  1. This is such unbridled horseshit. I live in fucking California, and I'm not sure if I've ever seen a Fuck Trump shirt/flag/bumper sticker/whatever in person. I can't go a day without seeing Let's Go Brandon or Fuck Biden. If I'm going camping with my learning-how-to-read kids, there's a 75% chance that there's a trailer within eyeshot flying a massive Fuck Biden flag on a 20' pole, and their kids have matching Let's Go Brandon shirts. Good news is that those flag poles are apparently easy to mount on their boats as well. I've never once had someone try to bring up out of nowhere how important trans rights are and how we have to do more to protect them. It's ALWAYS right-leaning friends and family who are looking to find any opportunity to make their "trannie" jokes, or repeat the latest thing they heard about arresting parents for not paying for their 8 year old's gender reassignment or whatever the fuck. Who just can't wait to tell you how much better their black friend that no one has met was doing under Trump. It's a near daily occurrence for me (especially during COVID when everyone just had to share their favorite version of the "after the election, you'll never hear about COVID again" batshit conspiracies), so I can't imagine what it's like for those of you still in Texas. This is an anonymous message board; you think most of us are running around talking about Trump and elections 24/7? No, we have the decency to not bring up politics in polite company. Today's right blows right fucking past social cues and any reasonable sense of time and place. They're so sure that everyone agrees with them that they take staying silent, avoiding eye contact, and attempts to change the subject as sure signs that we want to hear another half hour of their vile. Why the fuck would I want to expose my family to that shit any more than I dutifully have to?

  2. This too. I admittedly didn’t know shit about the guy two week ago, but I’m 100% on board.

  3. Stop doing this. Literally no one ever says that. But, when your choices are a Ford Pinto full of human excrement and a 1998 Honda Accord, it's pretty easy. That doesn't make the Accord perfect. Look at my user name...you think I'm some lifelong bleeding heart liberal? The right just has absolutely nothing to offer me right now. That's not changing while Trump is alive because he is the party, and that party is pure, open hatred. Also, can you please link that study? I'm curious how they define extremism. Or how those surveyed perceived it. Anecdotally speaking, when I hear left wing extremists, I tend to think policy: free college, crazy high taxes, universal income/healthcare, etc. Right wing extremists has me thinking Proud Boys, Jan 6, election deniers, etc.

  5. ^^^ The point being, in case I was unclear, is that right wing extremism and hateful rhetoric comes directly from their political and thought leaders. They start, foster, and stoke the fire. Left wing extremism is largely contained to message boards and whatever an antifa is. Left wing extremism is "maybe everyone should get free healthcare." Right wing extremism is "hey wouldn't it be cool if trans people weren't allowed to exist in our society, and we could make people ashamed to be gay again?" Gee, I wonder why people take that shit personally?

  7. Oh yeah, and one of those kids is a girl, and the hand-picked VP candidate of the man who's still the betting favorite to win the Presidency just said that if she chooses not to (or can't) procreate, her sad existence of a life has no meaning, and she doesn't have any real stake in the country or world. But the Democrats probably have an iffy tax bill that they want to pass, and that could be harmful too. So I guess it's all the same.

  9. We are going to have lower grocery prices. Beautiful grocery prices. There will be so many low grocery prices people will be coming to me begging, "stop, these grocery prices are too low we can't take this any more".

  13. I disagree. They have played it perfectly. Hiding her allowed her this moment to come out and leave people pleasantly surprised; there would be nowhere near this amount of excitement/momentum if she’d been out front the last 4 years. It also prevented her from saying/doing something that could have taken this opportunity away from her.

  14. In the era of the college football transfer portal, the culture surrounding players who leave large schools can often become toxic. When Caleb Williams left Oklahoma and followed head coach Lincoln Riley to USC, hate and backlash ran rampant on social media. Despite all of this, one of the hallmarks of the Steve Sarkisian regime has been his treatment of players, even those that eventually left the program, and that seems to have held true with former quarterback Maalik Murphy. Murphy grew to be a fan favorite in his short two years with the Longhorns. Murphy was the first notable quarterback brought in by Sarkisian at Texas (no disrespect to former three star and current third-stringer Cole Lourd) after the initial decommitment of Quinn Ewers, leading many fans to believe the 6'5, 240-pound mammoth of a recruit was the future of Texas football. Shortly after, however, Murphy was overtaken by some of the biggest names in college football. Ewers came back to the 40 acres, and a year later Arch Manning became the most notable recruit Texas had gotten since Vince Young. But Murphy stayed strong, not leaving the Horns and earning himself a spot as a backup to Ewers in 2023. As a part of the eventual Big 12 champions and CFP contenders, Murphy was forced to come in for two starts while Ewers dealt with injury. Murphy, who entered the transfer portal before the team made it to New Orleans, ended his Texas career with a flawless 2-0 record, throwing for 477 yards and three touchdowns on 71 attempts. With the presence of Manning looming behind him on the depth chart, Murphy made the tough decision to enter the portal. Because of the deadlines set in place by the NCAA, Murphy was not able to join the team in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. Despite all of this, Murphy told reports at the ACC Kickoff Event on Wednesday that he will continue rooting for the Longhorns and his friends, truly embracing the "Longhorn for Life" slogan. “Definitely, definitely, definitely. I can’t wait,” Maalik Murphy said. “We have a lot of Friday games this year, so hopefully they don’t play on Fridays like we do and I’m able to watch them and follow them on Saturdays. So definitely my boys. There’s a couple of guys on the team I talk to every single day still. So I’m excited for them.” Murphy added that he was still in touch with both Ewers and Manning and expects this year's team to continue on the momentum of 2023. "If they do anything less than what we did last year I will be surprised,” Murphy said. “I feel like they’re on the right path. Coach Sark is doing a lot of good things… and I’m really excited to see what they can do this year.” It sounds like Murphy will make the effort to tune in as much as possible, but in the meantime, he has yet another quarterback battle to win in Durham. Though Murphy was 247's sixth highest-rated quarterback transfer, sophomore Grayson Loftis is making sure the job isn't Murphy's just yet. The three-star played meaningful snaps in five games for the Blue Devils in 2023, filling in for the injured Riley Leonard, and notched over 1000 yards passing with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Murphy is expected to be the starter, however, and a little competition has never scared away the former Longhorn.

  18. Walz looks like the older White guys I see at Tom Thumb when I go home to Gainesville to visit my parents—fresh off of hunting, coming into town to grab him a 12 pack of beer and then head back to his house in Lake Kiowa…… Except he’s a Dem.

  19. Russian military reporter Alexander Kharchenko reports that logistics on the Russian side are getting worse over time due to the abundance of drones on the Ukrainian side. He says that even a year ago in Robotyne they were dismounted 1 kilometer from the positions, but now dismounting from armour takes place 8-10 km from the front. However, there are no available solutions to the problem yet.

  20. If Walz isn't going to be VP, he needs to be out there spreading this gospel that he created and has practiced and perfected. It immediately struck a chord with so many in this thread and the socials, and I imagine pretty damn effective reaching the voters that need to be reached if heard day in and day out for the next 3+ months. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/26/trump-vance-weird-00171470 Walz is one of the most important figures in this campaign after Harris, whatever role it ends up being. I'm damn glad he's on our side.

The Malians managed to shoot down two Russian helicopters (Mi-8 & Mi-24) and destroy a convoy of vehicles and MRAPs. Between 50/60 Wagner members were killed. Additionally, three Russians were captured. ‼️Among the group was a well-known Russian military figure and the author of the Telegram channel "Grey Zone". which has 500,000 subscribers. He was killed. ^Supposedly took out Grey Zone

  24. Another possible plus if you make Walz VP: the opportunity to do interviews on big sports podcasts/shows. He was a defensive coordinator and won a state title while coaching. I bet he knows his shit. His ability to connect with sports fans and even Barstool Bros (who mostly lean conservative/Trump if I had to guess) shouldn't be underestimated. I bet he'd absolutely kill it and it would make a difference.

  28. It would be smart for Pete to do Fox News Sunday every week until the election. And I think Fox would be up for it. He's the only politician in America that can go on that channel, calmly and effectively destroy their narratives, and they still happily invite him back as much as possible. Gotta take advantage of that.

  31. The thing that irritates about posts like the above (hook1997s) is the "extreme of either side." Does extreme leftism exist? Sure it does. Does it enter the conversation in Cloak Room or elsewhere? Not most of the time. Note that most of the more progressive posters bad_teammate and Linux, are mostly absent from the discussions. The right is all-extreme all the time.
