  1. Got some pretty good ones. including totality with solar flares only visible. Incredible. Got completely dark out here west of Austin.

  8. Hi, thought I'd chime in, to no one's anticipation. Weather - clouds could break, but I did a look-see of the GOES satellite and clouds are thickening from the SW (where this flow is coming from). Still could easily be breaks in the clouds here and there, but generally not going to get an unobstructed total view, which is amazing. My guess though is clouds slightly worsen as the low in Nevada starts throwing clouds our way the rest of the morning. Hope there are some peepholes though. Eclipse tidbits: 1) Once the sun *completely* is obscured by the moon, it's absolutely ok to look at it without eye protection (no "hidden" damaging rays or whatnot). But once *any* (and I mean even .001%) of the sun breaks back out, you'd better not be looking. Everyone's retinas are different - mine can absorb a quick glance but some people get permanent blind spots. Know the start and end time to within a few secs. 2) Don't waste time jacking with equpiment and miss it. Take a picture or video but the best part is experiencing it with full attention. Trust me on this. Plus there will be billions of pictures/videos of it, even if you pride your own. 3) If you've never seen a total, it's galactically different, and I mean hugely, than even a 99.99% partial. The coolest thing you can experience is that last .01% shadow of the moon creeping over the land and then at your site. Everything changes in an instant. You go into a completely different world with that .last .01% disappearring. 4) How dark does it get during totality? NOT 100% black. More like 30 mins. after sunset. Dark blue. But that amazing black disk above provides a sort of heavenly shadowy light. Nothing like it. I'll leave you with a shot I took of the 2017 clipse in Illinois, ironically enough the exact same spot where this one will cross (center of the "X" of the two tracks if you will). I had enhanced the moon's blackness a bit in this (not totally, pun intended) as often the sun, even eclipsed, will bleed into the black moon and wash it out (doesn't happen with naked eye). Hope you can get a peek at least. Nothing like it (alas, on a clear day, though). 2017 (sky is about the right color, in real life maybe a shade darker (camera tried a bit to adjust the light, but it's about 90% accurate IMHO):

  17. I get teased daily that I’m the Rainey Street Ripper. I mean it’s cool bc now my inbox isn’t flooded with crap anymore. Plus, I’m notorious now. I’ve been on X lately a lot more bc I’m following a case of a young boy in Tennessee who went missing. He has autism. Someone very close to me has autism and this particular case strikes a chord with me. At any rate, most people are good people that follow this case. but There are a few though that will find every tweet you make and attack you for thinking his mom/stepdad might be guilty. I used to respond to those attacks. It’s not like they stopped attacking and they agreed with me they just kept posting and attacking and I’d attack back. and it derailed a very good thread regarding theories and information on this young boy. Finding him is so important. After that I no longer acknowledge. I just ignore. And keep ignoring. I don’t block anyone on the chance they might have good info but now that I ignore people instead of trying to make them agree with me, it doesn’t bother me anymore and it won’t derail threads. The OP can deal with it. Jmo. My two cents that no one asked for ever. Looking forward to returning to Austin at some point and hanging out in the entertainment district. Check out the lake and order some Chilean sea bass (the epitome of class and elegance in fine dining.)

  18. Man, that was fucking incredible. We ended up on the shore of Richland-Chambers lake at a public boat ramp park and there were only 3 other cars out there to see the eclipse. The clouds started to break on the way out there and by the time we started to notice it getting darker it was pretty much clear. We had ~3:30 of totality pretty much unobscured, so I'm very glad we decided to take the kids out of school and still go for it. Thank you to the people on this thread for saying 99% isn't in the same ballpark as 100%. Taking the glasses off and observing totality withe naked eyes is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. We could've stayed home and seen 98% coverage, but... ain't no fucking ballpark, ain't even the same league, it ain't even the same fucking sport. No traffic at all going or coming. Got back home around 4pm and the heavens opened up about 4:15. I'm feeling so damn lucky that everything came together like it did and that we got to experience it as a family.

  19. I went out to a private park on Lake Travis. It was mostly cloudy, but the a few minutes before totality, and for all of totality, we got break in the clouds. It definitely lived up to the hype. Glad I kept my kids out of school and took them out with me, it was fun to experience with them.

  22. The most unexpected part for me was at like 98-99% and it still looked somewhat normal outside and I’m thinking, β€œwait, is this gonna happen still? Does the ring just disappear or what?” And then HOLY SHIT all at once it just happens.

  32. If we're having an attrition discussion, I look at this way: 3 OLs (we have a bunch of OLs, some aren't going to make the 2 deep, some will see that as reason to leave) 1-2 DTs (unless a terrible hail mary is completed by someone else, at least one big time DT is coming this way) 1-2 Edges (we've just got a bunch of them and not all of them will be making what amounts to even a 6 man rotation at the 2 spots) 1-2 WRs (there are always prima donnas in the WR room, someone will get the itch to walk) 2-3 DBs (again, too many bodies for everyone to make the 2 deep) 1 LB 1 ST 1 TB 1 TE I would be surprised by larger numbers at any position. I would not be surprised by this kind of activity at any of these positions. I would be surprised if there was activity at every one of these positions. You'll get a mix here to get to 7-9 exits and an 84-85 man roster that is damned near fully optimized. As to names, I haven't heard of any. They like guys like Swanson and Burrell and Cajoe. There just aren't many guys that they wouldn't like to keep. I expect some pain.

  33. First, I'm going to get up and chase the wife around the house. She is pretty good between the tackles, but cries like a little girl when she is taken to the turf. So, I plan on losing that fight. Then, I think I'll make some migas. I love that shit on game day. Next, I'm going to grab a beer and hang-out by the pool and grab a little barbeque. Then, I'll go to the game fat drunk and happy and hopefully hang out upstairs in the air-conditioned lounge if it is open. I'll grab a few more drinks and get the wife liquered up. We will probably leave sometime around the end of the third quarter. And if I don't get too buzzed and tired from the heat, I'll chase the wife around again where I think I will win on the second go round. I'll then fall asleep and dream of the upcoming season. Good times.
