  1. Simms sucked against OU, as did the rest of the offense every time we faced them during that era, and he choked against CU in the Big 12 Championship Game. But he was a hell of a QB at Texas, worked the aggies, was tough as hell, was huge in branding and recruiting, and didn’t deserve anything that happened to him from our fucking fan base. He also doesn’t deserve to be viewed as anything but a massive part of Texas being launched back into the forefront of the sport of college football. It fucking sucks that he won’t even speak publicly about his time at Texas.

  3. This shit is hilarious. These rubes and their incessant bitching about recruiting rankings. Consider: (1) individual player ratings are numeric figures, and nobody would argue that they actually entail any sort of real precision; (2) team rankings are basically the aggregate of individual player ratings...they may offer a bit more precision than individual player ratings because of the larger sample; (3) the entire purpose of recruiting rankings (besides selling them) is to give a general idea of which teams are getting the most talented future players; (4) thus, it could be reasoned that the only value in recruiting rankings (other than entertainment) is that they could be a component of forecasting future team success. Now...given that the only thing that recruiting rankings actually do is provide a data point that may be useful in forecasting future success...why in the actual fuck would anybody grouse over the ratings of a few individual players to the point of near delirium? If they are just venting because they believe so much in the ratings that the ascent of Texas up the chart has them convinced that Texas's future success is more assured, then I suppose I get why they are sour - they can't stand Texas success. But their actual complaints seem to be that the ratings of a few Texas kids are undeserved - which should not affect their moods because the only use of rankings are as data points for forecasting anyway, and bad data would lead to bad forecasts...so it shouldn't matter, and who bitches this much about things that they truly believe don't matter? They act like the recruiting ranking is the actual sport. Tail wagging the dog and what-not. Fucking fascinating weirdos.

  4. 58K divided by at least 12, probably closer to 16-18 Texas elections since 1996 (many years there are > 1 election, often in March or May, as well as November). Even just using 12 (the number of elections every 2 years, not even including odd-numbered years or > 1 election per year, and excludes 2018... i.e. this is very liberally figured to give the "most" non-US voter percentages, the actual figure is probably well towards even less), that's about 4,833 non-US citizens per year average, never mind > 1 election per year. That's barely out of the "human error" level. Texas had over 9 million registered voters in 1996 and now about 16 million. Even taking the average of about 12 million during this run, that's 0.04%. According to a few general human error tables I've seen, this type of task (reading within a page of text and following directions) has a general error rate of 0.02-0.06 percent of participants. One thing is for sure, that rate on average could not affect almost any Texas election since 1996. I'd have to go back and see if anything outside of local dog catcher with like 33 registered voters in Bumfucksville had a separation rate of 0.04 or less... my guess is zero zilch, but I guess one or two is possible. Point: hasn't affected shit. All this sounds like general dumbassery to me, just tracking people making mistakes. That ain't much, and certainly nothing with agenda written on it. Just people being human to me.

  7. 8. Why are they scheduling teams from our conference, but we are not scheduling teams from their conference? Because Texas isn't afraid of putting the "SEC > Big 12" narrative to the test, and aggy is specifically terrified of doing that?

  9. He dropped all his classes before the deadline, correct? So in their records, Bru will never have been a student at all. It will show he was accepted, but that is it. Also, he did not use his college transcripts to transfer to UT. We accepted him using his high school qualifications. He really isn't a transfer at all. It will be total bullshit if he has to sit

  11. Can we just all agree to not post EJ's 7 on 7 stuff or make its own thread for it? I generally loathe people who thread police and want to make a new thread for everything, but EJ's 7 on 7 shit is so regarded and just utterly abhorrent, that we would all be much better off not having to see that shit when we click on the 2020 thread. This dude is a fucking pathetic shill for the guys Ro wants to pimp on top of being worse at evaluating prospects than literally anyone not named Spider2YBanana. I know, for one, this thread will be much, much more enjoyable without having to see EJ's 7 on 7 bullshit all offseason.

  12. I never hear anyone talk about this situation from the perspective of the student athlete. Until we drop the charade and start paying players, they should be as free to move b/t schools as any other student. Giving them a schollie does not make them chattel. If a kid gets a schollie for playing tuba at Texas but decides they hate Austin or can’t make the grades, do they get punished or kicked out of band if they decide to transfer to Tech? I realize that as fans, this whole free agency-style situation is frustrating and scary, but college sports aren’t supposed to be for us. They’re supposed to be about the students. These kids should be free to pursue their education (and sport) however they see fit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. I don’t GAF bout the murals or any of that shit. It’s the $22 for a gotdamn roasted chicken that gets my goat. Fucking hipsters think that if they slap enough adjectives on something (“slow roasted, individually curated, free-range, Slappy Creek farmed, Rock Island Red hens”) they can double the price. $22 chickens. $5 tacos. Fuck that shit. I’m going to Pollo Regio.

  14. Fair warning, this is a bit long. But it exemplifies all things Aggie. So the Macanudo-ettes had a lacrosse tournament in College Station this weekend. Didn't want to go but, hey, I'm a good dad so we made our plans. Teams were assigned by the tournament director to area hotels and we drew the short straw: The Texas A&M Conference Center & Hotel. It's everything you think it is and more. The bar is named The Block T after the dumbass Corps Band's "special maneuver" that leaves the Aggie faithful breathless. The snack bar is called Junction Market. Right on Campus, directly across from Kyle Field. Major awesome rates of $299 a night for non-conference games and $399 a night for conference ones. But I digress. As we pulled out town on Friday, we got a reminder via text that check-in begins at 4:00 but if we weren't going to be there by 7:00 we needed to let them know so they could keep out reservation. WTF? Ever been to a hotel that has a 3 hour window for check-in before you have to worry about losing your room? Not me. We made it to the hotel about 6:45 and the clusterfuck was on. There were two option for parking; Valet at $24 a day or self park for the hourly rate. Based on where the closest self-park garage was and a significant chance of rain on Saturday, valet seemed the way to go. We pull up to the hotel and it's on what amounts to a dead end. One way in and one way out. And probably 20 people waiting to valet. We had team function to get to so I unloaded everything we needed for the night and told the valet dude that I'd be right back. They only had two guys parking cars so there was no way they'd get to me before we checked in and got back down from the rooms. Check in was surprisingly smooth except for the $200 a night "incidentals" hold they wanted. Sure, no problem. I wasn't planning on stealing any towels or sheep. Got to the rooms and was greeted with this in the entry: Floor to ceiling memorializing all that is Aggie. And it was in every room right inside the door. We put our stuff down and then I looked over above the bed and saw this: It's a 12' by 5' photo a Ring Dance from the late 40s or early 50s. Every room on the 7th floor had pictures like it. Some were on in pairs at 5' by 5'. And every floor had a different theme. I shudder to think that there might be a milk man theme on a floor. I bet Rick Perry asks for that floor. We went to dinner and then came back to sack out. Then I saw this over on the table: A whole book praising Jackie Sherill and the 12th Man experiment that started in 1984. These fuckers still glorify that cheating SOB. Just unbelievable. I decided to take a shower because we had an early game and got to see this: How many Aggies have rubbed one out in these rooms and deposited their deformed sperm on that handle? As I got ready for bed, there was one more thing to catch my eye: It's not just that the train comes every 2-3 hours. Anyone who's been to a game at Olsen knows how these knuckle draggers cream themselves when it goes through. They just fucking love it. And they built a hotel right along Wellbourn without sufficient noise reduction to prevent waking people up at night. And wake me it did. At midnight and 3 am both nights. So flash forward to Saturday morning. Had to have the girls at the fields for an 8:00 am game which really means being there at 7:00 for warmups. We were told that breakfast was complimentary in the dining room. Oh, it was. Just not the buffet or full menu. A small table was set up with some bran muffins, a couple of bananas and apples and some juice. Yeah, that's great fuel for day of running around. The alternative? Either the buffet that cost $22 (after tax) or $8-12 menu items. After mulling our choices we ordered from the menu. By the time our food came, several others teams had arrived en masse and were discovering the same thing. A couple of moms were pissed and letting the staff know. There was a brief, frenzied huddle by the restaurant staff and then an announcement that the buffet was open to lacrosse players and their families. I was staring at an $8 yogurt parfait with fruit. My kids were already chowing down on their eggs and bacon and potatoes. So we finished and went on our way. The tournament proceeded but it was time to get some lunch. As I walked to my car, I realized that there was a shit ton of traffic. We were right across the street from Reed Arena and the Aggie had a 1:00 pm game vs. K-State. Now all the parking required payment. No big deal, it was only $5. But now our lot was closed to entry and I end up about 3 blocks away. Did I mention that it was in the 40s with a 10-12 mph wind? Yeah that was fun. We finish up the day and head back to the hotel to clean up. I valet again because we have about 90 minutes. When we're ready to go, I call down to get the car. I waited a few minutes because I knew there was some kind of function going on in one of the large conference rooms. By the time we get downstairs, the car is parked on the street. I walk over to get in and my key fob isn't there. I go back to the valet stand ask where it is. None of them had any idea. It was just gone. Well this is fucking great. Fortunately, I had the other one in my room. I tell the staff "Find that key, now." I talk to the valet manager and he says they'll look. When we get back from dinner, still no key fob. Valet manager is gone for the night. I go inside and ask for the manager on duty. Some snot nosed kid with a name tag that say "Idiot Aggie '19" comes out and says he's the manager on duty. Are you fucking kidding me? A senior in college is the manager? He proceeds to tell me that this is a valet issue and I need to take it up with them. WTF? It's your hotel dipshit. But after I tell him the valet manager is gone for the night and that this is unacceptable, he says that they will keep looking. That's just great. I decide to head up to the bar. There's a open chair at the bar so I sit down. Nice bar, plenty of seating and they are maybe 50% full. There are 3 bartenders and they are all running around the bar like chickens with their heads cut off. One of them is trying to make what looks like a martini but he started over twice. Another one is pouring beer from a tap and making a huge mess. As one of them swings by my end of the bar, a rather drunk woman asks for another martini. Bartender tells her that they're out of Tito's. She asks for Grey Goose. Also out. Eventually they figured out what they had. Another woman asked for Michelob Ultra. Also out. By this point, I'd been there 5 minutes or so and just gave up. We find out this morning that the key fob still hasn't been located. I tell the staff, I'll be back after the morning games and check out then. After a heated argument about whether I should pay for for the valet parking, they finally took it off my bill and had me fill out some forms to get their insurance company involved to cover the loss. Long story short, Aggies can fuck up anything.

  16. For them, it is. This is the only way they can "measure" themselves compared to Texas. Their self-loathing and crippling insecurity is on full display here and is driving this hilarious shit show. They are so fucking desperate for the country to see them as an elite football program, that they will grasp onto any inkling of something they can spin as proof of their status as such. There is no fan base in the WORLD that celebrates meaningless "victories" as early and often as the Texas a$m aggy. #PimpCane

  18. FYI, they’ve been on Wilson and like their shot if they can get him on campus. Also, I agree with the logic earlier from folks around how you get to 23/25 scholarships, but they’re not actively going to be trapdooring people. They like the roster. The other thing is that some teams are going to figure out how to make the transfer portal a competitive advantage. If Texas is one of them, and my guess is they’re going to work the shit out of that thing, they’re going to need scholarship space to add sophomores and juniors. The inherently advantaged blue bloods like Texas, USC, Michigan and their ilk, if they have their shit together, will be drafting in guys that are kicking ass at smaller schools and looking to upgrade. Something new to consider in all of this.

  21. Good to see lots of idiots still believe the bullshit that was floated about Simms while he was here. Here's a fact for you guys, Major Applewhite told me to my face he would have started Simms over himself if he had been coaching. Of course that anecdote has now gained another layer of entertainment given Applewhite's coaching failures.

  22. It was during the early era of the internet recruiting services boom, Texas showing life after a 15 year snooze and Simms was the most recognizable name in the country (Phil's kid, USA Today Offensive POY, #1 recruit). Tennessee was the defending NC & QBU of the 90's with Heath Shuler, Manning & Tee Martin. Phil wanted his son there and Simms committed to Tennessee in mid December. Most didn't consider Texas as a team that was in the final mix, these were the days when you'd look at the final top 100 national kids and hope more than one or two showed up that chose the Horns. As the weeks rolled by, inside rumors were creeping that Simm's wasn't sold on the Vols (helicopter pressure) & couldn't get the idea of playing Texas out of his mind. Rumors picked up steam and the sources became more confident and the Cinderalla recruitment finally came to fruition.. the effect in my opinion was second only in celebration to the 2005 NC. In effect, Mack and Ricky gave us legit hope for the future in '98, but pulling Simms was a shout across the landscape of national CFB. The residual effects are undeniable, feelings for Simms aside.. he's a big part of our history. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1999/01/26/Simms-changes-from-Tennessee-to-Texas/3691917326800/

  24. |imagine Texas with a regular path to the CFP and team built to beat SEC powerhouses? Keep going. I’m almost there. The SEC doesn’t scare me. It’s becoming abundantly clear that SEC teams are built to beat SEC team, shitty ones at that, and shitty SEC teams that have large talent gaps compared to the ones that have talent, can just bully SEC shit teams. when SEC teams come up against ones with equal talent and drive a la Texas v. Georgia they can be beat handily. (Sorry if that paragraph is all stupid. I’m drunk at a Carlsbad laundromat, WHOOO SUNDAYS).

  29. Had to bump this thread, even though this has nothing to do with the topic. This morning, I drove to San Antonio to pick up the 1986 Honda Fourtrax 70 for little homesick. When the guy walked me out to the shed and opened the door, I was taken aback at how much work needed to be done on it. He wanted $50 for it, and before I could say anything, or haggle about the price, I saw this on the back fender. Two days after Xmas in 1986, I rode my bike up to the Kirkwood Foodmart in Houston, to buy this sticker with my own money, so I could put it on my brand new 1986 Honda Fourtrax 70.

  32. There are plenty of white-owned businesses in San Antonio and south of here that do shit like this to try and appeal to hispanic customers. I've always thought it was cool. I guess because my parents told me about times back in the day where businesses actively tried to deter hispanic customers or make them feel unwelcome. How could you not be happy to see the opposite of that nowadays? For example this is one of my favorite commercials of all time:

  33. Being a good person is absolutely a part of being the head coach at Texas. Wtf are you talking about? Charlie’s couldn’t win games to save his life, and was rightfully fired for it. That said dude generally recruited well and kept us out of scandals during a time when Baylor allowed rape and aggy had a drunk at the helm. Nobody here believed the cheating allegations when Charlie was our coach, the same way we ignored the allegations against Herman. Are you going to switch up if Herman starts to suck? My point is this, Charlie failed to perform and was let go because of it. If we want to bag on his coaching skills, cool, but to attack him as a person is grade school bullshit and below us. If this makes me a “Charlie apologist” what does hating on the man who no longer works here make you?

  37. Charlie’s main problem is his sub 80 IQ. He’s a fucking retard. And the worst coach in our long history by far. I have no idea if he’s a nice guy. He seems to take no responsibility for the dumpster fire teams he fields and instead throws the assistants he hires under the bus while also blaming the players. Also he appeared to be cheating on his wife with some rich boosters wife at Louisville

  38. It seems like it’s becoming a characteristic of this country to be dishonest with ourselves when it comes to things we care deeply about. Charlie was a horrible coach. In literally every way. He was obviously out of his league and chosen simply because he was not Saban. It was a simple mistake because of ego, desperation and hubris. Let’s accept it and move on. He’s South Florida’s problem now.

  39. OK, I'm going to put something out there I probably shouldn't. I received $3.5mm from a negligence lawsuit against an equipment manufacturer when I was injured. If ANYONE thinks for one minute that is was worth it, they are beyond stupid. Do you think for a second that the money made one damned bit of difference? Hell no. I'd give $350mm to have had my health and leg back these past 22 years. Do you have any idea that all these years later I still have nightmares about the accident and find myself jumping out of bed screaming trying to get off the machine before I got crushed. Or how many damned things I was unable to do with my eight grandchildren over the years? Hell, I missed my oldest granddaughters birth because I was still in the hospital from the accident. I've seen and heard a lot of opinions and thoughts about catastrophic injuries over the years, but GD some guys take the fucking cake.
