There's more than just 2019 stuff in this update, but I'm not being paid to post, so I'm dumping it all here and you guys can do with it/disseminate it/ignore it as you like. Regarding the UA guys, from someone with inherent knowledge: -Washington - going to be a major player at the next level. He doesn't have a "one thing" that makes you say wow, but he's the overall package who can be a standout in college. Guys like Barton Simmons are always looking for the one thing, because they're clowns, and coaches that can evaluate can usually find the guys that do it all better than average, and when put together, are elite overall as a result. -Gbenda - smart fucking player. Ceiling is at least All Big 12 in CFB. The team didn't have enough guys on the field for protecting a kick during the game, and without prompting, Gbenda sees this and runs onto the field and lines up to support the team. He wasn't on the field goal unit. He has a big wing span, which is a good sign at backer. The rumors of him being a flake during the recruitment are true in that he does his own thing and doesn't give a fuck about anyone's opinion, but it's mostly in the "I know where I'm headed" kind of way, which actually gives you the expectation that he'll be more steadfast as a teammate and player in college. -Johnson - between the ears, the best player on the field. A leader that causes others to shut the fuck up when he speaks, he runs the huddle and the team he's on. He's all arm mechanically, and that won't be good enough in college. No big deal. Proper QB coaching will help him use his core and hips, which will suddenly make him look like he has a whip. This was an original part of the understanding with him when he was recruited, but it's something that 24/7 marked him down for a year ago, and Rivals is now whining about after this week. -Liebrock - way thicker on the bottom than previously thought. He'll carry 250 in college without any loss in quickness or speed. Tough forum for him to excel in, but looks like he could be a stud in a good system in college. Smart player. -Watson - had a hamstring problem that limited during the week, but it is clear he has everything you want at CB. He will compete to start as a freshman. Underrated recruit after watching him up close. Other shit: -Jake Smith - high prima donna risk, per coaches who he grew up and played around. He begged off from the game because ... he didn't feel like playing. Don't shoot the messenger and this could prove to be bullshit once he's on campus. Just a data point to layer in to your thinking. -Speaking of Arizona boys, Spenser Rattler is basically Jameis Winston, at least maturity-wise. Might not be a problem at OU, but Riley isn't looking to run a fucking nuthouse. The fucking in the boys room thing is one of a number of data points that have given evaluators pause. On the field, he's probably the best QB in this class, or close to that. They're going to have to basically have guys around him if he winds up in the spotlight. Texas remaining outlook for 2019 class: -The North Shore DB, since the word is out, is high on the board. No clue if he's interested, but if he is, expect him to visit. Texas does what you want good staffs to do in that they keep evaluating. They're not going to offer to just to offer to fill a spot. They think he's a player. -They're getting another OL. -28 is the total expectation. Other schools' recruits: -Calzada - dude was tiny as a sophomore and on the JV. He grew 4-5 inches and added 40 pounds before his junior year. He's a better athlete than he gets credit for, and he has a fucking cannon. He has Ivy League grades and scores. Terrible arm accuracy even with okay mechanics. On the field, he's currently an idiot. If they can harness him mentality into being a stable thinker on the field, and if can find some accuracy, this will be a take that we mocked that pays off for ATM. Higher odds are in him being nothing special and a back-up, but as far as lottery tickets in a bad QB class, this one isn't the worst. -Alabama - Every fucking Bama player at the UA AA game is a fucking dawg. This is their best class yet. -Thibodeaux - Not quite going to be Clowney, but the hype is legit. -The OU players are good. Not daunting, but good. Wease is a stud and a motherfucker. Morris looks like a great take. Wete looks "fine". -Jerrion Ealy - he's going to be a high draft pick and will probably never play CFB. If he does, he's the second coming of Peter Warrick. -Cain - he will move the chains, but the build up for him over time was not merited. Plenty of solid backs that have comparable skills and size and got less attention. 2020 Guys and Beyond: -Card is legitimately good. He's going to be wiry, but he doesn't look fragile. -Cooper is fucking good, but he's not on the same level as Waddle or R Moore. Not knocking him, just calibrating. -Lindberg's first time against this caliber of guys was a learning experience. He's got the tools and is a take. Non-UA shit: -Texas will take a smaller class in 2020, much to my chagrin. In the teens. The flip is that, if they're right that this is all they can take, they're doing a good job of retaining players and building a roster for the long haul. -2020 will be a small OL and DL class accordingly. Smaller than we'd like on this board, if they close 2019 well. Majors will go elsewhere in part because of this. -They'll still take multiple backs. The AZ offer is bizarre because Evans, McGowan, Jordan, and Cooper are all guys that could wind up being in the class. The state of Texas is loaded at TB and they're in good shape with Cooper. -They look really, really good on west coast talent in 2020. They also need to take Texas players. It's going to be an interesting dance. -Pretty much impossible to find a CB that could get into grad school at Texas and push for playing time. OL is another story. -Whittington will be a hybrid getting handoffs and playing slot. -Kardell Thomas is 50+ pounds heavier than when rated and looks like a total flop. -The fatty going to OU on the OL was a guy that had to be subbed for at Allen on passing plays because he couldn't get his assignments right, and now he's also a fat ass. -OU is evaluating and recruiting akin to Chuckles. Plenty of talent coming in, but the roster mix and character types will be interesting to watch develop. -If LJH isn't scared of the piss test, he's determined to come back to Texas. The piss test risk is a big deal to him. -Texas fucking loves the last class and guys they redshirted. Some guys they're not hyping at all because of recruiting purposes, but at least one mom from the twitterverse should be excited about her son's future. -They expect Thompson back. Buechele is heading to SMU. -Christian Jones is one year away from being ready to be a stud at OT.69 points

The Longhorns’ scripted opening drive was a buffet of misdirection, a virtual smorgasbord: Play 1: LBs look to fill the A gaps while Texas runs sweep w/TE lead. Defense has to play catch up. Play 2: UGa brings 5, QB throws to the spot vacated by the blitzing LB. Play 3: Zone run. Aggressive LB over pursues, RB cuts back for +yardage. Play 4: WRs run the coverage off deep, QB checks down. Play 5: D brings 5 again, RB screen with 3 blockers. Play 6: Play action, D rushes 5 plus a spy, 12 yard hook route single coverage Play 7: Zone run for 2 yds Play 8: QB counter for 1 yd Play 9: Jerk or option route. 1st and goal at the 2. Play 10: QB lead/power. TD Notice Georgia had no trouble with the straight ahead runs but they were abused by misdirection PRECISELY because they were too aggressive. Then they couldn't stop the goal line run because the RB becomes an extra blocker and Sam has his choice of which gap to attack. The Bulldog defenders looked like fools out of position constantly. They started to doubt, to think instead of reading their keys and reacting. This paid dividends down the road. A classic example was late In the 3rd quarter. At the 1:45 mark, Texas lines up with Beck as an FB and Watson at TB. Georgia’s DL aligns with a 1-tech NT, 3-tech DT and both DEs in a wide 5-tech, almost a 7-tech. With a clear gap between the OTs outside shoulder and the DEs inside shoulder there is no way the DE should EVER lose outside leverage in this alignment. But at the snap you can see BOTH DEs standing there trying to diagnose the play. The play side end freezes and allows Cosmi to reach block to his OUTSIDE shoulder and seal the defender inside while Watson runs right past the soft corner for 12 yards. The backside DE also freezes instead of crashing down immediately to pursue the play. He at least has the excuse of a ZR keeper threat but scrapes halfheartedly well after it’s clear the ball is gone. Both of those guys were so confused they couldn’t see straight and refused to execute their assigned reads because they’d been fooled so many times before it's even clearer on the replay.31 points

Give me the guys with a year on everybody else. We're not the NFL. I don't give a fuck about the NFL. If I can have a 24 year old going up against 18 year olds, I'll take it. Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby say "hi". I'll take as many older guys as the system can produce. Some of you fucking dorks think we're building a Madden roster.13 points

I'm pretty sure that's why VY left a year early, too. Everyone in practice could see Colt was going to light it up with his accuracy, so I think Vince knew he'd be riding the pine if he stuck around. Right?13 points

That's the ESPN mindfuck that has tainted college football. They send top recruits to the SEC by the bus loads. But this time that hype bit Georgia. It is one thing to see LJH, CJ and SE on film and think to yourself "i can handle them" VY in person and VY on TV were not the same person. But to watch game film and not be prepared to get hit hard and constant is something else. It is funny how often the brain is willing to override what they eyes see for something the ears have been told. I guess we all want to belive e are special...... But if you watched any Texas film, it is very obvious that there are several on our secondary that are not the greatest at covering people, but they all will lay some serious wood... I guess we can thank ESPN. Between playing up Georgia as the "should have been" the 4th playoff team and all their conference games as tougher then playing Texas, confused Georgia and they though all those gifs they have been seeing of sooners jumping gator rolling Texas players was part of game film this year... I can see how Georgia got punched in the mouth and never recovered... can you imagine being the #1 UFC contender putting on a charity event vs Taylor Swift and she hit you in the jaw as hard as you've ever been hit before as soon as the ref said "fight". And that was just setting the tone, because she has every intention of going toe to toe in a slugfest in which she hits like a young Mike Tyson. You get a chance to clear the cobwebs in your head at the first bell and decide to take it to the ground before she knocks your dazed ass out. You go for the choke just to find yourself in an arm bar you miraculously survived... She has you there too... she has more weapons than you. That was something Georgia did not fathom and it fucked in the head... There is no doubt Georgia haf more talent across the board and they knew it. They knew LJH, CJ and Sam would all make some plays... They did not expect them to make plays at will... And there wasn't much they could adjust to, because they did not realize there are others on the Texas team that are very talented. Georgia came in motivated and planning on making a statement at Texas expense... you don't waste the time running your neck leading into the game if you don't care. They would've folded and gotten blown out if they their heart wasn't in it. Their issue was taking Texas serious. That was the problem the coaching staff had early in proctice. They never fixed that so Georgia came into the game believing their own hype... They planned on taking away our two recievers and slapping Sam down everytime he thought he was going to take off. They planned on running the ball down our throat over and over again... The Jokes during practice were probably golden... But thanks to ESPN, they competely forgot they did not blow out OU the prior year. Nor did they shut out OU. They completely missed or forgot this Texas team beat OU earlier in the year in what should have been a blowout. Another OU team lead by a Hiesman QB... The fact that this Texas defense showed it had the ability within itself to shut down an OU offense that was even better than the one that dropped 48 on them and almost beat them, or the Texas offense dropped virtually identical points in regular time on the OU defense their offense did the year prior should have been enough of a red flag to shake them out of their own mindfuck... Instead the Georgia defense came out knowing it was going to be the first of many 3 and outs in a long night for Texas. Instead Texas walked down the field at will on their defense that knew it wasn't caught flat footed. It wasn't because Texas hit a big play. Texas had just manhandled them and they were every bit as motivated as they were when they played Alabama... They didn't expect Texas to be very physical at all, much less be able to actually manhandle them... They didn't expect their cover guys to be little more than an annoyance to those two when catching or running with the ball... they expected to push our entire OL right into Sam's lap just to find they were being moved out of the way themselves. They were completely unprepared for Texas to throw the ball to any other person outside of our big two. None of them ever played against Tebow so the thought of a QB shrugging off the tackle, much less run them over time and time again was a "whatever" notion. And somehow the Georgia defense slept on us even having runningbacks on the roster. Everytime someone not named Sam carried the ball out of the backfield, they were slow to react as if the concept was unheard of. The Georgia offense had as high of expectations as the defense and suffered the same fate... They obviously thought "no defense" meant there wasn't going to be any Texas players on the field. Expecting one of the softest, weakest defenses of the P5s they faced all year, instead they ran into a Texas defense that was the stoutest one they had seen all year. They expected to Cleveland steamroll our DL, but ran into a buzzsaw of bodies every bit as strong as them I'm not saying our D is better than Bama's, but for Georgia it was that night. Their bread and butter power run was stuffed right out of the gate. They couldn't prevent bodies from pressuring the qb,. Their recievers expected to push our secondary around. instead our cover guys were more physical and stronger then they were, who had no issue laying a hit on them. From time to time a Georgia player would lay a good hit, trying to establish Georgia as the physical team, just to get it back (or his mates) 2fold a few plays later... Georgia's O was done when Texas stuffed their run game that first series... it wasn't a fluke that stopped them. It was a more physical Texas defense they did not have a clue existed... Just like their silly little doggy, they thought they were going to pet some cow just to find themselves trying to keep from getting murdered by a 1600 lb snorthing, ground shaking, belowing longhorned beast who decided it's had enough... Georgia will come out better for it and will take it out on aggy.12 points

The shutdown had an unintended effect today. My bride had enough with my #MAGA MIL. In 3 weeks, MIL has not even bothered to ask how this would affect us, our home, our children, etc. But, she has plenty of time to forward every email, meme, falsehood, etc. Today was the day that she went too far. She posted a meme (paraphrasing) on Facebook about how all government employees were non essential, that the government should be shutdown for years, Nancy Pelosi has a wall around her house and is a hypocrite, etc. Whatever she said (and my wife's retort) was bad enough that MIL either deleted her Facebook account or deactivated it, for I can't see it now. So, I'm going to break out my bottle of Gentlemen Jack in a bit and just sip for a while.11 points

I haven't sharpened my pencil, but I'm pretty sure that with the beating the itemized deduction took this year, I'm going to pay MORE in taxes. And I'm a pretty high earner (showing my pay stub, etc.). And here's the thing -- I don't mind paying more in taxes. I really don't. What I mind is that 1) I am paying more in taxes, 2) we the people aren't using those tax dollars to fix infrastructure, provide needed services, or even reduce the debt....but instead are 3) massively increasing our deficit and debt so that 4) people much richer than I am can keep more money in their pockets. That's pretty fucked up.10 points

I'm glad someone posted this. The reason we know that this is about an ego-driven "victory," and not any sound policy, is that the demand has simply been for money for the rhetorical device of "WALL!" If someone put up a map, and showed "we currently have physical barriers in the areas shown in yellow. We are currently having difficulty physically securing the areas shown in red, and have assessed and determined that additional physical barriers in those areas will help Border Patrol fulfill its mission. We are presently seeking only $5 billion to build a physical barrier in the areas shown in red that I am now highlighting." Make it an actual, tangible project that requires funding, as opposed to a moronic rhetorical device, and you could yank the rug right out from under the Dems. Because, articulated that way, a good number of us who are opposed to the pointless rhetorical device might actually be in favor of an appropriate for that limited purpose. Very few people say that physical barriers are entirely pointless -- they have value in certain areas, where they have certain visibility, work in concert with patrol efforts, etc. What we say is that a generic sea-to-shining-sea WALL! is pointless because (well, all the reasons that have been stated 10,000 times). Trump and the Trumpkins haven't done that. Why? Because it's not about any strategic border security initiative. It's about a stupid chant and a stupid base and a petulant toddler who has backed himself into a corner.10 points

That’s why, although I love having highly rated classes, I’m more concerned with the coaches getting the guys they want. I learned my lesson after Burton talked shit about LJH being a bad take and EJ talking shit about Rondale Moore in comparison to Waddle. Herman and his staff have proved themselves time and time again that they know wtf they’re doing in regards to evaluating talent.9 points

He also interrupts reporters asking questions. He usually ambushes them in their long, largely unnecessary preambles. Just hit him with, "Mr. President, who pays the tariffs that go into the treasury?" Boom. It sits in space until the dotard answers it. "Mr. President, who are our allies in Syria and what will become of them?" "Mr. President, what is your plan for private lands and the Rio Grande when the wall goes up? Where will the wall be placed in such cases?" They need to abandon the wind-up before the pitch. Just throw it.8 points
