I guess I don't really follow this post. Win or lose tomorrow, I still go to sleep tomorrow night with a UT degree. It's the same as it ever was. I realize for you and yours, your entire identity as a human is basically wound into the OU football program, but that's not the case for us on this side of the border. That's the thing, it's never been, and that's why you twits despise us. Whatever our issues are as fans, we're not lacking a sense of self-importance and elitism, and we never have. We're better than you and yours, irrespective of football result, and that's indisputable fact.14 points

We always need to beat our rival, but this particular game... and this particular quarterback of theirs... we just have to win. Kyler Murray represents everything that our University and team fucking despise---he's aggy; he's a sooner; he handled his recruiting with us in a distasteful way; and he's an entitled, poor sport, bitch ass, prima donna who will not lay it on the line for his team. He has quarterbacked our rival to a top 5 ranking and a potential playoff berth. But we have the opportunity to shut all of that shit down on Saturday like Stonie Clark at the goal line. We have to win. After last season, I thought there would never be another sooner quarterback that I would dislike more than Baker Mayfield, but here we are. Baker was a douchenozzle turned to 11, but he was a hell of a team player who laid it on the line for his team every week, which I respected. Kyler is a fucking mercenary, soldier of fortune, and nothing more. His head is also more inflated than Dolly Parton's breasts. The reason he couldn't bring himself to even remotely acknowledge Ehlinger's capable quarterback play is because, in Kyler's mind, Ehlinger is so far beneath him that he simply cannot deign to entertain a discussion that puts his name in the same sentence with another quarterback's. Kyler must stand alone (even if just barely to 5 feet). The game on Saturday is just another stop on the road for Kyler and his team. Kyler believes it is his entitled destiny to win a CFP title "just for funsies" before he heads off to MLB next year. For our team, however, this game is basically our season. It's already been established as extremely likely that we are landing in the Sugar Bowl regardless of this game's outcome, but winning a Big 12 title is something we haven't done in nearly a decade, and winning it this year would exorcise a lot of demon monkeys that have been on our back since we lost Colt against Alabama. I believe that this game simply means more to us than it means to them. And it means a hell of a lot to them, considering what's on the line. We have to win. Fuck Kyler Murray, fuck his team, and fuck his entitled destiny. I wish him the best in baseball, but in football he needs to get the fuck off my field. This is our time (and it's been a long fucking time). Although we already beat his ass in October, Kyler, his team, and all their fans, are absolutely certain that the October outing was a fluke. It was not. They are relishing in their opportunity to prove that it was a fluke. They will be disappointed. This is the game that will officially mark the shifting of power in the Big 12 back into our favor. OU's star is fading; after this season they will be without a quarterback and possibly even without a head coach. With a win on Saturday, we can proudly and confidently utter the phrase that has been little more than a meme for the past several seasons. You know the one. We have to win. There just really is no other option. See you in Arlington.11 points

The Trumpkin version of America operating from a position of strength is to have the president mope around a summit of world leaders scrunchy-faced and maudlin while the two genocidal thugs who just got done playing bongos across his chapped ass literally high five each other and give a Soul Train handshake twenty feet away from his dumbass orange face.8 points

No, you're just the one regurgitating the rules made by the men who came before you to justify their conquering genocide of many of the world's populations. Religion is the disease that destroyed civilizations throughout history. Your reference to a collection of stories and fables revised and changed over the eons by scared and hateful men does not convince me that you know what's coming better than anyone else. It just demonstrates your need for strict control and order in a chaotic world, and your total and absolute fear of death. The blackness will come for you, your fairy tale won't stop it. Your vain and self-congratulatory belief that you have the answer would be laughable if it didn't reflect an attitude that only leads to misery for others. You know nothing, gsoda.8 points

The truth is he was mostly fine here and sometimes quite good until Mack demanded that he install the 1950's offense Bama beat us with. Despite the fact that what GDGD was doing had allowed us to keep it competitive with Bama in the NCG with our backup QB and a really quite bad OL.7 points

I am a lawyer, and I'm quite certain the statute also says "provided that, it shall not be a crime for a police officer, whether or not on duty, to shoot and kill a large drug fueled black person, as all such incidents are deemed to be self defense regardless of any other surrounding circumstance." Another part of the statute defines "police officer" as "any white person" and "large drug fueled black person" as "any black person."7 points

Yeah, we built the biggest superpower the world has ever seen and a prosperous global economic order. But we did all that for a reason. We did it because our crazy ideas of the rule of law and free societies are worth fighting for. We believed free societies are less likely to fight each other in wars. Yeah, we made contradictory alliances and behaved in ways antithetical to our values for strategic and economic interests. Just because we don’t always live up to the values and ideas we project doesn’t mean we should stop projecting them. Because the alternative is worse.5 points

They are taking advantage of/manipulating groups that they couldn't in the past, on both the left and right - in the past, these were small groups that you might hear something about occasionally - perhaps the fire-bombing of lumber equipment in the NW, or an abortion clinic bombing, or an attack against an individual or group that was very localized. These groups were usually geographically limited. 25 years ago, Cletus in Bumfuck, Oklahoma, who hates abortion clinics is not going to communicate with Bubbette in Dog Holler, Alabama who thinks the government is out to force school kids to be atheists. Raynebowe in Oregon who hates captilism is not going to communicate with Windsong who hates American banks because daddy is a banker and pays her no attention. Many of these people believed they were practically alone in their thinking. Fast forward to the 2010s, and all of these people can frequently communicate with each other with a few simple clicks. Their worldview has not only expanded, but they can instantly dip into echo chambers that didn't exist before to reinforce their beliefs (sorry usenet, AOL, and BBSes, you got nothing on twitter, Facebook, reddit, etc.). They have internet friends who goad them into action, whether it's bitching about some policy, or actively engaging in some activity in the real world. The Russians (and others) saw what many of us were blind to - these groups were ripe for the picking and manipulating. They had the platforms, they had the numbers, they just needed somebody to guide them along.5 points

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. If I had two wishes that I could wish for this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace.. and the second would be for $30 million a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account. You know, if I had three wishes that I could make this holiday season, first, of course, would be for all the children to get together and sing.. the second would be for the $30 million every month to me.. and the third would be for all encompassing power over every living being thing in the entire universe. And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, first would be the crap about the kids.. second would be for the $30 million.. the third would be for all the power.. and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year for an extended 31-day orgasm, to be brought about slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina somebody, I can’t think of her name, of course my lovely wife could come, too. She’s behind me 100% on this, I guarantee you. Wait a minute, maybe that sex thing should be the first wish! So, if I made that the first wish, because, you know, it could all go boom tomorrow, and then what have you got? No, no.. the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. No, no, who am I kidding! I mean, they’re not gonna be able to get all those kids together! I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible! It’s more trouble than it’s worth! So, we reorganize: here we go. First, the sex – we go with that; second, the money. No! We go with the power second, then the money, and then the kids. Oh, wait, oh geez! I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay.. revenge against all my enemies, they should dielike pigs in Hell! That would be the fourth wish! And of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of peace and harmony. Thank you, everybody.5 points

To uncouple Mack from the 2005 championship is fatuous. Would Mackovic have won it? Would Charlie had he come back then? Would RC had we hired him away as we did Bible? Mack was always too soft against OU. He went downhill late in his time here. He stayed too long and took too much money. But that championship was a product of his being here.5 points

For gsoda (or others defending him), the question in my mind is why he chose THESE particular people, though. Clearly they haven't heard anything about Jesus (or maybe they have - I haven't read up on previous efforts to contact them) and Chau saw that as a big problem. That much I understand, fair enough. But consider the other factors at hand: They have demonstrated repeatedly and violently that they do not want to be contacted by anyone No one on Earth outside of their island speaks their language or in fact knows much of anything about it Regardless of the interminable debate in this thread, there are legitimate concerns about exposing them to outside pathogens It is illegal for anyone to attempt to contact them There are only a few dozen of them on the island in the first place I could probably go on, but you get the idea. Chau could have gone to the streets of Dhaka or Jakarta and in a single morning found 10 times as many people who know nothing of Jesus, desperately need help, and won't kill him immediately. I assume that Chau's worldview included the belief that everyone, everywhere needs to hear about Jesus, but the simple fact is that him rowing a canoe to North Sentinel Island and getting killed immediately on the beach does nothing to accomplish his mission, actively agitates the people he claims to be trying to help, and wastes his life which by all appearances would have been much more useful elsewhere on the Earth. I'm far from a theologian, but I doubt that's what his God had in mind when he commanded him to spread the word. And there's pretty good evidence that Chau knew that was the most likely outcome (see post #287 of this thread - "Don't recover my body"). You seem well versed in the theology here, and I'd like to hear a possible explanation for Chau's motives. But personally, if my goal is for everyone on the planet to hear about my God, I wouldn't start with the group that's highly likely to kill me (or vice versa). Save those guys for last.5 points

What I would want to ask all of our proud flag waving Donald Trump supporters is a pretty simple question. Why do you think both the President and representatives of the Kremlin have the exact same inaccurate story regarding Trump's intention to build a Trump Tower Moscow? When the President himself has now completely changed his story and admitted the deal was in the works, and there was nothing wrong or illegal about it. Then why lie about it if you are Trump? Even more intesestingly why lie about it from the Russian side? These are super simple questions that you will find nearly impossible for our proud flag waving Donald Trump supporters. Instead you will hear a bunch of gobbledegook that makes no sense followed by... but I still support Trump! I also want to know which lie our proud flag waving Trump supporters prefer to believe. That Trump was lying when he signed his name to a letter of intent? Or that Trump was lying about having any intent or desire to build a Trump Tower Moscow? I would also be curious about who the fuck would be so damn gullible as to believe that Donald J. Trump had no idea about the dangling of a $50 million penthouse to Putin? I mean the guy is so cheap he set up a fake charity with his kids to save his own cash. Exactly zero chance a guy who won't pay his contractors did not have any knowledge about a $50 million or even a $5 million penthouse tease to Putin, zero chance. But not to worry! Our proud flag waving Trump supporters will (as always) find the least likely, least plausible and embrace it as bedrock fact to explain how alternative reality works... it just won't make any sense to those of us living in current reality...5 points

We were all calling each other nazi trolls but some folks found that impolite; it was rightly pointed out that since nazis had a great fashion sense and a clearly defined aesthetic, most high class clothing choices were a step towards putting people in gas chambers as well as nazi cultural appropriation; out of respect or disrespect to the nazis, depending on your view of marginal tax rates, some vows of slovenliness were made, although it seemed a little like the tail wagging the dog considering this crowd; then it was pointed out you can actually yell fire in a crowded theatre, although it’s unclear if it matters who started the fire, whether you’re trying to fight it, or what this has to do with Leonard Bernstein; a logical fallacy was discussed with unusual accuracy; and now we’re here; also speech is now spelled speach.5 points

not sure if this has been posted but this is truly an OH SHIT connection. reddit poster links russians, trump, dooche bank, justice kennedy, justice kennedy's son, and kavanaugh. https://np.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/a1ng9b/trump_is_compromised_by_russia/earilkz/ Oh hey check out this photo of Rotem Rosen with Aras Agalarov, Donald Trump, and Alex Sapir at the Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow in 2013. Rotem Rosen... that name rings a bell. Wait, is that the same Rotem Rosen that was photographed with Michael Cohen at the famous sidewalk cigar scene? Yep, that's him in the blue suit. Oh, and he's the son of a Russian oligarch who forms a direct connection between Putin and Trump? Weird. Hey who's that in the back there wearing a grey suit? Because it sure looks like Jerry Rotonda, former Deutsche Bank exec in charge of the American wealth management division.. Is that the same Deutsche Bank that was fined $660 million for laundering Russian oligarch money? I guess so. Oh well, shit happens, right? I mean, it's not like Deutsche Bank was raided again in the course of an investigation into money-laundering... right?Wait, that happened today? Surely this is all one big coincidence. edit - I see a lot of comments insinuating that this Deutsche-Bank-employees-facilitating-large-scale-money-laundering-for-Russian-oligarchs nonsense is somehow related to Justice Kennedy abruptly vacating his lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Yeah, Justice Kennedy's son was the global head of the real-estate capital markets division of Deutsche Bank, which lent to Trump when no other banks would. And yeah, after his first address to Congress, Trump took a second to tell Justice Kennedy, in front of everybody: “Say hello to your boy,” Mr. Trump said. “Special guy.” But that's just Trump being Trump, the dude has the best memory. There are any number of reasons that Justice Kennedy decided to replace himself with Kavanaugh. I mean, it's just a seat on the Supreme Court. Big whoop. The fact that he might've been forced to recuse himself from upcoming SCOTUS cases almost certainly had nothing to do with the decision.4 points
