  4. I called his Houston office the other day to voice opposition to this amendment. I had two points: 1. The additional cost for federal, state and local governments. I pointed out that the part of small government should want less regulation and less expense. 2. The elitism. Before I finished saying "my second reason for opposing this the elitist attitude..." before the young woman I was speaking to get really, really hostile. Up to this point, I had made this about the amendment and not what a sniveling piece of shit she works for. I reminded her that I me reasons were straight forward and especially #1 was fair and logical. I could tell she was ready for me to make some kind of Cancun joke but I abstained. So in conclusion, Ted Cruz and his staff continue to be pieces of shit.

  22. I can't help what companies did in the past. I can take a stance on what they are doing now and how they are handling their past. I don't see German companies that were around during WW2 actively embracing their Nazi history. And if they were - i absolutely would be boycotting their products. So when I see Elon Musk acting like a total A-hole about things, you're damn right I am not going to do things that directly puts money in the coffers of his companies. And let's be fair, Musk isn't special in this regard. I make this decision in a lot of companies. Lowes > Home Depot, Target > Walmart, etc. Am I perfect in this regard? No, but I do my best.

  23. so i've been meaning to make a post about this. i've likened it the great chiseling. i think that's where we are. i feel like everything described in this thread is very true and depressing but i think it has something more to do with wealth coalescing at the top, and i think covid accelerated it. where is all the money going? it's all being funneled out of the working class. as a result, the chiseling. everything has to cost just $5 more for this or $3 for that, here's a microtransaction; fees for concert tickets are like 50% of the total cost now, which should be illegal. is that money going to the artist? very rarely. i have a feeling that we are in an artificially good economy. it's all a fucking sham. it's simple math. low unemployment? we have a border crisis! these are both artificial problems. everyone has a side hustle. everyone working two jobs. everyone complains about the tip screen tablet being flipped over, but that's just corporate costs being passed onto the customer. all the money is funneling to the top, as ever, but we've reached a tipping point where the dollars are fewer because wealth is accumulated and just sitting there, doing nothing except act as a societal anchor. so they (everyone selling something) are chiseling. pay your workers less, or only just enough, and try to cut every corner in the name of the next quarter's earnings in a similar manner to how mankind has treated the environment. but i thik it all boils down to the greed and competition of wealth accumulation. who are the shareholders? you? me? our 401ks that we can't access and therefore serve as a bullwark in boosting stock prices? lol. no. i'm not going all bilderburg or whatever here, but i think the competition for fewer and scarcer resources makes people desperate and makes humanity steep in its worst stink. so everyone is hustling to make it, but no one is getting anywhere. everyone around me seems to be fixing, and nobody seems to be building. if any of that makes sense.

  25. Yeah, imagine if entities like airplane and car manufacturers and banks weren't subject to profit accountability, you'd have over leveraged banks failing, car manufacturers begging for government handouts, and airplanes that fall out of the sky or have their doors fall off. Thank god we never have those things thanks to that all powerful for-profit accountability.

  27. Layer on your facts all you want, but we all know it's just that older generations worked harder to pay their own way through school, and kids these days are soft. It has nothing to do with state university tuition being subsidized at 90% or more for boomers and less than 10% now. Those good folks would have never accepted a government handout. We know this to be true.

But having Jerrick Gibson and Wardell Mack in Tier III seems CRAZY to me. So does having Melvin Hills (and I am admittedly SUPER high on this kid's game and motor and probably biased) and Jordan Washington in Tier IV seems too low to me too.

  29. State and Federal funding has dropped from 40% to less than 10% for most schools and yet the state and fed has mandated a massive bloat in required staff to be viable for the students to receive financial aid. So for your students to have the privilege to get gouged on student loans, they had to double the administrative staff and yet still cut everyone funding... There are virtually no offsets and so instead all of the costs go right to the cost of tuition.

  30. Fuck you. I generally always agree with your point of view, but you won't make me feel like some idiotic second-class citizen because I have to live in a rural county. This kind of talk that their votes don't matter has been driven into their minds by the urban elite so much that they believe it. Believe it down to the point where the votes don't matter because too many stay home, why should they vote? I get no funding from the state, none from national level and very little from local. Our volunteers out here in rural Texas pay with their time and checkbooks every time they travel to someplace in county for an event or knock on a door or two. It wouldn't have taken but a one or two percentage increase in rural turnout to make a big difference in the outcome of the 22 elections. But everyone insists that the urban vote will turn us blue and there is no doubt that's where our strength lies. But there are just as many if not more blue voters in counties like Harris that stay home too. And the bulk of all this funds you bitch about were spent in those locales. And the funding has targeted seats that can be flipped, and not all. It is hard to watch some local candidate run for HD or CD and they get no support from the state or DC if their races are considered long shots. They make the effort to run and know they won't win, but they do it anyway because they feel someone has to offer an alternative. But this kind of talk is just as harmful to our chances of winning, if not more, than underfunding. Our rural Dems are ridiculed and laughed down at by the Dunning Kruger assholes, some have their jobs threatened, their kids at school taunted and other slights just for standing up for the party of reason and empathy. It's not a hard decision to stay home and not vote. I don't have all the high level contacts you do, nor those experiences, but I do know rural Texas and the blue voters there, and the challenge of getting them to the polls to vote. I would appreciate you think about those people before you dismiss them as dumbasses from Possum Piss who don't mean shit when it comes to voting. Maybe just keep this logic to yourself, or modify it where you aren't denigrating a large base of voters. We have enough problems with turning out Texas Dems without having our own people telling them they are pointless.
