flagged as spammer is gone. Did some IP research, definitely shared IP with "Gay" so I'm assuming he's also created many other usernames - he was using AWS as a VPN he set up himself it seems. Your antics are noted and I won't wait for crowdsource on your shit anymore so it's gonna get a lot less fun for you to troll here. Please take this new found free time to do something productive in society.24 points

Cool to have both the Musberger and Texas calls. Unfortunately the Dave South call is probably lost to the annals of history. I imagine it went something like this: “Dave S: Hands the ball to the guy, come on, that’s holding, (30 seconds of dead air). Dave E: Darn, I don’t think he got across the goal line. Dave S: Well, they call it a TD Cut to commercial “Hi, I’m Bubba S. Johnson, class of 86, and proprietor of Johnson Family Farm Supply. Are you tired of getting subpar alfalfa? ...”16 points

This is revisionist history. People wax poetic about days gone by in every society and, unfortunately, part of what we have to be tortured with in this country is the hyperbolic nature in which sports fans and sports media take nostalgia to a higher fucking level. Most years, the Texas vs ATM game was not highly rated. It got kicked severely in the nuts by the addition of the NFL Thursday night game. It was beaten up by ATM not being able to be on fucking television because of cheating at different times in the 80's and 90's. Mostly, the game was not competitive. What you wound up with was a bunch of aggie shittalking leading into the game, then Texas buttfucking the Aggies in public with tv ratings doing nothing special, and then aggie neighbors, coworkers, and online trolls running off and fucking hiding until they got amnesia about 270 days later. Then rinse and repeat. After two or three years of this game returning, it would be relegated right back to "sure, it's a 'rivalry' game, but 10-1 Texas should and will roll the scrappy 6-5 ATM squad" and then Texas will win by double digits, and the nation will yawn and pass out with Thanksgiving gravy stains on their shirts.11 points

Trump: I'm going to apply tariffs. American Corporations: Don't. That will hurt business and will likely lead to downsizing and the loss of jobs. Trump: Tariffs applied mothafuckas! American Corporations: This has hurt our business and we are downsizing and many people will lose their jobs. Trump: I will punish you for this. American Corporations: You already punished us with these policies. Trump: There will be more punishing LOL.11 points

It really isn't that hard in a political environment that isn't completely dysfunctional. In immediate term, mobilize resources to the border to efficiently process asylum applications at ports of entry. Don't separate families applying for asylum at ports of entry. Illegal entry at non POE results in immediate administrative deportation ({but still avoid locking children in cages during the process). Legit asylum cases get asylum treatment, non legit cases get deported back to country of origin. In medium term, congress gets thumb out of their ass. Address dreamers legislatively, invest in border security, address a worker entry program legislatively. In long term, stop fucking destabilizing central american countries.10 points

Any Legislator that spends even 1 second contemplating or drafting, or presenting a bill related to a fucking football game, while on State time, should be immediately removed from office for wasting Texas tax dollars and every other Legislator's time. Fuck that guy.10 points

Say what you will, but the game crossed a line in 1999. It went from rivalry fun to something else. A bunch of aggy students died because of neglect and incompetence and we were put in a no-win situation. Our administration tried to show that we were human and did everything we could to show how much we cared. In doing so, our team was neutered. We couldn’t say “yeah, let’s give blood and take care of our Texas brothers, but fuck ‘em up on Friday!” Mack essentially forfeited that game early in the week. How were we rewarded? With nasty signs along the road leading into CS. With phone calls to our players’ rooms all night long despite the request that no calls be put through. With a hotel staff that refused to show up to cook our team’s contractual breakfast. With rude yelling during our band’s moment of silence for the students who were negligently killed. Our humanity was rewarded with a finger in the eye. They showed themselves to be the classless trash they are. Things only devolved from there to the backstabbing and lies that culminated in them attempting to destroy our conference as they ran away from it...making sure that they bailed in a year which would leave them with the last home game in the series. I could say a lot more, but in short: fuck aggy!9 points

As the Horns prepare to play for the Conference Championship, let's all raise a glass to our local fishwrap columnist Kurt Bohls who, in his preseason predictions, had Texas in the bottom half of the Big XII. Nice call, Nostradumbass.9 points

Not so fast there. Against P5 competition, aggy was 5-4 while Iowa state was 7-4. Three of aggy's wins came against non P5 cupcakes, so no, aggy has not nearly elevated themselves to the level of Iowa State.9 points

A nice little cross section of all the bitch-ass teams which have run away over the years, and where they finished in their respective conferences this year: Arkansas: 14th out of 14 Aggy: 6th out of 14 Mizzou: 8th out of 14 Colorado: 11th out of 12 Nebraska: 8th out of 14 Hope you guys are having fun!8 points

Trump wanted to apply tariffs because it's the one thing he found out he can do on his own without needing pesky approval from any other branch of government. He applied tariffs only because it gives the impression that he's "doing something" and it also provides him a "me, wrapped in a flag, versus them" appearance. That was it. He wanted another adversary solely for the sake of appearances. Multiple companies who have actual experience in real business and global sourcing and purchasing told him repetitively that tariffs do nothing to improve domestic production but actually accelerates outsourcing and raises prices not only for global businesses but consumers as well. The exact thing they told him would happen is now happening. I've got this sneaking suspicion that he's not that bright and has no idea what he's doing. I mean, is it possible that this guy might be as equally stubborn as he is ignorant? Forgive me for being blunt, but there seems to be a really good chance that Donald Trump is just ... dumb.7 points

Hmmmm.....why are people concerned about a political movement that broadly dehumanizes and demonizes the other? Because these: Often start from these: The time to put out the fire is in the second picture. Arguing that "the first picture hasn't happened, why are you concerned about the lit matches being tossed into dry grass" is folly. I live near a greenbelt. If I see you tossing lit matches around, I"m going to put out the fire right away, and kick your ass. I'm not going to wait until my house burns down to take steps. The people who lived through one of the greatest forest fires ever are telling us over and over, "this is exactly how the fire started back then." Only idiots would ignore them. Or people who actually WANT that fire to burn. Which are you?7 points

Yeah, it's only whiny children and dickheads who would rather play this non-conference slate instead of locking in Texas A&M and the attitude that comes with that game: 2019-20 - LSU 2022-23 - Alabama 2024,28 - Michigan 2026-27 - Ohio State 2028-29 - Georgia More like it's only still being talked about because a bunch of supposed adults are brain-dead morons.6 points

"Sounds like a lot of money and resources, plus expecting the government to be able to track anything is a reach, but commendable." - People coming over here are paying a coyote $5k to get them across. Imagine if they just paid $1k each to secure a proper work permit. There's a hunk of revenue right there. Now, reduce the costs of immigration enforcement, because we won't have as many folks crossing illegally. Cost savings to boot. Tracking is simple: your work permit is for a set period of time. Before it expires, you need to present it to immigration officials verifying that you are leaving the country, or present it in person to an immigration official for renewal (depending on how renewable we make them, under what conditions, etc.). Failure to do so results in 1) non-renewal of the work permit and 2) a bar to any further re-entry and work permit, ever again. "Finding these folks jobs, commesurate with skillset will be a challenge which will lead to an increase in costs." Wait...I thought the problem was that they are taking all of our jobs? And, to look around, I can tell you that the brown folks aren't having a problem finding work. Go to any new subdivision being built. Go to the back of the house in a restaurant. They're plenty employed. Seriously, even the least employable are generally pretty employable. Hell, we have helped an illiterate Afghani single mom, and after a year, she was fully self-supporting of her and her two kids. And she's about as "least employable" as you can get. "The stabilization part will cost a ton too, espeically for the crowd that already hates on us for being involved in the middle east for the last 10000 years." It doesn't have to be perfect, just better than it is. The best part is, the easiest step is one that SAVES us billions -- just end the war on drugs. Take away the value of the black market for narcos, and Mexico and Central America would improve by leaps and bounds in short order. As for the amount of assistance, it really doesn't take a lot. And again, a dollar of prevention saves two dollars of enforcement. It's going to be the more cost-effective path. What folks fail to realize is that we have had a functional immigration system and southern border in the recent past (seriously, in my lifetime). It pre-dated the war on drugs - that's a biggie. We're actually at that strange place where doing the decent/humane thing and doing the fiscally and security responsible thing are THE SAME THING. Which actually means that it can't get done -- because unless it makes people suffer, than it doesn't satisfy those folks who wanna be "TOUGH ON IMMIGRATION!" It's myopic and simplistic, but fuck, at this point, we might as well print "myopic and simplistic" on all our coinage. Cause we sure as shit don't "in God we trust."6 points

I was with W in 200-something when he said "fuck it" they are here, give em papers and lets get smarter about the next waves. thought that was the most adult goddamn thing to do. of course it was shot down (like a Polish bi-lane lulz) Our country not being able to communicate IS THE PROBLEM. 500 desperate immigrants - not so much. Therefore - Trumps shitty rhetoric IS THE PROBLEM. because its mobilizing inaction @Smax and other posters commenting that we are blowing this out of proportion and we have the right to defend our borders. Of course we do. Open your eyes and brain. There is a very big problem at hand and it needs all of us to communicate. end drug war, beef up border security, guest worker program. they should all be on the table. But as we know - the US government doesn't have a table to put shit on. We are completely dysfunctional6 points

Investigators: Did you visit with Julian Assange in the embassy in Ecuador? Manafort: No. Absolutely not. I can say that with certainty and I'd also urge you to check the visitation logs where you'll see I've never been there. Investigators: What about these photos of you entering the embassy in Ecuador to visit Julian Assange? Manafort: Hmm. That's uh ... hmm. Life can be pretty crazy, huh? We're all gonna look back on this some day and have a huge laugh, am I right? Anyway, how have you guys been doin'?6 points

Thanks, PCH. Guess I was the "slow burn" sort of drunk. 44 years old and really "only" a heavy drinker on and off for 23-24 years. Years 25-26, was drinking morning, noon, night, liquor only, trying to hide it, lying about it, etc. The whole 9 yards. Lots of boundaries and rules came. Wife and kids went out of town and I ended up not going to work all week; I've never done that. Driving drunk, one car accident, locked myself out of my house and eventually found my keys feet away from where I "peacefully" spent the night in my back yard. Ended up in the ER twice with 188/120 BP. Went to a ghetto sober living facility here in Houston that wasn't going to work, so my wife, who could have left my ass and taken the three kids with her, busted me out, worked her tail off finding a recovery program, and generally saved my life. But, for once, I have hope. I know more about myself and why I've tried to cover my feelings and fears with booze. I have learned how to communicate better with my wife and others. I have learned how to not be a people pleaser and also how not to offer my opinion / super-smart solutions when not asked. I've been truly blessed to have lots of complete strangers offer to help me, and many of them have. The power of the program. UT '96, BA - Lib Arts. Lived in Moore-Hill 1992-1994, "second front"; grad degree out of state where they play lacrosse and tennis Proud '92 Denton Bronco (when DHS was the only HS in Denton) Reluctant Houstonian, but thankful for St. Martin's and Post Oak AA Groups from which I have learned quite a bit and made many great connections Thanks, Surl.6 points

You are a long-standing member of this community and your opinion commands respect. That said, your reasonable, calm, and well-worded approach has no place in the reactionary hyperbolic environment we live in today in the post-fact era. First, this is totally out there. As in, this guy, is a fag. There is technically only one entity here that is an arm of the state. The University. The other institution in question remains a subsidiary of The University as per the Constitution of the State of Texas. The game in question may have been played for more than 100 years, however the vast majority of your fellow alumni hated the game, detest the other institution, and hope their 100-year decision lasts for One Thousand Years. Quite frankly, never having to set foot again in that municipality, much less that stadium, is a gift that not even God himself could have bestowed upon our fellow alumni, fans and families. And this opinion is held by the only people that matter: alumni, staff, friends and family of The University of Texas at Austin. Any other citizen of the State of Texas who wishes to advocate for the forced renewal of this albatross of a game can, simply, pound sand. They have no say. Their opinion matters not. Most importantly, the game did not cease to be played over "bruised egos and a few million bucks". The game stopped because the other institution ran away. Anyone who "doesn't give a shit about which side started this slap fight" needs to understand that there is no slap fight. There is no them. There is only us. And the only opinion that matters is ours.. The other institution will be entitled to an opinion when they endorse and see through the legislature a full divorce of the two entities via an Amendment to the Constitution of the State of Texas, which shall also eliminate forever their annual claim to 33% of the Available University Fund. In other words, when we get to keep all of our money, anyone else can have a say. And an opinion. Which will remain of no value.5 points
-
Doesn't seem that out there to me. Both schools are arms of the state. The annual game was a significant and longstanding piece of Texas' culture, thoroughly enjoyed and anticipated by many citizens of our state. For many people, watching or going to that game is central in their memories of spending Thanksgiving with loved ones. Putting on that game was a benefit these two public universities bestowed on the state for a hundred years, and they stopped doing it over some bruised egos and a few million bucks. I really don't see why it's outrageous at all for the legislature to step in and tell both schools to get over themselves and make with the football already. The Surly and TexAgs contingents are always against it, but ordinary fans and Texans in general liked the game, they're annoyed it went away and they'd like it to come back. Most people don't give a shit about which side started this slap fight, or whether one team "deserves" to play the other, or who's scared to play or any of that.5 points

The "primary sources" are a court filing for a custody suit, a blog written by the father, a blog from the Church of Carrolton, and a gofund me to raise money for the father. There isn't anything included in the link from an unbiased source to verify the accuracy of anything in the article. If there were, then this would be a topic worth discussing in this forum. But since this is an entirely one-sided account of a custody dispute published in a notoriously hyper partisan editorial/news site, then this belongs in cloak room.5 points

Imagine being fawned over in high school, winning state championships, being in the heisman conversation, signing a 5 million dollar signing bonus, and not being able to utter meaningless platitudes about another athlete that is having a good season. every 5-10 years or so, aggy is due for a "win that will change the culture, program direction.." etc. The last three I can think are: - 2018 "7 OT Thriller to end losing streak to 'rival' LSU" -2012 "Johnny beats Bama in their house, moon doesnt control the tide.." -2006 "12-7 ending losing streak to defending National Champions and hated rival Texas.." One thing to notice is if each of the those games were played ten times, aggy would lose eight. They never just beat the fuck out of someone. All those games came down to controversial and / or fluky circumstances. Then they regress to the back to the mean.5 points
