  1. The secret visitor is actually Bru McCoy on Trey Sanders' shoulders but they're both wearing a trenchcoat so they just look like one really tall recruit.

  2. This phenomenon is actually fucking crazy. In the past 10 years or so, Rs have completely and totally gone fucking insane. It's like the Fox News/Limbaugh potion they were ingesting for 30 years all of a sudden took hold. The only thing it was lacking was a trigger and, ho boy, get a black man into office and BAM! I think this really needs to be recognized. This isn't a difference in political ideologies. It is a radical shift in objective reality. You cannot have a functioning society where 1/3 of the populace have their brains addled to the point where they quite literally think that facts and truth are not real. As has been said, Trump is not the biggest problem, he is merely a projection of a serious break from reality.

  5. I am always amazed at how some posters act like the sky is falling for a HS kid who hasn’t played a down of D1 ball. Our haul at WR last year was elite for the Outside but panned by many posters because we didn’t get a slot. Now we have 2 elite slots coming in along with Josh Moore and the guys who were elite last year are now garbage and if we miss on a kid from Missouri, we should fire our WR coach because he now sucks? Giles gets hammered, yet he produces and his DL men are the best in conference but he can’t recruit and should be fired? Y’all make no god damn sense. We will be fine. Let’s finish with Sanders, Bru, Caleb Lewis, Hookfin, and Coker and let Yancy and the coaches do the rest. If kids don’t want to commit to Texas, best of luck with your decision because this train is headed to the Playoffs next year and for a MNC in Sam’s Senior year

  6. Despite Dems soliciting and incorporating 161 GOP amendments into the ACA (only to hear Pubs lie through their faces about it being railroaded through) in a futile effort to secure a single GOP vote, despite the Public Option being removed by the champions of competition, despite the final version more closely resembling Romneycare/1993 Republican counterproposal to the Clinton Universal Healthcare Initiative than anything the Dems had previously proposed, despite the courts ruling states could opt out of Medicare expansion, despite Pubs intentionally roiling the markets with uncertainty beating the repeal wardrums, despite a Republican Congress being found in violation of the law by defunding risk corridors designed to foster competition, and despite Pubs effectively cancelling what was originally their own fucking idea, the individual mandate, the ACA STILL AMAZINGLY ALMOST MIRACULOUSLY - insured millions of more Americans than previosly covered - slowed the rate of healthcare cost growth (even more so in states that expanded Medicare) -slashed medical bankruptcies in goddamn half By almost any meaningful metric that measures the common good, the ACA, despite its flaws and Republican sabotage, still improved a shitty situation.

He felt that Barkley and him had similar experiences. "So, to me, as an Asian in the U.S., I felt as long as I do a good job, people will respect me," my dad said. Barkley and my dad both worked hard — so hard, they believed, that the color of their skin didn’t matter. In Chinese, we’d say that dad sometimes would 胡说八道(hú shuō bā dào) — that meant that sometimes he was known for spewing rubbish. I know that basketball fans might say Barkley often does the same. In June 2015, Barkley's mother passed away. When my dad heard the news, he looked up the funeral details and hopped on a plane to Leeds, Alabama. "It ain’t easy to get to those places," Barkley said. "I’m from a very small town." And my dad showed up for his friend. Afterward, he went to dinner with Barkley and his family. "For your dad to take the time to come to the funeral meant a great deal to me," Barkley said. Then, in May 2016, my dad was diagnosed with cancer. He had tumors in his heart. I took that fall off from school. My dad and I watched mobster movies together. Action movies. Kung Fu movies. When the credits rolled, we’d flip to a basketball game. Just me and him, watching a lot of TV in our living room. Days passed by. Then months. Then, it was two years. My dad never told Barkley that he was sick. "I called him and got mad at him when I found out," Barkley said. "I was, like, 'Dude, we’re friends. You can tell me. You’re not bothering me. You know me well enough — if you were bothering me, I would tell you you were bothering me.' " What Barkley didn’t know was that my dad watched him almost every night on TNT. And while he rested and healed, my dad was laughing along with Barkley. He kept my dad company. The NBA Finals June 2018. NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. My dad was staying in palliative care at the hospital. He loved the Warriors. I visited and read him sports highlights. He didn’t get to watch J.R. Smith’s late mistake in Game 1 live. I tried to get him to laugh about Smith dribbling away from the hoop because he thought his team was ahead. But it was a Sunday afternoon, and my dad was tired. The summer light filled his room. Then, the day faded, and dusk began to enter. After it was all over, I went through my dad’s phone and texted all his friends. I wrote: The funeral was the day after the NBA Finals. My dad’s favorite team, the Golden State Warriors, had won the night before. The funeral was set near the outskirts of Iowa City in a house by the woods. I was talking to my childhood friend when she suddenly looked stunned. I turned to look behind me. And standing there — drenched in sweat from the Iowa summer, towering over everyone in the room at 6 feet, 6 inches tall — was Charles Barkley. "I had not met anybody in your family," Barkley said. "I didn’t know anybody there." Everyone watched, astonished, as this man — this man we only knew from TV, this worldwide celebrity — walked down the aisle, looked at us and sighed. 'Why My Dad?' Later, after it all, I texted Barkley and asked him: "Why my dad? Why did he matter so much to you?" And recently, I called him up and asked: "What did you even have to talk about?" "Well, I think — first of all, clearly, he was a fan," Barkley said. "But I think the main thing we talked about was you and your brother." "What did you guys talk about — what did he say?" I asked. "I think it was more that he was proud," Barkley said. "Because I’ve got a daughter, too. I’m just really, really proud of her, because I think she’s a good person. And your dad was so proud of you and your brother. "Listen: as an adult — and you’re too young to understand this now — all you want is your kids to be happy. That’s what you work for. To give your kids everything in life." The more Charles Barkley and I talked, I realized just how close he and my dad were. Barkley knew so much about me and my life — even though this was the first time he and I had ever talked. (Courtesy Shirley Wang) "It gives me great memories and great joy to know that I was a friend of his," Barkley said. "Just hearing about him at the funeral — what he had accomplished and what he was trying to help other people accomplish, just made me even — I wished he bragged more about himself." "So, let me get this straight: you were impressed by him?" I asked. "Yeah," Barkley said. 'I Was Blessed To Know Him' At the funeral, people shared memories of my dad and made me realize that, for example, he was not just a cat litter chemist — but an industry-changing scientist with a Ph.D. And not just an immigrant — but someone who reached out to Chinese newcomers. And not just a thoughtful guy — but someone people trusted for advice. I realized that, even after he passed away, I would continue to learn things about my dad. Before Barkley and I hung up, he had one more thing to say: "Hey, listen. You stay in touch. Please tell your mom I said hello. Give her a big kiss. Tell your brother I said hello. And listen: just keep doing you. It’s your time now. Don’t forget that. That’s the most important thing. "Your dad prepared you to take care of yourself. He prepared you for that. I was blessed to know him — and know you, too." "Thank you for your time," I said. "You're welcome, baby. You take it easy, you hear?" "You too." I know how much his friendship with Charles Barkley meant to my dad. It was not just a relationship with a celebrity — it shed light on the possibilities of this world. A world where someone like him could just say something cool, something charming, and befriend someone like Charles Barkley. I’m so glad that now I get to share my dad’s No. 1 dinner party story. 10. Here is the thing about Trump: he half-believes the nutty conspiracy theories he talks about. He really does believe that the Clintons and Obamas got away with obvious wide scale corruption. Why shouldn’t he? He may he honestly confused why citing Uranium One is not a get out of trouble card. He doesn’t get that not everyone is as bad as he is. He thinks his normal corruption is normal for everyone. Why should he be the one to get in trouble?

  12. He was a Wishbone halfback out of Hudson, Wisconsin. If I remember correctly, he wasn't heavily recruited out of high school but had an aunt who worked at UT who gave a highlight film to Coach Royal - who DID recruit him. Also, I'm told he didn't know how to block when he first got to UT. Royal said, that's OK, we'll teach him. He threw a key block that helped Ted Koy on a 10 yard run on the play after the Street-Peschel bomb in the Texas-Arkansas game. He scored the tying touchdown himself on the next play. The photo above is a run in the 1970 Arkansas game. We were leading, 14-7 and had just stopped them on a goal line stand after a first down on our 3 yard line. Bill Montgomery got inside the one on 4th down but no more. We then proceeded on a 99 yard TD drive that broke their back. We won, 42-7, the caption is incorrect.

  17. Now, in the 60's there were only two other cars made in America that had positraction and indepedent rear suspension. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with a Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base and wheel track as the '64 Skylark and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.

  19. That judge’s decision is hilarious. The Trump DOJ was not advocating equality for the whole law to be struck down. The holding is basically: “This law originally had a bunch of parts.” One of those parts is unconstitutional. Now, that part was recently removed in 2017 by duly enacted legislation which kept most of the other parts. HOWEVER, that part can’t be taken out so...because the ACA had the unconstitutional part many years ago, and I think you can’t take it out, now I’m striking down the new version altogether.” * Bonus point: THIS is what an activist ruling looks like.

  23. My set up story- I know jack shit about guitars, all I know is celery recommended that Les Paul SL and you guys all said no matter what else you do, you need to get it set up. I get the guitar and start calling around to the guitar centers, and other shops trying to schedule something when I see a story about the estate of Prince threatening to sue the original maker of the cloud guitar from Purple Rain. The guy was making these guitars out of a shop in his home in Bloomington, MN and selling them for 8,000 per. Prince's folks thought they owned the design rights while he obviously disagreed since he made the first one. Since I live in Bloomington, I called him figuring he'd laugh at me asking him to set up a low end guitar, but he just says "sure, bring it by the house and I'll take a look at it." So that's how someone who knows nothing about guitars ended up getting a $120 guitar set up by a world class luthier that designed an iconic piece of music history and also did work for the Stones, Who, Def Lepperd and Stray Cats among others. I picked it up today and the guy kept saying how he was stunned about what a good guitar it was and couldn't believe someone could make that quality at that price. He said that other than the pickups (which were good but not great) a world class guitarist could pick it up and be happy playing it. Moral of the story- trust celery when he recs a guitar and only get your set ups from the best.

  24. My brother, standing in the exit on the west side 50 yard line, got so excited he started slapping the back of the guy in front of him. The fellow turned around and said “get off me”. At the same time two Secret Service agents grabbed my brother and dragged him away from Lyndon B. Johnson.

  30. If you take the systemic corruption as the biggest threat to our form of government and not a left or right ideology then it doesn’t matter what she thinks on policy because she is the corruption assassin of the left. Not even warren or sanders can compete with her. The funny thing is the Jesus camp of the right should also have their “get the money changers” out of the temple radicals but they don’t. Socialism isn’t the existential threat to our democracy, corruption is - just like in every other country on the planet from Mexico and Central America to Russia to African banana republics and everywhere in between. Root out corruption, and do it from the left and maybe one day from the right, but don’t hold your breath on that one.
