  3. Oh they want to talk about a lack of mental health institutions in this country? Well let's see in 1980 democrat president Carter signed the Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 to bolster the funding for mental health institutions in the US. A year later republican president Reagan signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 that repealed pretty much all of it and cut budgeting for mental health even further. In the 42 years since republicans have been responsible for further cuts. So that's on you republican fucks too. The entire problem is on you.

  6. I live in Allen. I knew it was only a matter of time before it happened here locally in this northeast part of the metroplex. Thankfully I hate the outlet so only go once a year for Christmas shopping but only on a Wednesday and only after 8 pm. My wife and the girls like to go there occasionally though and could easily have been today. She got me a shirt at that H&M not too long ago. It's all just shit. As long as millions keep voting republican it can never change.

  8. It’s not insane. It’s the gloating of the victor. She’s not even serious about the “solutions” in her second post. The first pair was the point. The gun nuts look at each shattered body as a sign that they’ve won. The broken corpses are actually trophies. An undeniable piece of proof that victory is theirs. And she’s right. They’ve won. Not only can we not do ANYTHING to reduce the dissemination and use of weapons of mass killing, the gun nuts are ensuring that the proliferation of those weapons is increasing at an astonishing rate. And then, they blame THE REST OF US when the inevitable happens. It’s evil, of course. But that’s the game these days. Just unbridled evil.

  12. As I walk through the battlefield of life, I make sure to always train my laser site on the vitals of the nearest threat. Yesterday, for example, I grabbed a coffee from a local shop. My red dot hovered on the barista’s forehead the entire time I was ordering. You can never be too careful. When the transaction was over, I reached for the cup with my free hand while careful to keep the muzzle pointed at my potential murderer behind the counter, and then slowly backed away to retrieve cream and sugar. There was some gray hair there, taking her sweet time. She might have been mixing her coffee or, equally likely, she might have been plotting an ambush. I quickly reevaluated the tactical situation, calculating that this elderly woman was now the greatest present threat to my safety. I maintained a safe distance with my weapon at the ready, all the while scanning the shop for nascent threats — college students, hipsters, young parents and their roaming toddlers were all within strike range. I needed to remain on high alert if I had any chance to escape this viper’s nest. The old woman left without firing on me. I was lucky, this time.

  13. I was reading it earlier. There several comments that are straight white Christian nationalist. As in not even trying to hide it. These are our neighbors that are electing the likes of Abbott and Cruz. It’s time we treat those people as the enemy. Stop being dismissive about them. That “they just have a different political stance”. They are enabling this shit with their gun fetishism, white Christiana fascism. Enemies of you and your family. We have the same types on this site that don’t give a shit because “hey, it wasn’t my kid that died”. They do not care. A bunch of tiny dicks compensating for the fact that they are in fact not superior to everyone else.

And while there are ties to race, they are most often linked to anti-communist, anti-semitism and Christian nationalism. And don’t get things twisted, even white supremacista don’t have a problem using what they perceive as non whites (regardless of ethnicity) to do their leg work. Go watch Grand Knighthawk on Hulu for a contemporary, domestic example.

  19. Why make it onerous as fuck? Really? We make kids who want to drive a car, which isn't directly designed to kill like a gun is but has that unfortunate side effect if used improperly go through hours of training, pay fees then and in perpetuity, show up with a million forms of ID, pass a couple tests etc. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if you want to "operate" a device in public that's sole purpose is "to kill" then the hurdles both financially and administratively need to be 5-10x orders of magnitude more difficult to achieve.

  20. Hypocrisy would be being inured by a falling tree limb, getting a large structured settlement that still pays you to this day, and then dedicating your career to making sure no one else can ever be properly compensated for an injury, or medical malpractice. Just so we're clear on what hypocrisy actually looks like.

  25. I posted it a while back, but for a long time, the NRA and gun industry considered the “black gun” culture weird, off-putting, and politically damaging. But a couple things happened. First, the percentage of people who were real outdoorsmen or ranchers or sports shooters fell off a cliff. And they realized that there’s a lot more money to be made with the black gun nuts. Serious hunters don’t really need that many guns and accessories. A good deer rifle, a duck gun, a dove gun, a varmint gun, and MAYBE a big game rifle for the truly committed. And you buy good ones and they last your whole life and then your grandkid gets your 30-30 and it lasts his whole life, too. Maybe you buy new optics once a decade or so. Sports shooters only need one good gun for each discipline they shoot. And gun “collectors” used to collect things that were, well, collectible. Historical weapons, expensive Italian and English jobs, etc. “Collecting” tens of the same new, mass produced firearm in different builds would have been considered bizarre. All these black gun people, they have these elaborate and expensive builds that they will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever use aside from the range. Because they’re not really useful for much besides killing a lot of people. You know those guys who collect mall swords and throwing stars and shit, then “train” with it? Black gun culture is basically that, except the collector items are very, very deadly. And much more money flows to the manufacturer.

  26. this news is dishearteningly typical when it reality it should be a horrible outlier. how pathetic are we, a first world power with vastly more wealth than any other nation, and all we're known for is our rampant daily bloodshed and the fact that we're more divided than we have been since the civil war. absolutely fucking pathetic.

  29. SecondAmendies would have a great place for selfies! The sane among us could station snipers on nearby billboards. The gun nuts will get their chance to wear their guns at a real shooting! Profit. I believe strongly that pictures from these scenes should be published widely. The fantacists who believe these situations would be solved by arming teachers need to see what they suggest risking and what their historic response to child slaughters has wrought. Consider a comparison with marching local Germans into the concentration camps to see what Nazi-ism led to. Matthew McConaughey's description of the Uvalde child indentifiable only by her shoes was moving. Very moving. It's rare that a non-visual representation can evoke a response such as a photo would garner at a glance. McConaughey's effort was a rarity. Publish the photographs. This is what we allow. This slaughter site is a lower priority in our gun culture than ownership of weapons designed to do this kind of damage in just seconds. This is who we are. This is what we allow ourselves to grow accustomed to while still thinking of ourselves as a great and serious country. We're none of that shit and haven't been since the country embraced Reagan and Limbaugh and Fallwell. We have never been as great as we insist that we are. Hubris is at the heart of Greek tragedies.

People regret healthcare choices all the time for any number of reasons and you don't give a shit. The number of trans people that detransition or regret gender-affirming surgery is a very small percentage, around 2-3%. So stop saying shit because the only reason you care is because, whether you are conscious of it or not, you are scared of trans people.

  38. Roschon could do a lot for the culture of the entire Windy City, not just the Bears. If he develops into a great team leader there he can influence a lot of the young residents of the city who obviously are in desperate need of guidance in their everyday lives from positive & strong role models. Roschon has demonstrated to the fans here that he has the makings to take that course, so I hope he expands his talents to the civic arena as he progresses in the years to come.

  39. Yep. We've been there multiple times as a family as my wife goes to the BR outlet up there. I have a distinct memory of taking my girls there after a soccer tournament. We ate at one of the fast food places around there. It was mid-November 2015. Wife and I were going to Paris for her birthday the next year. Read on my phone about the Bataclan terrorist shootings while my kids were finishing up their meals. Had to pause a bit and say do we really want to take a trip to some place that could be that dangerous? I mean they are so close to Muslim fundamentalists who want to kill Westerns. Of course we went and it was perfectly safe. Little did I realize the terror I was worried about would be a commonplace thing in this country and I had to just hope our number would never come up here. We're such a broken country. We make it so easy for angry people to unleash massive amounts of destruction on the most vulnerable. I'm sure if you could do a study on these shooters, you'd find out pretty easily why they target our children, the most vulnerable of all of us. Maybe it's anger over their own childhoods. Maybe it's anger that some kids are doing well or have parents that love them. Or maybe they just want to destroy something pretty. The real sadness is why we let them do this. Our society created a vaccine in under 6 months to stop a virus from killing multiple millions. Yet we can do absolutely nothing about firearms that kill hundreds on a daily basis.
