  2. Like 20 pages skipped from over the weekend and I definitely don't feel like I missed a goddamn thing. So that's nice. Less nice is that motherfucking Immamac has pinned posts to the top of every page he likes so now we all have to see a CloseToJumping post every time a page loads. Can't we just cut the bullshit and sticky a pic of Listeater to the top of every fucking page?

  3. Carter gets crapped on a lot because of where America was as a country in the late 70s following Nixon, adventurism in SE Asia, and a sclerotic economy. I don’t think you can argue that he seized the moment, but he was hardly the disastrous boogeyman you hear about on AM radio. And he was probably too decent to hold the job. As a person— well, it befuddles me the hatred he gets from conservatives as a rural Georgian, the husband of one woman, who teaches Baptist Sunday school and builds houses for poor people. But it’s Trump who represents traditional America. Sure.

  4. Wow, this one is really enlightening. Right. There seem to be a group of staff members that were correctly assessed when Gerry first released the list of guys coming with Sark: Flood, Milwee, Davis; some that would stay: Drayton, Carrington (if BC wasn't part of the list, it was disclosed through channels almost immediately that he'd be sticking from the same kind of source); and then some that were kiboshed but correct in original plan: Muschamp (kiboshed by Muschamp), Stoops (by BMD, thankfully), Banks (Saban wants to keep him, so he either sticks or doesn't announce a departure that can be confirmed until after tonight); and then some spitballing from whoever provided the info, such as Colbert and Lupoi. That source actually looks like it had its shit together. Since then, everything from the $9.95 side of things has been chasing hypotheses and I see nothing new today in that vein. Wiggins, Simmons, Raymond, Freeman, Arnett, Odom, Huff, Scott, Golding, Quinn, etc., all looking like dry wells or lucky guesses. Then you have Gideon happening without prior commentary on him. Next is Joseph coming out of nowhere. Now you have Coleman as "being with the WRs" but we don't know in what capacity. I think we're at the point where the $9.95ers don't have anything worth mentioning beyond the original material, so it's everyone's best guess. Guys like Nahlin acting like they know jack shit about the DC are playing charades. I'm guessing there is a huge flurry of official announcements tomorrow morning before Sarkisian's PC. If not then, surely immediately afterward. One note regarding Coleman: Bama uses analysts as assistants in all facets except being able to put them on the road recruiting. Those dudes coach practice, during the games, do evaluations, contact recruits and take calls/texts with them, etc. Texas is paying Coleman his on-field assistant salary no matter what. Sarkisian likes him as a coach. This could very easily be a situation in which Coleman gets to get paid and coach the way he wants while not having to go on the road and recruit, which he doesn't like. So that frees up a spot to bring on a partner who likes to do the recruiting and will be happy to split the coaching work and get paid. Maybe not, but that's actually the idea I like best at this point, and it makes more sense than anything else I've heard, so I'll go with that over $9.95 speculative stuff to the contrary.

  9. So wait. Fields is 6/15 for 90 yards in the first half and people think Bama should be doing better defensively? Did we all watch the same OSU vs Clemson game? Seriously, surly. What in the literal fuck?

  10. Betcha didnt think that by visiting a texas longhorn board to look at their MSPaint 10 years ago, you'd be spending your free time reviewing Texas Aggy facist propaganda during the Donald Trump led coup in the middle of a global pandemic.

  13. NSIAP, he apparently deliberately provoked them and led them away from unguarded doors of the Senate chamber, while staying in contact with other officers to let them know where he was headed with the crowd, which he led right to those other officers.

  20. There’s approximately 1000 posts about ice cream in this thread but we’re drawing the line at posts about the performance of potential coordinator hires?

  21. Yeah, why are we still debating this? How has anyone not learned their lesson about giving Trump the benefit of the doubt? Trump put out tweets explicitly calling for his loser followers to swarm DC on January 6. He gave a fascist call-to-arms speech whipping the mob he summoned into a frenzy and imploring them to storm the Capitol. When they did what he asked them to do, he and his toadies refused requests for military protection of Congress and Trump called congressmen to extort them while their lives were in danger. And y’all are sitting here wondering if we’ll ever get to the bottom of the impenetrable mystery of The Crazy Capitol Caper. Good lord.

  22. During the insurrection, I recall watching the video of this man confronting the mob alone and performing a controlled retreat. Alone. I was frightened about how the video might end. Given a few moments to consider it, I wondered about the odds of his surviving had he been rushed by a White Supremicist mob. Now I see he was not only courageous but also brilliant and essential. You don't see many people like this. When the Medal of Freedom regains its meaning, he is first in line. If he wants the job, put him in charge of the Capitol Police. That's a great man. A great man.

  23. My dearest Surly assholes Hot off the presses it's our newest season of the podcast. Have a listen as @RGBIII and I discuss the firing of Tom Herman, the Hiring of Steve Sarkisian, the Assistant Coaches we are targeting or have already hired and much more! This thread will serve as a discussion and as general feedback for the podcast. There will be another thread for a "mailbag" on ideas we can incorporate for future episodes. Hope you enjoy this as much as we did recording it. https://anchor.fm/surly-horns/episodes/Season-2-Episode-1-eor2q5 Season2Episode1.mp3

  27. Part of Melania's Statement: "Most recently, my heart goes out to: Air Force Veteran, Ashli Babbitt, Benjamin Philips, Kevin Greeson, Roseanne Boyland, and Capitol Police Officers, Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood. I pray for their families comfort and strength during this difficult time." That's like Laura Bush coming out with a statement after 9/11 saying "My heart goes out to Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour and Zian Jarrah as well as the police and firefighters that lost their lives".

  31. I'm calling in from Alabama Recon Post #4 monitoring local Good Ol Boy radio call-in show. So far it's 1. Male, voice: twangy. Voted for Trump twice. Hates him now. Accepts election results. 2. Male, voice: old and thinks-self-clever: letting ideas drop of where do "we" go now once "we" exhaust legal remedies... 3. Female, voice: Archie Bunker's more aggrieved little sister: ranting about BLM, Antifa, but then turned on and bit the radio hosts. 4. Male, voice: folksy reptilian: the playbook is now clear, we simply have to do the nefarious thing the Democrats did, then we shall win as well. Also, the different callers were turning on each other. Anyway, I gotta go listen to something else while my IQ still allows me to cross the room.

  32. I called my mom Sunday afternoon. After a few minutes of small talk about my brother's shithead grandkids and the flurries of snow that caused them to have to run to the grocery store for milk, bread and eggs, I told her I needed to ask her something. She said she already knew what I was going to ask and that it was true...I have a full sister out there born about 18 months after me. Its also true that my dad isn't my birth dad. He adopted me right after they were married in 1971. He's always My dad did not know about my sister, however, as they were not yet together (my mom told him Friday night anticipating that I'd some come calling). Only a handful of people close to my mom knew about my sister, and that breaks my heart. She and I have only exchanged a message on Ancestry thus far, but I've Facebook stalked her and she's a beautiful lady and thankfully had a great upbringing (but she likes Luke Bryan). I feel like I've missed out on a lot not having her in my life. I feel guilty, too, that the reason my mom didn't keep her was because she already had me and could not take care of two kids at the age of 21. I hope she wants some type of connection, even if its only very casual. But I'd understand if she doesn't and I never hear from her again. I'm not mad or upset about any this being hidden. And I told my parents that, too, and this it doesn't change the way I feel about either of them. But it IS a lot to process as evident by me still up at 1:30 in the morning.
