  2. Oddly, there are people in charge of the university that see Texas as an institution of higher learning that also has a football team instead of a football team running a university.

  3. This. Trump has foolishly made this -- and every other thing he does -- a zero-sum game. The problem with zero-sum games is that once the other side figures out what's going on, they make sure you lose. Completely and totally. The Dems have ZERO incentive to compromise here. Trump has tied a noose around his own neck and keeps tightening it. Why on earth would they provide him any relief? The MAJORITY of Americans oppose the wall. The MAJORITY of Americans have a negative opinion of Trump, and that percentage is climbing because of and during this shutdown. Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake. The longer this shutdown goes, the more Trump hurts himself. Let him do so.

  4. When Guitar Center says "Open Box," they mean someone opened the box and took a chisel to the finish. But frankly, I got it for 31% off, and despite at least 6 dings through the finish, it is basically new and I am smitten. I'm kind of glad it has some dings. A little wear never hurt a Fender, and I won't have to have that sinking feeling when I add to the collection. This may play as well out of the box as any Fender I ever have owned. And I'm sure they took no effort to set it up. The action is good. It doesn't buzz. It will fret out if I bend more than a whole step on a high B string, but that supposedly is par for the course with the 7.25" fretboard, which I must admit is super comfortable to play. The rosewood looks superb. The frets have not sprouted despite its trip from MN. Sounds nice and spanky like a good tele.

  5. Actually the Democrats should play his game back and tell him the funding gets smaller and their demands get larger each day of the shutdown. Planned parenthood gets more funding would be a nice start.

  7. Fucking nitwit. Comparing the left’s almost two decade’s long opposition to the GOP created Iraqi fake WMD war that never ends to Cheeto’s unilateral tweet to withdraw us from Syria - a day after we told our allies we were still committed to Syria - is so you. Limit your ‘both sides’ activities to pounding your nuts with a hammer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Went out this morning solo. No dog, no kids or buddies. Just me and mother nature. It has been a long time since I hunted by myself. It's good for the soul. Ended up with a mixed bag of gadwall and wigeon. After the rain last night, the water was way up. Usually the spot where I park the rhino is dry and it was halfway up the tires this morning.

  9. There once was a boy from Nantucket, that an actor bought drinks for by the bucket. When it all came to light, the actor considered his plight, turned on the camera and said “fuck it.”

  11. I always wanted to make the good bumps and no way did I want to do this final one. Had the good fortune of spending several afternoons on Mr. O's porch and also made sure my young children got to meet and visit with him. Truly an incredible experience, for all of us. I'm incredibly sad of his passing but also just so happy to have been in this man's midst for good periods of time. Rest in peace, Mr. Overton.

  13. Everybody is paying for players so we should —> Technically this is against the rules so we’ll do it privately and indirectly —> We will have to lie about what we are doing on any official or public disclosures —> No thanks. I like watching guys who attend my alma mater win when they play certain games, but not enough that I can advocate lying, fraud, and surrendering to the travelers of the low road. We don’t have to kill ourselves self-scouting for minor peccadilloes. But we should set a standard and expectation of integrity. If the rules of the game leave it ripe for abuse, advocate for change, live with the fact that aggy and his ilk lie and cheat, and/or start a new game (like when we founded the SWC). If I’m going to sacrifice principle to cheer for a winner, it would be simpler and faster just to cheer for Bama instead of TEXAS.

  14. I think simplism starts with the facile cynicism that college football is just another business thus pragmatism should outweigh delusions of integrity. I think the whole thing is founded in the obsession in the fan base about winning a national championship that seems to be like a heroin addiction. I don't want Texas sucking dicks beside a dumpster to attain that wonderful high. The response may be that we're already cutting a few corners in the gray areas. My answer remains the same. I don't want Texas sucking dicks beside a dumpster to attain that wonderful high.

  19. I don’t know about Pelosi this time. Obama would have compromised, because as a matter of principle he viewed compromise as something with intrinsic value. Pelosi does not. She appears to be much more motivated by the retention and expansion.of leverage. So why should she compromise in this situation? She’s holding all the cards. If I’m her, my “ compromise” offer is for the house to pass the continuing resolution that the senate unanimously passed, plus a deal on DACA.

  20. I’m at this game. Go Owls! No piped in music. Other than a bit of pyro for the national anthem, no production whatsoever. Just college bands, cheerleaders and the game on a nice, cool sunny day. So pure and clean. Whatever happened to this?

  25. The attempt on Nordberg's life left me shaken and disturbed, and all the questions kept coming up over and over again, like bubbles in a case of club soda. Who was this character in the hospital? And why was he trying to kill Nordberg? And for whom? Did Ludwig lie to me? I didn't have any proof, but somehow, I didn't entirely trust him either. Why was the 'I Luv You' not listed in Ludwig's records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn't, who did? And where the hell was I?

  26. I hate Trump but I think this is overblown. Unless those guys were DEVGRU or otherwise under the DIA program to manage cover of key assets, I don’t think ‘regular’ Team guys identity is some huge secret...they may have been part of his cover detail for all we know. I feel like there are many more legit, treasonous, illegal things that deserve attention on DJT than this. The key thing with this photo op that bothers me is that it appears he *surprised face* arranged it for his own political gain...and not something that was an accident or agreed upon by those operators.

  27. I got my nephew the same set up thanks to this thread. He went crazy over it! It was so much fun to watch him to unwrap it. He opened the amp first and said, "I don't know what this is but it looks cool!" Then, when he opened the guitar he lit up. I did not expect that level of excitement as his mom only casually mentioned that he was interested.

  33. Xmas gifts from my racist FIL just showed up. My daughter got a card with a $100 check. She just donated the whole thing to Annunciation House in El Paso to help with emergency housing for the 500 people being dropped at the bus station today. Kind of enjoyed that irony, seems fitting. Wife and I just did the same with the check he sent us.

  35. Another good thought I saw today. This from a guy who used to work for Motley Fool (don’t love their site/pitch but like this quote). As previously noted on this thread, I’m a long-term investor who believes in capturing the S&P with a balanced portfolio depending on your goals. Most of what matters as a long-term investor is how you behave during the 1% of the time everyone else is losing their cool. Every one of the market's top days took place during periods of Sheer Terror. Of the 20 Best Market Days of all Time, 17 were during the Great Depression, 1 was a few Days After the Crash of 1987, and 2 were during the Depths of the 2008 Financial Crisis. Missing these days Devastated your Long-Term Returns. And most investors who missed them were those who sold out, or stopped buying, after stocks crashed and everyone around them were busy panicking. Those who try to avoid losses consistently end up missing even larger gains. That's why [Boring and] Average all of the time, ends up above average overall. Like a plane pilot, investing is "hours and hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror." Your success as an investor will be determined by how you respond to punctuated moments of terror, not the years and years spent on cruise control.
