Commandancy of the The Alamo Bejar, Feby. 24th. 1836 To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World- Fellow Citizens & compatriots- I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death. William Barret Travis. Lt. Col.comdt. P. S. The Lord is on our side - When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn - We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels and got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves. I can do the next 5 pages of this thread in one post: Poster One: "I hate the post office whenever I go there they fail to address me with deference and tell me I have to put an address on the box then they LOSE IT every time!" [x100 posters] Poster Two: [putting down pipe after thoughtful pause] "I don't know, Old Bean, I've shipped 14,000 package via the USPS, and they get there quite promptly, sometimes even a day before I mail them." [x 5 posters] Poster Three: "I delivered a package to your mom."7 points

Short version - scholastic suspension for excessive and sustained awesomeness resulted in me involuntarily leaving college. Wealthy friend’s mother got me a job sailing on a tall ship in January of 1996. I had sailed a lot but never anything made of wood. Mostly racing small boats. I had some good fortune - deckhand on tallship turned into deckhand on tallship sailing a goodwill tour for the Boston beer company. 420 cases of SA loaded on board - head to Bristol without delay. beer parties in England, Ireland, Holland, France and Spain for May- October of 1996. if youve watched Master and Commander you’ve seen the HMS Surprise. Before that it was named HMS Rose and was my ride for that year. https://web.archive.org/web/19980623184446/http://www.tallshiprose.org/log/status0596.html5 points

Weirdness is not one poster. Weirdness is the collective. The Surly's weirdness is as if you opened up a bee hive, and all the bees had started wearing shells, as if they were hermit crabs. But those weren't shells, they were little Lego people heads the bees were wearing on their own heads, And you reach your gloved hand in the hive to lift out one Lego-head-wearing bee, and you see that it started as a Lego head, but the bees have altered it to look like a portrait of your great-grandmother who passed away when you were three. And all the bee's Lego-heads have your great-grandmother's face, she is smiling at you, and the bees are humming, and forming a pattern, a pattern that starts to make sense...5 points

Dear Wally, Because the Alamo had walls, less than 200 brave Texicans, (some by birth, some by choice, but Texicans all), held out for two weeks against a much larger and continuously reinforced and resupplied force some ten times their numbers. Without those walls, they would not have lasted a day. Sam Houston wouldn't have had those two weeks to evacuate the civilians and collect and train the forces that would decimate Santa Ana's forces a few weeks later at San Jacinto. I suspect you're right in your inference that any wall, no matter how well constructed will permanently prevent a determined invasion, but it might buy us some time. Bet you thought Jussie was hate-crimed too didn't you? Sincerely, Also Surly5 points

Those are the words of the President of the United States of America about a known pederast. In any other administration this would be the biggest scandal to hit them over 4/8 years. Doesn't even raise eye brows with this swamp thing motherfucker. Somebody end this god damn sim.5 points

It is not. Drugs are drugs. Prostitutes are people. Think about this for two seconds. If prositution is legalized, there will be a lot more dudes wanting the service than there are ladies to provide that service. Sure, some women would be ready and willing to be hookers, but most women would not. Therefore, human trafficking would happen to satiate the demand. Again, these are real people. Not inanimate objects. This is not comparable to drugs for that reason. Source, btw: https://orgs.law.harvard.edu/lids/2014/06/12/does-legalized-prostitution-increase-human-trafficking/4 points

https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/open-letter-new-york-state-budget-director-robert-mujica-regarding-amazon "Make no mistake, at the end of the day we lost $27 billion, 25,000-40,000 jobs and a blow to our reputation of being 'open for business.' The union that opposed the project gained nothing and cost other union members 11,000 good, high-paying jobs. The local politicians that catered to the hyper-political opposition hurt their own government colleagues and the economic interest of every constituent in their district. The true local residents who actually supported the project and its benefits for their community are badly hurt. Nothing was gained and much was lost. This should never happen again."4 points

If you have never gone down to the Alamo late at night and stood in the Plaza is quiet and sparsely populated. You should. You should also try and visualize the whole "fort" outline and realize how insane it was that give or take 187 men held out for as long as they did.4 points

The thing about Buttigieg that really irks me is his age. It's not a big deal but the idea of a Millennial being elected before a Gen-Xer just runs me the wrong way. Going from a series of Boomer Presidents to a Millennial President as if the latch key generation is still at home by themselves is a bit fucked up. Anyways, Beto 2020! Generation-X is assuming control, then we will kill off the Boomers and lock up the Millennials. Fucking Millennials.4 points

Also I forgive and love every single person who gets out of prison because they have served their time and are white and just stole some money and I have plenty of money so really they have repaid their debt to society. I'd buy them a beer and dinner and let them fuck my wife if I run into them on the street. Why just the other day I ran into Brock Turner (the Stanford swimmer rapist) and I shook his hand and told him how proud I was of him and that he had repaid his debt to society by serving those 6 months for rape.4 points
