  1. I’m not interested in getting political, but your description of circumstances can get immediately fucked. Negged for attempting to absurdly minimize the assassination attempt on a presidential candidate. I get that this site is a left leaning shithole, but I’m negging if this was about either side.

  4. Where has this been any of the hundreds to thousands of times Trump has encouraged violence?

  5. Do you disagree that Trump has openly called for violence? Do you disagree that he has called people that live in this country vermin? (https://www.npr.org/2023/11/17/1213746885/trump-vermin-hitler-immigration-authoritarian-republican-primary) Do you disagree that he suggest someone could exercise their 2nd amendment rights if Hillary Clinton has won? https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-2nd-amendment-folks-stop-clintons-supreme-court/story?id=41239648 Do you believe that he has discussed executing people who disagree with him? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/15/trump-white-house-leaker-execution Do you believe he mocked Pelosi's husband for being attacked? https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/29/trump-mocks-pelosi-family-as-he-rallies-conservative-support-in-california-00119243 Do you believe Trump posted a picture of Biden being hog tied? https://www.aljazeera.com/program/newsfeed/2024/4/1/trump-posts-video-with-image-of-biden-bound-and-tied Do you believe that he routinely threatens the press and encourages violence against its members? https://www.axios.com/2022/05/02/trump-call-violence-presidency Do you believe that he led an attempted violent coup in order to stay in power? Trump foments violence against anyone he dislikes with his rhetoric. He threatens to jail, execute, and/deport large segments of our population. He threatens to jail his political enemies not for having committed actual crimes, but merely for daring to oppose him. And yet now you act shocked that any of this might have contributed to violence against him. Whether he deserves violence is irrelevant. But he does absolutely share a significant share of responsibility for it.

  6. The fuck you couldn’t have. We have posters on this site, this thread even, who think the J6 terrorists are persecuted heroes. FFS, the man who is the subject of this thread thinks that, he has promised to pardon them! They tried to murder THE ENTIRE FUCKING REPUBLIC, and he lauds them as heroes and patriots at his fucking rallies. You can take it if someone says “chickens come home to roost.” You can take all of it, because you accept it when a man who calls terrorists who tried to overthrow our country patriots is about to become president. Fuck off with your double standard bullshit. I’m fucking sick of it. I’ve always been sick of it, but to now hear Trumpists lament “political violence” when they are the GODDAMNED MOTHERFUCKING PARTY OF POLTICAL VIOLENCE…fuck all the way off.

  7. The overlap of people who are disgusted by the rhetoric around this most recent politically-related violence and those who have chortled at memes about Nancy Pelosi's husband being tied up in his own house and hit over the head with a hammer has got to be damn near 100%.

  8. I know that. You don’t actually blame Trump for contributing so materially to this environment you find so overwhelmingly sad for you. that was my point. of course this shit is terrible. Of course it is a microcosm of a fucked up and broken society. It is the America that has allowed children to be murdered with regularity in schools. It is a country in which state governments purposefully inflict emotional and physical torture on women who need medical help. It is a cult that tried to overturn an election and stormed the capitol and tried to murder the vice president on the basis of nothing real because their leader got his feelings hurt that he didn’t win. but now you’re sad because some people on a message board have their eyebrows raised at the manifestation of turning the crazies loose coming back to bite. it is disingenuous.

  9. Donald Trump is the primary existential threat facing this country. I lamented (and still lament) yesterday's assassination attempt not because I care about Donald Trump -- I don't. I care about the United States. It's a tinderbox right now. Any single match could set it off. I don't want to see decent and innocent Americans die. Donald Trump is neither a decent nor innocent American. He is a cancer on this country. I don't want him assassinated because I don't want this country to erupt in civil war. If Trump's limo were to run into a bridge piling at 100 mph today, I would feel zero remorse, because I see that man as the problem and I don't want him retaking the Oval Office. That's different than saying I want him assassinated, as the effect on our country would be catastrophic. Maybe some of our smoother-brained DT friends can get the fucking point for once in their miserable little lives.

  10. I just can't muster a fuck to give except we're in for several months of some of the most rank hypocrisy ever seen from a band of people who were already the most hypocritical hypocrites of all time. They call for and celebrate political violence at every turn. Some looney does it the other way and pearls are all clutched. If Jan. 6 didn't result in auto disqualification for dotard, this shouldn't make a huge difference at the polls, but we are a fundamentally stupid country, so I'm sure it will. "He calls for political violence, inspired and egged on Jan. 6, says he'll suspend the constitution, and implement christian jihad style nationalism, while deporting ethnic minorities, and will cancel future elections, but someone clipped his ear, I guess he's the right guy for the job!"

  11. Trump gaslights and riles up millions. Attacks all kinds of classes, races, genders…laughs at others physically attacked in political violence, while encouraging political violence himself…and people are shocked when he gets a dose of his own medicine, leaving some on the other side of his attacks gruntled. Lol

  12. I have deleted dozens of posts in this thread. Any openly inflammatory or posts clearly inviting or praising additional violence will be deleted. Likewise any posts glorifying or elevating this event will be deleted. This thread is for discussion about the event and what happens because of it. It's not to rile people up. Some of you need to get a real grip on reality.

  13. Right. The crazy fuck sticks that want a Christian theocracy, to burn books, control women, and murder immigrants think they are right. So do the folks that want universal healthcare, education, and to generally try and treat people like people. I can see how you'd be torn between the two.

  20. I mean given his track record on the topic it is hardly a leap of logic. Simple cause and effect really. Observing and understanding that is different from being happy about it. The positions of... "I wish this never happened. Political violence is terrible for the country, an escalation like this is tragic and will only lead to more and more violence and toxicity, where more and more innocent people are hurt or killed." and... "Trump has been calling for violence to be carried out against political opponents and unsympathetic to say the least when it has happened throughout the entirety of his political career. I am not glad it happened but do not feel any personal sympathy for him." ... are not mutually exclusive.

  22. I'm sort of fatigued of these calls for "unity." This country will never be united on anything ever again, period. The closest we got was after 9/11 and W went on to bungle the shit out of it long term. The right decided a long time ago that division and villainization was their path to victory. It's only going to get worse. The right literally supports Vladimir Putin over the United States' interests. Half the country cheers against the US Women's Soccer and Basketball teams because "woke." Any semblance of unity is done, over, for good.

  23. some friends and i were discussing this morning just how...removed and surreal it all seems. how disconnected and unfazed we feel. one suggested Trump is such a chaos agent and we've been subjected to such an incredible level of unprecedented insanity that all our calibration meters are just completely shot. i mean the first mention i saw yesterday was literally right when @Nicole44 posted something in the other thread like 'did Trump just get shot?? he ducked and he's got blood all over his face...' and i just had no reaction whatsoever. i put my phone down and played with my puppy for over an hour 😐 when my husband came home later and was like 'somebody shot Trump!' i was like 'oh. yeah. i think i saw something about that'. it's fucking weird, man. is it possible for a nation to have collective PTSD?

  28. It’s funny to me that conservatives expect teachers to protect a classroom of students better than the Secret Service just protected a presidential candidate. Perhaps more stringent laws regarding gun ownership could be of some use to everyone.

  29. Well you see MNL believes that when someone has committed felonies in the past, and done things that have put others in harms way, or even potentially in harms way, then they deserve it when they suffer life threatening attack… wait.

  31. That isn't a he had it coming post. NOBODY should have that coming, not the kids in Sandy Hook, not the kids in Uvalde, not the people at Pulse and no not even Donald or the people at that rally. It's that one party lead by one person has fostered it coming...and that should be nauseating to anybody.

  35. I love that you think this sanctimonious shit is not unbelievably transparent on here. “you’ll get no disagreement from me…that this deplorable man has been cultivating an extremely dangerous environment for years in which he attempts to leverage his mindless cult’s willingness to threaten and inflect violence on his behalf and at his direction…” BUT… you guys are the problem. I’m sad.

  40. After watching some coverage, I would encourage everyone to think of most of this through an Occam's razor lens. The simplest possible explanation for most of this is probably the correct one. A lot of what happened was probably "fog of war" and people are trying to find patterns and motivations that aren't there. The snipers probably saw the guy but didn't take him out because they thought that a guy on a roof near the president surely must be one of them ... they were also guys on a roof with guns. Surely, right? Nobody wants to be the trigger happy security guy that takes out another law enforcement officer that is just doing his job on another roof with another rifle. They were probably trying to figure out if that was a friend or foe right up until they got their answer. That's how they were able to take him out so fast. They were undecided about what to do until suddenly they were returning fire. The secret service guys looked they had had training on what to do and had practiced, but had probably never with a heavy elderly guy who was not getting up and was looking for his shoes. You can hear the guys trying to communicate with each other that the shooter is down and to move, and right after that moment their training appears to go out the window. They don't move. They were indecisive. They had probably trained with a guy who just gets up and runs or gets carried to a car. They weren't trying to stand up Trump or put him in to a photo op, they were just not well rehearsed for this. The kid was probably less of a Republican or a Democrat and more of a kid that was in need of mental help. I would bet that he donated to one cause because others in his class were donating, maybe he liked the person raising money and chipped in $15. A simple reason. I would bet that he's a "registered" Republican because his parents probably also registered as Republicans and when he registered to vote he just picked the same party as his parents. Something simple. He was probably a lousy shot, if indeed it was an "easy" shot, because he was a 20 year old kid who overestimated his abilities. What works in movies and video games is less likely to work in the real world. The roof was probably unguarded because ... well this is a tough one but prep is never perfect. JFK's protective car bubble was sitting at Love Field at the moment he was killed, and no one bothered to check the school book depository before his parade, particularly the one open window on the highest floor that had a line of fire to both the approach and the departure. I *think* that was the last time a president or candidate was attacked by a sniper, and that was 62 years ago. It is a tragedy all around, but I would encourage everyone to seek simple explanations.
