Thought I’d throw out an update for those who are interested: Ben’s now a little over 19 months. He. Is. A. Bad. Ass. He’s been attending a Mother’s Day Out program at a local church, and the ladies that manage the room love him. Unfortunately, he’s very susceptible to respiratory infections and has been through the RSV crap a few times. We’ve been pretty lucky so far with only one hospitalization over the last year. We’ve had to put him on oxygen at home at night probably 4 times over the last year (about a week on O2 for each instance). It’s a hell of a process, and usually involves duct tape so he can’t pull the nasal cannula out while he’s sleeping. The main reason for the tape is to keep him from bending his arms so he can’t reach his face. Very thankful for the NICU nurse that gave us the pro tip. The coolest thing is that Ben is now starting to sign a bunch. He’s got a few of them down pat, which is awesome. He’s also starting to talk a little bit. Last week I got in the car to go to lunch with my wife and Ben, who was in the back seat. I got in and totally got an excited “DADDA!” Unfortunately, my wife was chopping onions in the car for some damn reason... Ben’s still doing physical therapy every week. He isn’t crawling or walking yet, but damn if the kid can’t butt scoot around with the best of them. He’s also doing a great job of feeding himself and is doing great with his cup and drinking. So far we’ve continued to be very blessed with his health, with no significant health issues. I am continually amazed by the kindness of strangers we run into. Ben waves at just about everyone who makes eye contact, and it’s amazing how many people wave back and stop and coo at him. So, still a lot to figure out in the long run, but things are going fantastically well, and I’m so proud of our little guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk14 points

The basis of our Great Experiment is a principled, rational approach towards governing. If you find that kind of thing cumbersome and unnatural, perhaps you should re-evaluate why you hold political opinions, or participate in our government at all. I'll take you at your word that you'd be better off than most other Americans in the next few years ahead, because it doesn't matter. First, you are admitting here that you don't actually care about the welfare of other Americans. I don't mean our entitlement program, I mean the concept. Welfare. Public. You don't give a shit about other Americans. That's why you responded the way you did. What you don't realize: America only works when Americans give a shit about each other. It dies when we don't. It's that simple. You don't want a United States of America. Second, you are not thinking long term. For instance, you will probably be alive in 20 years. What will America look like then? Are you crossing your fingers, somehow hoping that even if America is worse off under Trump's ilk, you will still wind up ahead because of your family situation? You should go read some books and get some perspective on life.13 points

My son's best buddy from age 4-7 died of brain cancer. He had to wear a helmet all the time and a lot of the kids gave him shit over it. My son asked if he could have a cool helmet like his buddy, and they were inseparable. Anyway, when he passed the service was at St. Martin's Lutheran. I really didn't want to go, obviously, and my son still didn't quite understand that his buddy was gone for good. He had been in the hospital quite a bit for the last few weeks and we weren't sure if my son understood that his friend was gone. The Pastor at St Martin's gave the most amazing sermon I've ever heard. Somehow he made the kids understand that their friend had moved on to a place where hospitals and helmets weren't necessary. That was many years ago. I don't remember what he said, but I do remember that parents and children left the service with a true sense of closure. I can't explain what a comfort that was. Obviously I can't comprehend what the boy's parents were going through, and I can't imagine that the service was anything more than a motion they had to go through, and that's absolutely understandable. But for my son and me, and many others, I think the wisdom of his words were absolutely perfect at a time of sadness and uncertainty. I think your wife will find those words. They may not perfect, but if sincere and heartfelt her words will resonate with an audience searching for any shred of hope amidst the unspeakable tragedy of the death of a child.11 points

My understanding is that part of the agenda tomorrow evening calls for a coked-up Jimbo Fisher to appear as the lights dim, wearing only a silk robe. It’s at this point in which Jerry Schmidt is going to wheel out a real doll that looks like Fisher’s ex-wife Candi. Fisher is then going to violently fuck her in front of the recruiting party in order to prove to everybody once and for all that he’s a real man. ht to HenryJames on the heads up.7 points

There are four Star Wars movies: 1. Star Wars 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. Return of the Jedi 4. Rogue One Everything else is garbage and, as far as I’m concerned, never happened. And if some millennial motherfucker squeals that I left off “A New Hope,” I’m going to fucking lose it. The movie is called “Star Wars” and it doesn’t have some pathetic CGI slug begging Han Solo for money.6 points

To be fair, other than Trump’s national security adviser, personal attorney, campaign chairman, deputy campaign chairman, longtime political adviser, and coffee boy; all the indictments were Russians.6 points

Got a wife and kid in Baltimore Jack, I went out for a ride and I never went back. We met as soulmates on Paris Island, we left as inmates, from an asylum. It’s Nine O’Clock on a Saturday, the regular crowd shuffles in It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside. I’m a running down the road trying to loosen my load, got seven women on my mind. On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair, one smell of colitas rising up through the air I can feel it coming in the air tonight.. oh lord.4 points

You’re one of my favorite basketball posters, so please don’t be offended, but you shouldn’t post during the game. I’ll read this thread a lot of times before even checking the scores. I always think you guys have lost and then I check the score and you’ve won by 5+. You’re the ISU version of our Jonk.4 points

I feel no sense of validation in having confirmed my suspicions of the depravity of some right-wing folks in their attitudes towards brown people. I can only hope that their reign of terror will end and their former right-leaning masters put them back in their place. The GOP establishment should remember this dark time and use their dog whistles more sparingly until they do not resonate at all.4 points

1/3 - 255 1/31 - 244 No sodas, no potato chips, no bread since first post (that was my goal). Eating lots of protein. Still probably getting too many carbs, but I don't want to not be able to eat an orange or banana. I fluctuate quite a bit and 243 had been the low that can't get under, but I'm trending in the right direction, and I do feel better. Wish me luck.4 points
