The Koy family are legends and heroes to our family, because of Ernie Koy Sr. My great uncle played baseball with him at Texas, may have been the first Hispanic letterman in the SWC. Which meant that he ran into a fair amount of racism back in that day. Ernie, a big white kid from Bellville, always had his back. Always. At a game at aggy, one particular fan was ripping on my uncle with all kinds of racist shit. My uncle and the rest of the guys had to hold Ernie back from going into the stands and whooping that guyβs ass. Texas is better because of the Koys. And fuck aggy.19 points

Texas doesn't suck. Texas, the idea of Texas, the food in Texas, and the janus-like ethos of 'rugged individualism' meets 'we're in it together' is amazing IMO. The people that run Texas suck. The people who move here, the people who didn't grow up here, the people who don't know Texas history, the people who cosplay Texan are who sucks. [That's an AND function, not an OR function} Just like our founding fathers, I've met some expats that exude Texan. So it ain't like you have to be born here to exude Texan. True Texans I know are great. The rest of y'all can go to hell.16 points

Bobby Some odds and ends from early workouts: - JayβVion Cole has impressed early in on-field work. - So has Andrew Mukuba. Despite the return of both Michael Taffe and Derek Williams at safety, it is simply going to be very hard to keep Mukuba out of the starting lineup come August. Mukuba is said to be extremely consistent at a fairly high level. - Of the younger OLs, Jaydon Chatman and Brandon Baker both returned from break ready to go. Their athleticism is among the best of all OLs. - Silas Bolden is both quick and fast. And a hard worker. Whatβs more, he adds some much-needed older leadership to the wide receiver room. - Cedric Baxter and Jaydon Blue continue to get the best out of one another. Very interesting competition. Tre Wisner amping up the energy in the group also helps. - Jermayne Lole and Bill Norton, along with Alfred Collins, may end up being the top three interior DLs on the 2024 squad. Lole has looked particularly good and Nortonβs size was perhaps an undeappreciated factor prior to his arrival. - Derion Gullette and TyβAnthony Smith are said to be standing out as young linebackers in the program outside of Anthony Hill.14 points

Different strokes for different folks. I have a ton of "friends" in Houston suburbs who commute hours to work, think a vacation is spending a week on the Frio, who spend every weekend at a baseball/volleyball/soccer/softball tourney, and never venture far from their shitty suburb except to sit in a lawn chair/bleacher somewhere. No wonder they are all pissed off all the time. That's living hell in my book.13 points

Welcome to ABC/ESPN wanting to combat Big Noon on Fox. 11am in Fayettnam is actually great for us. Also, I like that flex means 2:30-7PM and not 11am-7pm like the Big 12 days when we got the 6 day window. Plus, nice to know our times in this SCHEDULE FOR HUMAN BEINGS!11 points

Regarding cold climates not being for me. I remembered, I once spent two weeks working in Omaha in February about 25 years ago. The most miserable trip of my life. Towards the end of the trip, I was eating a slice of Godfathers Pizza after slamming some beers in my hotel room and thinking, "If I lived here I would turn into a fat alcoholic." Then at that moment I understood what it meant to be a Cornhusker.10 points

I'll write you a dissertation at some point if you like, but the short of it is that it's a lovely place to visit and a terrible place to live, especially if you're still in your earning years. I still miss the weather, the landscape, and even the food, but I do not miss the people. We left in large part to get our children away from the default attitude of "given up" that 90% of the population lives by. I seem to recall you mentioning having kids. Do not move there and put them in public school if you expect them to know anyone who will ever do anything with their life. The state's horrible policies drive a lot of this. A classic is that property taxes never go up so long as a house stays in the family - sounds like a nice policy until you realize it incentives generations of people to do absolutely nothing because they can live in the same house great grandpa built in 1902 for about $50 a year, so no one is incentivized to do anything beyond the absolute least possible to get by. The end result is New Mexico competes year after year with Mississippi for the poorest state in America. There are a small handful of people working their assess off to improve the place, and they are met with a state taxing department that treats them like a piggy bank and commits some of the more egregious government overreach I've ever seen. It's straight-up criminal, with no exaggeration, but you will be living in an essentially lawless place, so what is criminal, anyway? If you own a business, bring your own tub of lube. Reason, rationality, and even the law do not factor into any interaction with state tax and rev. If you are deemed to have something beyond a mere subsistence existence, they will try and take it from you until you're broken like everyone else there. This is why the wealthy folks in Santa Fe don't actually reside in New Mexico, they just fly in from somewhere else to their second or third house. They still get dinged at every opportunity by tax and rev, but not nearly as bad as residents. You see the upside-down attitude of punishing people for trying to do better pop up in lots of places. New Mexico has one of the highest (maybe the highest) rates of uninsured motorists in America. Do they step up enforcement? No, they just charge the people doing the right thing more money. Stealing a car wasn't even a felony until around 2011. Each neighborhood in Albuquerque has a state senator. So whoever has the most relatives in a zip code gets elected. And despite this rather quaint state government, the oil and gas industries really run everything and pay nothing into the system for it. It's a mess of a place with corruption that makes Illinois (or Texas) look like candy apples. The other aspect that can be really tough there is New Mexico is one of the least hospitable places I've ever been. People keep to themselves and their own group. Almost anywhere I've ever been in the world you can walk into a pub, strike up a conversation, and end your experience with some new friends. That is an extremely rare occurrence in NM. I never really figured out why, but people are not interested in meeting new people in that place. Santa Fe is a bit different as it's filled with tourists and outsiders how spend only part of the year there, but the rest of the state would just as soon you not be there. So this turned into a poorly written dissertation after all, but in summary, New Mexico is a great place if you're independently wealthy and can shield your assets from a taxing authority that operates more like a Mongol horde than a government department. If you have kids that are still being raised or intend to earn money in the state, run as far away as you possibly can. If you're thinking of retirement, then sure. But know that you'll be surrounded by some of the most corrupt and some of the most sadly beat-down people you'll ever come across. Texas pisses me off all the time, especially the politics, but New Mexico gives me the shivers when I think about it. It's a place to give up. It's not a place to live.9 points

That is their goal. Break, don't fix anything with the government and then point at it and say, see the government is broken! Then replace the public service with a for profit version, run by one of their cronies.9 points

Rock Westfall Not a sleezy character. A journalist! Yes, both quotes do. The first represents the power of the Big Lie. The second quote shows, once again, the value of an A&M education and the way Aggies embrace their honor code. They've scored a little victory by irking me this morning. Texas held the Big 12 together after the cowardly departures of Nebraska and A&M. Colorado jumped out of FOMO. Missouri left because...who cares? The Big 12 was ruled by equal votes among the schools where A&M voted with Texas almost all the time. Nebraska's unfair advantages (unlimited non-qualifiers) were neutralized by votes where Nebraska was the lone dissenter as they were on votes about raising academic levels. In the SWC, Texas (DKR) introduced the idea of the entire conference sharing bowl revenue back when there were fewer bowls. A&M had larger recruiting classes than Texas did in the 1960s and still got dominated. Texas always included A&M in their plans. The news story is the insane jihad the Aggies have against ebil tu. They're all in on the liar cult. The quotes pretty much say it all, indeed.9 points

These pics are from slides taken from the Clark AFB, Philippines, '59-60. Its hard to time stamp them, going off subject matter, and the relative sizes of the siblings. They all have greenery and a volcano, which means its not Holloman AFB in New Mexico, '61-62. Most of the US planes at Clark had the Orange accents (or course). Maybe to prevent friendly fire? My sister in the foreground, same hair and dress as in OP. Notice the cowboy hat looking at the plane. Thank you for your support!!! TLDR. I don't no where else to put this so ...More on growing as an Air force Brat ...9 points
