  3. "Victim"? To the extent she's a victim, she's a victim of her own lack of judgment. Actions have consequences. Since when was social shaming a problem? I mean, admittedly we've somewhat changed what we think people should be shamed for. We no longer shame people for being homosexual or for smoking a joint. Now we shame people for expressing racist or misogynistic or homophobic views. But the concept of social shaming is not new. Nor is the concept of expressing abhorrent views new. Ellen DeGeneres's show got (literally) canceled 25 years ago after she came out as gay. I don't remember any right-wingers then decrying "cancel culture." On the contrary, they were pretty fucking happy pursuing cancel culture so long as they dictated the culture. But now that the culture has shifted and their views are deemed to be deviant, they're all fucking pissy about it. Well, sorry, assholes--it's a round world. What goes around comes around.

  4. I’m really excited to hear that the new staff is doing things different and have a totally new energy in recruiting. I was expecting things to be the same, but according to insiders it’s night and day. I really didn’t see this coming. So pumped for this new staff, I’m going to resubscribe to all the pay sites!

  6. Nah. Mostly just saying that I understand the underpinning of Gerry's angst. My least favorite take in any recruiting thread is TrUsT tHe CoRcHEs -- I fucking HATE that shit but with Murphy you just have to. Sarkisian is a known commodity as a QB evaluator and teacher, Murphy is as unknown a product as you can be as a 5* that has been on the radar since 8th grade. I simply don't have enough info to eval him at all and so it comes down to trusting Sarkisian. I haven't seen enough to say he's an easy take. I haven't seen enough to know that he has the competitive sickness. It's all trust at this point. He's a huge guy with a huge arm and can do a standing backflip. He's well liked by other recruits. That's the end of my knowledge. He's a moldable piece of clay with very limited experience. I think that both sides of the Klubnik discussion have become way overblown and I'll go ahead and blame Ketch because I fucking hate that fat tub of shitgravy and blaming him just feels good. Klubnik doesn't seem polarizing enough as a talent to illicit either the love or hate response he's gotten here. I am biased against the Westlake/LT/SLC/Allen type kids from the drop but I recognize that Klubnik could come here and win a lot of football games. I don't think he's a can't miss guy and I don't think he'd butt fumble every play. I like him a hell of a lot more than Weigman. Neither of these guys is Quinn Ewers. the honest truth is that I think Murphy generates more buzz and creates some much needed momentum. If he's capable of bringing along Williams and Hyphen it's an easy take. Anything beyond that is fantastic. Right now Texas is struggling to get momentum mostly from unforced errors and partially from a job well done by opposing coaches. Either way the new coach bump has been almost non-existent. So Murphy bringing in a couple of really highly rated guys and generating buzz and much needed interest is a big factor. Quick side note, people keep asking about a QB2 for this class but I think we already did. We signed QB2 for 2022 as a PWO in Cole Lourd. He's absolutely capable and a perfect QB2 candidate. https://247sports.com/Player/Cole-Lourd-46077126/

  8. Yeah sometimes you get cancelled for being inappropriate, like Al Franken. Other times you get credibly accused of sexual assault by a dozen different women and get caught on tape bragging about it and you get elected President.

  14. I drive this way every morning. The snooze button may have saved my life today. Pisses me off every morning how aggressively people drive in heavy traffic. The roads weren't even really that bad, but combination of people driving way too slow and people driving way too fast and aggressively because "its not even that bad and all these slow drivers are just stupid "

  15. FYI: https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/02/11/pac-12-football-recruiting-our-breakdown-of-the-top-targets-for-each-team-in-the-class-of-2022/ UCLA: TB Jaydn Ott (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman). The Bruins are an interesting case in that five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy is atop their wish list. (His mom works on campus.) But we opted for Ott as the best combination of desirable and signable. The four-star prospect will have plenty of offers, whereas Murphy could commit to Texas any day.

  16. "Cancel Culture" is the dumbest fucking phrase in existence today. It is an intellectually weak argument and it has never once been used in good faith. If you suddenly pose a risk to your employer's bottom line and you are let go, that's not cancel culture. That's capitalism. And if you are a public figure, you need to understand the audience that your employer is appealing to. If Sark suddenly started wearing maroon and white to every press conference and kept posting the aggy war hymn lyrics to his social media, even after multiple warnings, he would surely be "cancelled." But most of all, it's the hypocrisy. People who will cry about cancel culture will then turn around and vote to censure a politician who had the audacity to have the opinion that the current impeachment proceedings are constitutional. Everyone "cancels." Everyone makes choices on who/what to support and not. Whining about it is just another example of the current Republican platform, which is only one sentence long: I AM A VICTIM. Instead of whining about the culture, maybe it would be useful to examine why advertising one set of beliefs doesn't tend to trigger mass backlash with the population at large. Nah, playing the "woe is me" card is much easier.

  18. This is a silly post. Imagine yourself 50 years ago. It's 1971 and you would think the exact same thing because you have no idea what the next 50 years will bring. Everyone in every generation will think they got to see the best at some point during the last 40 years. Somebody in 1971 would be thankful they got to see Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, the best basketball players of all time. Because they were in 1971. And so on for every sport.

  19. Jumping out of your car...so in this particular instance there was nowhere to go. As Vic mentioned previously these are walled in and often elevated express lanes close to downtown FW. You ain't running out down an embankment in that situation. Now CSB time. When I was a sophomore at Texas I drove a shitty 11 year old Ford Tempo. I had trouble with it headed back to DFW for Spring Break and had it worked on for cheap during that week. Heading back to Austin that Sunday got stuck in a massive traffic jam on 35 just north of Baylor. This was when that stretch of 35 was undergoing a fair amount of construction and was still two lanes. My shitty car did not like the sitting and just as I started to clear the obstruction (which was a minor fender bender) it started to complain. I pulled into the right lane hoping to make an exit, got maybe 300-400 yards past the initial issue and it just died and began to smoke. saw fire coming from under the hood and needless to say that would be the last day of that piece of shit. Now you would think my concern in that moment was being in a car that was starting to burn. Not at all, it was when I looked in my review mirror, saw massively pissed off drivers of cars and trucks who had been sitting in traffic for 30-45 minutes dropping the hammer. I felt the car shake two times as two cars whizzed by and then a semi made a last minute lane change to avoid my ass and that was it for me. I couldn't go out the left door (would have opened in the other lane) and to the right was a construction wall, but beyond that the old traditional shoulder and grass etc. I crawled across the seat was able to get the door open and got the fuck out as fast as I could, jumped over that wall and got the hell away. I came closer to pissing my pants than I ever have in my life. As for the car, well the alert fire rescue guys at the event behind me saw the nonsense and quickly came and put it out before the whole thing burned up (so all the shit I had in the car made it) but every non metal item under the hood was gone gone gone. One of the few moments of sheer terror in my life when I saw that truck.

  20. the case being made here is so good, so linear and easy to follow, so thorough, so well put together and articulated...and it's all for nothing and today i'm just really feeling down about it all. Lindsey's proclamation to FOX last night that he'd checked with his colleague's and Trump has nothing to worry about (or whatever he said along those lines, i saw it referenced but didn't watch myself)... how, HOW could this be, how did we get to this point, where this simple and overwhelmingly evidenced case is just a waste of time because half of the Senators that they are making the case to are not even paying attention. worse, they are making a spectacle of not paying attention. they want us to know they cannot even be bothered. these House managers are killing it, they've put together what could easily be a strong criminal case...and they are wasting their time. obviously i'm being rhetorical. some days it just really hits me that we've fallen THIS far. i don't understand this country i live in.

  21. You don't see the difference between comparing separating children into literal cages to Nazi Germany, and some MAGA loon comparing her plight (which I guess consists of the fear of Twitter censorship and watching the President that she voted for get impeached--and, soon to be, acquitted--for absolutely inciting a deadly riot) to the Nazi government propaganda that caused Germans to violently evict their Jewish neighbors? Of course you do, but you like being disingenuous

  27. I'd give y'all advice for driving on ice, but here's the thing: it doesn't matter how used to it you are, it fucking sucks and you should probably avoid it at all costs. If you can't, the main thing to remember is don't just slam on your brakes. It's going to make things worse. Let off the gas, and gently pump them.

  33. Yep. When I worked at a job about 9 years ago, my boss called me early in the morning and told me not to come in. It isn't worth it. This was when DFW would get snow and ice every year. This was leading up to the Super Bowl in 2011 that was at Jerry World. Snowed like 4x that week it seemed. They would put people up in a hotel no charge down the street if they could not make it home. It's sad that is behavior is praised and uncommon. This should be the norm. Hell it is even worse if you work retail or restaurant. They will tell you that you better be dead if you don't show up. Sad thing is, it's most of the very low paying jobs with no real job security who are risking it like this. They live check to check and are desperate not to miss work. This is how companies can have you trapped. They know if they dangle termination, the employee feels scared to miss even a single day. And I also think too many employees think too highly of themselves. They claim the world's grid will stop if they don't show up to work lmao. Riiiight. Or that they can't be replaced at all and can't miss a day. I saw someone on Reddit this morning mention a janitor and how he can't work from home. I think a building will survive for a day or two if the janitor does not show.
