Here we go again Texas vs Bama Part Deux but this time we are rolling into the hostile territory of Bryant Denny Stadium. Last year at this time we were 20 point dogs and didn’t stand a chance against Saban as he and his 5 star fueled Death Star came to Austin. This team included 3 first rounders and 8 total picks in the first 2 days of the 2023 draft but they needed to yet again injure a Texas QB and get some Big 12 ref magic to squeak out a 1 point victory. Was this a case of Saban slipping a little bit or was Texas and Steve Sarkisian finally pulling out of their decades of mediocrity? Based on how each team finished the season it seems like more of the former as Bama lost to Tennessee for the first time in Saban’s tenure while LSU and the fighting Kelly’s beat them in an OT mid-off. During this time Texas finished 7-4 with a couple of big wins and a couple embarrassing losses. To pull off the biggest win in years Texas has to do to buck the following trends: 1. Texas mediocrity: For the past 13 years Texas has been the laughingstock of CFB and failed to live up to expectations exactly once (2018) but even then lost 4 games including a laugher to Maryland. Can Texas finally win a monster on the road and officially claim to be back for good? 2. Sevin Win Sark: Out of his 7 full seasons as a head coach Sark has won more than 7 games only 3 times. Even his biggest backers here couldn’t name a matchup of this magnitude that he has coached his team to a win in. Will he be able to finally get a big win on the road and a new nickname by years end? 3. Saban’s Dominance at Home: Saban at Alabama has won 103 and lost just 8 games at home since taking over in 2007. The current streak sits at 21 games since a team last walked out of Tuscaloosa with a win. Has Saban finally jumped the shark All the daunting trends and statistics aside here is why Texas is going to shut up all of the talking heads and pull out a dominating victory in Tuscaloosa: 1. We’re fucking Texas: Other fanbases and media will laugh at the notion that the Texas decal on the helmet means anything but disappointment but since the beginning of time Texas has dared to play big games and more often than not came out ahead. Texas has a winning record against every other Blue Blood except USC and ND. If you exclude the annual matchup with OU the total record is 25-21. But what about on the road you ask? Texas in 9-8 in true road games against the non OU Blue Bloods. No University of Texas player, coach, or fan is going to be fazed by the atmosphere, this type of game is why you choose the University of Texas. 2. Saban’s Swan Song: It is no secret that Alabama has lost their CFB throne to Georgia over the last 2 seasons but they are still 1B in the CFB pecking order. Saban has built up a lot of trust in his program to warrant the #3 ranking in a year when they lost a Heisman QB, all world defender, and do it all RB. Recruiting rankings suggest they just reloaded and will keep rolling but this is not your Uncle’s Alabama. To replace Bryce Young they tapped Jalen Milroe to assume the throne at QB despite their best efforts to buy an elite QB in the portal. If his game against the aggies is any indication than it will be a long night for Saban in Tuscaloosa. 3. Poetic Justice: Since that night at the Rose Bowl Texas has coveted a seat at the table that they once had a standing reservation at. Year after year we have had to sit by and watch an Alabama dynasty reel off championship after championship that was propelled by an injury to a Texas QB. Every dominant program has an alpha and omega when the world either knows you have arrived or that the end is near. In tandem the alpha and omega happened for Alabama and Texas on January 7th, 2010 while millions looked on. This Saturday will be the bookend moment for both of these programs as Texas beacons to the world that they are in fact back while leaving Alabama faithful wondering what will be next for their beloved program. The stars are aligned for a big night for the Horns in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Quinn has an opportunity to show us why he is the highest rated QB of all time and cement his legacy as a Texas QB. Sark is gunning to come full circle from wonderkid when he was hired at UW to a seasoned veteran HC with a career defining year. This team fucks and will prove it on the field in primetime. See yall in Tuscaloosa, I will be in U4-CC. Hook ‘em “The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid”33 points

This morning, I'm standing in the kitchen, making coffee, with the door closed so the noise does not wake the kids. For background purposes, it is 6 AM and my wife and I have had exactly no conversations this morning. Additionally, we have had no conversations of any real significance the night before. Nor did we have any sort of disagreement. My wife opens the door, walks into the kitchen, and says "I think you're wrong."23 points

If I am looking at this with the trained eye, none of the reasons that you listed for us to win are actual reasons. It was a noble effort reminiscent of the fat girl on prom night, but here are some reasons that I think we will win: 1. Texas has the depth at DLine to withstand the Bama run focused offense. Texas is one of maybe three schools in the country that can line up and play Bama straight up in the run game. Not only do we have the front line talent, but we also have a deep rotation at the DT spot with high quality talent that can hold the point of attack. I expect to see them move some guys around and to the edges in rotation for this game to spell Burke and Sorrell including Collins, Bledsoe, Hill and maybe even Zac Swansen in a pinch. I was pleasantly surprised by Burke's toughness at the point of attack against rice. Yeah yeah, it was Rice, but Burke has surprising leverage and very quick lacross powered feet to evade blockers when needed. I saw him duck through and dodge double teams multiple times on Saturday with both guys whiffing on him completely. 2. Our defensive backfield is going to give Milroe all kinds of problems. We will be able to play any kind of defense we want to play and know that we have the dudes to execute it in the backend. None of Bama's receivers feel like a true problem, and that will allow us to lock them up more in coverage with less people committed to the pass. Catalon and Thompson will be able to take turns playing down closer to the box in run support, Barron and Watts can be used as blitzers, and we can roll back into shallow zones with Catalon, Barron, and Watts all looking in towards the QB to help on scrambles. 3. Skill position superiority. We are better than Bama at the WR, TE, and QB with a good set of complimentary running backs to what Sark wants to do. Remember last year how much Sarkisian used the RBs in the pass game? Well, Brooks, Robinson, and Blue can all execute that really effectively. Baxter has hands as well, I just don't know his availability. If he does play, he should get 20+ carries against Bama. When we line up in three wides, that is our most potent formation. You can't double any of the receivers or you will leave the middle open for Sanders. You can't play zone or Worthy and Whittington will torch it. You can't play press man or Mitchell and Worthy will beat it. If you go to a nickel or dime look, then you lighten the box and give the running game a chance to get traction. 4. Offensive Line. Yes I know, some of you just spit out your drink. Consider this.. Last year, we had two true freshman and a true sophomore starting in their second games against Bama. We held the point of attack admirably under the circumstances. Last week was bad. That means Flood and Sark are going to be all up in their asses the entire week making sure that we don't get our balls kicked right up the middle. Last year, Sark did a masterful job of scheming to take pressure off of the OLine. I expect him to do the same against them this year. I also expect our starting lineup to be Banks, Umeozulu, Majors, Hutson, Jones. Neto was just better than Robertson last week. He moved guys in the run game, and played pretty cleanly in pass pro. Hutson coming back gives more experience to the line in pass protection. We can't afford to have a hobbled Campbell to go along with a mentally struggling Campbell, but I do expect him to get more shots throughout the season. Add a year of strength and weight, and subtract a couple of first and second round picks from the defense, and I think the line has a better performance than most people think.19 points

I know I said it before but it is amazing to watch the minting of a future national hero that a country will reference for hundreds if not thousands of years as a mountain of a man and hero. Ala what were were taught in grade school about George Washington. It is fascinating.14 points

I think we could have named the score with Rice, but Sark had different goals. Someone here commented that Sark was dumb going long when the short game was there all night. Does this person not think Sarkisian saw this opportunity. Of course he did. The long ball is the dagger we need against quality opponents. I think it was wise to work on it against Rice. Even if it never looked very good, those game reps and film study afterwards will pay dividends down the line unless you think that Ewers just cannnot connect on the long ball ever. We will see the short game this week against the Tide. We will see a lot of shit. If they work, then the long ball is poised to punish Alabama for playing too close to the line. Receivers downfield will likely be a little more open with room to adjust. Not saying Rice has a better secondary. Am saying Rice saw a lot of long balls and played it. I expect Ewers to be sharp. I expect the whole team to be focused for this contest. I feel like we take them, but I would not bet a penny on it.12 points

ERCOT paid a crypto miner $31.7 Million to shut down during the heat wave. They made more in these energy credits than they did in Bitcoin. Truly remarkable business model our state government has enabled. you could sum up altuve's career dominance with one sentence they said last night: "this is altuve's first career regular season game with three homers, of course you'll remember he had a 3-homer game in the playoffs against chris sale and the red sox." yeah, that's reggie jackson territory and october is what makes you great. i used to deny that, because of biggio and bagwell, but it's true. i loved the 1980's astros, i loved the 1990's astros. i loved the killer b's. even derek bell. i loved how mike hampton could hit, and i loved that moises alou washed his hands in piss. i loved all that shit. but this era is different. these guys are bigtime. they don't fold in rough matchups in the playoffs or wilt against tough pitchers. we punish tough pitchers and ruin top closers. we wreck dreams. and yeah, the scandal maybe bonded us fans closer to the team, and maybe i have some bias towards altuve because he not only wore it, but thrived off it. and i'm ok with that. the article in the ny post last year hit the nail - "it's time to stop blaming altuve for the cheating scandal. (1) he didn't use it, (2) the booing makes him better and he's kicking our ass. (3) please stop." by all accounts, they are all great players and all great ambassadors of the game and especially great representatives of the houston astros. who knows how the next several years go, but i have altuve as the goat, and biggio/bagwell on astros mount rushmore. and everywhere we go, people will continue to boo altuve while he poses for pictures with your kids and signs all their autographs and tosses them batting gloves and jerseys. that's just who he is, before and after the nonsense.11 points

?? I hated the shit out of Thomas Herman III, but no, getting his team up for a big game is basically what he did best. His teams didn't show up against lesser opponents - Maryland, losses to meh TCU teams, Tech his first year. Same shit he did at UH. 2017 - 3 point loss @ #4 USC, 5 point loss to #12 OU, 3 point OT loss to #10 Ok State, won the bowl game 2018 - dominating wins over #22 USC, #17 TCU, #16 Iowa State, beat #7 OU in the Cotton Bowl and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl 2019 - 1 possession loss to #6 LSU and #6 OU, beat #16 KSU and #11 Utah in the bowl game 2020 - 4OT loss to OU, beat #6 Ok State, 3 point loss to #13 Iowa State, destroyed Colorado in the bowl game10 points

I agree with this. I still have my doubts with Sark, especially his tendency to turtle with 14-pt leads when we didn't have the defense to get away with it (not that it's ever a great idea anyway). But, I don't doubt his ability to get his team up for the biggest games. Herman's teams showed up scared, and Strong's teams showed up lost. Sark's team came out looking for a fight in the two biggest games last year -- Bama and ou. Now, again, I expect our guys to believe that those are equals on the other side, not superiors, and for Sark to put our guys in position to make big plays. I don't know if we'll win, but I know we won't show up scared, and that alone is a hell of an improvement. 27-20 Texas. Fuck it, I'm in.10 points

I'm all in on Sark. The questions on his play calling and schemes are warranted because they are inconsistent as fuck. However, like we saw last year in the Bama game, Sark and the team were dialed, for sure when Ewers was in there and somewhat with gimpy Card. I think we'll see the same Sark and team this week against Bama, or at least I'm praying like a mofo that we do. This team wants Bama, this team knows they should've beat Bama last year, this team knows they can beat Bama this year.10 points

Nope. It’s situational. Corn tortillas are clearly better for enchiladas and tacos. But for a burrito or as a side bread, to use as a utensil, pushing food into your spoon/fork, flour tortillas are the only way to go. And as I’ve shared before, growing up in rural Northern NM, overwhelmingly Hispanic area, in which the older generation only spoke Spanish, all the abuelitas had a daily supply of fresh flour tortillas cooking. That smell of fresh tortillas, cooked on the wood stove cooktop, as I came in with my buddies from a morning or afternoon traipsing around the mountains and arroyos, is indelibly burned into my brain. One of the best tastes in the world is some fresh butter slathered on a hot flour tortilla, fresh from the stove.9 points

circling back... 1. altuve is the greatest astro of all time already. better than biggio and bagwell. yes, already. postseason homers > career war. but he'll get where he needs to with career war, unless helo is right and he's slowing down and about to fall off a cliff. 2. "would he make the hall of fame right now" is a ridiculous question rooted in confusion. if he retired at the end of this season, said it's been fun, but he wants to go build houses in venezuela, he would get elected to the hof, though there would be some drama because of the limited number of years removed from what is seen as a "tainted" season. straight performance-wise, he's in. guys with short careers don't have to hit big counting numbers, they just need to show their excellence during their career, which jose has already done. reference the postseason homers again. kirby puckett is a good recent comp here. koufax is an older one, but he was one of the best to ever do it. *now if the question is "are his numbers good enough right now to get him in during a full career where he plays until he's 38-40 years old?" well that's a different question not based in reality. sure, if he plays another 6-7 seasons and hits .210 every year with 6 bombs and 33 rbi and becomes an anchor on the team, yeah, he's probably not a hall-of-famer. but that's not what the question is. when people say, "has he already done enough and is he a hall-of-famer", the presumption is that he'll continue his pace with the usual human decline, and retire when great players retire. if that's what happens, he's a hall-of-famer. and the greatest astro of all time. he's the leader of the unquestioned golden-age astros dynasty. come on, people. do better.9 points

Colt was literally the most accurate passer in football history when he played. His 2008 completion percentage was 76.7%. That is fucking nuts. He connected on more than 3/4 of his pass attempts. And his passes were on the numbers in stride, that dude could fucking sling it. I guess my point is that comparing Quinn Ewers to Colt is as silly as comparing Sam Ehlinger to Vince Young. Colt wasn't just good, he was one of the single best players in college football history. That he didn't win a heisman is a fucking travesty. It's not like Colt was merely good. Colt McCoy was all-time great.9 points
