  1. I've had some friends at the practices who have all of the credibility any of us would want in observers. These couldn't be more high on the UT supply if it were being pumped into them intravenously. They're usually eeyores. -No one is worried about DT. They have SEC level talent and depth. They're going to do some things differently than what they were able to ask of Sweat. "Georgia didn't replace Jordan Davis with another Jordan Davis" and such. -Mitchell isn't accounted for as a serious impact on the depth chart and is a prime transfer candidate. There's a lot going on with this one. -They've got to lose 4 or 5 guys and there isn't a bunch of fat left on the roster. Some guys are going to leave that folks would rather not lose, but they're running 3rd string due to the extensive depth. -Burrell, Bryant, Mitchell, one of the NBs, maybe a WR, Cojoe, Kirkland, Agbo, Swanson, Red - there's talent there that could be starting somewhere else. Not saying any particular one of those guys is gone, just saying that somebody has to be before August. -Chatman may have passed Cojoe at RT and Baker is working out there too. -If a quality DL enters the portal and they're not already earmarked somewhere, Texas is interested.

  4. It's not that complicated. Lacey is committed, so it's fair to say the staff like him a lot compared with other options. He's also a QB prospect from a region where talent rarely leaves. If you honestly think he could be your QB of the future when given the chance to take his commitment, you take it, and with it, the opportunity to influence his visits. Russell is an ascending, in-state QB prospect with a prototype build and big arm. While he's very familiar to Sark and Milwee (from recruiting Simmons and Dakorien Moore), we already chose Lacey over Russell when the staff offered Lacey. With that context, choosing to recruit Russell now shows they've watched his development and can more confidently project his growth into something they want to work with. He's not nearly as polished of a thrower, but Russell's ceiling is significantly higher than Lacey's, even in Sark's offense. Also, Dakorien Moore. Imo, we sign both. If anything, the portal gives more reason to join a 2 QB class, not less. Out of high school, you can choose where you think gives you the best opportunity to be developed. When you fail to win the starting job, you find an ideal offense with an opening at QB. Literally the best of both worlds. Even if we don't sign both, what do we lose if Lacey bounces? A generational prospect? No. The chance to land Ryan Williams? No. We lose a good QB prospect, but that's it. Choosing not to recruit Russell creates more downside risk than losing Lacey. Imagine impacting your relationships at Duncanville, Dakorien Moore, THSCA, etc over trying to keep KJ Lacey committed. Malpractice.

  5. I don't want to speak for @mdmost, but I also have generally been sympathetic to Israel. And for a long time, there were good justifications for that sympathy. From a national-interest standpoint, Israel was a staunch ally in the Eastern Mediterranean facing Soviet-backed enemies. Its position near Suez and straddling the Eastern Med into the Middle East makes it strategically important. And in the binary world of the Cold War, if it wasn't going to be our ally, it was going to be the Soviets'. From an emotional standpoint, yeah--it's easy to agree that the Jews ought to have a safe space given the unpleasantries of not just the past century, but the centuries before that. And as one of the sponsors of the establishment of that safe space (along with the rest of the UNSC), we owe some obligation to ensure that it remains safe. But those justifications are rapidly fading into the ether of history. The Cold War is over. And while the Soviet threat is somewhat replaced by threats from China and Russia, Israel is not exactly a reliable ally in any sort of anti-Russian or anti-Chinese bloc. As we try to build alliances in the region to address regional threats, Israel is often more of a hinderance than a help. And while creating a safe space for Jews in the Levant made sense, I don't think we ever signed up to support a starvation genocide of the Palestinian Arabs. And if we did, we ought to un-sign right the fuck now. Because "Never Again" shouldn't be read as "Never Again to us, but maybe it's ok if it's by us against some other group." When Secretary Blinken was in Jerusalem last week, the Israelis announced the largest seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank since 1993, with the land to be converted into settlements. That's not how you treat the foreign minister of your most important ally. And now Israel isn't sending a delegation that was summoned by the United States? As @Brisketexan asks, what exactly does Israel think the power dynamic is in this relationship? Israel obviously thinks that the United States is some sort of vassal state that owes it an unquestioning obligation to supply it arms and money in times of war. Israel should be disabused of that notion. If Israel wants to be an ally, then it can start acting like a fucking ally. But if it wants to be our feudal lord, then fuck that--we ought to declare our independence and cut Israel off.

  14. I am not particularly surprised, nor to the disappointment of some on this board, do I feel like this is letting Trump get away with things no other person or company would ever be allowed to do. My last “the Louisiana Supreme Court would never grant this bullshit writ after the trial court and appellate court snuffed it“ moment happened just three months ago. So to lawyers, appellate courts doing things for reasons they can’t figure out is just Tuesday, not some overriding conspiracy. Here, it is not really contested that giving him more time is of benefit to the many secured creditors as well as all of the various lessees inhabiting his buildings. While we all hate Trump and just want bad things to happen to him, there is collateral damage in these types of decisions that can affect the innocent. The great thing is that this situation unveiled the truth of his being deeply in debt at high interest rates on all of his properties, with the revelation that none-have any equity to speak of. I would assume the lack of acceptable collateral applies to a $175 million bond as well as it does on the $453 million bond. He has to find the money somewhere. And if he is putting it into a bond, he is not spending it on his mounting debts and daily expenses running his Ponzi Empire. That shit ton of daily interest on the judgment grows either way. I am fine watching this play out the way it’s played out. I know many people are wearing sack cloth and ashes today, but I doubt they are popping champagne corks at Mar-a-Lago given they have 10 days to find the $175 million.

  20. Well this morning I zipped over the hill into the UAB Medical Megaplex downtown, docs think a simple zapping operation has an 8 to 9 out of ten chance of me winning the non-brain-tumor lottery. I'm gonna get a LINACC treatment, Linear Accelerator treatment. Tech said it was better than Gamma Knife. What they do is literally bolt your head immobile inside this sort of form-fitting Power Ranger mask that fits only you. We did this today. The mask melts to your face. THE MASK MELTS TO YOUR FACE. I said, th'motherfuckin MASK melts to your FACE, maaan. OK, not boiling hot, but you are aware that it is warm. Then you are bolted flat inside your cooling-and-hardening mask and they run test CT scans so they can come back after a week of calculations and zap through the mask at the precise angle. Dude said they usually swing the radiation blasts around in a circle aimed at the tumor, so most of your brain gets nothing, small strips get a minor dose, and the target at the center writhes in the wrath of 100 exploding suns. I gotta admit I found all this ghoulishly enjoyable and better than any ride at Space Mountain. It made up for the nurse getting the yips and stabbing three perfectly good veins before she could start my thingamabob for them to pump hot radioactive contrast in my body. But we who are about to receive super powers must be patient with our fellow Earthlings. After the treatment I get to keep my bespoke mask. When Day of the Dead comes around, if I am not actually dead, I plan to paint it up like some Pre-Hispanic Death God maybe with some big green feathers sprouting in a circle off the rim where they bolted it to the back half.

  21. I think I've told this here before, but... The GF is divorced, but stayed close to her ex-husband's cousin (who lives nearby). I like her. Her parents recently died, but her dad was super cool. He was a lifelong New Yorker. Princeton grad, the whole thing. Belonged to the Westchester Country Club for decades. When they got to the age that they needed help, they moved here to be close to the daughter. Anyway, we are having lunch with all of them, and Trump is mentioned. GF says "Uncle Arthur, did you ever have any dealings with Trump?" Arthur frowns and says "I was only around him as it relates to golf, and he's a damn cheater". He goes on to tell the story of good friend of his playing a round with Trump and a couple of other guys. Trump tees off, and they all watch his ball go into the trees. They are all looking for the ball. Arthur's friend finally spots a ball...bends down and sure enough, the ball has a Trump logo. Right at that moment, he hears Trump yelling "found it" from the fairway.
