Was linked to this thread today. Derka shouldn't be permabaned. I realize who he is as a poster, and as a person, and I understand the viewpoint that someone who apparently has a mental illness to the point that he can't even put a poster on ignore shouldn't be on a webstie like this one...it's not a post without merit. And if I'm Immamac, who deals with so much thankless bullshit for this site becuase he also loves it, I can totally understand where he's coming from, and this decision. Does/Has Derka get special treatment? Maybe. And maybe he should get special treatment, becuase as other posters have said this board means a lot more to him than it probably does, or even CAN for the rest of us. The guy has been with us for 20 years, and he does create content instead of drive by bullshit, and there is 100% a contingent of motherfuckers on this site who bullies him. And honestly maybe we can give him special treatment because we know Derka has problems, we know how little he has and that so much of it is this community, and because that's who we can be as a community. Sometimes online, even when you CAN defend yourself online and the wannabe bullies and cowards can't handle it, then the just try new and other ways to be bullies and pieces of shit and fuck with your life. And that's what a lot of bullies do, they don't like you or what you say so they find some other way to attack you, usually becuase their own lives are such worthless pieces of shit. I know a little but about that personally. They can't handle you with their own posts, so they'll try another way to fuck with your life. Unfortunately for Derka, a chunk of this community is his life, and it's pretty easy for people online to fuck with his life as a result. I'm sad to see him go. And for everyone who said he's a cancer, who whined about him not just hitting ignore and learning to grow up, that's a fucking two way street. Any of you could have put him on ignore at any point and been the non-mentally ill adult in the room. Or could you? Thanks for your patience, @immamac. You do a ton for this community because you also love it, and many just don't recognize it.23 points

Everyone treats Derka like shit and then freaks out when he blows up and then we do the same thing all over again. Let’s all just calm down. What I’m trying to say is that Derka is Hamas and Surly is Israel. And I support Hamas. That came out wrong but the point stands.19 points

Except he WAS hurt. He DID have an allergic reaction. Just lucky enough that it wasn't so severe as to take him out of action. "The bullet only grazed him, so no harm, no foul" isn't the flex you think it is. Kids who were responsible 1) asked him if peanuts could kill him, 2) clearly heard the answer of "yep, they can," and then 3) chose to put the peanuts in his clothing with that knowledge. They got off with a fucking slap on the wrist. But you wanna know who got relentlessly punished for the event? THE VICTIM. The culture out there in LT, which is sick as fuck, has relentlessly hounded him and harassed him for getting the WRONGDOERS in trouble. Because....and this is very, very, very very important....the wrongdoers are good at football. Fucking bullying in the first place, and then relentless retaliatory bullying. What a shithole of a community. Lots to be proud of out there.17 points

Okay, just got the chance to hop on here about our experience. We went out to a ranch in Llano, had a group of 17 folks camping out there. My wife's cousin is a hot-shot astronomer, and they have a group that travels to see as many total eclipses as possible, so we were talking about plans and best ways to make this local eclipse happen starting four years ago. We go great weather, and the best wildflower display in 20+ years -- was really cool to show Texas off to them, coming from AZ, CA, PA Germany, and Spain. Several beloved family members, but also their friends. And....we knew these were "hotshot astronomers," but we really didn't realize HOW hotshot. Sunday evening, we're gazing up at the night sky and getting some explanations from the woman who fucking LEADS the SSDS (the project that is literally mapping.....everything in the universe. All of it. The whole known universe. You can watch her damned TED talk about it). That evening, I got to sit by the fire and sip a beer as she quizzed my wife, with genuine curiosity, about some big theological questions. I just sat there, drank my beer, looked at the stars, and listened to two incredibly smart women engage each other. And we got to hang out with the head of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, who is fucking cool as hell. Oh, and he gets to be in charge of building and stoking the campfire -- it's his thing, don't take that away from him. Or Bernhard, who is an eclipse junkie, and also in the Nobel Prize talk for his work in mathematics and AI (he's a pioneer of "causality," using math to determine whether different astronomical phenomena are coincidental or caused, in short form. His work helped find exoplanets, including the first one found in the habitable zone). Also, he fucking loved my brisket, and ate it three meals in a row. We were like everyone else, tracking the clouds carefully, gambling on whether we should stay where we were or try to chase it. Bernhard chose to chase it, and he got a good view. We chose to stay, and we got a perfect view -- the clouds broke a few minutes before, and stayed clear the entire time. I don't know what I was expecting....but what we saw was MUCH more awesome than I expected. We were all grinning and laughing and patting each other on the back at how amazing the experience was. We hung out after and had a nice lunch, then broke camp a bit earlier than planned because of the forecast for stormy weather. Several of them didn't have a place to stay Monday night because they'd planned on camping. We have lots of room in our house, so we told them to bunk with us, and they did. That evening, we sat around the table bullshitting, eating leftovers (Bernhard heated up brisket, again), and just having a damned pleasant visit. Again, with people who have their own freaking Wikipedia pages. We have an invitation to come and stay in Heidelberg now. AND....Bernhard's wife is Spanish, and has family in the zone of totality for the August 2026 eclipse that will pass over Spain, so we started talking plans for that. It was an amazing experience on its own, objectively. It was made even better by being in a place so near and dear to us, that we could show off with some pride. And then made even better by experiencing it with family and new friends. TLDR: if you haven't experienced a total eclipse, and think it's no big deal, think again. It's a top-5 lifetime experience, highly recommend. And experience it with great people, that makes it even better. Oh, I still need to get a good emailed version of this, but this is a shot of the photo up on my TV - Bernhard shared it with us all Monday evening. He has a friend on the ISS, and when he realized when she would be there, he told her the timing and angle to get a good shot of the eclipse. So she took this one, and sent it to him via WhatsApp (yep, they have WhatsApp access on the ISS):12 points

The whole family is fucking rotten. American Patriots, aka dipshit MAGAts, will conveniently ignore that the whole family is bought by foreign countries. https://www.salon.com/2023/08/16/ive-never-seen-anything-like-it-economic-analyst-stunned-at-sources-of-jared-kushners-funds/ Economic analyst Steven Rattner on Monday shared a pie chart showing that all but 1% of the $3 billion in investments in former President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's private equity firm Affinity Partners came from foreign sources after he "spent much of his White House tenure cozying up" to Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman. The Saudis invested $2 billion in Kushner's fund while the United Arab Emirates and Qatar each added another $200 million. About $625 million came from other non-U.S. sources while only $31 million came from sources inside the U.S. Rattner told MSNBC that he's "never seen this" in 40 years in the business. "I've never seen somebody get two-thirds of their money from a single investor. Usually a single investor might be a few percent of the fund, might be 5 percent, occasionally 10 percent," he said. While Kushner has hired some people for his fund, "I've seen nothing else about what he's actually done with the money," Rattner continued. "It is normal to invest this money over a period of several years, so I don't think we can draw a firm conclusion yet. But, again, we're going back to a guy who's a real estate guy, and frankly, not a particularly good one at that, who's suddenly got $3 billion trying to do private equity deals competing against people who've been in this business for a long time. And I wouldn't, if I were the Saudis, count on making a lot of money from this any time soon," he said, adding: "U.S. private equity firms still raise the vast bulk of their money from U.S. investors. This is extraordinary — unprecedented — I've never seen anything like it."12 points

I have all the respect for you, TwiceHorn and all the real lawdogs on this site. I think what has become painfully obvious to many of us non-attorneys is that while this is apparently following the law for the most part -- Cannon's fuckery aside -- but I think what's been illuminated is that this country's justice system is set up in a way that it plays right into the hands of the wealthy. The scales of justice are tilted toward the haves rather than the have-nots. This stands to reason because the system was set up -- and tweaked over the years -- by this wealthy, ruling class for the most part. Of course the rules will favor this sector of the public. These cases against Trump are the highest-profile cases this country has ever seen. Period. There is a massive spotlight being shined on the system and it's forced many of us who don't live it day-after-day like y'all to take a 30,000-foot view and say, "Hey, this system fucking sucks in many ways." Hopefully, we will ultimately get where we need to get. Anything short of Trump convicted and in financial ruins is a loss for this country and the judicial system.11 points

This story pisses me off so much. I have a severe peanut allergy. Fortunately, I've never gone into anaphylaxis, but rather I "just" throw up. Same for all other nuts save almonds. The slow shift from "oh that's awful" to "bullshit, you're not allergic" over the decades is real. So, we get bullies committing battery on unwitting victims. Great. Those kids need to be in jail. The school district definitely needs to lose this lawsuit. Bullshit entitled Texas football meathead mentality.10 points

I love this series. I've been to Osaka twice for work and visited the castle. It's cool seeing it on this show. The entire place was impressive, but the walls were wild. The size of the stones used and how precisely they were fit together was nuts. Here are some not so great 12 year old cell phone pictures.10 points

Caught some of the discussions between Collin Kennedy (OU 247) and Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247). Mostly Collin giving his perspective on Tx/OU recruiting battles. **************************************************************************************************** - OU class numbers - 22/23 takes; expect 2 more today? (Edit Michael Hawkins committed). - Michael Fasusi: Kennedy - close to putting in a CB for Texas. Should be Texas barring change. Right now, OU pretty solidly behind Texas. (Jordan Scruggs said he agreed.) - Cobey Sellers: Kennedy - OU comfortable leader, Aggies pushing, decision July. OU last official. - Courtland Guillory: Scruggs - has a Texas CB, still thinks Texas, but OU may be current leader. Huh. Kennedy - OU suddenly in a really good spot, in play for OU. OU may be at the top. - Michael Hawkins: Kennedy - OU may get him today. (Edit: They did.) - Ty Haywood: Sounds like OU is way ahead of Texas. - Lamont Rogers: Kennedy - Texas made up serious ground ("they had serious ground to make up, that we cannot divulge"), good buds with Fasusi. Business degree very important. NIL. Chris Gilbert - ton of credit. OU in a big fight with Texas, Aggies, Mizzou. Texas vs OU - one rising, one falling. Scruggs - believes Texas vs Aggies, Mizzou 3rd. Flood tells Rogers he (Flood) is not leaving any time soon, Lamont believes that. And that's very important for Lamont and family. Taking several unofficials. Rogers coming to Texas June 14-16, for official. Note - this is his last official. Commitment before end of July, maybe end of June. Lots of things lining up for Texas. Chris Gilbert huge factor, and should get primary credit, if Texas lands him. (FYI - Haywood and Fasusi are 5 stars, Rogers is a high 4 star (#45 overall).)9 points
