  1. On the bright side, Baker probably coached against most of A&M's incoming portal transfers while at Western Kentucky.

  2. Sark got HIS guy. Was Rod a candidate? Yes. Was O a possibility? My gut says he wouldn't turn down a chance to beat LSU & we had the money to get him here. But if you've been paying attention you'd know that Sark wanted a guy that he knew he could hang onto for a few years to avoid the trouble Saban had at Bama. He saw how difficult it was to have that much staff turnover every year and that's why I think this guy was actually number 1 on the board. So what's he do? He goes and gets an under the radar, up & coming, NFL guy. Make no mistake, people in the Dolphins organization rave, RAVE, about this guy. I had one NFL coordinator reach out to me personally and talk about how this guy is going to be a HC one day. That's how good he is & Sark got him at a discount because he's buying low. This sets up the defensive side nicely because you know what you have in PK, you have a natural successor in Nansen should PK move on, & now you have a guy that can come along after that should he prove himself as capable as what I've been told. Is he going to struggle recruiting? Maybe, but keep in mind the NIL at UT is a huge weapon for every coach & don't be surprised if T-Choice accompanies him when visiting some of the higher profile recruits - at least until he gets his feet under him in that area. All in all this is an B+ hire with a chance for us to look back on it as an A+ here in 3-4 years. It was the best I could do off the top of my head

  4. Death penalty is 3x cost of life sentence. For every 9 executions carried out since the death penalty was reinstated in the 70s, one death row inmate has been exonerated. The murder rate is highest where the death penalty exists, and lowest where there is no death penalty. There is no deterrent effect. The death penalty is 3x more likely based on race of defendant or race of victim. Every study in every state has come to this same conclusion. In Harris county, the death penalty capital of the US, trial courts have almost universally adopted the prosecutors’ proposed findings of facts and conclusions of law in every death penalty case, effectively making judicial review by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals nothing more than a rubber stamp.

  7. Played at Gardner Webb. Coaching gig at Berry College for a while. Coached 5 years at Mercer. Coached a year at Chattanooga. Coached 3 years at WKU. Gets an assistant to the assistant gig at the Dolphins for a year. Now he's replacing Bo Davis at one of the most important position coaching roles at a college blue blood. Seems awesome. I expect this dude to fucking crush it.

  11. No. Stop. Greg Abbott is doing this for a reason. And at the extreme risk (perhaps near-certainty) of stating the obvious, that reason has nothing to do with the border. Greg Abbott presides over a Texas Republican Party that is in the midst of a civil war. His attorney general is a criminal who is leading a campaign to primary most of the Republicans in the House who voted to impeach him (which is the majority of them). Meanwhile, he can't get his legislative priorities passed despite calling four special sessions because--and this is important--nobody in the Legislature gives a shit what Greg Abbott thinks is a priority. And all the while, the realization sinks in that governor is the highest office he'll ever attain. But until he leaves, nobody else can move up the ladder. So to distract from all of that--and that is a lot--he needs an outside boogeyman. And nothing fits the bill better than the feds. Look--I'm as anti-treason as anybody. I think you know that I think treason and insurrection should be met with lead and nooses. I think there should've been a whole lot more Ashley Babbitts three years ago. But let's be smart about this. Abbott is doing this to distract from his own failings, the turmoil in the Texas Republican Party, and the fact that the Republican nominee is an increasingly senile felon, insurrectionist, and rapist. Don't let him do it. Certainly don't let him do it over a stupid park in Eagle Pass. The economy is going great. And the perception of the economy is coming around to the realization that it is going great. The challenger is weak. The fundamentals all favor Biden's reelection. Let's not do anything to upset that.

  14. It sure is fucking annoying that when the supreme court issues a ruling that harms civil rights and democracy, we all must grin and bear it. But when the fascists get the most mild of rulings against them, it's socially acceptable for them to mobilize their state national guard to defy them.

  26. Exactly. Now throw in the cases where people have been wrongly convicted and later exonerated and it's hard to make a case that we should keep the death penalty.

  27. You’re like a child wandering into the middle of a movie. Bo Davis wanted to coach his son, and Texas couldn’t get him in as a transfer until this summer. LSU had no academic shit to get in order because they’re not an academic institution. So they paid him 1.5 and got his kid in and he went back to his alma mater.

  31. I continue to be surprised by the resolve at the top of the Texas world when it comes to the transfer portal. I say this as a clear hedge against what my actual expectations are with remaining talent in the portal (Michigan, Bama, anything from the other schools). Guys from the Michigan defense seem highly improbable to leave if Moore gets the gig. Several are legacies and natives of the state of Michigan. That said, if someone leaves there, the math to make that work in a transfer will be really serious. At some point, for all schools, I assume there is a limit. As well, while the portal window is open, the school admission window is damned near closed at Texas and elsewhere. I will offer the same POV in this regard to anyone like McMillon at UA or talent at UW. If something were to occur, there will likely be very little dry powder left in the next window for anything. Therefore, I seriously doubt anything further happens for Texas in the portal until the late spring period.
