In the early days of the space program, NASA sent a monkey and an Aggie into orbit. Each were trained to obey an order when their light came on. Green for the monkey, purple for the Aggie. The rocket launches, on comes the green light. "Disengage booster." The monkey throws two switches and pushes several buttons in sequence. The booster separates. Moments later, the green light comes on. "Disengage capsule." Again the monkey flawlessly executes the disengagement. The Aggie gets impatient. The green light goes on. "Deploy solar screens." Same thing. Monkey executes deployment. Aggie gets on the radio. "Houston, this is the Aggie. What am I supposed to do?' "Aggie, Houston capcom. Standby." Thirty minutes pass. The purple light comes on. "Aggie you are go to feed the monkey."8 points

I want to hear "he's not being impeached over 'a call'. He's being impeached for numerous abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and emoluments clause violations. Also bribery and extortion. Maybe some treason, if repeatedly siding with Putin over America qualifies as treason. Basically for running a criminal enterprise in the white house, and selling out our country for his personal gain. 'The call' is one tiny part of all of that."7 points

I disagree. Republicans have played to win by pushing the conversation further and further to the right and refusing to compromise for decades. It's always Democrats compromising, which is why so many in the country think centrist/center right Democrats like Obama and Clinton are far left. If the conversation starts at M4A, we may likely end up with your wish for a public option. If the conversation starts at a public option, we're going to end up with nothing. The affordable care act started with a public option and Democrats compromised it out. Hillary did not lose because of left wing views that turned off independents. She lost because she had a decades long smear campaign against her and didn't have the personality to overcome it. But by all means, let's nominate another center, corporate democrat with vague platitudes who will get little done to move the country towards progress while Republicans regroup post Trump and retake big majorities. The time to be bold is now when you have the most divisive president hated by a majority of people.7 points

It's clearer and clearer that this conspiracy extends back to Flynn and Manafort long before Trump took office. Throw in Jared's back channels, emerging stories about withholding Javelin missiles (Maddow on Friday showed tape of a congressman pointing to this) to halt the investigation in Ukraine that would have destroyed Manafort and involves $2b in corruption, Giulianni's involvement in that earlier manipulation and ongoing back channel relations with Ukraine, and how that changed when the old corrupt president of Ukraine was defeated by Selensky and Trump's call was about trying to keep the same game going; it all adds up to a devastating story of corruption top to bottom between the White House and Ukraine that ends with the famed call. As the story emerges, I don't think that the GOPs or Trump will be able to guide the narrative anymore. It's just too big. This is the biggest scandal in American history. Most of our big scandals are at least kept within the borders. This is conspiracy with foreign elements which, if they can positively link Russia as well, could include actual enemies of the US as they act against the US. The GOPs are already reduced to absurd theater in their last ditch to try to survive. Impeachment is unconstitutional! We're not allowed to go to the hearings that we're allowed to go to! Look only at the abridged "transcript" there is nothing else to see! The desperation will be enough to hold on to the GOPs that wear their team's jerseys to weddings, the office, and funerals. It won't be enough to prevent 60% of the people to turn angrily against them. The big question then will be whither the Trumpists? Oblivion or back with vengeance? People on Brisket's ledge are dying to know. Me, too.6 points

Today marks a year since we lost our daughter Sloane at 8 months due to an umbilical cord issue. I vented here and you all were absolutely amazing. I’m extremely grateful. This last year has been hard. Really hard. In some delusion, I thought the men must be strong and stoic. That anything else showed weakness. So I bottled everything and kept everything I was feeling inside. Friends and family started to notice I was off. Antidepressants didn’t work. Hell, they probably made it worse. I was spiraling. Panic attacks so bad I couldn’t be in crowds. It was hard to get out of bed. Then I had a dear friend go to the web and bear his soul and tell of the horrors he faced as a child. So, I figure if he can do it so can I. I started opening my soul. Instant relief. I’m trying to be an open book. That delusion of “men must be strong and stoic” is just that, a delusion. I pushed family and friends away for 18 months. I missed a lot, but am finally ready to catch up. If any of you all are going through tough times, DM me. There is strength in numbers. I’ll listen and share my story. I’ve learned that if I help just one person, my struggle will have been worth it. If you all would send some T&P for the wife and I today, we would be eternally grateful.5 points

Need to up my homemade pizza game. I know if I made everything from scratch, it would help. But that also adds a ton to the effort. One of the great things about homemade pizza is that it can take very little effort. Pre-made crust, jar sauce, shredded cheese, and some basic ingredients is super easy and still results in better than about 95% of what I can get delivered. Decided to try a little bit of a hybrid this time. Went to the local Italian grocer for quality ingredients. But, rather than making everything from scratch, I still used jar sauce and got a ball of frozen dough. Biggest complaint is the dough was really really dense. Is there a secret to this or was it just that particular dough? Moved the frozen dough to the refrigerator the night before then put it on the counter the morning of the night I made it. I'm feeling like it let it sit and rise too long or not enough or something? Rolling the dough was the hardest part. I couldn't get it perfectly round and the thickness seemed pretty inconsistent. Tried twirling it in the air once and all that did was crumple it up and fling flour all over the kitchen (wife was thrilled). Not to mention, I didn't have a cookie sheet big enough even if I could have gotten it round. So, I guess the oblong shape ended up okay. Poked some holes in it with a fork, brushed it with some olive oil, and pre-baked it for about 7 minutes at 450. What's the best stone or sheet to use in a regular oven? And what are the tricks to getting it more evenly tossed? Sauce was fine. It was some old Italian grandma's sauce, probably jarred in Jersey or some shit, so it wasn't like crappy Ragu from the grocery store or anything. I'd like to make it myself next time. Any homemade sauce recs? Extra cheese. Pretty hard to fuck this step up. Half pepperoni and ricotta, half pepperoni and Italian sausage. The quality ingredients really elevated things, especially the sausage. Did the toppings on top of the cheese then sprinkled just a little more cheese on top of the toppings. Is there a surly ruling on cheese over toppings or toppings over cheese? Baked about 15 minutes at 450. Other than the not nearly flaky enough, way too dense dough, turned out pretty damn good. I'd eat it again. Whatcha got, surly? I think there was a whole thread about it on TOS, but I'm not going back there to find out.4 points

uh, hello...it's a place DESIGNED to be loud and raucous. Every BWW commercial ever aired is basically, "hey come to BWW a where all we do is slam beers, scream, jump up and down, and chest bump total strangers while watching football." but yeah, telling someone to expect loud noises in that establishment = "fuck you i'll tell you what's what." give me a break.4 points

Well, they are the only 2 loss B12 team, so yeah. The imbalanced schedules in some conferences along with piles of awful bottom feeders really have some misleading records. I see people wanting Indiana ranked. They haven't beaten a team in the Top 50 of FPI this season. In Sagarin, SEVEN B12 teams would be the 2nd best ACC team. Five B1G teams would be the 2nd worst team in the B12 (well Rutgers would be the worst). Five ACC teams would be the 2nd worst team in the B12 (well Ga Tech would be the worst). The B12 teams have to play a top 30 team 70% of the time, while teams like Minn and Indy have fattened up on teams outside the top 50 entirely. And b/c of the parity, the B12 teams stay just out of the rankings, making the schedule look much easier than it is.4 points

The decline of NASCAR is due to a number of factors, many of which have been addressed already. But the cars aren't "safer" as someone mentioned, so much as they have become a lot easier to drive. Less horsepower, more grip/downforce, and an increasing involvement of aerodynamics has made the racing less exciting. Same goes for the frequency of races at 1.5 mile "cookie cutter" tracks where the racing tends to be boring (and which NASCAR generally has an ownership/partnership interest in) and the fact even most of the drivers who do have an actual personality are discouraged from displaying any of it that might upset their precious sponsors. It's a complex, multivariate problem for the sport, and the sport's ruling family has been ill equipped to make proactive decisions for a decade or more after the founder died. As a NASCAR fan that would lustily boo Trump until hoarse if ever given the opportunity, I can say that while the crowd as a whole is every bit as Deplorable as you might imagine, it's not a perfect Venn diagram of despicability and ignorance as some have assumed. I'm in a fantasy league (going strong for more than a decade now) with three lawyers (including one at a BigLaw white shoe firm), two PhDs, a consultant of some sort with multiple postgraduate degrees, a small business owner, a radiologist, a "government analyst" that hasn't been clear with any of us about his job duties for 15+ years, among a few other reasonably intelligent people. The only Trumper in the group is a middle manager of a large engineering firm, and he's an incurable redneck at heart - the rest of us would definitely boo.4 points

We hired an arrogant head coach with 2 years of experience that was coming off a 4 loss season at a G5 school. We were scared of missing out on the next Urban Meyer. The guy was given unlimited resources and was given the option of hiring whomever he wanted. He brought over most of his G5 coaches and combined them with failed coordinators in Beck and Mehringer. One whom was fired and the other who was the play caller for the last ranked offense in college football at Rutgers. All of our coordinators have no fucking business calling plays at a premier program like Texas. We saw these weaknesses last year and rather than making changes like a good CEO would, he doubled down on them because his ego is too big to admit he was wrong. If we regress this year, CDC has to step in show Herman what happens to staff that fail miserably at their jobs. Next year is the make or break year for me with Herman. The entire roster will be his recruits with a senior QB that will have Heisman potential. If he cannot win this shit ass conference with his recruits, his coaches, and a senior QB, then he needs to be shown the door.4 points

Beto did the right thing. Other dem candidates should read the writing on the wall and drop out. If you’re polling a few pct points, your chance of winning is zero. Better to get out now than waste yours and other time for another 3 Months. im sure candidates are told by advisors that it’s relatively low risk to your future options by staying in, but they should stop bilking their true believers for an impossible task.3 points

2 things. People don’t win the Purple Heart. I question the patriotism of General Flynn and believe there is evidence to support my position. Serving in the military does not mean one is above question especially when compared to actions which demonstrate other motivations. I do not believe Dan Crenshaw is a patriot. He may have been a badass soldier, but his support of a political party that seeks to weaken the US both domestically and abroad, indicates to me that he doesn’t understand or give a shit about the Constitution of these United States, nor does he give a shit about upholding it.3 points

All this talk of pinto beans made me hungry. Franklin’s recipe and 1.5 (~ 3/4c each) cups of chopped leftover brisket and pork shoulder. The pork adds another layer of flavor. Started simmering @ 9am after an overnight soak in 8c water, 1/2c seasoning, and 1c finely diced onion. Coming along nicely after 5 hrs. Plan on letting the liquid reduce a bit further, to a rich almost gravy-like consistency. Skillet cornbread is in my future as well.3 points
