  1. God forbid my kids encounter the challenges my wife and I did. IVF is often the only hope for some couples. Freezing embryos due to illness, necessity or the myriad of other circumstances is a real thing. If this becomes national, my goodness what a travesty. Us too, right there with you. IUI for the first, IVF for the 2nd and the third natural, born exactly 53 weeks after #2. The chemistry was there, the body was accepting and we got lucky/fortunate our third was conceived w/o any help. I dont know why but this topic just really pissed me off when I saw it on the nightly news last night. I even called my state rep this morning to make voice my take with her. At the risk of going CR, Im considering voting Dem for the first time in my life due to women's body issues. Rant done.

  3. I'm also the parent of two IVF children, and the issue of how to handle frozen embryos is definitely a complicated one, with no historical precedent for the legal and moral questions it raises. I'll share our journey regarding what happened with our frozen embryos someday if anyone is interested, but for now I'll just say this is truly one of the few new things under the sun in a long time when it comes to large moral/ethical questions. Alabama can eat a big bag of southern fried dicks for jumping on this opportunity to simplify it down to something that will appease the unwashed and ignorant masses.

  5. You are way off base with that statement. It's based on fee fees and not material facts. Unemployment rate - 3.5% (It hit 3.4%, which was lowest in 54 years) GDP - 3.3% (higher than all G7) Inflation - 3.1% S&P 500 record high - TODAY All these economic achievements as England/Japan enter a recession. Germany close. Finland/Sweden in NATO Infrastructure Bill Respect for Marriage Act CHIPS Act First Gun-Safety bill in decades Inflation-Reduction Act In no way is that a bad president. In fact, if you read a bit of history, it is probably one of the better resumes. **Border Security Bill torpedoed by House Republicans.

  6. Fuck that inbred piece of shit state, Tommy Tubberville, and anyone else associated with it. The fact Texas is desperately fast-tracking to become Alabama 2.0 is disheartening.

  9. It’s crazy to me that someone with multiple bankruptcies on their resume was ever a viable candidate for president, much less actually elected. That may be at the top of the list of things that should have been a disqualifying factor for voters. Forget that his primary role in society was as a reality game show host, forget all the shit he had said and done that made it clear he was sexist and racist, forget all the aspects of his personal life that made it clear he was not a person of decent moral character and certainly not someone to hold up as an example of family values, forget that he had zero prior experience in government or military or even really leading a business in a role that might somehow approximate a qualification to be president. Just knowing “this motherfucker owned several business that ended up Chapter 11” should have been, on its own, MORE THAN ENOUGH for people to wholly reject his candidacy. I will never get over what a horrible reflection his election was on our society.

  11. This is so maddening. I've been working very closely with Fertility Healthcare for over two years now. About 75% of my billable hours are in support of a Fertility Healthcare company that owns clinics in CA, WA, UT, ID, NV, TN, and VA. The fundies don't want to shut them down because they have "right to life" concerns. They want to shut them down because a VERY large percentage of business for these clinics is for LGBTQIA+ intended parents. It's such a disingenuous culture war play.

  16. Days after Alabama’s Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are children, a second clinic pauses IVF treatment https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/21/us/alabama-ruling-frozen-embryos-facility-pauses-ivf/index.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/power/2024/02/21/embryos-alabama-supreme-court-ruling/ As a parent of an IVF child, this is disheartening. I have 3 teen daughters and it is beyond ridiculous. At issue is a Mobile, AL hospital was sued when a patient somehow wandered into the lab and destroyed an IVF procedure; the patients sued the hospital for wrongful death and State Supreme court ruled in favor of the plantiff. Now IVF is haulted statewide.

  20. 1980s was when people first started hearing about anaphylactic reactions on a large scale. Naturally it caused a panic, and parents' knee-jerk response was to stop exposing their young kids to allergens out of worry, which backfired pretty spectacularly. Allergies were not well understood. Current practice is to introduce kids to allergens at a younger age, instead of giving them an aseptic upbringing.

  21. I was told by Fox News that Trump should be number one. Oh well. I actually agree with Lincoln first with the whole Civil War thing plus being a vampire killer, and Washington and FDR second. I think LBJ should be higher. While Vietnam was a shitshow it shouldn’t all be on him since that conflict really started years before he ever took office. His domestic accomplishments often get over shadowed for some reason. His legislation for Civil Rights, the voting rights act, war on poverty in America, environmental legislation, public broadcasting (which lead to programs like Sesame Street), school funding for poorer areas, head start program to help feed poor students, starting Medicare and Medicaid programs for the poor and seniors, national endowment for the humanities and arts, and naming the first African American to the Supreme Court (Thurgood Marshall). His initiatives were for the good of this country and to help those that needed help the most. He should be above Obama. CSB/ but I spent my senior year at UT writing a thesis on the Vietnam War and had access to LBJs personal documents at his library. It was awesome reading presidential briefs with LBJs hand written responses on them saying shit like “go tell that cocksucker McNamara to go fuck himself” and all sorts of comments like that.

  27. It’s insane. I left Republican Party behind a couple of years ago due to this shit being on the horizon and other matters. I am comfortable being an independent. This shit infuriates me. Handmaidens tale shit. As a woman, the lack of understanding of the host of issues we go through during pregnancy is ridiculous. not to mention trying to put this “save the babies” label on absolutely everything related to pregnancy. We have 7 million children involved with CPS and over 400,000 in foster care. But these “children” don’t matter just the ones who haven’t been born yet. Their personhood matters more than anything else. Thats what my former party is telling me. And many of the laws like this being created on the fly are just the tip of the iceberg. They do not care about the problems this creates in the future because they WON the main issue. They will just start rounding us up when pregnant and putting us in camps. That’s what it fucking feels like at this point and what’s even sadder is they feel they are morally right and have a mandate.

  34. At some point my number was associated with my grandfather on whatever list they use to pester people, so every election season every fucking GQP roach running for office spams my phone with this shit trying to get him to give them money. And I can always tell when Trump is about to take a big "L" in the courtroom because his people will start blowing my phone up with this shit. I didn't mind it when my granddad was still alive because my intercepting these things kept him from getting robbed blind, but now that he's been gone for a few years I'm kind of over it. This one came in about 10 minutes ago and is probably the fourth or fifth one I've gotten over the last three days or so.
