  1. It was spring semester of my soph year at tech and I was at the rec center swimming laps. I pulled up the deck, sat up and removed my goggles. Then the guy in the lane next to me asks "how far did you swim?" Holy shit, its Mike Leach. "A mile" I replied Leach: "how many laps is that?" Me: "32" Leach: "Fuck that!" Rest in Peace Captain Leach, thank you for making college football much more fun

  2. yeah, that was me. some news station in lubbock published it without hornfans attribution or attributing it to me at all. looking back, i might have written it a bit differently, but i was younger. and a much better writer. jesus. found the news station in lubbock, they still got it! haha. https://www.kcbd.com/story/2463125/so-i-met-coach-leach-in-honolulu/ and pos rep for saving that GD photo. i have no idea where the hell a copy of that might be. he was such a gentleman and was keen to talk my ear off, like many of the stories in this thread - that was him, it wasn't a put on. i met him for, what, 10 - 15 minutes of my life, and i'll never forget the impression he made on me - not just the skimmer and the hat, but just how much time he had for me to discuss football, the museum we were in, etc. i never want to be that guy who takes people away from their family, but he never made me feel weird for talking to him. he made me feel weirder for ending the conversation - like he had so much more to be said and he actually wanted to say it to me. like i was that important in that minute, even though he didn't know me from the museum lady hollering at him, but he didn't care. i dunno - i will say that experience, as trivial as it was and makes for a funny story, did change the way i thought about things in a way, and made me more closely follow the dude through his career. they always say never meet your heroes, but he wasn't my hero when i met him. he was just a coach that was kind of quirky and annoying because his teams were always a pain in the ass. but he was a presence. and we are all now lesser that he's gone. rip, coach.

  5. My grandparents in west Texas were lifelong Democrats. Never voted Republican in their entire life. That all changed in 2012 when they voted in the Republican primary for Senate. Their vote for David Dewhurst was to make sure Craig James wouldn't make it to a runoff. They hated the bastard for getting involved in the football program and getting Leach fired. My grandma is still alive and has yet to forgive the university for it.

  8. Pretty damn solid coaching tree: The success of Leach's Air Raid extended far beyond the programs he coached. The branches of his coaching tree are extensive as Dave Aranda (Baylor), Neal Brown (West Virginia), Sonny Cumbie (Louisiana Tech), Sonny Dykes (TCU), Dana Holgorsen (Houston), Kliff Kingsbury (Arizona Cardinals), Lincoln Riley (USC) and Ken Wilson (Nevada) -- among many others -- all coached under him at one point. Very solid thoughts on nachos! This is awesome. People are sharing a lot of personal stuff that hasn’t been widely seen. I think he took time for anyone. That is so very rare. It appears anyone who wrote or called him or bumped into him…anyone who engaged with him…he had time for. Incredible.

  9. We can get him the playbook, and he can work on the nuances over the winter, spring and early summer. He’s a Stanford guy, should be ok.

  12. Hmm. It's almost like taking mercenaries with questionable character, particularly ones from places like Miami or the East Coast and placing them in College Station might be a questionable way to build a football roster. I mean, who could have possibly seen this coming?

  15. If you’re mad that men are treated way harsher for partner abuse than women, you might place some serious blame on “the good ol’ days.” There was a time not too long ago when it was not illegal to beat your wife. Some old court decisions even say that a husband was legally obligated to strike his wife is she spoke out of turn or did pretty much anything a woman wasn’t supposed to do. Even if you view it as an “overcorrection” (I don’t) it’s pretty well deserved to make sure people know that that shit doesn’t fly anymore. You might also blame other men, the ones who do in fact beat their partners for mundane shit like burning the casserole. It’s still a massive problem that happens frequently. The lesson in all this is that if your lady is indeed a hitter or otherwise abusive, just gtfo, you’ll never win the “she was the aggressor” argument. You might avoid criminal charges in some rare situations of inexplicable proof that she posed a serious physical threat, but will still almost always lose the PR battle. There’s plenty of other people you can bang who won’t put your livelihood at risk. PS to note that I don’t know if she was a crazy or abusive person but there are indications that the relationship was hostile. The above applies regardless of this particular case.

  19. Good Lord, Aggies. Show some respect. At least quote the man correctly……. “It's one of the greatest places to play on earth,” Leach said at SEC Media Days. “That stadium — when I was at Tech — that's one of the Carnegie Halls of football there. Kyle Field, first of all, is gigantic and holds a ton of people. The grass is impeccable. The Aggies are always highly motivated. It's a fun place to play. I've got some great memories of our games at Kyle Field over the years. Then Leach offered up a bit of a parting shot. “It was a fantastic experience,” Leach said. “It helped that we won most of them.” https://247sports.com/Article/Mississippi-State-football-Mike-Leach-sounds-off-on-playing-at-Texas-AM-Kyle-Field-168074839/

  25. (CDC interviewing prospective coach) "Well Coach, since you're single, we assume that you go out looking for pussy. We're concerned that you might bring home somebody that's below the standards of The University of Texas. So, meet your new wingman, CHRIS PLONSKY. She's going to make sure that you only bring home quality pussy of fine character"

  26. The bitemark was on her forearm according to the arrest report. Which is a really weird place to bite someone as an aggressor. This is where I'm at. He is gone by Friday. But, I absolutely believe that she isn't a completely innocent abuse victim here. Her story to the arresting officer doesn't make a ton of sense to me. It reads like a little kid try to explain away their involvement in a fight, while leaving out crucial detail and underplaying their role.

  28. Per Gerry (IT) Texas has 'calmed the waters' with Niblett heading into their Weds in-home visit with the WR. Sark is expected to bring damn near the entire offensive staff to the Niblett's abode. Houston is still in pursuit though and is trying to schedule an in-home with Niblett before he heads to Austin for the Dec 17th recruiting weekend. Also, Jaden Greathouse has shut down his recruitment and plans to sign with Notre Dame.

  29. We need first and foremost to do some kind of reverse voodoo caveat emptor type of deal to take away whatever shit Tech did to us. This may require some type of sacrifice. Since eating McRibbs didn’t help us secure Meyer we must burn them in a fire. I don’t know in what capacity David McWilliams still does shit for Texas but I don’t care…he must lead this ritual type of deal since he first opened that evil portal when we took him from the Lubbock people. This must be done with swiftness. I cannot stress this enough. They did some weird mojo shit on former coaches (I see Kyler Murray was carted off the field tonite with a likely season ending knee injury (non-contact) and coach Bro is skating on thin ice already there and looks like he’s aged about 25 years in the last two. The Lubbock people will be appeased by our McRibb fire as the winds will take away the predominant smell of feed lots in the area. Only then can we begin our coaching search for the next BB HC if Beard is indeed gone. If Bank’s girl and monkey want to do some kind of Tawny Kitaen thing in the background of our ritual to some WhiteSnake that’s fine. We should probably burn some orange slices and cookies and lemonade in the fire to appease the angry fat man in North Carolina as well. We have to get serious about this shit mofos. Curses can’t just be ignored. If we don’t do this, then the next HC we hire will probably be a serial biter that will start the plague of all plagues. David McWilliams and Delos’s Dodds fix this shit now!
