  2. Vogel expounded more on the Kelshaun Johnson recruitment this morning: "Next is 2025 Hitchcock wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson. Of course, one of the larger surprises this weekend was the speedster receiving crystal ball predictions in favor of the Aggies. However, I am here to share the same sentiment. I have been told the Aggies did a great job this weekend and are considered the leaders. Of course, Johnson had an opportunity earlier this cycle to join the Texas class and opted not to. Texas has since moved into great positions for three of the country's top wide receivers and just pushed up the date on Tanook Hines' official visit to this past weekend as well. The writing is on the wall for me in this recrutiment." So they really did go the Nate Kibble route with him - need you to take the offer now or we can't hold it if other things come to light for other targets. Hines is lightning fast as well, plus they're feeling good about Ffrench, Lockett and Moore. I'm guessing they don't really think they're getting both Lockett and Ffrench. This weekend, Texas has Moore, Marsh, Johnson, and McCutcheon set to visit. Seems unlikely that all 4 visit. After that, Ffrench and Lockett both visit the same following weekend. Hines gave ASU a silent commitment in April on his visit. He was part of a tandem expected to go public and give ASU some splash in our area but they never did it. I'm wondering if Hines committed this weekend. If he goes public, Johnson likely doesn't make the visit. Not sure what to make of McCutcheon or Marsh as anything other than backburner options.

  3. More prep work with ATACMS Russian channel ASTRA confirms the info reported by the Ukrainian General Staff. -- During an overnight missile attack on Crimea on June 10, two S-300 complexes and four radars were damaged. The attack involved at least 10 ATACMS missiles, none of which were intercepted. The strikes targeted locations of the 31st Air Defense Division of the Russian Defense Ministry, resulting in one serviceman killed and six wounded. Specifically, four missiles hit the Dzankoyskiy rayon, damaging two radar stations and injuring one serviceman. Another four missiles struck the Sakskiy rayon, damaging military equipment and wounding another serviceman. Two additional missiles hit the Chornomorske district near Hromovka, damaging two radars and two S-300 complexes, killing one serviceman, and wounding four others. The AFU General Staff reported successful strikes on an S-400 anti-aircraft missile division near Dzhankoy, and two S-300 divisions near Chernomorskoye and Yevpatoria.

  5. Absolutely. However, none of us claim to be super-brain-geniuses who are the architects of the future of civilization. Instead, we accurately claim to be a bunch of juvenile assholes who make fun of aggy and and regularly reply "TTIWWP." And in that respect, we're actually kinda funny and cool. Elon is just a tragic dork who isn't as smart as he thinks, isn't funny, and isn't cool. Give a dork several billion dollars.....and he's just a rich dork.

  6. CJ Vogel A post-official visit update on the seven visitors on campus at Texas this weekend and where things are moving for each recruitment. *** WR Tanook Hines – Dekaney (Texas) High Battle: Texas & Notre Dame Trending: Texas over ND Hines was a late addition to the official visit weekend in Austin and snuck in for the weekend. Texas has been pursuing the elite speedster for a while, with visits dating back to July of 2023 and the Junior Day in January. The message to Hines remains on the offensive side of the ball as Hines' 10.45 speed is certainly enticing to the staff. Should the Longhorns take a commitment from Hines, I have a hard time not seeing him in the class. Hines was hosted by Ryan Niblett on the trip. TE Kaleb Edwards – El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge Battle: Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Texas Trending: TBD Texas is heading out west for the talented four-star tight end out of El Dorado Hills. Edwards took his official visit to Austin and immediately departed to Auburn Sunday evening. With Texas set to host three additional tight ends in the class for OV's it remains to be seen where either sit for each other at the moment. Jordan Washington and Spencer Shannon were the hosts for Edwards on the trip this weekend. DL Myron Charles – Port Charlotte (Fla.) High Battle: Texas and Florida State Trending: Strong first OV, ball in FSU's court The first of two Texas and FSU battles in this cycle is brought to us by Myron Charles who departed Sunday afternoon from Austin. The Seminoles will get the final visit this month which could certainly play a factor as the month of July quiets things down a good bit. Texas has been poking around in SEC territory this cycle for defensive linemen and Charles is a big time prospect they are hoping to lure to the Lone Star State. DL Josiah Sharma – Folsom (Calif.) High Battle: Texas and Alabama Trending: Battle brewing Sharma escaped Austin without talking to media, however the early returns are positive on the front of the Longhorns here. Sharma visited for the first time in the spring with his high school coach and the trip was enough to earn the Longhorns an official visit. The relationship with Kalen DeBoer and his staff needs to be mentioned as Sharma was previously committed to Washington prior to his move to the SEC. EDGE Javion Hilson – Cocoa (Fla.) High Battle: Texas and Florida State Trending: Texas made a big jump in this recruitment The Longhorns vaulted into the top two for Hilson who made it known right away the visit exceeded that of his Florida official visit to kick off the month. The city, university and status of the program were all key takeaways for Hilson and his mother – who mentioned to our Gerry Hamilton she prefers the Longhorns. The Florida State pledge will take his official visit to Tallahassee on June 21. CB Caleb Chester – Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall Battle: Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M Trending: Texas out front I have a hard time envisioning a program better positioned for Chester than Texas at the moment. Texas has been pushing for quite some time and the visit continues that momentum. I do not see Chester going too far from home and with Texas A&M stacked up at corner in the 2025 class (four commits already), Texas is the most likely destination. ATH Michael Terry III – San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights Battle: Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M Trending: Texas helped themselves big this weekend Steve Sarkisian's involvement in this recruitment has been a game changer for Michael Terry in the past week or two. There was a lengthy conversation about where the Longhorns envision him at the next level which was received well by Terry. A source has indicated to me that Texas is the place Terry would prefer to be at, however Nebraska has a strong relationship at the moment and there remains some important conversations yet to be had with Terry which will go a long way in this recruitment. ETA full tweet text: Partisan movement ATESH reports that Russian Armed Forces air defense servicemen in Crimea have been instructed to evacuate their families to military camps in the Southern Military District. This directive coincides with the relocation of air defense systems to the Bilhorod region, raising security concerns in occupied Crimea due to reduced coverage. Additionally, the Russian military is forming new mobile air defense teams using ZU-23-2s to counter UAVs, indicating a strategic shift towards this area, with a reduced focus on occupied Crimea. 19. I'm thinking that the deadliest Russian-killing weapon the Finns could give Ukraine is.....some Finns.
    8 points
  20. I'm sure whatever the Fins have cooked up for kiling Russians has got to be pretty badass. Finland handed over new classified weapons to Ukraine Finland has transferred new classified developments of its defense industry to Ukraine. Chief of Arms of the Finnish Defense Forces, Mikko Heiskanen, told STT in an interview that some of them were still under development. He also said that the feedback on these weapons was positive. β€œFeedback on the use of Finnish products has been positive,” said the Lieutenant General. β€œThe experience gained in Ukraine will be useful for the development of the latest Finnish equipment,” the Lieutenant General believes. Finland has released relatively few details about the content of military assistance provided to Ukraine. The country is one of the world’s largest donors of military aid to Ukraine, and its financial assistance has been growing steadily since the start of the full-scale war. Last year, the total amount was estimated at €1.4 billion, which is twice as much as in 2022. Finland notes that supporting Ukraine is fully in line with Finland’s own interests. β€œIn our opinion, it is very beneficial when Finnish weapons reduce Russia’s military potential in Ukraine. And we don’t need to do anything, Ukrainians will do it with their own blood,” said Mikko Heiskanen. As previously reported, Nammo Lapua’s ammunition plant in Finland will increase its output fivefold this year due to the war in Ukraine. Finland, together with its allies, plans to urgently build a TNT production plant. This is due to a critical shortage of explosives in Western countries amid the Russian-Ukrainian war.

  22. Exactly. So now you have in essence a textbook situation for how US ground war doctrine should be implemented. Control the air, use the air to punish any large groups or well dug in positions and use speed to leapfrog and overrun the area. Now combine this with drone swarms and the occasional ATCAMS for positions that would be too hot for the F16s and you could see the Ukraine army advance into Crimea and get to the point that they need to change their thinking from destroying the Kerch bridge to taking it and forcing Russia to either blow it up or potentially having to redeploy their forces into a new bottleneck. The eventual move on Crimea will be the most interesting aspect of how effective the US systems are in comparison to their Russian counterparts. How will Russia respond to F16s launching from the flying with relative impunity over the Black Sea to hammer the bases on the coast of western Crimea (Sevastopol, Novofedorovka, ect.)? Did we (or someone else most likely Poland) send JASSM to Ukraine and how are they used? How effective is the Russian air defenses vs JASSMs? At the 200-400km launch range over the Black Sea the Kerch bridge would be toast if JASSMs are in play. What would this also mean to the Black Sea fleet, based out of Sevastopol? Once sorties start with the f16's, then Russia will either have to commit their fighters out of Belbek/Sevastopol to attempt to control the Black Sea corridor heading south out of Odessa or see everything on the western coast of Crimea start to get hammered. The problem with that is to be able to engage the F16s they need to then leave the cover of even MANPADS and engage over the Black Sea. With the loss of the two A-50s, their detection range will be limited and so we would either expect ship-based naval air radar to be in action (ie sitting ducks well outside of the normal coverage of the land based systems and aircraft and begging for a naval drone or air attack), a continued rotating Russian fighter screen over the Black Sea (which makes them predictable for the F16s to attempt to ambush and isolated), or find some more A50 MANSTAYS to patrol the Black Sea. Regardless what happens, this makes Belbek/Sevastopol the lynchpinfor the region and due to geography very isolated from the west. The other half of this though is that if you try to approach Sevastopol from Odessa and avoid arcs around the Crimea coast due to potential anti air, you are looking to close to max range of the stock f16 engage near the southern Crimea. So now we need to have a discussion about the Ukrainian availability of air refueling assets, AWACS. etc to go along with the f16s. That entire network is a key component on why US airpower is so effective. The issue is that once you get out of the Crimean peninsula and head east of Melitopol it gets much more difficult for Ukraine to control the air, with Russia having the cushion of placing air defenses in Russia proper while still being in effective range. That will be an entirely different discussion for a different day.

  24. Just a few thoughts on this and the overall impact it has on the current situation. The air defenses and their use are the"canary in the coal mine" for the direction of the conflict for the near future. There is definitely a limited supply and limited production. This makes every system lost that much more of a big deal and leads to even more poignant decisions about placement and the value of what to protect. The problem, in part, is the clash in the strategy of how you protect a front with overlapping overages for integrated air defense (ie Crimea) vs protecting a static high-value target (ie individual refineries or Moscow). To keep the integrated system up and running, you need a much higher density of systems in place to cover the same average area as that covered in a standalone placement. So every system sent to protect other targets away from the front has a multiplicative impact. This becomes even more important when you are trying to protect from air sorties from sophisticated fighter aircraft instead of drones and "dumb" missiles. So as they continue to lose systems, then they have to decide do they protect the economic and social targets well off the front, or the troops along a long continued front. This is in part the beauty of their drone strikes and the changes it has pushed in the modern air defense strategy. These strikes are cheap assets to send from an offensive perspective that can force the opponent to tie up a very expensive very limited defensive resource to cover targets so far away from the front that they do not provide any real additive defensive value to the rest of the theater. Right now we are seeing Russia react to the cheap drones vs the various long-range missile systems. It becomes even more complicated when you mix in the F16s. Right now, most of the integrated air defense is somewhat simplified because the shape of the operating theater in most places is about 100km deep in a forward-facing setting backed up against Russia or the Sea of Azov. This only gets complicated when you get S/W of Melitopol into Crimeia, where there are multiple avenues to approach. It is harder to defend when you have to pay attention in multiple directions with little backstop and have to place your systems within the Ukraine vs. in Russia where they have been protected by an ordnance use order. In the near term, the strikes on these systems are great just to see Russia have to play the "rob Peter to pay Paul" resource scarcity game. It becomes obvious to everyone who/what values more depending on where they place these limited assets. Long-term, the continued strikes on the air defense systems are really all just prep for the F16's arrival this summer. But this is one of those times where you can run with the "why not both" gif and be happy. The loss of the two A-50s plus the continued dwindling of the air defenses will make the arrival of the F-16's real interesting later this summer. There is a major chance that we end up with a "split" in how the war is going where Ukraine is dominating the air in Crimea and using that to support a leapfrog advance in Crimea while seeing in effect a "wall" of air defense N/E of Melitopol. At the same time you could see a concerted Russian push towards Slovainsk and continued pressure toward Kharkiv. How both sides react to this will be very telling. The real thing people need to understand is that if the arrivals of the F-16s doesn't radically change the goings on in the overall theater, I am not sure we will see any form of resolution to this in the foreseeable future.
