Heading to the in-laws for three days tomorrow morning. We used to go thanksgiving and Christmas but I have managed to reduce it down. It’s always a minor disaster with some really obnoxious people. Let’s meet the cast of characters so that the play by play will be easier later. Wife: seeing her family is very important to her. She will also start bitching about how we are surrounded by lunatics within the first 30 minutes. When it’s time for another visit she will have somehow forgotten. She tries to appease MIL, which is an impossible task. Only sibling worth a shit because she left and never went back. MIL: Very domineering personality. She’s really weird and also very controlling so we always get roped into bizarre things. She’s very judgmental towards everyone, but nobody else is allowed to be the same way toward a family member or she will snap at you. She is a very picky eater but controls the menu. We are having a rib roast but she will not touch anything unless it’s burned to shit. Instead of having all of our food ruined (again) I’m getting FIL to cut her off an end piece to turn into smoldering shoe leather. 100% chance of a story about her coming up. FIL: really nice guy and a good cook of traditional food but has a really narrow window of what he deems acceptable. Really just a narrow world view that’s getting worse by the year, thanks largely to Fox News. He does his best to keep the peace but will not get in the way of MIL at any cost. 5% chance of a story BIL: He is MIL’s perfect angel who can do no wrong. She talks shit about all her friends kids and adores him. BIL is in his 30s and lives at home. He’s not a bad guy, just makes poor life choices and is an overall waste of potential because he is so coddled. He has never had to face any real world consequences. I will find out about yet another thing they are doing for him in the next few days. They don’t trust him to do anything on his own because he will screw it up...but he never has the opportunity to learn. He drinks too much and has made a scene before. He also likes to invite trashy women who he meets at bars over for Christmas dinner. They also make a scene sometimes. He was immediately pulled aside and told “she’s not the one” by MIL last year. 70% chance of a story Wildcard: any chick BIL brings over. 100% of a story if one comes. Last years girl brought her daughter who was calling BIL “daddy”. Several near heart attacks in the room. SIL: was really batshit crazy in her earlier years and put the family through hell. Never did anything to better herself but latched on to an upper middle class guy. Hasn’t worked a day in at least 10 years, even before she had kids. The family pretends that nothing bad ever happened with her. She has the same personality as MIL and they butt heads a lot. She will have kids with her that she won’t parent. 50% chance of a story. 100% chance of yelling and bitching about stuff. Family friends that come over: all old, all trumpkins that have weird obsessions. 100% chance of bitching about gays, Muslims, scammers, Hollywood, liberals, etc. Prediction: first update will be MIL freaking out about something nonsensical and driving everybody crazy by 6:00 tomorrow evening.19 points

This is why I think Vince's national championship game is the most dominant performance by a college football player in history. An all-time great team had 3 weeks to prepare for him and he pretty much did whatever felt good at the time. The 4th and 5 play was the epitome of that. USC shut down the whole designed play almost instantly and Vince just said lol, kthnxbye14 points

Things could happen, but also, they might not happen, it depends. If they do, then it could be great, but at the same time if they do not, then it might not be as great. One thing is for sure: we will see.13 points

I thought for sure I wouldn't have anything to add this year with my parents passed away, the in-laws 6000 miles away and us not going anywhere near the crazy part of my family. Just found out a relative who lives in Chicago decided to come down to Texas despite his sister and parents telling him not to due to his Mom's medical issues. In addition to coming uninvited, at some point in the last day or two his wife left him and ran off with the kids. Merry Christmas everybody.12 points

All life is precious*, and that single issue MUST dictate our political choice! * This rock-solid, no-compromise principle not valid with respect to brown lives, especially those fleeing deadly violence in Central America, or drowning as they cross the sea fleeing murderous civil war in Syria, or who are dying from lack of basic medical care in a cage in our custody in El Paso, etc. The fact that the “bedrock principle” that supposedly drives evangelicals is pure fucking hypocrisy makes the whole goddamned thing completely laughable...if it wasn’t also totally fucking depraved and evil. In short, anyone who claims to vote for Trump because they are pro-life is a lying fucking hypocrite who is just fine with leaving that child to die the second after it leaves the womb in Honduras, Syria, Guatemala, Afghanistan, etc. - shit, even right here in the USA if the parents happen to be poor and brown (serves em right). Fuck em. Fuck em all.11 points

We made it to church on time as did SIL and her fam. MIL there 1 hour and 15 minutes early. Sisters kids were hooligans and they had to leave 25 mins into the service. Probably over a hundred kids there and they were the only two with issues but that wasn’t a surprise. Showed up at the house and BIL was hammered and sweating bullets. Under control for now though. SIL is doing a great job of keeping MIL in check. It will turn into fighting by tomorrow for sure. This thing always starts off slow. A couple of things to look for tomorrow. Does BIL bring a trashy girl over? What do I get from MIL for Christmas. I got a dustpan two years ago along with a lecture that mine was too flimsy. For those of you offering advice: take it to the Dr. fucking Phil thread. This is for bitching. Also, I’m winning the long game. The crazier they act, the less I have to come here. Down from about 15 days a year to 5.10 points

Grandmother has recently been moved to assisted living. It’s a condo. Full kitchen and laundry room. She knows she needs the help, but still is resisting the move and is being rather cranky. I drove an hour and a half to pick her up this morning for Christmas Eve lunch. Greeted her with “Merry Christmas Nan!”. Got a “This isn’t Christmas. Christmas is only a happy holiday.”. Good start. Started lunch and she gets snippy and asked to be returned to her cell. LOL. So now I’m driving her back to her condo and she is refusing to listen to any Christmas music.8 points

The easy part is to buy the giant roll. To continue to store it, move with it, and use it for 34 years and counting - that takes serious commitment.8 points

Hand out? So you are insinuating that he’s getting paid? This comment alone shows what a major league dumbass you are. You don’t know this kid. You don’t know his family. You get all butthurt about the Twitter trolling of a 16 year old. Until he signs his LOI it doesn’t matter. Don’t go full aggy and criticize him because of what you think based on some posts on social media. We saw how angry aggy was about losing a cancer like Evans and they went full retard. Never go full retard, unless you are closetojumping 🙄 If he goes to Bama, it has more to do with Nick Saban and their history of successful DL in the NFL. OU and aggy were all in on the 3 man front and the 4I. That’s no longer an issue. He was set to make his choice. What changed? Simple, we hired Chris Ash and he runs a 4 man front. That’s what he wants to play in. He didn’t want to play the 4I. Can anyone blame him? He’s tight with Jalen and Hayden. I know they are working on him. They have all played together since 5th grade. He had crossed us off his list with Orlando as the DC. Now he’s changing his his commitment date from January to August. 🤔. He will make 2-3 visits to Texas in the spring and if he likes what he sees and hears I think he ends up in Austin. That’s just my opinion and I could be wrong. I hope whatever he chooses that it’s the right choice for him and his family.8 points

Found a place to get 2 dozen tamales for Christmas lunch/snack.... Would normally not consider this a monumentous feat, but doing so in South Dakota at least gives me somewhat of a taste of home for the holidays.8 points

I look at offensive play calling a lot like boxing. Most of it is left jabs with a few right crosses mixed in. Once you lull them to sleep with the rythym of those, you bite their ear off. Maybe I don't know boxing so well, but you get the point. Do what you do, but land the surprise at the right time. Rythym is everything6 points

Holy shit. Greg Davis apologists in the wild, still alive. Thought they were extinct by now. Guess that's what happens after a half decade of Shawn Watson and Tim Beck. Kinda like dating in the engineering department... after a while, anything starts to look good to ya.6 points

My wife wants us (in North Dallas) to meet her Grandmother (lives in Austin) for lunch in Waco tomorrow. Not exactly fun, but grandma gets to spend time with her great grand kids. So fine, whatever. Okay, tell her we'll go to Ninfa's or Buzzard Billy's or some other kinda nice place. Get home Saturday night. "So everybody is meeting at the Cracker Barrel in Hewitt at noon." So, now I'm driving two fucking hours to eat at a god damn cracker barrel. Jesus fucking christ.6 points

The wife and her sister had a stupid falling out over a comment about Sis in-law's kids being ungrateful. Now we are not going to her Xmas that she's hosting on Saturday - which is an all-day ordeal. I get to watch the college playoff in peace. Christmas miracles can happen people, you have to believe!5 points

I was 5 in June of ‘86 when we had to move to New Jersey From Dallas for Dad’s job. Mom’s dad had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer that spring. We had flown back for thanksgiving that year. I remember I had brought “a gift” for him in my suitcase that my parents had no idea about. It was a brown paper lunch sack full of oak, gum, maple, ash and other tree leaves of all different colors from the fall. I said, “Papaw, I never saw these colors here so I brought them to you.” You’d thought I brought him a bucket of gold bricks by the look on his face. We had plane tickets to fly back on the 26th of Dec for Christmas, as it was horrifically expensive to fly on the holidays during that time. Got a call on Christmas Eve morning that we needed to fly home right then and there. Now. somehow, dad got the money together and we got a flight midday on Christmas Day from PHL to DFW. My uncle picked us up from the airport and they took me, just turned 6, and my 3 yr old sister to Papaw and Mamaw’s house where older second cousins were baby sitting us. Mom and Dad rushes to the hospital and got there about 8:30 or so. Dad went in to see him, and he asked what he bought us for Christmas. He walked out and his only daughter, my mom, went in to see him. He asked her the same. She said, “dad, we spent what we could to get here to see you, we got them some things but seeing you was what matters most.” He called my grand mom in there, and told her to get us a few extra things. Then he told my mom, “I was hanging on for you to get here, I love you”. And he passed. Love can drive the human body to do crazy things. They didn’t think he’d make it a week after thanksgiving, and they had no reason to believe he’d be alive 2 days after they’d called in a preacher to pray over him in the 24th. But seeing his daughter one more time drove him home. I love this time of year even though one of my first real memories of the holiday is one of great sadness, but it’s one of reflection as well. That sadness has been reciprocated many times over by joyous memories, but it also prepared me for three uncles I’ve lost within 10 days of either side of Christmas. It’s these times I find even greater strength in my faith5 points

You keep posting shit like this and it’s as fucking dense as your recruiting takes. Are you requiring or expecting interviews from players to come out in which they state that they do not like Ash by name? If not, what are you expecting? Continually espousing the premise that “nobody knows shit and this is all bulletin board bullshit” is fine for something like the coaching searches. Stating that regarding sentiments of recruits and players, when it is a given fucking fact that the $9.95ers actually do talk to those people and then pass on their thoughts is your own personal idiocy and the board doesn’t need to be constantly peppered with it. This is one of those guys that originally showed up to the recruiting board demanding sources as though he has a right, and then claimed that nobody knew shit until it was repeatedly obvious that some did. This is a continuation of that same stupid logic. Not everyone is totally disconnected in every way to the UT organization, dumbfuck.4 points

I'm guessing it has already been mentioned, but the commercial where the girl tells her insurance agent how her brother was getting the station wagon hand me down really grinds my gears. Stupid, spoiled, ungrateful sap is getting wheels and freedom and whining because it isn't stylish enough. Fuck him. That station wagon would be a fucking party wagon if he wasn't such a pathetic worm.4 points

Oh c'mon they admitted they stopped coaching Vince, at the very least unconventional for a bunch of dipshit meathead coaches.....and by the way that's something everybody should remember in all of this. Coaches are generally dipshit meatheads, if they weren't they would have gone into a profession that pays a fuckload more than coaching. The ones who make it to the top are generally the tallest midgets but most of these guys languish away for whatever the fuck they pay teachers plus a few thousand dollars in stipend.4 points

You see the path, and the danger....yet you steadfastly support the guy tossing gasoline on the tribalism fire...head shaking, man. Truly amazing. We’re going to fucking burn, because even though we know we’re going to burn if we do this shit, we’ve got enough folks saying “yeah, let’s do this shit!” Humanity is perpetually intent on destroying itself. This is a dangerous line of thinking and is not based in reality. The difference is Obama was never a threat to democracy, the right just didn't like his policies. The right jumped into outright conspiracy theories head first, despite the fact they were all debunked. The dotard is ABSOLUTELY without question a threat to democracy, both in his actions, his speech, and his base. The "conspiracy theories" he has been accused of keep being proven correct, over and over and over, not to mention his corruption is just blatantly obvious. Obama and Trump are not the same situation in any way, no matter how badly you want them to be.4 points
