  1. Here are the 2023 composite rankings of dozens of objective systems of these two sets of opponents. Rankings from here: https://masseyratings.com/ranks?s=cf 2023 Big 12 final 5 regular season games: #76 BYU #15 Kansas St. #53 TCU #35 Iowa St. #38 Texas Tech 2024 SEC final 5 regular season games: #111 Vanderbilt #59 Florida #81 Arkansas #41 Kentucky #34 Texas A&M There's definitely someone in this discussion who is blinded by BS, but it's not who you think it is. I was wrong, though. The Big 12 stretch isn't just comparable, it's objectively tougher than the SEC stretch. You better hope they all get better for your argument, because you need them all to improve by an average of 22 ranking spots to even up those schedules. Holy shit the SEC top-to-bottom toughness is such bullshit.

  7. COLUMBUS β€” Ohio State has its new athletic director. The Buckeyes, and most notably new university president Ted Carter and outgoing athletic director Gene Smith, have found their new leader of the largest athletic department in the country: Ross Bjork will take over when Smith officially retires in June. β€œFew athletics directors have established such an impressive and strong record of success in athletics, in the classroom and throughout the community,” Ohio State president Ted Carter said in a statement. β€œThe bar is incredibly high at Ohio State, and we have found in Ross a highly intelligent and effective leader – not to mention a fierce competitor.” Bjork is leaving his post as the athletic director at Texas A&M for the same post at Ohio State. β€œI have been extraordinarily blessed to be a product of college athletics as a student-athlete and fortunate to work with so many outstanding student-athletes, coaches, staff and university leaders throughout my career, and Ohio State represents the culmination of these efforts,” Bjork said. β€œTo be a part of Buckeye Nation, along with its storied traditions and long history of achievement, is a tremendous honor and a welcome challenge for me and our family. I can’t wait to get started.” He will begin on July 1. He has been at Texas A&M since 2019, when he took over that athletic department following an eight-year stint at Ole Miss. Despite a hit-and-miss career in making coaching hirings for football and men’s basketball, Bjork is known around athletic circles as a good athletic director who can fundraise and has a vision for the future of college athletics. Now he takes over as one of the most powerful people in the college athletics space. He’ll have a massive responsibility in shaping the next era of Ohio State athletics. Background on Ohio State athletic director search Smith announced in August that he would be leaving his post as the Buckeyes athletic director June 30, 2024. The Ohio State brass immediately went into search mode. Of course, they had to hire a president first, and that came in August. The Ohio State board of trustees appointed Walter β€œTed” Carter its next university president. Carter, 64, had been serving as the president of the University of Nebraska system since January 2020. Carter is replacing former Ohio State president Kristina M. Johnson, who stepped down from her position in May after taking over in August 2020. Carter is due to start his new role at Ohio State on Jan. 1, 2024. Carter and the top Ohio State power players have now found their top name for the athletic director spot, and it comes from the SEC. Bjork, who has been the athletic director at Texas A&M since 2019, was at Ole Miss from 2012-2019, where he oversaw football success β€” and plenty of NCAA involvement because of recruiting violations β€” from Hugh Freeze. Bjork also promoted offensive line coach Matt Luke to head coach before Luke was fired two years later. Bjork oversaw the contract extension for now-former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher before Bjork and his athletic department paid a historic $76 million buyout for Fisher after disappointing seasons in College Station. Bjork then made the hire of former Aggies defensive coordinator and Duke coach Mike Elko as the next Texas A&M head coach. The 51-year-old Bjork has also helped Texas A&M through a great transitionary period of college football in the SEC, as the conference is set to welcome Texas and Oklahoma next year. Before his time at Texas A&M and Ole Miss, Bjork was the athletic director at Western Kentucky and had posts in the athletic departments at UCLA, Miami (Florida) and Missouri. This is a developing story. Lettermen Row will have more information when it becomes available.

  8. We don't know that because it's wrong. And the orange-colored glasses accusation doesn't even make any sense because I'm comparing one Texas schedule to another. You have swallowed the kool-aid but that doesn't mean everyone else has to do it. The SEC is not "top to bottom" stronger than the Big 12 since existence. Its top teams have been stronger over time. There have always been crappy teams in the SEC and there have been at least a half dozen seasons where the Big 12 was a better conference than the SEC (before teams started defecting). It's not naΓ―ve, it's objective fact, at least objective fact from the perspective that I think my objective computer measures are solid. Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas A&M next year is at this point objectively pretty much the same as BYU, Kansas State, TCU, Iowa State, Texas Tech was this year.

  11. Sorry, but anyone who supports Donald Trump these days is a bad person. There's no amount of excuse that can get around this fact. They might treat their friends and family well, volunteer at soup kitchens, donate significant money to charity, etc., etc., but anyone who knows what that monster says and votes for him is a bad person. Period. It doesn't mean you have to cut ties completely, I still associate with some out of business obligations or the like, but in my personal life, I just can't imagine having anything to talk about socially with someone who supports the active destruction of this country and demonization of "others" (of which I am on a few levels) which covers a whole lot of people in this world. Like someone else said, they don't even have to vote democrat to get out of the "bad person" category, they just have to vote for someone else in the primary, and if its trump in the general, not vote at all, or vote third party. Pushing the button for such a despicable human being just cannot be explained away.

  20. I’d never claim Texas. Not cause I don’t like it - I enjoy many parts of the state and its people and cultural contributions - but I’m about as dyed in the wool of an Iowan/Midwesterner as you get. Just seems some days that I might be the last of a dying breed. My grandpa was a state representative for 20 years. He was and still is a Democrat. He has no college education, joined the Marines a month before the Korean cease fire, and then came home to farm. Guys like this used to vote Democrat in the Midwest. Not all, or even a majority, but enough that we could be purple politically. Now most of them either died or turned hard to the right. I’m very much of that political outlook and tradition and it crushes me to see the turn. He had a friend who was a Republican state rep from Alaska who would come down here to hunt pheasant in the 90’s. He’d always say β€œIowa Democrats are just Republicans that don’t want you to die” and I think about that a lot.

  23. There’s plenty of cool shit that no one knows about here, especially in the part of the state where I live. I love my low COL and unfettered access to beautiful outdoor recreation as well as having some thriving small towns with solid food options and legitimately world class breweries. But our politics have gone to shit and I’m grasping at straws on that one. I wish I could write off Trump voters as bad or stupid people, but I know too many who aren’t either. Just got to live through this.

  25. Wife's painting the laundry room for some stupid reason, even though we're going to have the whole house painted in about 3 months. I'm lying on the couch, under the blanket, watching football with the dog lying next to me. Her: Can you come in here when there's a break? Me: No, I'm not going to get up and give you my opinion of how the laundry room looks. Her: Why? Me: Because I don't care and I'm extremely comfortable here. Her: blahblahblah I want to know if it needs another coat of paint! Me: You're the painter! You decide! Her: But I need another pair of eyes! <I get up and go look> Me: I think it looks fine... Her: <pause> I'm going to put another coat on it.

  27. White "Christian" nationalism. They've conflated being a Christian with being an American. In their eyes, the identity is one and the same. Christianity has lost its traditional meaning as a religion and has been supplanted by the worship of race and geography (i.e., blood and soil). Trump is their messiah, here to save both.
