  1. Ignore this crap about personal injury lawsuits from Covid. It isn’t happening. It comes from a place of ignorance and fear, or worse, insurance industry propaganda. Lawsuits alleging negligent spread of Covid are few and far between. I know of one, and I’m sure it will not be successful. It will probably be dismissed and when it is, it won’t get 1/100th the headlines it got when it was filed. Only in the rarest of cases will these actually be viable lawsuits. You’ll need some special circumstances likely involving isolation of the infected prior to infection. I can think of a few cases that might be viable, such as a sleep-away summer camp or private boarding school that ignored warnings signs and did not take basic precautions, but even those cases will have steep hurdles most claims still can’t clear. Not only would you have to prove that a school or business breached their duty to limit the spread of the virus by exercising ordinary care, whatever that means in this instance, you also will have to prove proximate cause. Proving proximate cause means proving you got Covid as a result of that breach of the duty to exercise ordinary care. And you’ll need medical evidence. How exactly are most people with Covid going to do that? How can they prove the exact place where they got Covid? Is football practice the only place they have been around any other person? Is the air they breathe at football practice the only air they’ve breathed? Obviously not. Show me a scientific way to prove where you got the Covid specifically, because that is exactly what you’re going to need. You are going to need to prove based upon a reasonable degree of medical probability that your Covid came from the school’s breach of proper Covid protocols. That night you fucked your girlfriend? That restaurant you went to? The grocery store you went to? When you went to visit your parents? When you stopped at a gas station? The time you picked up drive-thru? How do you know your Covid came from the school and not from any of that? How do you prove the link? You don’t. Don’t believe me? Go do a Google search real quick for “Covid personal injury lawyer.” You will find lawyer websites in your search results, but what you won’t find is many lawyers looking to represent you for your Covid infection. You’ll find Lawyers looking for business interruption cases (business loss insurance claims). You’ll find defense firms looking to offer Covid advice. You’ll find personal injury law firms advising you that they are still open for business and are taking Covid precautions. You won’t find many lawyers looking to represent people who have Covid infections against places where they allegedly got infected. You will find zero on your first page of Google search results. I found one on page 3, if you can call it one at all. https://bernsteininjurylaw.com/blog/does-covid-19-constitute-a-personal-injury-claim/ It basically explains why you probably don’t have a case, as I just did above. Now, go do a Google search real quick for “18 wheeler personal injury lawyer.” Take a look at how many hundreds of law firms are itching to take your injury cases. None will explain to you why you probably don’t have a case. All will explain to you that you should call them ASAP for a free consultation. There are over 150,000 supposed, potential wrongful death COVID infection cases out there for plaintiffs personal injury lawyers. Why don’t you think lawyers are out there advertising for them like they are for 18 wheeler injuries and deaths? By the way, I’m not just saying this as some asshole on surly. I’m (also) saying this as a board certified personal injury lawyer who has personally recovered over $35 million for my clients in the last 10 years and has all the little awards like Super Lawyer, Top 100, etc. If you get Covid, don’t call me. 3. One issue is that the true underlying root causes that can cause unrest will need to be addressed. There's no question that Trump's administration and supporters make the problem rapidly worse, but a Biden administration would have to actively make it better and I'm not convinced they will. If those trends aren't reversed then the basic feelings of insecurity and uneasiness that could cause bloodshed won't go away. If a Biden administration doesn't actively reverse them then those millions of workers and voters will blame the Democrats, the Republicans will be back even more emboldened, and the descent will accelerate further. And make no mistake whatsoever, Democratic administrations haven't been much if any better in this respect than pre-Trump Republicans. They've gladly continued the American corporatocracy in exchange for donations. Trump has given us a glimpse into that end game. The Republicans won't stop it, will the Democrats?

  7. So, you're mathematically illiterate? Hint: When you divide 169,848 by the US population (329M or so) and get 0.0005139, that is not equal to ".0005139% Of the population," you gotdam rube.

  8. This motherfucker just said Democrats want to keep schools closed because that's where voting booths are and the Democrats are trying to keep people from voting. I have reached the point that I can no longer say what I really want to say about this man because I don't want to get put on any watch lists.

  13. I get what you're saying, I just don't entirely agree. Don't impeach the guy. Don't call 50 press conferences. You just say every single time a mic is in their face "THe president of the united states is interfering directly in this election and suppressing people's ability to vote safely, or at all. He doesn't care about your lives, he only cares about his power. Get out and vote in November." Every. Single. Time.

  15. In a perfect world, it would be ideal to vote by mail during a pandemic. And in the future, if we still have a viable nation, mail and remote voting should become the norm anyway. But for this election, I will crawl through a field of broken coronavirus syringes to go to the polls if I have to.

Biden will ban us from saying “Happy Honda Days!” Biden will eat all the Velveeta and there wont be any left over for grandma! Biden will make Pig Latin the new official language but, in an ironic twist of capriciousness, will outlaw ham! Biden will punch Baby Yoda right in his smug green face! Biden will rearrange the alphabet and add a 27th letter: “quintuple u.” Biden will refer to each of us as “Chief!” or “Big guy!” or “There he is!” Biden will tolerate diversity! Biden will melt down our guns and forge them into an indestructible transforming robot that assumes the shape of a giant gay wedding cake! Biden will promote Cap’n Crunch to Admiral!

  21. You can use facts and data as much as you want to, the "ordinary disease," "it's just a flu," "it's not dangerous" crowd will not believe you. The common response to the death number, as well as the almost universal conclusion that deaths are being undercounted, is that, in fact, the deaths are vastly overcounted. That every single death is counted as C19, hospitals are incentivized to classify every patient as C19, and you have to separate deaths WITH C19 from deaths BECAUSE OF C19. They'll cite you to a case of their friend, or cousin, or even themself, that didn't even TAKE a C19 test but received a C19 diagnosis in the mail. See, the deniers take the position that the people dying would have died anyway because of old age, or cardiac issues, or pulmonary issues, and the inconvenient fact that they had C19 is immaterial, and just being used by the crazy media/elite conspiracy to destroy our country and institute complete government control over every aspect of our lives. They scoff at your death numbers. Meanwhile, the family and friends of those 169,000, or 210,000, or whatever the number is, are not scoffing.

  22. come on brew, for fuck's sake... first off, what private school is larger than an entire school district in the same town? please tell me. private schools inherently contain a natural segregation and homogeneity of of economic demographic and thus, don't have to concern themselves with an extraordinary set of headaches that come along with the public school mandate of dealing with every type of child with every type of learning disability with every type of economic/home challenge. it is not just size, it is diversity of circumstance. no fucking kidding they are in a better position to navigate this than public school districts. they are funded to deal with this stuff...ya know, privately by the participants directly. they also don't have the headache of tea's political bullshit creating changes on a daily basis. eanes isd has communicated all throughout the summer regarding their plan(s) and most of the changes have been a consequence of the stupid shit coming from them.

Archie : I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. 31. This is all about optics for the Big 10. They have somehow convinced themselves that any perceived risk is unacceptable in a sport that has tons of risk. Of corse there are unknowns but we all have a higher risk of death from getting in our car everyday than Covid. Perspective has been destroyed during this Covid mess. Also, why is it ok for these same Big 10 schools to allow kids on campus. How is it not a liability to the schools if one of the students dies? Pure BS.

  32. Two years on the 10th, folks. Happy to be sober today. Happy to not have a horrible hangover this morning. Happy that, in this time where my work is crazy busy, I am on top of it. My wife still has a little PTSD from today's date as that was when she busted me out of a less than acceptable sober living facility, so she is sort of in the dumps (big time rehasher/resentment gal), but, I'm doing me and can't control her. I can continue to serve her and my kids today and keep on keepin' on. I've learned so much about myself in two years and I can honestly say I don't despise looking in the mirror anymore. Thanks to all y'all for your posts, support, and knowledge. CDM

  33. Are you seriously saying that 3.2% is the best fatality rate and calling someone else an idiot? That is absurd. That’s deaths divided by cases which is not how any fatality rate for any disease has ever been figured, and literally every single scientist would laugh at you for saying that’s the fatality rate. best consensus estimate is fatality rate between .15 and .5, nowhere near 3.2. now, talking tots fatality rate in and of itself is pretty stupid, when you consider this thing kills like 20% of some age groups that get it and like 0.02% of other groups that get it, but whatever- if you want to make your case stronger by using total fatality rate that’s fine- and there’s arguments that we should talk about it that way since it’s a problem for the public at large and not just 18-22 year olds (and the staff on the teams) but please don’t use 3.2 as a fatality rate and pretend like you are on the side of science or logic.
