How can one person be such a failure of a human being …. Mitch McConnell is the reason why the United States hasn't passed a renewed Voting Rights Act. He is the reason why the United States hasn't passed democracy reform. He is the reason why Donald Trump is still able to run for office (he had the opportunity to end this nightmare but didn't). Mitch McConnell is the reason why Roe v. Wade was overturned, and why IVF is now illegal in Alabama. McConnell is responsible for turning the U.S. Senate into the House of Representatives. McConnell has never been a friend to labor, the environment, or responsive to climate change. History, if it remembers him, will remember him for the things he did, and the things he prevented. He put his own ambitions before the needs of the United States whenever he could.13 points

Voters will be reminded of Trump's chaos the second the race becomes 1v1 and people start paying attention in the summer. GA - re-elected a Dem Senator in Biden's first midterm (should have been an auto pickup for the GOP) and Trump's meddling in the GA election absolutely has pissed off enough people. Kemp won because he was anti-Trump. State GOP is broke broke. AZ - elected a Dem governor, AG, SOS and Dem Senator in 2022. State GOP is in shambles. WI - re-elected a Dem governor in 2022 and flipped their state Supreme Court in 2023. The Wisconsin assembly, for the first time in decades, is competitive and actually get people to turn out and vote this year to try and flip it (plus half the Wisconsin senate, which has flippable races due to new maps) Not to mention the absolute chaos that is Michigan GOP (which also re-elected their entire Dem slate of candidates in 2022 and the GOP is broke and leaderless)10 points

Here's a link to an aggy trying to convince folks A&M is special while admitting it's a cesspool. https://glasstire.com/2015/06/07/the-cult-of-memory-at-texas-am-2/ If universities project their sense of identity through their campuses, the usual image is one of gravitas, beauty, and intellectual openness (university shares the same root as universe, after all). Think stately, gracious, ivy-covered buildings of stone or red brick. By contrast, Texas A&M is a fortress: a sturdy, solid, no-frills series of beige bunkers that convey something of a siege mentality. It projects intellectual safety, rather than intellectual openness. At A&M, you get the sense that sharing in the experience of the group is more important than striking out on one’s own as an individual. The place is also covered with bronze statues, plaques, and other memorial signifiers. I’ve heard there’s more bronze at A&M than at any other university in the country (unverified, but could be true). Every brick has a name. Every bench has a plaque. Almost nothing that can have been given a veneer of meaning has been left untouched. While it’s true that all universities have their traditions and memorials, A&M takes this notion to a whole other level.10 points

Most of the people in the US don’t even know what the Panhandle is. Shit, people in Texas don’t even know what the Panhandle is. Most people don’t know the Panhandle has the nation’s second largest canyon in Palo Duro canyon. Humble brag picture of my family’s ranch below—view from the front porch. And I understand controlled burns but it’s windy there. Windy all the fucking time. Like we are used to 20-35 mph winds and many times double that. The wind is a huge factor. We have mostly mesquite trees and prairie grass and fucking tumbleweeds. One of my good friends is helping to organize places for people to bring their livestock and other animals. The thing is this could shift any time with the fucking winds. And be like a raging inferno. If I have something to post on how people can assist I will do that (vetting what I post already.) the Palo Duro Canyon is beautiful and a treasure. I shudder to think if the fire goes in the canyon. It’s scary. It’s mainly short grass and brush/bushes. It’s not a ton of overgrown shit.9 points

He's saying that he hates the idea of kids from non-religious families hobnobbing as peers with his children being raised to worship god and ask no questions. Basically, NIMBY, but for religious schools. He doesn't want those filthy philistines flooding his christian school and potentially exposing his children to outside ideas.7 points

This is true. Twitter the past couple of days has been massively confused over "Canadian fires" references, but in Texas. Also, the Canadian River Breaks area is one of my favorite vistas anywhere. On our trips to NM and CO, that drive up 87 out of Amarillo or the Tascosa Road near Boys Ranch just hits different after hours of flat pastureland.7 points
