because the stories of their past are the lens through which they view who they are as individuals and as a culture. In the minds of aggys, their fake championships are testament to their past, and future greatness. And that seems odd to those of us who know the stories the aggys tell are mostly fabrications intended to bolster aggy self-esteem. The ags will never confront they are not who they believe they are. They are not intellectually capable of that level of cognitive growth. Their stories will continue to get more fanciful and more plentiful each and every year. It is who they are. It is who they will always be. The Jimbo Fisher era will pass with no championships, few moments of greatness, and with Jimbo Fisher laughing hysterically all the way to the bank. But yet to be written fish camp tales will convince future aggys they were one field goal away from a national championship during at least one season of the Jimbo era, that a grand conspiracy of jealous outsiders is what held them back,. and that their past greatness is about to replicated once the right savior and hero walks on to campus. Because in aggy culture, stories like that are what they live for. It is how the aggy mind works. And it is why others who live in a world of knowledge and education will look at aggy and realize they are fucking bizarre people.5 points

My wife always adopts dogs that need a home. She believes we should rescue rather than buy pure beds. However , we were given an Australian Shepard several years ago by a friend who moved out of the country. Katie got along well with our other pets and was the smartest dog we have ever had. She died unexpectedly a year ago and my wife was distraught. She said she didn't want to replace her and I let it go. Last night I was at Petsmart and this couple had an Aussie pup. She told me they were selling it to someone they were meeting there. I asked if they had anymore pups and she said yes. I told her my story and she said if I would drive out ro her place and see if I liked her other pup, she would sell it to me for $200. I went and checked out the pup and she was great. I bought her and gave it to my wife earlier today. She loves this puppy and cried and I gave her a great anniversary. Took away the pain of the game today (somewhat). This is our new dog Sadie5 points

There is no one simple answer, but to me the most glaring problem is our miserable LB play. I re-watched several key plays and in each the LB's were totally out of place/shooting the wrong gap/ineffective. Most of the posters in this thread have ragged on either the 3-DL scheme or the quality of the DL personnel (or both), but to me the fault lies almost 100% with the LB's.4 points

Today I went to a buddy’s house to smoke food and drink my ass off. I get there and I notice he keeps his dog GIdget crated non stop. I call him out on it and he claims he doesn’t have time. I say you have time now as we aren’t doing shit and he just kind of laughs. I tell him to un crate the dog so he does for about 2 hours and the dog is well behaved. It is just hanging out around the smoker like we are not bothering shit. My wife shows up with our 2 miniature dachshunds that are a little over a year old and she hears the whining from the garage for 2 hours. She drives me home because I am plastered. As soon as I get in the car I go off about this poor dog and how fucking mad I am. My voice even cracks because she is such a good dog. The wife asks if we can adopt her. Tomorrow at 8 am I am going to get Gidget and bringing her to her good home. I don’t want her but goddamnit I can’t sleep another night seeing this dog neglected. My “ friend” is thrilled I am getting his dog. I am really having a hard time remembering he is a friend. Gidget photos will be uploaded in about 10 hours. It will be a shit show around here and I hope my two other pups adapt and understand. Gidget is a year old.4 points
