  1. NIL and recruiting are pretty strongly intertwined so IDK how the fuck that makes any sense. Getting dunked on for caring so much about recruiting and not participating in NIL is totally acceptable and honestly officially sanctioned, condoned and encouraged behavior from Surly's perspective.

  2. man..he should be defensive. he's done a damn good job, likely one of the best in my lifetime, he literally saved this country by prying it from the dirty grasp of a destructive evil chaos agent and his cartoon character minions, he restored/repaired America's reputation around the world, not to mention helped get us through the pandemic and the aftermath. i'm not saying he shouldn't step down, im certainly not advocating he's our only chance to win this time and save our democracy. stepping down very well may be the right move, wtf do i know...i'm just reacting to the characterization of him, it makes me feel bad given he is the only one that could have saved us in 2020, and he did, and he's done it very, very well. i would be defensive too. man just fuck this gotdamn timeline. Joe's a good man and he's been a damn good president. hmpf.

  3. And for the record, this is exactly what I do. I'm the sole breadwinner in a family of 4, with one of my kids having special needs and the other being 17 months old. I'm broke as a fucking joke but can still easily find a way to donate $10/ month each to Burnt Ends and TOF. So I've got no sympathy for Mr. "I've donated $100k to the university" who is constantly bitching about our NIL but doesn't participate. Put up or shut up fucker.

  5. I fucking ragey right now. Everything I think is wrong with the world is on display right now. 1. FUCK THE MEDIA. Biden is old, okay. So is Trump. The fucking media is all over Biden. Until that Guardian clip above you had to rely on viral media to find Trump gaffs which are more plenty than Biden's and have been going on longer than Biden. 2. FUCK THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Stop eating your own. The drumbeat by purists inside the party created this. Republicans are rallied around a rapist, convicted felon, pathological liar, insurrectionist, senile old man and NO ONE is beating that drum loud enough. Biden has a near undefeated record in politics, his instincts and that of his team are the best in the business. He hasn't even really started campaigning and the party trashes him, for what? See point 5 below. 3. FUCK THE DEMOCRATS AND MEDIA FOR LEGITIMIZING TRUMP. He's a sham candidate, a farce, a fucking convicted felon. Why on EARTH did you agree to debate that piece of shit? Every time Trump gets coverage, he gains legitimacy. Every time folks play by the old rules and he breaks them, he gets legitimacy because he's associated by proximity to the institution - in this case the institution of a presidential debate. He gets on stage and vomits lies and yet we play by the standard debate rules with "impartiality" - fuck that nonsense. He needs to be sidelined. 4. BIDEN STEPS DOWN WITH THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ADMINISTRATION IN MY LIFETIME. Holy shit. If he can only operate 9am - 4pm, so fucking what? His administration is light years better than any POTUS Administration in my life time and second isn't even close. Yet here we are, he's being forced to step down. NO ONE is beating the drum about his record, it's PHENOMENAL. It's EXACTLY what we need for 4 more years. 5. LOVE HARRIS, BUT ... Kamala is a fan favorite at our house, no doubt. My wife has a crush on her bigly and we would be thrilled to see her as POTUS. This is not personal. But we both have grave concerns that this country will not elect a woman and certainly not a Black woman, and women will likely be her downfall. Women, minority groups, we all eat our own, it's not even a secret. I also think she is a wildcard as a candidate generally and I think there is no way she can be as effective as Joe Biden in the white house. Even if elected, her Admin will be stymied. We are taking a risk on electability but we are guaranteeing a downgrade in leadership at this point and that's not a knock on her leadership potential, it's a recognition that Biden is THAT GOOD. I only hope and pray she keeps the entire administration and they all agree to stay. I'm quite concerned about Ukraine. 6. PREEMPTIVELY, I STILL HATE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THE MEDIA. Kamala isn't going to have a cake walk. I predict the media will come at her and I fully expect the Democrats to be mealy mouthed shit for brains competitors and still refuse to hammer the fuck out of Trump. TAKE THE FUCKING GLOVES OFF and tell the American electorate - the choice is democracy or a child rapist, convicted felon, insurrectionist, Project 2025 dehumanize all non-Christians, women, LBGTQ folks, etc. thug - Americans it's time to save your country from the Handmaid's Tale. I fucking hate this shit. HATE IT.

  6. Your rage is entirely misplaced. You're raging at the media and at the Democratic Party. You should be raging at Biden and his advisors. Biden's advisors have seen him decline over the past however-many years. Yet they lied to us and said everything was fine. Worse--they accused anybody who raised any questions about Biden's mental acuity of "ageism. And then, as if their dishonesty wasn't enough, they put Joe Biden up on that debate stage--an act of political malpractice that is, I think, without parallel in modern American politics. Joe Biden has had the most successful administration in my lifetime. You and I agree on that front. But Joe Biden's second term would not be successful, because Joe Biden is barely mentally capable of being president today; there's no way he'll be mentally fit to be president in a year or two, much less four. And absolutely everybody sees that. And as a result, there's no point in speculating about the success of a second term, because there is no fucking way in hell that Joe Biden is going to win a second term. And the reason for this isn't the media. And it isn't the Democratic Party. It's the voters, who overwhelmingly say that Biden is not mentally fit to be president. And you can rage all day at the voters, but in the end, Principal Skinner--it is you whom is out of touch, not the children. I cannot stress this enough. The reason we are where we are is not because of the Democratic Party. It's not because of the media. And it's damned sure not because of the voters who saw a fragile old man on that debate stage who looked confused, feeble, and unable to articulate a coherent thought and decided that he should not be president. We are where we are entirely because Biden's inner circle thought they could cover up his mental decline through a fucking presidential campaign and skate through because his opponent is just noxious enough that it might not matter that their candidate couldn't effectively campaign. We could have been having this conversation a year ago. We should have been having this conversation a year ago. The reason we didn't is entirely because of Biden's inner circle. You know I love you, but you're dreadfully wrong. You and I would vote for Biden if he were in a fucking permanent vegetative state. But the problem is that we're not in the majority. If we rallied around Biden after that debate performance, Biden would still lose. But worse than that, the Senate and House candidates who rallied around him would lose credibility. They would be justifiably accused of putting party ahead of country. And they would lose. We would lose the House. We would lose the Senate. We would lose hundreds of state legislative seats. The Democratic Party would face an electoral catastrophe if we followed the rally-around-Biden strategy you suggest. And by the way--I have a very strong suspicion that a lot of this is driven by Hunter and his hope that his dad would issue a pardon in his second term. I very much think that if Hunter weren't in there pleading for Joe to stay in the race, that Joe would've stood down two weeks ago.

  7. thinking about people like indomitable and the rest of the dipshit brigade criticizing the body men/women secret service agents that jumped on trump while the shooting was occurring and immediately afterwards because of their gender and appearance... can you imagine being so committed to the job that you actually fall on that disgusting piece of shit to shield him from incoming fire, raising the probability of getting yourself shot by like a zillion relative to the typical day in the life of? that you would give your life to save such an atrocious apotheosis of the worst of humanity? i mean, when he was the actual president, i can see the notion of being committed to the idea and what the office represents, etc... that you see it as your duty to protect the elected president of the united states. but to be responsible for giving your life to protect campaigning candidate trump...man, that would suck. and now you have a bunch of diabetic fat fuck boomer pieces of shit who wish we had a fascist monarch sitting around on their computers/phones making jokes about how you are unfit for the job.

  8. As it fucking should be. What you're ignoring is that regular posters on this literally fucking developed NIL at Texas, as blueprint as to how it's been copied everywhere, and are good enough to share the information with you at times. Openly, along with actual details about the problems that also exist in the Texas organization, at least as has been seen by us. Instead things don't go the way you want and WAH WAH WAH WHY AREN'T WE WINNING EVERY RECRUITMENT FUCK OUR NIL. If Texas could more rapidly monetize the small dollar donors for our 500k living alumni, we'd be in rarified air. We're working on it, but it takes time. So yeah, not taking seriously the people who don't donate while bitching about the results ,we dismiss you out of hand. What's the critique of 18 year olds here? They don't choose your school? They don't maximize their money? That they get to make money? Then I'd think $20 more a month wouldn't set you back, but here you are whining and bitching on a fucking message board, which you also don't spend a pittance to support financially. You sound like the fucking guy who bitches about paying taxes and then bitches the pot holes in his street don't get reparied after taxes get cut.

  10. It's Shapiro. It makes the most sense. It seals Pennsylvania, and really helps with the other Upper-B1G states that are critical to a Democrat's election chances. Actually, this raises a good scenario that I hadn't previously thought of. If Biden announces he's not running for re-election, he can still spend the next five months campaigning. It'll be more in the vein of a valedictory tour, touting his administration's accomplishments (and there have been a lot). And a lot of ill will will evaporate. People who are double-haters--a critical block in this election--are primarily double haters because both Biden and Trump are running. But if you're not being asked to vote for Biden, aren't you a bit more inclined to actually listen to what he's saying? It's a very real phenomenon in American politics that a politician's best speech is his last one. It's both the best speech and it's the best received speech. See generally the farewell speeches by Obama and Reagan. Biden would get the opportunity to have a five-month farewell speech. And it could really move the needle.

  11. I know I'll regret this, but I'm legitimately curious what Jan. 6 means to you. The new VP candidate just said that he would have done what Pence refused to do, meaning both of them support the overturning of free and fair elections. How the ever living fuck can you people sit there and say concerns about these candidates is "overly dramatic?" He tried to overturn a fucking election! The very basis of democracy. No big deal? What the actual fuck is going on in this country?

A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want.” —Hannah Arendt, German historian and philosopher (1906–1975)

  22. Well, you'll never have your bodily autonomy questioned, and for some reason (not really) refuse to acknowledge how fucked up it is to have the state making reproductive decisions for women based on nothing but false narratives from 50 years ago. By the way, my family recently went through literal hell because of the local abortion bans, for reasons that your people never, ever consider, and downplaying it as not a big fucking deal is why people are furious. Anyone who thinks its just another political issue for reasonable disagreement can literally go fuck themselves. I have some personal connections to the LGBTQ community, almost none in the trans community, but I'm not going to brush it off because of it, let people fucking live, and stop calling them pedophiles and "groomers" or whatever. Again, these aren't reasonable areas for disagreement, this is peoples' actual humanity and right to exist on the line. Anyone who supports that bullshit can again go fuck themselves.

  25. People are so naive about history though, every single person is at risk from a second Donald Trump term, even MAGA are just one step removed from the leopard eating their face. During the fall of the Weimar Republic, who were the first people to be mass executed by Hitler? it was his own! the night of the long knives, the SA, the brownshirts were exterminated like rabid dogs. People cheered of course but they were just the first in the long long line of massacres and wars. White people being so relaxed about the second Trump term are playing with fire, they are in the crosshairs as well, its just not known when Trump will do the ultimate crazy narcissistic act.

  27. Ah, the ole' "You take me too seriously" trope when someone starts getting justifiably pegged by posters. It's a cunt hair above "Why are you guys being so mean?" Yes. And then 3 months ago Phil Knight decided he's spend unlimited money this cycle. I'm so sorry these things change. That being said... No one has ever, ever, claimed we would get whoever we want. Posters invovled in NIL have literally said Texas is best in class except for Oregon, who can beat anyone whenever they want. That has been a CONSTANT and consistent narrative. And it's playing out and you act like someone pulled your GI Joe tighties over your eyes. I'm sorry your reading comprehension blows like your takes. You haven't been asking simple questions, you've been ignoring what people are saying and repeatedly pushing a narrative that's not true...I guess becuase wah wah I'm just a disappointed fan who apparently is either super duper poor or has given 6 figures to UT but still won't finanically support the one thing that helps football recruiting. Grow up. And yes, exceptions do pop up, like a player with an exceptionally strong relationship with a position coach who puts folks in the league going to LSU. I realize that nuance is difficult for many people in this world, with apparently you being one. I realize that makes the world a really scary place for people like you. I'm sorry you live in pants-wetting fear.

  28. You've accused the folks here - many of whom have spent enough hours of their free time on NIL for it to qualify as a second job - of "spreading lies." And when called on it, your response is "you're taking this way too seriously." Bold strategy man.

  29. You've accused people in the know of "spreading lies" regarding the state of NIL. Got receipts to back that up? Or do you possess an elementary school child's ability to process information and assumed that if we're not hitting on all targets, that the only explanation is that you're being lied to?

  30. People who are clutching their pearls about our NIL and our recent recruiting losses to Oregon,LSU, etc conveniently forget that our NIL got Banks from Oregon, Ewers from Ohio State, Mack from FSU, Williams from LSU, Wingo from Missouri, and Niblack/Mitchell/Bond from Bama. Among many many others. Our NIL kicks ass thanks in large part to some posters on here. We don’t win them all, and we never will. But we are always in the running if we are interested. Enjoy being the 1% for once.

  33. It’s just confusing because your friends HATE Trump, but will willingly help out him back in the WH. Assuming they aren’t dim AF, they understand what a disaster that proposition is for us and future generations. Like a 6-3 or 7-2 SCOTUS packed with Justices like Alito and Thomas are currently, but just don’t care? But they DO care enough if it’s Kamala Harris on the ballot? I would vote for Stoops/Switzer over Trump if they were Dems.

  34. Look, it's fine to be frustrated with the situation, but I will not accept that millions of people collectively agreeing at the same time that this dude cannot be our President is a bad thing. This wasn't some power grab or coup based on difference in policy. This wasn't some long simmering feud where everyone was waiting for a moment to strike. Biden had 100% party support prior to June 27. This was a genuine, impromptu reaction to what was playing out before our eyes, and I do not accept that the answer is blind loyalty. Additionally, being able to effectively and persuasively communicate is, like, THE most important skill for a President, and it's silly to blame the media for pointing out when a candidate clearly can no longer do this. Biden has done a great job and I hate that he is in this current state. But asking Democrats to ignore their eyes and vote for Joe no matter what, especially after 8 straight years of demonizing Republicans who do the same, is not the path to victory.
    12 points
  35. Except that's not at all what you're doing. Now, you're conflating disparate concepts into one and creating a straw man to excuse your own naive and misplaced perceptions regarding NIL. If someone doesn't have money to contribute to NIL efforts, that's totally fine. However, bitching and perpetuating false narratives regarding something you (1) clearly don't understand and (2) are not a part of is deceitful and does nothing to help the situation. This is like someone who doesn't vote (no CR) who complains about politicians or the like. Sure, it still affects you, but you're not even trying to remedy the situation. No, y'all just want to complain behind a keyboard when Texas NIL is fucking top-tier and there are multiple posters here who fucking have first-hand information to know so. This!

  36. If Biden steps aside it’s Harris. I really don’t know why any of y'all still think it could be anybody else. We’ve had candidates picked by democratic primaries for the last 50+ years. Throwing all the votes away to let some big donors select their own preferred candidate, when we’re in an election to save American democracy, would be an insane thing to do.
