  1. These are the stakes in November: The continuation of imperfect American democracy with a moderate Democrat president …. vs …. A violent fascist Christian theocracy, led by a malignant narcissist perpetually lying conman felon wannabe dictator …. ready to impose a cult-backed regime of terror upon women, immigrants, people of color, educators, doctors, scientists, non-believers, and a growing list of others. If zillions of Surly posters can’t see that, then y'all are fucking blind… and … I can only conclude … willfully so.

  2. Here is my voting philosophy: I don’t give a shit about my taxes going up 10% … or getting a tax break … or whatever personal benefit. — When women are running for their lives to get reproductive care or face murder charges for abortion... — When brown people are being herded on trains for the Rio Grande… — When gun-loving racist psychopaths are shooting immigrants at the border, at schools, at Walmarts, etc... — When educators are threatened/fired/marginalized by Christians ready to impose 10 Commandment idiot world Bible school on the secular education systems across America… — When science, scientists, and doctors are under attack by the same idiot world MAGA-GQP. — When environmental regulations are being rolled back wholesale so corporations and polluters can destroy ecosystems and usher in an extinction event. — When MAGA-GQP is a violent hateful cult with a 100% fascist-theocratic blueprint called Project 2025. Any one of those above will have me voting for an old Biden … every fucking time.

  3. “Russia hoax” is a phrase that only the stupidest most gullible cult members spew. Russian state media has been discussing Trump’s conviction and bemoaning the loss of, and here I quote them directly, “our useful idiot.” Congratulations for self identifying as the stupidest of the stupid.

  4. This election is between a Maga candidate and a moderate candidate, so why is the choice impossible for the moderate group?

  5. Its time for the Dems to play by Pub rules. Schumer needs to bring a string of laws up for vote regarding felons. One proposal every week till November. Make pubs vote against proposals regarding crime and felons in government. 1. Proposal to make it illegal for felons to obtain security clearance at any level. 2. Proposal to ban felons from serving at any level in an administration or congress. 3. Proposal to ban felons from being on Air Force 1, Marine 1, or any government vehicles unless handcuffed. 4. Drug test and full body cavity search each time a felon attempts to enter White House. “ Pubs = Weak on Crime. Party of Criminals !!”

  6. bwhahahahahahahahahahahaha Please drug test Trump, please hahahahah Following his felony convictions. Donald Trump was required to report to probation services to prepare a post conviction pre sentencing report for Judge Merchan. Trump blew off the requirement and left the courthouse before he visited with his new probation officers. That may have been a big mistake Judge Merchan depends on the probation report to determine Trump’s sentence. If he cannot follow the rules of probation. Prison may be the necessary sentence. Whether Trump is sentenced to prison, probation or a ‘split sentence’ of prison and probation. Probation services are about to be a big part of Donald Trump’s life. Criminals on probation are supposed to accept their guilt and show some signs of remorse and retribution for their crimes. Trump is not likley to do that. If Trump doesn‘t follow the rules. He can and will be violated and sentenced to prison. As a convicted felon,Trump no longer has the freedoms that are afforded to those of us without a felony conviction. One restriction will be on Trump’s travel. As a convicted felon Trump will need permission to leave his state of residence. His passport will be seized and any foreign travel will be prohibited or greatly restricted by his rules of probation. Not only that but many countries do not allow felons to enter their county. This conviction will drastically change Trump‘s life. I do not see Trump successfully completing a sentence of probation if that is his sentence.

  7. The choice between decency and evil, democracy and dictatorship are as binary as one can get. There is no reasonable disinterest or neutrality here. Everything else can be fixed if Biden wins, but will be permanently set in stone if Trump does. But the ignorant will do what they will and let others clean up the avoidable mess.

  12. I searched for the cheese hinge thread; can’t remember where cheese hinges are readily celebrated but I think it’s here. I made chili cheese dogs. Originally planned to eat normally but it devolved to fork and knife. fried the buns in butter then broiled the cheese hinges. browned some spicy breakfast sausage and added to the chili. pan fried the dogs in the sausage grease. smothered in chili and added more cheese.

  18. I dislike the "only change if you can upgrade" thing that people always say. First of all, no fucking shit. The reason you're thinking about firing a guy is because he's not performing. I also don't think that fear of screwing up the hiring process should keep you married to a poor coach. That's horrible logic.

  19. I’ve been out of this thread as a mental break as I kind of live and breathe Ukraine non-stop. I do not believe that Putin would elevate to the use of nuclear weapons absent a compelling threat to Russia internationally recognized borders. Crimea may be a somewhat gray zone. There is almost no battlefield sense and it would likely tilt the west in favor of intervening directly. The reason he threatens with them so much is because they are of little value militarily, their utility is in the threatening.

  25. yeah, wnba fans constantly try and tell the rest of us that the talent level and the product is actually really good, and it’s just not. it’s pathetic. that is why this league would not exist on its own merit. yet they are given this league by men, and all they do is bitch and moan about all the stuff they deserve that they don’t have, and how men need to give it to them. then when men say things like, “we might watch more if you lowered the rim” they become incredulously apoplectic that you would say something so sexist. the more i’m exposed to the wnba, the more of a joke the league and its players become.

  27. I’d rather they eliminate the whole entire federal student loan program and let education prices adjust combined with a general student loan forgiveness, because the entire program is a scam on middle class people. But the forgiveness is well targeted stimulus at least, which is more than I can say for any of the last 4-5 stimulus programs.

  30. Austinite of the year (under 40 awards) is a lesbian (she identified as queer) woman who is a county judge and leads the court that focuses on diversion for at risk youth. She gave a very short speech and mentioned today (yesterday) was the first day of pride and the crowd cheered loudly. It was really nice. The event was 5 hours long ugh, but it was a nice moment. fuck anyone’s feelings if those feelings are aimed at systematically excluding anyone from the right to participate. I’m so over this shit.

  34. “When he called Mexicans rapists, Republicans moved the line. When he mocked a disabled reporter, they moved the line. When he demeaned John McCain for being a POW and insulted a Gold Star family, they moved the line. When he bragged about grabbing women by the pussy, they moved the line. When he extorted Ukraine, shut down the government to pay for the wall MEXICO was supposed to pay for, took his daddy Vladdy’s side over our own intelligence agencies, said Nazis were “very fine people” and praised murderous despots, they moved the line. When he bungled a pandemic, asked about injecting disinfectants and golfed while thousands of Americans were dying a day, they moved the line. When he refused to accept the results of the election, plotted a coup and incited an attack against our Capitol, they moved the line. When his gilded golf motel was searched by the FBI because he had our national security secrets in his f’ng bathroom, they moved the line. When he was indicted the first time, they moved the line. Then they moved it again for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times. When he was found liable of sexual abuse which the judge said could be referred to as rape, they moved the line. Then they moved it again when he was found liable of business fraud. And now he is a convicted felon. A jury of his peers reached unanimous agreement that he was guilty on all 34 counts, and what are they doing… They’re moving the goddamn line. There isn’t a thing he could ever do that they won’t accommodate. Nothing. He could set fire to the Declaration of Independence while Boerberting Putin and shouting “Death to America” at the same damn time on a TikTok live and they’d twist themselves into whatever the fuck kinda pretzels they needed to in order for it not to cross a line. Because they’re cowards. Craven, cuckholding cowards. And for them, when it comes to Trump, there is no fucking line.”

  35. Hah Hah. Reminds me of this guy I know. Early during the Obama administration, his son was a senior and he told me he was applying to the Air Force Academy. I offered to set him up with a conversation with a recent AFA grad. A few months later I asked and offered again. This time he said. "oh, he isn't going to try anymore. He doesn't want to serve under this Commander in Chief....." Ended up going to atm
